A scheme is proposed to generate an entangled state between two (Lambda-type) four-level atoms that interact effectively by means of a detuned optical cavity and a laser beam that acts perpendicularly to the cavity axis. It is shown how the degree of entanglement for two atoms passing through the cavity can be controlled by manipulating their velocity and the (initial) distance between the atoms. In addition, three realistic schemes are suggested to implement the two-qubit gates within the framework of the suggested atom-cavity-laser setup, namely, the i-swap gate, controlled-Z gate and the controlled-NOT gate. For all these schemes, we analyze and discuss the atomic velocities and inter-atomic distances for which these gates are realized most reliably.
We propose a scheme to implement quantum phase gate for two $Λ$ ions trapped in optical cavity. It is shown that quantum phase gate can be implemented by applying a laser addressing to a single ions in strongly detuned optical cavity. We further demonstrate that geometric quantum phase gate can be implemented by introducing a auxiliary ground state.
We demonstrate that quantum information processing can be implemented with ions trapped in a far detuned optical cavity. For sufficiently large detuning the system becomes insensitive to cavity decay. Following recent experimental progress, this scheme can be implemented with currently available technology.
Higher-order exceptional points (EPs) in non-Hermitian systems have attracted great interest due to their advantages in sensitive enhancement and distinct topological features. However, realization of such EPs is still challenged because more fine-tuning parameters is generically required in quantum systems, compared to the second-order EP (EP2). Here, we propose a non-Hermitian three-mode optomechanical system in the blue-sideband regime for predicting the third-order EP (EP3). By deriving the pseudo-Hermitian condition for the proposed system, one cavity with loss and the other one with gain…
The scenario of a single-mode cavity with harmonically modulated frequency is revisited in the presence of strongly detuned qubit or cyclic qutrit. It is found that when the qubit frequency is close to $3ν$ there is a peak in the photon generation rate via four-photon transitions for the modulation frequency $4ν$, where $ν$ is the average cavity frequency. Effective five-photon processes can occur for the modulation frequency $5ν$ in the presence of a cyclic qutrit, and the corresponding transition rates exhibit series of peaks. Closed analytical description is derived for the unitary evolutio…
Recent experimental advances in the field of cold-atom cavity QED provide a powerful tool for exploring non-equilibrium correlated quantum phenomena beyond conventional condensed-matter scenarios. We present the dynamical phase diagram of a driven Bose-Einstein condensate coupled with the light field of a cavity, with a transverse driving field red-detuned from atomic resonance. We identify regions in parameter space showing dynamical instabilities in the form of limit cycles, which evolve into chaotic behavior in the strong driving limit. Such limit cycles originate from the interplay between…
We consider the simple model of measurement of mechanical oscillator position via Fabry-Pero cavity pumped by detuned laser (end mirror of cavity is mass of oscillator) in resolved sideband regime when laser is detuned from cavity's frequency by frequency of mechanical oscillator $\pmω_m$ and relaxation rate $γ$ of cavity is small: $γ\ll ω_m$. We demonstrate fluctuation back action cancellation in reflected wave. However, it does not allow to circumvent Standard Quantum Limit, the reason of it is the dynamic back action.
We carry out analysis of optomechanical system formed by moveable mirror of Fabry-Perot cavity pumped by detuned laser. Optical spring arising from detuned pump creates in the system several eigen modes which could be treated as high-Q oscillators. Modulation of laser power results in parametric modulation of oscillators spring constants thus allowing to squeeze noise in quadratures of the modes. Evidence of the squeezing could be found in the light reflected from the cavity.
Twin beam fluctuations are analyzed for detuned and mismatched OPO configurations. Resonances and frequency responses to the quantum noise sources (quantum and pump amplitude/phase fluctuations) are examined as functions of cavity decay rates, excitation parameter and detuning. The dependence of self- and mutual correlations of beam amplitudes and phases on detuning, mismatch and damping parameters is discussed.
