We explore the Matsubara quasiparticle fraction and the pseudogap of the two-dimensional Hubbard model with the dynamical cluster quantum Monte Carlo method. The character of the quasiparticle fraction changes from non-Fermi liquid, to marginal Fermi liquid to Fermi liquid as a function of doping, indicating the presence of a quantum critical point separating non-Fermi liquid from Fermi liquid character. Marginal Fermi liquid character is found at low temperatures at a very narrow range of doping where the single-particle density of states is also symmetric. At higher doping the character of the quasiparticle fraction is seen to cross over from Fermi Liquid to Marginal Fermi liquid as the temperature increases.
A variational Monte Carlo calculation is used for studying the ground state of the two-dimensional Hubbard model, including hopping between both nearest and next-nearest neighbor sites. Superconductivity with d-wave symmetry is found to be restricted to densities where the Fermi surface crosses the magnetic zone boundary. The condensate energy is much larger for hole doping than for electron doping. Superconductivity is kinetic energy driven for hole doping, but potential energy driven for electron doping. Our findings agree surprisingly well with experimental data for layered cuprates, both f…
We present determinant quantum Monte Carlo simulations of the hole-doped single-band Hubbard-Holstein model on a square lattice, to investigate how quasiparticles emerge when doping a Mott insulator (MI) or a Peierls insulator (PI). The MI regime at large Hubbard interaction $U$ and small relative electron-phonon coupling strength $λ$ is quickly suppressed upon doping, by drawing spectral weight from the upper Hubbard band and shifting the lower Hubbard band towards the Fermi level, leading to a metallic state with emergent quasiparticles at the Fermi level. On the other hand, the PI regime at…
We show that doping-induced charge fluctuations in strongly correlated Hubbard electron systems near the 1/2-filled, insulating limit cause overscreening of the electron-electron Coulomb repulsion. The resulting attractive screened interaction potential supports d_{x^2-y^2}-pairing with a strongly peaked, doping dependent pairing strength at lower doping, followed by s-wave pairing at larger doping levels.
In this simple note, we suggest a way to rigorously establishing constraints on the form of the ground states of the Hubbard and t-J models and extended longer (yet finite) range variants for various dopings, once exact numerical results are established for these Hamiltonians on finite size clusters with two different (both open and periodic) boundary conditions. We demonstrate that strong bounds will be established if non-uniform minima subject periodic boundary conditions are found. An offshoot of our proposal might enable rigorously establishing the strong tendency toward especially stable …
We compare the one-loop renormalization group flow to strong coupling of the electronic interactions in the two-dimensional t-t'-Hubbard model with t'=-0.3t for band fillings smaller and larger than half-filling. Using a numerical N-patch scheme (N=32...96) we show that in the electron-doped case with decreasing electron density there is a rapid transition from a d(x^2-y^2)-wave superconducting regime with small characteristic energy scale to an approximate nesting regime with strong antiferromagnetic tendencies and higher energy scales. This contrasts with the hole-doped side discussed recent…
We study the Kane-Mele-Hubbard model both at half-filling and away from half-filling using a slave-boson mean-field approach at zero temperature. We obtain a phase diagram at half-filling and discuss its connection to recent results from quantum Monte Carlo, slave-rotor, and $Z_2$ mean-field studies. In particular, we find a small window in parameter space where a spin liquid phase with gapped spin and charge excitations reside. Upon doping, we show the spin liquid state becomes a superconducting state by explicitly calculating the singlet pairing order parameters. Interestingly, we find an "o…
At temperatures above the superconducting transition temperature the pairfield susceptibility provides information on the nature of the pairfield fluctuations. Here we study the d-wave pairfield susceptibility of a 2D Hubbard model for dopings which have a pseudogap (PG) and for dopings which do not. One knows that in both cases there will be a region of Kosterlitz-Thouless fluctuations as the transition at $T_{KT}$ is approached. Above this region we find evidence for Emery-Kivelson phase fluctuations for dopings with a PG and Gaussian amplitude fluctuations for dopings without a PG.
