We consider the variety of pre-Lie algebra structures on a given n-dimensional vector space. The group GL_n(K) acts on it, and we study the closure of the orbits with respect to the Zariski topology. This leads to the definition of pre-Lie algebra degenerations. We give fundamental results on such degenerations, including invariants and necessary degeneration criteria. We demonstrate the close relationship to Lie algebra degenerations. Finally we classify all orbit closures in the variety of complex 2-dimensional pre-Lie algebras.
In this work, we consider degenerations between 8-dimensional 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras over $\mathbb{C}$ and obtain the geometric classification of the variety $\mathcal{N}^2_8$.
We describe degenerations of four-dimensional binary Lie algebras, and five- and six-dimensional nilpotent Malcev algebras over \mathbb{C}. In particular, we describe all irreducible components of these varieties.
For each complex 8-dimensional filiform Lie algebra we find another non isomorphic Lie algebra that degenerates to it. Since this is already known for nilpotent Lie algebras of rank $\ge 1$, only the caracteristically nilpotent ones should be considered.
We study the varieties of Lie algebra laws and their subvarieties of nilpotent Lie algebra laws. We classify all degenerations of (almost all) five-step and six-step nilpotent seven-dimensional complex Lie algebras. One of the main tools is the use of trivial and adjoint cohomology of these algebras. In addition, we give some new results on the varieties of complex Lie algebra laws in low dimension.
For most complex 9-dimensional filiform Lie algebra we find another non isomorphic Lie algebra that degenerates to it. Since this is already known for nilpotent Lie algebras of rank $\geq 1$, only the characteristically nilpotent ones should be considered.
We give necessary conditions for the existence of degenerations between two complex Lie superalgebras of dimension $(m,n)$. As an application, we study the variety $\mathcal{LS}^{(2,2)}$ of complex Lie superalgebras of dimension $(2,2)$. First we give the algebraic classification and then obtain that $\mathcal{LS}^{(2,2)}$ is the union of seven irreducible components, three of which are the Zariski closures of rigid Lie superalgebras. As byproduct, we obtain an example of a nilpotent rigid Lie superalgebra, in contrast to the classical case where no example is known.
We study the degeneration relations on the varieties of associative and Lie algebra structures on a fixed finite dimensional vector space and give a description of them in terms of Gerstenhaber formal deformations. We use this result to show how the orbit closure of the $3$-dimensional Lie algebras can be determined using homological algebra. For the case of finite dimensional associative algebras, we prove that the $N$-Koszul property is preserved under the degeneration relation for all $N\geq2$.
We introduce the PBW degeneration for basic classical Lie superalgebras and construct for all type I, $\mathfrak{osp}(1,2n)$ and exceptional Lie superalgebras new monomial bases. These bases are parametrized by lattice points in convex lattice polytopes, sharing useful properties such as the integer decomposition property. This paper is the first step towards extending the framework of PBW degenerations to the Lie superalgebra setting.
Let $\boldsymbolΛ_3(\mathbb C)\,(=\mathbb C^{27})$ be the space of structure vectors of $3$-dimensional algebras over $\mathbb C$ considered as a $G$-module via the action of $G={\rm GL}(3,\mathbb C)$ on $\boldsymbolΛ_3(\mathbb C)$ `by change of basis'. We determine the complete degeneration picture inside the algebraic subset $\mathcal A^s_3$ of $\boldsymbolΛ_3(\mathbb C)$ consisting of associative algebra structures via the corresponding information on the algebraic subsets $\mathcal L_3$ and $\mathcal J_3$ of $\boldsymbolΛ_3(\mathbb C)$ of Lie and Jordan algebra structures respectively. Thi…
Grunewald and O'Halloran conjectured in 1993 that every complex nilpotent Lie algebra is the degeneration of another, non isomorphic, Lie algebra. We prove the conjecture for the class of nilpotent Lie algebras admitting a semisimple derivation, remaining open for the class of characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras. In dimension 7, where the first characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras appear, we prove the conjecture and we also exhibit explicit nontrivial degenerations to every 7-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebra.
For each $n\ge2$ we classify all $n$-dimensional algebras over an arbitrary infinite field which have the property that the $n$-dimensional abelian Lie algebra is their only proper degeneration.