The measurement of weak continuous forces exerted on a mechanical oscillator is a fundamental problem in various physical experiments. It is fundamentally impeded by quantum back-action from the meter used to sense the displacement of the oscillator. In the context of interferometric displacement measurements, we here propose and demonstrate the working principle of a scheme for coherent back-action cancellation. By measuring the amplitude quadrature of the light reflected from a detuned optomechanical cavity inside which a stiff optical spring is generated, back-action can be cancelled in a n…
A novel regime of atom-cavity physics is explored, arising when large atom samples dispersively interact with high-finesse optical cavities. A stable far detuned optical lattice of several million rubidium atoms is formed inside an optical ring resonator by coupling equal amounts of laser light to each propagation direction of a longitudinal cavity mode. An adjacent longitudinal mode, detunedby about 3 GHz, is used to perform probe transmission spectroscopy of the system. The atom-cavity coupling for the lattice beams and the probe is dispersive and dissipation results only from the finite pho…
We study the quantum limits in an optomechanical sensor based on a detuned high-finesse cavity with a movable mirror. We show that the radiation pressure exerted on the mirror by the light in the detuned cavity induces a modification of the mirror dynamics and makes the mirror motion sensitive to the signal. This leads to an amplification of the signal by the mirror dynamics, and to an improvement of the sensor sensitivity beyond the standard quantum limit, up to an ultimate quantum limit only related to the mechanical dissipation of the mirror. This improvement is somewhat similar to the one …
We propose how to achieve significantly enhanced quantum refrigeration and entanglement by coupling a pumped auxiliary cavity to an optomechanical cavity. We obtain both analytical and numerical results, and find optimal-refrigeration and -entanglement conditions under the auxiliary-cavity-assisted (ACA) mechanism. Our method leads to a giant amplification in the net refrigeration rate, and reveals that the ACA entanglement has a much stronger noise-tolerant ability in comparison with the unassisted case. By appropriately designing the ACA mechanism, an effective mechanical susceptibility can …
While the levitating mirror has seen renewed interest lately, relatively little is known about its quantum behaviour. In this paper we present a quantum theory of a one dimensional levitating mirror. The mirror forms a part of a Fabry-Perot cavity where the circulating intracavity field supports the mirror through radiation pressure alone. We find a blue and red detuned steady-state of which only the blue detuned solution with damping on the mirror and cavity is stable. We find strong entanglement (15-20 ebits) between the mirror output and cavity output and squeezing in the mirror position.
Recently it has been demonstrated that the combination of weak-continuous position detection with detuned parametric driving can lead to significant steady-state mechanical squeezing, far beyond the 3 dB limit normally associated with parametric driving. In this work, we show the close connection between this detuned scheme and quantum non-demolition (QND) measurement of a single mechanical quadrature. In particular, we show that applying an experimentally realistic detuned parametric drive to a cavity optomechanical system allows one to effectively realize a QND measurement despite being in t…
We investigate economic protocol to securely encoding classical information among three users via entangled GHZ states. We implement the scheme in cavity QED with atomic qubits where the atoms interact simultaneously with a highly detuned cavity mode with the assistance of a classical field. The scheme is insensitive to the cavity decay and the thermal field, thus based on cavity QED techniques presently it might be realizable.
We propose a scheme to create universal Dicke states of n largely detuned atoms through detecting the leaky photons from an optical cavity. The generation of entangled states in our scheme has quasi-unit success probability, so it has potential practicability based on current or near coming laboratory cavity QED technology.
By integrating the techniques of laser cooling and trapping with those of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED), single Cesium atoms have been trapped within the mode of a small, high finesse optical cavity in a regime of strong coupling. The observed lifetime for individual atoms trapped within the cavity mode is $τ\approx 28$ms, and is limited by fluctuations of light forces arising from the far-detuned intracavity field. This initial realization of trapped atoms in cavity QED should enable diverse protocols in quantum information science.