Experiments on layered materials call for a study of the influence of short-range spin correlations on the Mott transition. To this end, we solve the cluster dynamical mean-field equations for the Hubbard model on a plaquette with continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo. The normal state phase diagram as a function of temperature $T$, interaction strength $U$ and filling $n$ reveals that upon increasing $n$ towards the insulator, there is a surface of first-order transition between two metals at non-zero doping. For $T$ above the critical end line there is a maximum in scattering rate.
Within the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave-boson approach, we have studied the antiferromagnetic (AF) properties for the $t$-$t'$-$t''$-$U$ model applied to electron-doped cuprate superconductors. Due to inclusion of spin fluctuations the AF order decreases with doping much faster than obtained in the Hartree-Fock theory. Under an intermediate {\it constant} $U$ the calculated doping evolution of the spectral intensity has satisfactorily reproduced the experimental results, without need of a strongly doping-dependent $U$ as argued earlier. This may reconcile a discrepancy suggested in recent studies…
We study the twisted Hubbard model of a cuprate bilayer at a fixed twist angle $θ=53.13^{\circ}$ using the variational cluster approximation, a method that treats short-range dynamical correlations exactly. At intermediate interlayer tunneling, the phase difference $ϕ$ between the $d$-wave order parameters of two layers is $π$ in the overdoped regime, while it is zero in the underdoped regime, close to the Mott phase. At strong interlayer tunneling, we observe a clear time-reversal symmetry breaking phase near optimal doping, in which the phase difference $ϕ$ changes continuously from 0 to $π$…
We study the thermodynamics of the two-dimensional Hubbard model within the dynamical cluster approximation. We use continuous time quantum Monte Carlo as a cluster solver to avoid the systematic error which complicates the calculation of the entropy and potential energy (double occupancy). We find that at a critical filling, there is a pronounced peak in the entropy divided by temperature, S/T, and in the normalized double occupancy as a function of doping. At this filling, we find that specific heat divided by temperature, C/T, increases strongly with decreasing temperature and kinetic and p…
We present theoretical analysis of Hall effect in doped Mott-Hubbard insulator, considered as a prototype of cuprate superconductor. We consider the standard Hubbard model within DMFT approximation. As a typical case we consider the partially filled (hole doping) lower Hubbard band. We calculate the doping dependence of both the Hall coefficient and Hall number and determine the value of carrier concentration, where Hall effect changes its sign. We obtain a significant dependence of Hall effect parameters on temperature. Disorder effects are taken into account in a qualitative way.We also perf…
We show that antiferromagnetic spin-density wave order in the two-dimensional Hubbard model yields a drop of the charge carrier density as observed in recent transport measurements for cuprate superconductors in high magnetic fields upon entering the pseudogap regime. The amplitude and the (generally incommensurate) wave vector of the spin-density wave is obtained from dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). An extrapolation of the finite temperature results to zero temperature yields an approximately linear doping dependence of the magnetic gap $Δ(p) \propto p^*-p$ in a broad doping range below t…
We present a numerical study on non-Fermi liquid behaviour of a three dimensional system. The Hubbard model in a cubic lattice is simulated by the dynamical cluster approximation, in particular the quasi-particle weight is calculated at finite dopings for a range of temperatures. Near the putative quantum critical point, we find evidence of a separatrix at a finite doping which separates the Fermi liquid from non-Fermi liquid as the doping increases. Our results suggest that a marginal Fermi liquid and possibly a quantum critical point should exist in the three dimensions interacting Fermi sys…
The isotope effect (IE) in the two-dimensional Hubbard model with Holstein phonons is studied using the dynamical cluster approximation with quantum Monte Carlo. At small electron-phonon (EP) coupling the IE is negligible. For larger EP coupling there is a large and positive IE on the superconducting temperature that decreases with increasing doping. A significant IE also appears in the low-energy density of states, kinetic energy and charge excitation spectrum. A negligible IE is found in the pseudogap and antiferromagnetic (AF) properties at small doping whereas the AF susceptibility at inte…