We consider the variety of Filippov ($n$-Lie) algebra structures on an $(n+1)$-dimensional vector space. The group $GL_n(K)$ acts on it, and we study the orbit closures with respect to the Zariski topology. This leads to the definition of Filippov algebra degenerations. We present some fundamental results on such degenerations, including trace invariants and necessary degeneration criteria. Finally, we classify all orbit closures in the variety of complex $(n+1)$-dimensional Filippov $n$-ary algebras.
The complex Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{g}$ of type $D(2,1;a)$ - also denoted by $\mathfrak{osp}(4,2;a) $ - are usually considered for "non-singular" values of the parameter $a$, for which they are simple. In this paper we introduce five suitable integral forms of $\mathfrak{g}$, that are well-defined at singular values too, giving rise to "singular specializations" that are no longer simple: this extends the family of simple objects of type $D(2,1;a)$ in five different ways. The resulting five families coincide for general values of $a$, but are different at "singular" ones: here they provid…
The present paper is devoted to the description of rigid solvable Leibniz algebras. In particular, we prove that solvable Leibniz algebras under some conditions on the nilradical are rigid and we describe four-dimensional solvable Leibniz algebras with three-dimensional rigid nilradical. We show that the Grunewald-O'Halloran's conjecture "any $n$-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebra is a degeneration of some algebra of the same dimension" holds for Lie algebras of dimensions less than six and for Leibniz algebras of dimensions less than four. The algebra of level one, which is omitted in the 1991…
The property of degeneration of modular graded Lie algebras, first investigated by B. Weisfeiler, is analyzed. Transitive irreducible graded Lie algebras $L=\sum_{i\in \mathbb Z}L_i,$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>2,$ with classical reductive component $L_0$ are considered. We show that if a non-degenerate Lie algebra $L$ contains a transitive degenerate subalgebra $L'$ such that $\dim L'_1>1,$ then $L$ is an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra.
The aim of this paper is to review the deformation theory of $n$-Lie algebras. We summarize the 1-parameter formal deformation theory and provide a generalized approach using any unital commutative associative algebra as a deformation base. Moreover, we discuss degenerations and quantization of $n$-Lie algebras.
We apply the Nash-Moser theorem for exact sequences of R. Hamilton to the context of deformations of Lie algebras and we discuss some aspects of the scope of this theorem in connection with the polynomial ideal associated to the variety of nilpotent Lie algebras. This allows us to introduce the space $H_{k-nil}^2(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g})$, and certain subspaces of it, that provide fine information about the deformations of $\mathfrak{g}$ in the variety of $k$-step nilpotent Lie algebras. Then we focus on degenerations and rigidity in the variety of $k$-step nilpotent Lie algebras of dimensio…
We classify hom-Lie structures with nilpotent twisting map on $3$-dimensional complex Lie algebras, up to isomorphism, and classify all degenerations in such family. The ideas and techniques presented here can be easily extrapolated to study similar problems in other algebraic structures and provide different perspectives from where one can tackle classical open problems of interest in rigid Lie algebras.
For any finite graph Gamma and any field K of characteristic unequal to 2 we construct an algebraic variety X over K whose K-points parameterise K-Lie algebras generated by extremal elements, corresponding to the vertices of the graph, with prescribed commutation relations, corresponding to the non-edges. After that, we study the case where Gamma is a connected, simply laced Dynkin diagram of finite or affine type. We prove that X is then an affine space, and that all points in an open dense subset of X parameterise Lie algebras isomorphic to a single fixed Lie algebra. If Gamma is of affine t…
In this paper, we study a preprojective algebra for quivers decorated with $k$-algebras and bimodules, which generalizes work of Gabriel for ordinary quivers, work of Dlab and Ringel for $k$-species, and recent work of de Thanhoffer de Völcsey and Presotto, which has recently appeared from a different perspective in work of Külshammer. As for undecorated quivers, we show that its moduli space of representations recovers the Hamiltonian reduction of the cotangent bundle over the space of representations of the decorated quiver. These algebras yield degenerations of ordinary preprojective algebr…
We prove that there exists just one pair of complex four-dimensional Lie algebras such that a well-defined contraction among them is not equivalent to a generalized IW-contraction (or to a one-parametric subgroup degeneration in conventional algebraic terms). Over the field of real numbers, this pair of algebras is split into two pairs with the same contracted algebra. The example we constructed demonstrates that even in the dimension four generalized IW-contractions are not sufficient for realizing all possible contractions, and this is the lowest dimension in which generalized IW-contraction…
