In this paper, we present a low-complexity algorithm for detection in high-rate, non-orthogonal space-time block coded (STBC) large-MIMO systems that achieve high spectral efficiencies of the order of tens of bps/Hz. We also present a training-based iterative detection/channel estimation scheme for such large STBC MIMO systems. Our simulation results show that excellent bit error rate and nearness-to-capacity performance are achieved by the proposed multistage likelihood ascent search (M-LAS) detector in conjunction with the proposed iterative detection/channel estimation scheme at low complexities. The fact that we could show such good results for large STBCs like 16x16 and 32x32 STBCs from Cyclic Division Algebras (CDA) operating at spectral efficiencies in excess of 20 bps/Hz (even after accounting for the overheads meant for pilot based training for channel estimation and turbo coding) establishes the effectiveness of the proposed detector and channel estimator. We decode perfect codes of large dimensions using the proposed detector. With the feasibility of such a low-complexity detection/channel estimation scheme, large-MIMO systems with tens of antennas operating at several tens of bps/Hz spectral efficiencies can become practical, enabling interesting high data rate wireless applications.
In this paper, we study how coded caching can be efficiently applied to multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications. This is an extension to cache-aided multiple-input single-output (MISO) communications, where it is shown that with an $L$-antenna transmitter and coded caching gain $t$, a cumulative coded caching and spatial multiplexing gain of $t+L$ is achievable. We show that, interestingly, for MIMO setups with $G$-antenna receivers, a coded caching gain larger than MISO setups by a multiplicative factor of $G$ is possible, and the full coded caching and spatial multiplexing gain …
The theoretic results of MIMO capacity tell us that the higher the number of antennas are employed, the higher the transmission rate is. This makes MIMO systems with hundreds of antennas very attractive but one of the major problems that obstructs such large dimensional MIMO systems from the practical realization is a high complexity of the MIMO detector. We present in this paper the new soft output MIMO detector based on matched filtering that can be applied to the large MIMO systems which are coded by the powerful non-binary LDPC codes. The per-bit complexity of the proposed detector is just…
In this paper, we have investigated the application of non-binary LDPC codes to spatial multiplexing MIMO systems with a large number of low power antennas. We demonstrate that such large MIMO systems incorporating with low-complexity MMSE detector and non-binary LDPC codes can achieve low probability of bit error at near MIMO capacity. The new proposed non-binary LDPC coded system also performs better than other coded large MIMO systems known in the present literature. For instance, non-binary LDPC coded BPSK-MIMO system with 600 transmit/receive antennas performs within 3.4 dB from the capac…
We propose a unitary precoding scheme, namely polar-precoding, to improve the performance of polar-coded MIMO systems. In contrast to the traditional design of MIMO precoding criteria, the proposed polar-precoding scheme relies on the \emph{polarization criterion}. In particular, the precoding matrix design comprises two steps. After selecting a basic matrix for maximizing the capacity in the first step, we design a unitary matrix for maximizing the polarization effect among the data streams without degrading the capacity. Our simulation results show that the proposed polar-precoding scheme ou…
In this paper, we introduce the novel use of linear spatial precoding based on fixed and known parameters of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels to improve the performance of space-time coded MIMO systems. We derive linear spatial precoding schemes for both coherent (channel is known at the receiver) and non-coherent (channel is un-known at the receiver) space-time coded MIMO systems. Antenna spacing and antenna placement (geometry) are considered as fixed parameters of MIMO channels, which are readily known at the transmitter. These precoding schemes exploit the antenna placement i…
We propose a novel optimization-based decoding algorithm for LDPC-coded massive MIMO channels. The proposed decoding algorithm is based on a proximal gradient method for solving an approximate maximum a posteriori (MAP) decoding problem. The key idea is the use of a code-constraint polynomial penalizing a vector far from a codeword as a regularizer in the approximate MAP objective function. The code proximal operator is naturally derived from code-constraint polynomials. The proposed algorithm, called proximal decoding, can be described by a simple recursion consisting of the gradient descent …
This paper investigates the bit-interleaved coded generalized spatial modulation (BICGSM) with iterative decoding (BICGSM-ID) for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) visible light communications (VLC). In the BICGSM-ID scheme, the information bits conveyed by the signal-domain (SiD) symbols and the spatial-domain (SpD) light emitting diode (LED)-index patterns are coded by a protograph low-density parity-check (P-LDPC) code. Specifically, we propose a signal-domain symbol expanding and re-allocating (SSER) method for constructing a type of novel generalized spatial modulation (GSM) constella…