We show numerically that the nature of the doping induced metal-insulator transition in the two-dimensional Hubbard model is radically altered by the inclusion of a term, $W$, which depends upon a square of a single-particle nearest-neighbor hopping. This result is reached by computing the localization length, $ξ_l$, in the insulating state. At finite values of $W$ we find results consistent with $ξ_l \sim | μ- μ_c|^{- 1/2} $ where $μ_c$ is the critical chemical potential. In contrast, $ξ_l \sim | μ- μ_c|^{-1/4}$ for the Hubbard model. At finite values of $W$, the presented numerical results i…
We study the magnetic and charge dynamical response of a Hubbard model in a two-leg ladder geometry using the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method and the random phase approximation within the fluctuation-exchange approximation (RPA+FLEX). Our calculations reveal that RPA+FLEX can capture the main features of the magnetic response from weak up to intermediate Hubbard repulsion for doped ladders, when compared with the numerically exact DMRG results. However, while at weak Hubbard repulsion both the spin and charge spectra can be understood in terms of weakly-interacting electron-…
Motivated by the recent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) on FeSe and iron pnictide families of iron-based superconductors, we have studied the orbital nematic order and its interplay with antiferromagnetism within the two-orbital Hubbard model. We used random phase approximation (RPA) to calculate the dependence of the orbital and magnetic susceptibilities on the strength of interactions and electron density (doping). To account for strong electron correlations not captured by RPA, we further employed non-perturbative variational cluster approximation (VCA) capable of capturin…
Cluster perturbation theory is applied to the two-dimensional Hubbard $t-t'-t''-U$ model to obtain doping and temperature dependent electronic spectral function with $4 \times 4$ and 12-site clusters. It is shown that evolution of the pseudogap and electronic dispersion with doping and temperature is similar and in both cases it is significantly influenced by spin-spin short-range correlations. When short-range magnetic order is weakened by doping or temperature and Hubbard-I like electronic dispersion becomes more pronounced, the Fermi arc turns into large Fermi surface and the pseudogap clos…
We carry out a detailed numerical study of the three-band Hubbard model in the underdoped region both in the hole- as well as in the electron-doped case by means of the variational cluster approach. Both the phase diagram and the low-energy single-particle spectrum are very similar to recent results for the single-band Hubbard model with next-nearest-neighbor hoppings. In particular, we obtain a mixed antiferromagnetic+superconducting phase at low doping with a first-order transition to a pure superconducting phase accompanied by phase separation. In the single-particle spectrum a clear Zhang-…

A phase diagram of two Mott-Hubbard planes interacting with a short-range Coulomb repulsion is presented. Considering the case of equal amount of doping by holes in one layer as electrons in the other, a holon-doublon inter-layer exciton formation is shown to be a natural consequence of Coulomb attraction. Quasiparticle spectrum is gapped and incoherent below a critical doping $δ_c$ due to the formation of excitons. A spin liquid insulator (SLI) phase is thus realized without the lattice frustration. The critical value $δ_{c}$ sensitively depends on the inter-layer interaction strength. In the…
We study the competition between stripe states with different periods and a uniform $d$-wave superconducting state in the extended 2D Hubbard model at 1/8 hole doping using infinite projected entangled-pair states (iPEPS). With increasing strength of negative next-nearest neighbor hopping $t'$, the preferred period of the stripe decreases. For the values of $t'$ predicted for cuprate high-T$_c$ superconductors, we find stripes with a period 4 in the charge order, in agreement with experiments. Superconductivity in the period 4 stripe is suppressed at $1/8$ doping. Only at larger doping, $0.18 …