We have studied the coherent excitation of a strongly coupled QD/photonic crystal cavity system. Time-resolved reflectivity measurements show the vacuum Rabi oscillation of the dot in the cavity. Next, we considered the resonant driving of a cavity-detuned dot, which efficiently populates the cavity mode. This cavity-controlled read-out channel allows high-resolution single quantum dot spectroscopy. Autocorrelation measurements on the cavity mode show antibunching and suggest the use of the resonantly driven QD/cavity system as an on-demand source of single photons with potentially near-unity …
This paper is devoted to energy-spectral analysis for the system of a two-level atom coupled with photons in a cavity. It is shown that the Dicke-type energy level crossings take place when the atom-cavity interaction of the system undergoes changes between the weak coupling regime and the strong one. Using the phenomenon of the crossings we develop the idea of cavity-induced atom cooling proposed by the group of Ritsch, and we lay mathematical foundations of a possible mechanism for another superradiant cooling in addition to that proposed by Domokos and Ritsch. The process of our superradian…
This paper presents the nonlinear dynamics of laser cooled and trapped cesium atoms placed inside an optical cavity and interacting with a probe light beam slightly detuned from the 6S1/2(F=4) to 6P3/2(F=5) transition. The system exhibits very strong bistability and instabilities. The origin of the latter is found to be a competition between optical pumping and non-linearities due to saturation of the optical transition.
The on-chip generation of non-classical states of light is a key-requirement for future optical quantum hardware. In solid-state cavity quantum electrodynamics, such non-classical light can be generated from self-assembled quantum dots strongly coupled to photonic crystal cavities. Their anharmonic strong light-matter interaction results in large optical nonlinearities at the single photon level, where the admission of a single photon into the cavity may enhance (photon-tunnelling) or diminish (photon-blockade) the probability for a second photon to enter the cavity. Here, we demonstrate that …
We present a new paradigm in the field of cavity QED by bringing out remarkable features associated with the avoided crossing of the dressed state levels of the Jaynes Cummings model. We demonstrate how the parametric couplings, realized by a second order nonlinearity in the cavity, can turn the crossing of dressed states into avoided crossings. We show how one can generate coherence between the avoided crossing of dressed states. Such coherences result, for example, in quantum beats in the excitation probability of the qubit. The quality of quantum beats can be considerably improved by adiaba…
The unconditionally squeezing of the collective spin of an atomic ensemble in a laser driven optical cavity (I. D. Leroux, M. H. Schleier-Smith, and V. Vuletic, Phys. Rev. Lett 104, 073602 (2010)) is studied and analyzed theoretically. Surprisingly, we find that the largely detuned driving laser can improve the scaling of cavity squeezing from $S^{-2/5}$ to $S^{-2/3}$, where S is the total atomic spin. Moreover, we also demonstrate that the experimental imperfection of photon scattering into free space can be efficiently suppressed by detuning.
An entanglement concentration scheme for unknown atomic entanglement states is proposed via entanglement swapping in cavity QED. Because the interaction used here is a large-detuned one between two driven atoms and a quantized cavity mode, the effects of the cavity decay and thermal field have been eliminated. These advantages can warrant the experimental feasibility of the current scheme.
We study the relation between wavefunction (de)localization and the avoided crossing in a quadrupole billiard. We employ the inverse participation ratio, the Renyi entropy and the root-mean-square (rms) image contrast as the three types of measures for wavefunction (de)localization. It is found that all these measures behave similarly, exhibiting a minimum at the center of avoided crossing, where wavefunction is maximally delocalized. Our results show that these quantities can be good indicators for wavefunction (de)localization although the rms contrast yields the most sensitive measure among…
We present a scheme to realise the basic two-quibit logic gates such as quantum phase gate and controlle-NOT gate using a detuned optical cavity interacting with a three-level Raman system. We discuss the role of Stark shifts which are as important as the terms leading to two-photon transition. The operation of the proposed logic gates involves metastable states of the atom and hence is not affected by spontaneous emission. These ideas can be extended to produce multiparticle entanglement.
Here we present a quantum electrodynamics (QED) model involving a large-detuned single-mode cavity field and $n$ identical two-level atoms. One of its applications for the preparation of the multi-particle states is analyzed. In addition to the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state, the W class states can also be generated in this scheme. The further analysis for the experiment of the model of $n=2$ case is also presented by considering the possible three-atom collision.