The Golden space-time trellis coded modulation (GST-TCM) scheme was proposed in \cite{Hong06} for a high rate $2\times 2$ multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system over slow fading channels. In this letter, we present the performance analysis of GST-TCM over block fading channels, where the channel matrix is constant over a fraction of the codeword length and varies from one fraction to another, independently. In practice, it is not useful to design such codes for specific block fading channel parameters and a robust solution is preferable. We then show both analytically and by simulation t…
The exact average complexity analysis of the basic sphere decoder for general space-time codes applied to multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless channel is known to be difficult. In this work, we shed the light on the computational complexity of sphere decoding for the quasi-static, LAttice Space-Time (LAST) coded MIMO channel. Specifically, we drive an upper bound of the tail distribution of the decoder's computational complexity. We show that, when the computational complexity exceeds a certain limit, this upper bound becomes dominated by the outage probability achieved by LAST codin…
We propose blind adaptive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) linear receivers for DS-CDMA systems using multiple transmit antennas and space-time block codes (STBC) in multipath channels. A space-time code-constrained constant modulus (CCM) design criterion based on constrained optimization techniques is considered and recursive least squares (RLS) adaptive algorithms are developed for estimating the parameters of the linear receivers. A blind space-time channel estimation method for MIMO DS-CDMA systems with STBC based on a subspace approach is also proposed along with an efficient RLS algorithm…
Semi-definite relaxation (SDR) detector has been demonstrated to be successful in approaching maximum likelihood (ML) performance while the time complexity is only polynomial. We propose a new receiver jointly utilizing the forward error correction (FEC) code information in the SDR detection process. Strengthened by the code constraints, the joint SDR detector provides soft information of much improved reliability to downstream decoder and therefore outperforms existing receivers with substantial gain.
Multiple antenna (MIMO) devices are widely used to increase reliability and information bit rate. Optimal error rate performance (full diversity and large coding gain), for unknown channel state information at the transmitter and for maximal rate, can be achieved by approximately universal space-time codes, but comes at a price of large detection complexity, infeasible for most practical systems. We propose a new coded modulation paradigm: error-correction outer code with space-only but time-varying precoder (as inner code). We refer to the latter as Ergodic Mutual Information (EMI) code. The …
Coded caching (CC) techniques have been shown to be conveniently applicable in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems. In a $K$-user network with spatial multiplexing gains of $L$ at the transmitter and $G$ at every receiver, if each user can cache a fraction $γ$ of the file library, a total number of $GKγ+ L$ data streams can be served in parallel. In this paper, we focus on improving the finite-SNR performance of MIMO-CC systems. We first consider a MIMO-CC scheme that relies only on unicasting individual data streams, and then, introduce a decomposition strategy to design a new scheme that…
In this paper, the problem of joint oscillator phase noise (PHN) estimation and data detection for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems using bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) is analyzed. A new MIMO receiver that iterates between the estimator and the detector, based on the expectation-maximization (EM) framework, is proposed. It is shown that at high signal-to-noise ratios, a maximum a posteriori estimator (MAP) can be used to carry out the maximization step of the EM algorithm. Moreover, to reduce the computational complexity of the proposed EM algorithm, a soft decision-directed e…
An adaptive joint power allocation (JPA) and linear receiver design algorithm using the minimum bit error rate (MBER) criterion for a cooperative Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) network is proposed. The system employs multiple relays with Distributed Space-Time Coding (DSTC) schemes and an Amplify-and-Forward (AF) strategy. It is designed according to a joint constrained optimization algorithm to determine the MBER power allocation parameters and the receive filter parameters for each transmitted symbol. The simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm obtains performance gain…
This letter investigates bit-interleaved coded multiple beamforming (BICMB) with perfect coding in millimeter-wave (mm-wave) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems to achieve both maximum diversity gain and multiplexing gain. Using perfect coding with BICMB enables us to do this. We show that by using BICMB and perfect coding, the diversity gain becomes independent from the number of transmitted data streams and the number of antennas in each remote antenna unit (RAU) at the transmitter and the receiver. The assumption is that the perfect channel state information (CSI) is known…