We study the effect of disorder and doping on the metal-insulator transition in a repulsive Hubbard model on a square lattice using the determinant quantum Monte Carlo method. First, with the aim of making our results reliable, we compute the sign problem with various parameters such as temperature, disorder, on-site interactions, and lattice size. We show that in the presence of randomness in the hopping elements, the metal-insulator transition occurs and the critical disorder strength differs at different fillings. We also demonstrate that doping is a driving force behind the metal-insulator…
We study the effect of dynamical Holstein phonons on the physics of the Hubbard model at small doping using the dynamical cluster approximation on a $2\times2$ cluster. Non-local antiferromagnetic correlations are found to significantly enhance the electron-phonon coupling, resulting in polaron formation for moderate coupling strengths. At finite doping, the electron-phonon coupling is found to strongly enhance the non-local spin correlations, indicating a synergistic interplay between the electron-phonon coupling and antiferromagnetic correlations. Although it enhances the pairing interaction…
A powerful new impurity solver is shown to permit a systematic study of the doping driven Mott transition in a one-band Hubbard model within the framework of single-site dynamical mean field theory. At small dopings and large interaction strengths we are able access low enough temperatures that a reliable extrapolation to temperature T=0 may be performed, and ground state energies of insulating and metallic states may be compared. We find that the T=0 doping-driven transition is of second order and is characterized by an interaction-strength dependent electronic compressibility, which vanishes…
We revisit the unrestricted Hartree Fock study on the evolution of the ground state of the Hubbard model on the triangular lattice with hole doping. At half-filling, it is known that the ground state of the Hubbard model on triangular lattice develops a 120 degree coplanar order at half-filling in the strong interaction limit, i.e., in the spin 1/2 anti-ferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the triangular lattice. The ground state property in the doped case is still in controversy even though extensive studies were performed in the past. Within Hartree Fock theory, we find that the 120 degree orde…
A systematic diagrammatic expansion for Gutzwiller-wave functions (DE-GWF) is formulated and used for the description of superconducting (SC) ground state in the two-dimensional Hubbard model with electron-transfer amplitudes t (and t') between nearest (and next-nearest) neighbors. The method is numerically very efficient and allows for a detailed analysis of the phase diagram as a function of all relevant parameters (U, δ, t') and a determination of the kinetic-energy driven pairing region. SC states appear only for substantial interactions, U/t > 3, and for not too large hole doping, δ< 0.32…
We have studied the doping-driven orbital-selective Mott transition in multi-band Hubbard models with equal band width in the presence of crystal field splitting. Crystal field splitting lifts one of the bands while leaving the others degenerate. We use single-site dynamical mean-field theory combined with continuous time quantum Monte Carlo impurity solver to calculate a phase diagram as a function of total electron filling $N$ and crystal field splitting $Δ$. We find a large region of orbital-selective Mott phase in the phase diagram when the doping is large enough. Further analysis indicate…
The superconducting instabilities of the doped repulsive 2D Hubbard model are studied in the intermediate to strong coupling regime with help of the Dynamical Cluster Approximation (DCA). To solve the effective cluster problem we employ an extended Non Crossing Approximation (NCA), which allows for a transition to the broken symmetry state. At sufficiently low temperatures we find stable d-wave solutions with off-diagonal long range order. The maximal $T_c\approx 150K$ occurs for a doping $δ\approx 20%$ and the doping dependence of the transition temperatures agrees well with the generic high-…
We compute the two-particle quantities relevant for superconducting correlations in the two-dimensional Hubbard model within the dynamical cluster approximation. In the normal state we identify the parameter regime in density, interaction, and second-nearest-neighbor hopping strength that maximizes the $d_{x^2-y^2}$ superconducting transition temperature. We find in all cases that the optimal transition temperature occurs at intermediate coupling strength, and is suppressed at strong and weak interaction strengths. Similarly, superconducting fluctuations are strongest at intermediate doping an…