We report on theoretical and numerical study of propagation of atomic beams crossing a detuned standing-wave laser beam in the geometric optics limit. The interplay between external and internal atomic degrees of freedom is used to manipulate the atomic motion along the optical axis by light. By adjusting the atom-laser detuning, we demonstrate how to focus, split and scatter atomic beams in a real experiment. The novel effect of chaotic scattering of atoms at a regular near-resonant standing wave is found numerically and explained qualitatively. Some applications of the effects found are disc…
We study collective effects in an inhomogeneously broadened ensemble of two-level emitters coupled to an optical cavity with narrow linewidth. Using second order mean field theory we find that the emitters within a few times the cavity linewidth exhibit synchronous behaviour and undergo collective Rabi oscillations. Under proper conditions, the synchronized oscillations give rise to a modulated intracavity field which can excite emitters detuned by many linewidths from the cavity resonance. To study the synchronization in further detail, we simplify the model and consider two ensembles and stu…
Spin-spin interactions generated by a detuned cavity are a standard mechanism for generating highly entangled spin squeezed states. We show here how introducing a weak detuned parametric (two-photon) drive on the cavity provides a powerful means for controlling the form of the induced interactions. Without a drive, the induced interactions cannot generate Heisenberg-limited spin squeezing, but a weak optimized drive gives rise to an ideal two-axis twist interaction and Heisenberg-limited squeezing. Parametric driving is also advantageous in regimes limited by dissipation, and enables an altern…
A potential scheme is proposed to generate complete sets of entangled photons in the context of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED). The scheme includes twice interactions of atoms with cavities, in which the first interaction is made in two-mode optical cavities and the second one exists in a microwave cavity. In the optical cavities the atoms are resonant with the cavity modes, while the detuned interaction of the atoms with a single-mode of the microwave cavity is driven by a classical field. We show that our scheme is carried out with higher efficiency than previeous schemes, and is close…
The connectivity and tunability of superconducting quantum devices provide a rich platform to build quantum simulators and study novel many-body physics. Here we study quantum phase transition in a detuned multi-connected Jaynes-Cummings lattice, which can be constructed with superconducting circuits. This model is composed of alternatively connected qubits and cavity modes. Using a numerical method, we show that by varying the detuning between the qubits and the cavities, a phase transition from the superfluid phase to the Mott insulator phase occurs at commensurate fillings in a one-dimensio…
We study a photonic circuit consisting of a quantum dot, QD, coupled to a photon cavity over a wide range of temperature up to room temperature. A key component of such a system is presented here in the form of a Purcell-enhanced single-photon source based on Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics, cQED. We use a real set of pure dephasing data extracted from experimental measurements of InGaAs QD to calculate the effective QD-cavity coupling strength, the Purcell factor, and the single photon efficiency emerged from the QD-cavity system in the cases without and with detuning. In the non-detuned syste…
We consider ultracold atoms in a far detuned optical lattice orientated across a high-Q optical resonator. Applying an external driving laser to the atoms, which is red detuned from the cavity mode by one vibrational quantum, induces cavity-enhanced sideband cooling. For a dense and cold enough atomic ensemble we predict an oscillation threshold for optical Raman sideband lasing concurrent with coherent matter-wave amplification. Above this oscillation threshold photons and atoms in the lowest band are dominantly created pairwise via stimulated emission with a strong suppression of competing s…
We present a study on how to realize the widely interested optomechanical entanglement at high temperature. Unlike the majority of the previous experimental and theoretical researches that consider the entanglement of a mechanical resonator with a cavity field created by red-detuned continuous-wave or blue-detuned pulsed driving field, we find that applying blue-detuned continuous-wave pump field to cavity optomechanical systems can achieve considerable degrees of quantum entanglement, which is generally challenging to obtain at high temperature for the known physical systems. The competition …