It is shown that while the mutual information curves for coded modulation (CM) and bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM) overlap in the case of a single input single output channel, the same is not true in multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channels. A method for mitigating fading in the presence of multiple transmit antennas, named coordinate interleaving (CI), is presented as a generalization of component interleaving for a single transmit antenna. The extent of any advantages of CI over BICM, relative to CM, is analyzed from a mutual information perspective; the analysis is based on an…
Grant-free access schemes are candidates to support future massive multiple access applications owing to their capability to reduce control signaling and latency. As a promising class of grant-free schemes, coded random access schemes can achieve high reliabilities also with uncoordinated transmissions and therefore in presence packet collisions. In this paper, an analysis tool for coded random access, based on density evolution, is proposed and exploited for system design and optimization. In sharp contrast with the existing literature, where such tools have been developed under simplified ch…
Precoding is a method of compensating the channel at the transmitter. This work presents a novel method of data detection in turbo coded single user massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems using precoding. We show via computer simulations that, when precoding is used, re-transmitting the data does not result in significant reduction in bit-error-rate (BER), thus increasing the spectral efficiency, compared to the case without precoding. Moreover, increasing the number of transmit and receive antennas results in improved BER.
The space-time bit-interleaved coded modulation (ST-BICM) is an efficient technique to obtain high diversity and coding gain on a block-fading MIMO channel. Its maximum-likelihood (ML) performance is computed under ideal interleaving conditions, which enables a global optimization taking into account channel coding. Thanks to a diversity upperbound derived from the Singleton bound, an appropriate choice of the time dimension of the space-time coding is possible, which maximizes diversity while minimizing complexity. Based on the analysis, an optimized interleaver and a set of linear precoders,…
In this work, we develop a new iterative turbo receiver for LDPC-coded multi-antenna systems based on semidefinite relaxation (SDR). For a classical turbo receiver, forward error correction (FEC) code is only used at decoder. Nonetheless, by taking advantage of FEC code in the detection stage, our proposed SDR detector can output extrinsic information with much improved reliability to the decoder. We also propose a simplified SDR turbo receiver that solves only one SDR problem per codeword instead of solving multiple SDR problems in the iterative turbo processing. This scheme significantly red…
We present a novel access protocol for crowd scenarios in massive MIMO (Multiple-input multiple-output) systems. Crowd scenarios are characterized by a large number of users with intermittent access behavior, whereby orthogonal scheduling is infeasible. In such scenarios, random access is a natural choice. The proposed access protocol relies on two essential properties of a massive MIMO system, namely asymptotic orthogonality between user channels and asymptotic invariance of channel powers. Signal processing techniques that take advantage of these properties allow us to view a set of contamin…
With the complication of future communication scenarios, most conventional signal processing technologies of multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) become unreliable, which are designed based on ideal assumptions, such as Gaussian signaling and independent identically distributed (IID) channel matrices. As a result, this paper considers a generalized MU-MIMO (GMU-MIMO) system with more general assumptions, i.e., arbitrarily fixed input distributions, and general unitarily-invariant channel matrices. However, there is still no accurate capacity analysis and capacity optimal transce…
In this paper, a joint power allocation algorithm with minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) receiver for a cooperative Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MIMO) network which employs multiple relays and a Decode-and-Forward (DF) strategy is proposed. A Distributed Space-Time Coding (DSTC) scheme is applied in each relay node. We present a joint constrained optimization algorithm to determine the power allocation parameters and the MMSE receive filter parameter vectors for each transmitted symbol in each link, as well as the channel coefficients matrix. A Stochastic Gradient (SG) algorithm is deri…