The Fermi surface (FS) of an extended $d-p$ Hubbard model is investigated by a two-pole approximation in both situations with hole and electron doping. Using the factorization procedure proposed by Beenen and Edwards, superconductivity with singlet $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave pairing is considered. The effects of the $d-p$ hybridization on the FS are the main focus in the present work. Nevertheless, the asymmetries between the hole- and electron-doped regimes and the effects of doping and Coulomb interaction on FS are also investigated. Particularly, it is shown that the crossover from hole-like to ele…
By combining fermion Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations with diagrammatic theory, we have calculated the dielectric screening and the screened potential, in a quasi 2D Hubbard model for cuprate superconductors with and without 1/r Coulomb potential. At half filling, we find that the Hubbard electrons contribute only a minor fraction, Delta(epsilon) ~0.9 of the observed in-plane dielectric constant of the cuprates, epsilon ~4.7. With increasing doping x, the 1/r interaction is rapidly suppressed by metallic screening. Surprisingly, near x ~5%, the low-frequency part of the screened potential…
The spectral weight of states induced in the Mott gap via hole doping in the two-dimensional Hubbard model is studied within cluster dynamical mean field theory combined with finite-temperature exact diagonalization. If the cutoff energy is chosen to lie just below the upper Hubbard band, the integrated weight per spin is shown to satisfy $W_+(δ)\geδ$ ($δ$ denotes the total number of holes), in agreement with model predictions by Eskes {\it et al.} [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 67}, 1035 (1991)]. However, if the cutoff energy is chosen to lie in the range of the pseudogap, $W_+(δ)$ remains much small…
The topology of the Fermi surface of an extended $d-p$ Hubbard model is investigated using the Green's function technique in a n-pole approximation. The effects of the $d-p$ hybridization on the Fermi surface are the main focus in the present work. Nevertheless, the effects of doping, Coulomb interaction and hopping to second-nearest-neighbors on the Fermi surface, are also studied. Particularly, it is shown that the crossover from hole-like to electron-like Fermi surface (Lifshitz transition) is deeply affected by the $d-p$ hybridization. Moreover, the pseudogap present in the low doping regi…
Effects of electron correlation on the Fermi surface is investigated for the two-dimensional Hubbard model by the quantum Monte Carlo method. At first, an infinitesimal doping from the half filling is focused on and the momentum dependent charge susceptibility $κ(k)=\frac {dn(k)}{dμ}$ is calculated at a finite temperature. At the temperature $T \sim \frac {t^2} U$, it shows peak structure at $(\pm π/2,\pm π/2)$ on the Fermi surface (line). It is consistent with the mean-field prediction of the d-wave pairing state or the staggerd flux state. This momentum dependent structure disappears at the …
We reinvestigate the bandwidth-control and doping-control Mott transitions (BCMT and DCMT) from a spin liquid Mott insulator to a Fermi liquid metal based on the slave-rotor representation of the Hubbard model,\cite{Florens} where the Mott transitions are described by softening of bosonic collective excitations. We find that the nature of the insulating phase away from half filling is different from that of half filling in the respect that a charge density wave coexists with a topological order (spin liquid) away from half filling because the condensation of vortices generically breaks transla…
We find Marginal Fermi Liquid (MFL) like behavior in the Hubbard model on a square lattice for a range of hole doping and on-site interaction parameter U. Thereby we use a self-consistent projection operator method. It enables us to compute the momentum and frequency dependence of the single-particle excitations with high resolution. The Fermi surface is found to be hole-like in the underdoped and electron-like in the overdoped regime. When a comparison is possible we find consistency with finite temperature quantum Monte Carlo results. We also find a discontinuous change with doping concentra…
To shed light on how electronic correlations vary across the phase diagram of the cuprate superconductors, we examine the doping evolution of spin and charge excitations in the single-band Hubbard model using determinant quantum Monte Carlo (DQMC). In the single-particle response, we observe that the effects of correlations weaken rapidly with doping, such that one may expect the random phase approximation (RPA) to provide an adequate description of the two-particle response. In contrast, when compared to RPA, we find that significant residual correlations in the two-particle excitations persi…