We propose a scheme for realizing a two-qubit controlled phase gate via an unconventional geometric phase with two nonresonant quantum dots trapped in a photonic crystal cavity. In this system, the quantum dots simultaneously interact with a large detuned cavity mode and strong driving classical light fields. During the gate operation, the quantum dots undergo no transitions, while the cavity mode is displaced along a closed path in the phase space. In this way, the system can acquire geometric phases conditional upon the states of the quantum dots. After implementing single-qubit operations, …
We investigate the interplay dynamics of a cavity qed system, where the two-level atoms are trapped in a double-well potential, and the cavity mode, with a frequency largely detuned to the atomic level splitting, is driven by a probe laser. The interaction between the center-of-mass motion of the atoms and the cavity mode is induced by the position dependent atom-field coupling. The dynamics of the system is characterized by two distinct time scales, the inverse of the atomic interwell tunneling rate and the inverse of the cavity loss rate. The system shows drastically different (quasi) steady…
In this paper we consider an initially excited two-level system coupled to a monomode cavity, and compute exact expressions for the spectra spontaneously emitted by each system in the general case where they have arbitrary linewidths and frequencies. Our method is based on the fact that this problem has an easily solvable classical counterpart, which provides a clear interpretation of the evidenced phenomena. We show that if the cavity linewidth is much lower than the atomic linewidth, photons are emitted at the cavity frequency, even if the atom and the cavity are strongly detuned. We also st…
Using the highly detuned interaction between three-level $Λ$-type atoms and coherent optical fields, we can realize the C-NOT gates from atoms to atoms, optical fields to optical fields, atoms to optical fields and optical fields to atoms. Based on the realization of the C-NOT gates we propose an entanglement purification scheme to purify a mixed entangled states of coherent optical fields. The simplicity of the current scheme makes it possible that it will be implemented in experiment in the near future.
We propose a scheme generating robust squeezed light by using double cavity optomechanical system driven by a blue detuned laser in one cavity and by a red detuned laser in the other. This double cavity system is shown to mimic effectively an interaction that is similar to the one for the downconverter, which is known to be a source of strong squeezing for the light fields. There are however distinctions as the phonons, which lead to such an interaction, can contribute to the quantum noise. We show that the squeezing of the output fields in the order of $10$dB can be achieved even at the mirro…
We suggest that atoms undergoing Bragg deflection from a cavity field introduce entanglement between their external degrees of freedom. The atoms interact with an electromagnetic cavity field which is far detuned from atomic transition frequency and is in superposition state. We provide a set of experimental parameters in order to perform the suggested experiment within the frame work of the presently available technology.
A single atom strongly coupled to a cavity mode is stored by three-dimensional confinement in blue-detuned cavity modes of different longitudinal and transverse order. The vanishing light intensity at the trap center reduces the light shift of all atomic energy levels. This is exploited to detect a single atom by means of a dispersive measurement with 95% confidence in 0.010 ms, limited by the photon-detection efficiency. As the atom switches resonant cavity transmission into cavity reflection, the atom can be detected while scattering about one photon.
We propose a method based on compressed sensing (CS) to measure the evolution processes of the states of a driven cavity quantum electrodynamics system. In precisely reconstructing the coherent cavity field amplitudes, we have to prepare the same states repetitively and each time perform one measurement with short sampling intervals considering the quantum nature of measurement and the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem. However, with the help of CS, the number of measurements can be exponentially reduced without loss of the recovery accuracy. We use largely detuned atoms and control their inter…
The quantum theory of the cold atom micromaser including the effects of gravity is established in the general case where the cavity mode and the atomic transition frequencies are detuned. We show that atoms which classically would not reach the interaction region are able to emit a photon inside the cavity. The system turns out to be extremely sensitive to the detuning and in particular to its sign. A method to solve the equations of motion for non resonant atom-field interaction and arbitrary cavity modes is presented.