A wireless relay with multiple antennas is called a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) switch if it maps its input links to its output links using "precode-and-forward." Namely, the MIMO switch precodes the received signal vector in the uplink using some matrix for transmission in the downlink. This paper studies the scenario of $K$ stations and a MIMO switch, which has full channel state information. The precoder at the MIMO switch is either a zero-forcing matrix or a network-coded matrix. With the zero-forcing precoder, each destination station receives only its desired signal with enhanc…
Accurate channel state information (CSI) is essential for attaining beamforming gains in single-user (SU) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and multiplexing gains in multi-user (MU) MIMO wireless communication systems. State-of-the-art limited feedback schemes, which rely on pre-defined codebooks for channel quantization, are only appropriate for a small number of transmit antennas and low feedback overhead. In order to scale informed transmitter schemes to emerging massive MIMO systems with a large number of transmit antennas at the base station, one common approach is to employ time divi…
Non-ideal oscillators both at the transmitter and the receiver introduces time varying phase noise which interacts with the transmitted data in a non-linear fashion. Phase noise becomes a detrimental problem and needs to be estimated and compensated. In this thesis receiver algorithms are derived and evaluated to mitigate the effects of the phase noise in digital communication systems. In Chapter 3 phase noise estimation in single-input single-output (SISO) systems is investigated. First, a hard decision directed extended Kalman filter (EKF) is applied to an uncoded system. Next, an iterative …
Semantic communications have shown great potential to boost the end-to-end transmission performance. To further improve the system efficiency, in this paper, we propose a class of novel semantic coded transmission (SCT) schemes over multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) fading channels. In particular, we propose a high-efficiency SCT system supporting concurrent transmission of multiple streams, which can maximize the multiplexing gain of end-to-end semantic communication system. By jointly considering the entropy distribution on the source semantic features and the wireless MIMO channel state…
This paper presents the first network-coded multiple access (NCMA) system prototype operated on high-order modulations up to 16-QAM. NCMA jointly exploits physical-layer network coding (PNC) and multiuser decoding (MUD) to boost throughput of multipacket reception systems. Direct generalization of the existing NCMA decoding algorithm, originally designed for BPSK, to high-order modulations, will lead to huge performance degradation. The throughput degradation is caused by the relative phase offset between received signals from different nodes. To circumvent the phase offset problem, this paper…
In this paper, the asymptotic performance of the lattice sequential decoder for LAttice Space-Time (LAST) coded MIMO channel is analyzed. We determine the rates achievable by lattice coding and sequential decoding applied to such a channel. The diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) under lattice sequential decoding is derived as a function of its parameter---the bias term, which is critical for controlling the amount of computations required at the decoding stage. Achieving low decoding complexity requires increasing the value of the bias term. However, this is done at the expense of losing th…
Unsourced random access (URA) is an increasingly popular communication paradigm attuned to machine driven data transfers in \textit{Internet-of-Things} (IoT) networks. In a typical URA setting, a small subset of active devices within a very large population wish to transmit short messages to a central base station. Originally defined for base stations equipped with a single antenna, the URA paradigm has recently been extended to practical scenarios involving base stations with a massive number of antennas by Fengler et al. The proposed concatenated coding scheme therein utilizes a non-Bayesian…
Semi-definite relaxation (SDR) detector has been demonstrated to be successful in approaching maximum likelihood (ML) performance while the time complexity is only polynomial. We propose a new receiver jointly utilizing the forward error correction (FEC) code information in the SDR detection process. Strengthened by code constraints, the joint SDR detector substantially improves the overall receiver performance. For further performance boost, the ML-SDR detector is adapted to MAP-SDR detector by incorporating a priori information in the cost function. Under turbo principle, MAP-SDR detector ta…
A present challenge in wireless communications is the assurance of ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC). While the reliability aspect is well known to be improved by channel coding with long codewords, this usually implies using interleavers, which introduce undesirable delay. Using short codewords is a needed change to minimizing the decoding delay. This work proposes the combination of a coding and decoding scheme to be used along with spatial signal processing as a means to provide URLLC over a fading channel. The paper advocates the use of random linear codes (RLCs) over a …