It has been argued that inhomogeneity generally can enhance superconductivity in the cuprate high-Tc materials. To check the validity of this claim, we study d-wave superconductivity on the checkerboard Hubbard model on a square lattice using the Cellular Dynamical Mean Field theory method with an exact diagonalization solver at zero temperature. The d-wave order parameter is computed for various inhomogeneity levels over the entire doping range of interest in both strong and weak coupling regimes. At a given doping, the size of the d-wave order parameter manifests itself directly in the heigh…
We study the influence of non magnetic impurities on the phase diagram of doped two-leg Hubbard Cu-O ladders. In the absence of impurities this system posseses d-wave superconducting states and orbital current states depending on the doping. A single, strong, scatterer modifies its environment locally and this effect is assessed using a renormalization group analysis. At high doping, disorder causes intraband instabilities and at low doping it promotes interband instabilities. In the former case, we extend the boundary conformal field theory method, developed in the context of single chains, t…
We study the electronic structure of the doped paramagnetic insulator by finite temperature Quantum Monte-Carlo simulations for the 2D Hubbard model. Throughout we use the moderately high temperature T=0.33t, where the spin correlation length has dropped to < 1.5 lattice spacings, and study the evolution of the band structure with hole doping. The effect of doping can be best described as a rigid shift of the chemical potential into the lower Hubbard band, accompanied by some transfer of spectral weight. For hole dopings <20% the Luttinger theorem is violated, and the Fermi surface volume, inf…
Recent experiments on cuprates show that as a function of doping, the normal-state specific heat sharply peaks at the doping $δ^*$, where the pseudogap ends at low temperature. This finding is taken as the thermodynamic signature of a quantum critical point, whose nature has not yet been identified. Here we present calculations for the two-dimensional Hubbard model in the doped Mott insulator regime, which indicate that the specific heat anomaly can arise from the finite temperature critical endpoint of a first-order transition between a pseudogap phase with dominant singlet correlations and a…
We study zero-temperature Hubbard chains with periodically modulated hopping at arbitrary filling n and magnetization m. We show that the magnetization curves have plateaux at certain values of m which depend on the periodicity p and the filling. At commensurate filling n a charge gap opens and then magnetization plateaux correspond to fully gapped situations. However, plateaux also arise in the magnetization curves at fixed n between the commensurate values and then the plateau-value of of m depends continuously on n and can thus also become irrational. In particular for the case of dimerized…
Using the Constrained Path Monte Carlo (CPMC) method, we simulated the two-dimensional, three-band Hubbard model to study pairing, charge, and spin correlations as a function of electron and hole doping and the Coulomb repulsion $V_{pd}$ between charges on neighboring Cu and O lattice sites. As a function of distance, both the $d_{x^2 - y^2}$-wave and extended s-wave pairing correlations decayed quickly. In the charge-transfer regime, increasing $V_{pd}$ decreased the long-range part of the correlation functions in both channels, while in the mixed-valent regime, it increased the long-range pa…
We study the competition of antiferromagnetism and d-wave superconductivity at zero-temperature in the two-dimensional Hubbard model using Cellular Dynamical Mean Field Theory. The interplay between the two phases depends strongly on the strength of the correlation. At strong coupling ($ U \ge 8t$) the two phases do not mix, and a first-order transition takes place as a function of doping between two pure phases. At weak-coupling ($U \le 8t$) the two order parameters coexist within the same solution in a range of doping and the system smoothly evolves from the antiferromagnet to the supercondu…