In this paper I study the dynamics of a two-level atom interacting with a standing wave field. When the atom is subjected to a weak linear force, the problem can be turned into a time dependent one, and the evolution is understood from the band structure of the spectrum. The presence of level crossings in the spectrum gives rise to Bloch oscillations of the atomic motion. Here I investigate the effects of the atom-field detuning parameter. A variety of different level crossings are obtained by changing the magnitude of the detuning, and the behaviour of the atomic motion is strongly affected d…
Quantum state transfer between cavities is crucial for quantum information processing and quantum computation in optomechanical systems. Here, we present the first scheme for the transitionless intra-cavity quantum state transfer based on transitionless quantum driving (TQD) algorithm in optomechanical systems. We also present a physically feasible system for the TQD process based on largely detuned optomechanical cavity. With the Gaussian time-dependence coupling strengths, our scheme can achieve the perfect quantum state transfer with no undesired transition and reduce the dependence of accu…
We propose a single-atom, cavity quantum electrodynamics system, compatible with recently demonstrated, fiber-integrated micro- and nano-cavity setups, for the on-demand production of optical number-state, $0N$-state, and binomial-code-state pulses. The scheme makes use of Raman transitions within an entire atomic ground-state hyperfine level and operates with laser and cavity fields detuned from the atomic transition by much more than the excited-state hyperfine splitting. This enables reduction of the dynamics to that of a simple, cavity-damped Tavis-Cummings model with the collective spin d…
The radiation pressure of two detuned laser beams can create a stable trap for a suspended cavity mirror; here it is shown that such a configuration entangles the output light fields via interaction with the mirror. Intra-cavity, the opto-mechanical system can become entangled also. The degree of entanglement is quantified spectrally using the logarithmic negativity. Entanglement survives in the experimentally accessible regime of gram-scale masses subject to thermal noise at room temperature.
We study creation of entanglement and quantum steering in a parity-time- (PT -) symmetric cavity magnomechanical system. There is magnetic dipole interaction between the cavity and photon-magnon, and there is also magnetostrictive interaction which is induced by the phononmagnon coupling in this system. By introducing blue-detuned driving microwave field to the system, the bipartite entanglement of the system with PT -symmetry is significantly enhanced versus the case in the conventional cavity magnomechanical systems (loss-loss systems). Moreover, the one-way quantum steering between magnon-p…
In this paper, we propose a scheme for generating steady-state entanglement of remote micromechanical oscillators in unidirectionally-coupled cavities. For the system of two mechanical oscillators, we show that when two cavity modes in each cavity are driven at red- and blue-detuned sidebands, respectively, a stationary two-mode squeezed vacuum state of the two mechanical oscillators can be generated with the help of the cavity dissipation. The degree of squeezing is controllable by adjusting the relative strength of the pump lasers. Our calculations also show that the achieved mechanical enta…
The response to a probe laser beam of a suspended, misaligned and detuned optical cavity is examined. A five degree of freedom model of the fluctuations of the longitudinal and transverse mirror coordinates is presented. Classical and quantum mechanical effects of radiation pressure are studied with the help of the optical stiffness coefficients and the signals provided by an FM sideband technique and a quadrant detector, for generic values of the product $\varpi τ$ of the fluctuation frequency times the cavity round trip. A simplified version is presented for the case of small misalignments. …
We propose a simple method for generating spin squeezing of atomic ensembles in a Floquet cavity subject to a weak, detuned two-photon driving. We demonstrate that {\it the weak squeezing of light inside the cavity can, counterintuitively, induce strong spin squeezing}. This is achieved by exploiting the anti-Stokes scattering process of a photon pair interacting with an atom. Specifically, {\it one photon of the photon pair is scattered into the cavity resonance by absorbing partially the energy of the other photon whose remaining energy excites the atom}. The scattering, combined with a Floq…
We propose a scheme for realizing two-qubit quantum phase gates via an unconventional geometric phase shift with atoms in a cavity. In the scheme the atoms interact simultaneously with a highly detuned cavity mode and a classical field. The atoms undergo no transitions during the gate operation, while the cavity mode is displaced along a circle in the phase space, aquiring a geometric phase conditional upon the atomic state. Under certain conditions, the atoms are disentangled with the cavity mode and thus the gate is insensitive to both the atomic spontaneous emission and the cavity decay.
Cavity optomechanics offers powerful methods for controlling optical fields and mechanical motion. A number of proposals have predicted that this control can be extended considerably in devices where multiple cavity modes couple to each other via the motion of a single mechanical oscillator. Here we study the dynamical properties of such a multimode optomechanical device, in which the coupling between cavity modes results from mechanically-induced avoided crossings in the cavity's spectrum. Near the avoided crossings we find that the optical spring shows distinct features that arise from the i…