In this paper we carry out the asymptotic diversity analysis for millimeter-wave (mmWave) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems by using bit interleaved coded multiple beamforming (BICMB). First, a single-user mmWave system which employs $M_t$ antenna subarrays at the transmitter and $M_r$ antenna subarrays at the receiver is studied. Each antenna subarray in the transmitter and the receiver has $N_r$ and $N_t$ antennas, respectively. We establish a theorem for the diversity gain when the number of antennas in each remote antenna unit (RAU) goes to infinity. Based on the theore…
In this paper, a combination of Space Time Block Coded Spatial Modulation with Hybrid Analog-Digital Beamforming (STBC-SM-HBF) for Millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications is proposed in order to take advantage of the merits of Spatial Modulation (SM), Space-Time Block Codes (STBC), Analog Beamforming (ABF), and digital precoding techniques while avoiding their drawbacks. This proposed system benefits from the multiplexing gain of SM, from the transmit diversity gain of STBC, and from the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) gain of the beamformer. The simulation results demonstrate that the Zero Forcin…
For a low-mobile Poisson bipolar network and under line-of-sight/non-line-of-sight (LOS/NLOS) path-loss model, we study repetitive retransmissions (RR) and blocked incremental redundancy (B-IR). We consider spatially-coded multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) zero-forcing beamforming (ZFBF) multiplexing system, whereby the packet success reception is determined based on the aggregate data rate across spatial dimensions of the MIMO system. Characterization of retransmission performance in this low-mobile configuration is practically important, but inherently complex due to a substantial rate c…
For broadband wireless communication systems, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has been combined with Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) techniques. Bit-Interleaved Coded Multiple Beamforming (BICMB) can achieve both spatial diversity and spatial multiplexing for flat fading MIMO channels. For frequency selective fading MIMO channels, BICMB with OFDM (BICMB-OFDM) can be applied to achieve both spatial diversity and multipath diversity, making it an important technique. However, analyzing the diversity of BICMB-OFDM is a challenging problem. In this paper, the diversity analysis o…
The polar codes are proven to be capacity-achieving and are shown to have equivalent or even better finite-length performance than the turbo/LDPC codes under some improved decoding algorithms over the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels. Polar coding is based on the so-called channel polarization phenomenon induced by a transform over the underlying binary-input channel. The channel polarization is found to be universal in many signal processing problems and has been applied to the coded modulation schemes. In this paper, the channel polarization is further extended to the multiple a…
An analysis of the diversity gain for bit-interleaved coded multiple beamforming (BICMB) method in millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems is carried out for both the single-user and multi-user scenario. We show that the diversity gain is independent of the number of data streams and full spatial multiplexing order can be achieved in both scenarios. Also, we show that the diversity gain in the multi-user scenario is independent of the number of users in the system and only depends on the number of the remote antenna units (RAUs) at the transmitter side, …
This paper focuses on studying the fundamental performance limits and linear dispersion code design for the MIMO-ARQ slow fading channel. Optimal average rate of well-known HARQ protocols is analyzed. The optimal design of space-time coding for the MIMO-ARQ channel is discussed. Information-theoretic measures are used to optimize the rate assignment and derive the optimum design criterion, which is then used to evaluate the optimality of existing space-time codes. A different design criterion, which is obtained from the error probability analysis of space-time coded MIMO-HARQ, is presented. Ex…
MIMO-NOMA combines Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) and Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA), which can address heterogeneous challenges, such as massive connectivity, low latency, and high reliability. In this paper, a practical coded MIMO-NOMA system with capacityapproaching performance as well as low implementation complexity is proposed. Specifically, the employed receiver consists of a multi-user Linear Minimum Mean-Square Error (LMMSE) detector and a bank of single-user message-passing decoders, which decompose the overall signal recovery into distributed low-complexity calculation…
We provide a comprehensive performance comparison of soft-output and hard-output demodulators in the context of non-iterative multiple-input multiple-output bit-interleaved coded modulation (MIMO-BICM). Coded bit error rate (BER), widely used in literature for demodulator comparison, has the drawback of depending strongly on the error correcting code being used. This motivates us to propose a code-independent performance measure in terms of system capacity, i.e., mutual information of the equivalent modulation channel that comprises modulator, wireless channel, and demodulator. We present exte…