On the basis of Quantum Monte Carlo simulations of the two-dimensional Hubbard model which cover the doping range from the under- to the over-doped regime, we find that the single-particle spectral weight $A (\vec k,ω)$ qualitatively reproduces both the momentum ($d_{x^2-y^2}$--symmetry) and doping dependence of the pseudogap as found in photoemission experiments. The drastic doping dependence of the spin response $χ_{s} (\vec q,ω)$ which is sharp in both $\vec q (\approx(π,π))$ and $ω$ in the under-doped regime but broad and structureless otherwise, identifies remnants of the antiferromagneti…
Recent excperiments (ARPES, Raman) suggest the presence of two distinct energy gaps in high-Tc superconductors (HTSC), exhibiting different doping dependences. Results of a variational cluster approach to the superconducting state of the two-dimensional Hubbard model are presented which show that this model qualitatively describes this gap dichotomy: One gap (antinodal) increases with less doping, a behavior long considered as reflecting the general gap behavior of the HTSC. On the other hand, the near-nodal gap does even slightly decrease with underdoping. An explanation of this unexpected be…
We suggest that box shape trap enables to observe intrinsic properties of the repulsive Hubbard model in a fixed doping in contrast to the harmonic trap bringing about spatial variations of atom density profiles. In order to predict atomic density profile under the box trap, we apply the directly-extended density-matrix renormalization group method to 4-leg repulsive Hubbard model with the open boundary condition. Consequently, we find that stripe formation is universal in a low hole doping range and the stripe sensitively changes its structure with variations of $U/t$ and the doping rate. A r…
For doped two-dimensional Mott insulators in their normal state, the challenge is to understand the evolution from a conventional metal at high doping to a strongly correlated metal near the Mott insulator at zero doping. To this end, we solve the cellular dynamical mean-field equations for the two-dimensional Hubbard model using a plaquette as the reference quantum impurity model and continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo method as impurity solver. The normal-state phase diagram as a function of interaction strength $U$, temperature $T$, and filling $n$ shows that, upon increasing $n$ towards th…
While both the hole and electron doped cuprates can exhibit $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave superconductivity, the local distribution of the doped carriers is known to be significantly different with the doped holes going primarily on the O sites while the doped electrons go on the Cu sites. Here we report the results of density matrix renormalization calculations for a three-orbital model of a CuO$_2$ lattice. In addition to the asymmetric dependence of the intra-unit-cell occupation of the Cu and O for hole and electron doping, we find important differences in the longer range spin and charge correlation…
Non-interacting systems with bounded disorder have been shown to exhibit sharp density of states peaks at the band edge which coincide with an energy range of abruptly suppressed localization. Recent work has shown that these features also occur in the presence of on-site interactions in ensembles of two-site Anderson-Hubbard systems at half filling. Here we demonstrate that this effect in interacting systems persists away from half filling, and moreover that energy regions with suppressed localization continue to appear in ensembles of larger systems despite a loss of sharp features in the de…
We investigate the ground-state phase diagram of the two-dimensional Hubbard model based on the optimization variational Monte Carlo method. We use a wave function that is an off-diagonal type given as $ψ=\exp(-λK)P_Gψ_0$, where $ψ_0$ is a one-particle state, $P_G$ is the Gutzwiller operator, $K$ is the kinetic operator, and $λ$ is a variational parameter. The many-body effect plays an important role as an origin of spin correlation and superconductivity in correlated electron systems. We examine the competition between the antiferromagnetic state and superconducting state by varying the Coulo…
The physical properties of high-$T_c$ superconductors are affected by spatial inhomogeneities introduced by impurities. In addition, superconductivity and electronic nematicity seem intertwined in these materials. To address these questions, we apply inhomogeneous cluster dynamical mean field theory to the study of superconductivity in the Hubbard model, in the presence of a repeated impurity, at zero temperature. We find that the superconducting phase is shifted slightly away from half-filling due to the presence of the impurity. This can be explained by a competition with the Mott insulating…