The use of low-precision analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) is a low-cost and power-efficient solution for a millimeter wave (mmWave) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system operating at sampling rates higher than a few Gsample/sec. This solution, however, can make significant frame-error-rates (FERs) degradation due to inter-subcarrier interference when applying conventional frequency-domain equalization techniques. In this paper, we propose computationally-efficient yet near-optimal soft-output detection methods for the coded mmWave MIMO systems with low-precision ADCs. The underlying …
This paper proposes an iterative detection and decoding (IDD) scheme for a cell free massive multiple input multiple output (CF-mMIMO) system. Users send coded data to the access points (APs), which is jointly detected at central processing unit (CPU). The symbols are exchanged iteratively in the form of log likelihood ratios (LLRs) between the detector and the low-density parity check codes (LPDC) decoder, increasing the coded system's performance. We propose a list-based multi-feedback diversity with successive interference cancellation (MF-SIC) to improve the performance of the CF-mMIMO. Fu…
This work deals with turbo coded single user massive multiple input multiple output (SU-MMIMO) systems, with and without precoding. SU-MMIMO has a much higher spectral efficiency compared to multi-user massive MIMO (MU-MMIMO) since independent signals are transmitted from each of the antenna elements (spatial multiplexing). MU-MMIMO that uses beamforming has a much lower spectral efficiency, since the same signal (with a delay) is transmitted from each of the antenna elements. In this work, expressions for the upper bound on the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) per bit and spectral efficien…
Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) techniques have been incorporated with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) for broadband wireless communication systems. Bit-Interleaved Coded Multiple Beamforming (BICMB) can achieve both spatial diversity and spatial multiplexing for flat fading MIMO channels. For frequency selective fading MIMO channels, BICMB with OFDM (BICMB-OFDM) can be employed to provide both spatial diversity and multipath diversity, making it an important technique. In our previous work, the subcarrier grouping technique was applied to combat the negative effect of subcar…
The minimum average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) per bit required for error-free transmission over a fading channel is derived, and is shown to be equal to that of the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel, which is $-1.6$ dB. Discrete-time algorithms are presented for timing and carrier synchronization, as well as channel estimation, for turbo coded multiple input multiple output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) systems. Simulation results show that it is possible to achieve a bit error rate of $10^{-5}$ at an average SNR per bit of 5.5 dB, using two transmit and …
This paper presents a highly robust space-frequency block coded (SFBC) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. The proposed system is based on applying a short block length Walsh Hadamard transform (WHT) after the SFBC encoder. The main advantage of the proposed system is that the channel frequency responses over every two adjacent subcarriers become equal. Such interesting result provides an exceptional operating conditions for SFBC-OFDM systems transmitting over time and frequencyselective fading channels. Monte Carlo simulation is used…
We study the problem of constructing good space-time codes for broadcasting $K$ independent messages over a MIMO network to $L$ users, where each user demands all the messages and already has a subset of messages as side information. As a first attempt, we consider the $2\times 2$ case and propose golden-coded index coding by partitioning the golden codes into $K$ subcodes, one for each message. The proposed scheme is shown to have the property that for any side information configuration, the minimum determinant of the code increases exponentially with the amount of information contained in th…
Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) schemes have been proved to increase the multiple-access achievable rate with respect to orthogonal multiple access (OMA). In this paper we propose a novel communication system that combines multi-level coded modulation and polar codes in a NOMA scenario. Computational complexity decreases with the proposed scheme with respect to state-of-the-art solutions. We also highlight the trade-off between error rate performance and computational complexity.
Multiple cluster scattering MIMO channel is a useful model for pico-cellular MIMO networks. In this paper, orthogonal space-time block coded transmission over such a channel is considered, where the effective channel equals the product of n complex Gaussian matrices. A simple and accurate closed-form approximation to the channel outage capacity has been derived in this setting. The result is valid for an arbitrary number of clusters n-1 of scatterers and an arbitrary antenna configuration. Numerical results are provided to study the relative outage performance between the multi-cluster and the…
