Many non-Abelian finite subgroups of SU (3) have been used to explain the flavor structure of the Standard Model. In order to systematize and classify successful models, a detailed knowledge of their mathematical structure is necessary. In this paper we shall therefore look closely at the series of finite non-Abelian groups known as Delta(6n^2), its smallest members being S3 (n = 1) and S4 (n = 2). For arbitrary n, we determine the conjugacy classes, the irreducible representations, the Kronecker products as well as the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients.

The Flavor Group Delta(3n^2)

The large neutrino mixing angles have generated interest in finite subgroups of SU(3), as clues towards understanding the flavor structure of the Standard Model. In this work, we study the mathematical structure of the simplest non-Abelian subgroup, Delta(3n^2). Using simple mathematical techniques, we derive its conjugacy classes, character table, build its irreducible representations, their Kronecker products, and its invariants.

Delta(54) flavor phenomenology and strings

Delta(54) can serve as a flavor symmetry in particle physics, but remains almost unexplored. We show that in a classification of semi-realistic Z3xZ3 heterotic string orbifolds, Delta(54) turns out to be the most natural flavor symmetry, providing additional motivation for its study. We revisit its phenomenological potential from a low-energy perspective and subject to the constraints of string models. Flavor Delta(54) in SU(5) SUSY Model

We design a supersymmetric SU (5) GUT model using Δ(54), a finite non-abelian subgroup of SU (3)f . Heavy right handed neutrinos are introduced which transform as three-dimensional repre-sentation of our chosen family group. The model successfully reproduces the mass hierarchical mass structures of the Standard Model, and the CKM mixing matrix. It then provides predictions for the light neutrino with a normal hierarchy and masses such that mν,1 \approx 5\times10-3 eV, mν, 2 \approx 1\times 10-2 eV, and mν,3 \approx 5 \times 10-2 eV. On flavor symmetries of phenomenologically viable string compactifications

Heterotic orbifolds can explain the origin of flavor symmetries and the flavor representations of matter fields in particle physics as a result of the geometric properties of the associated string states in the compact space. After a review of the method to obtain flavor symmetries in these models, we determine the most frequent non-Abelian flavor symmetries appearing in promising Abelian heterotic orbifolds. Stringy origin of non-Abelian discrete flavor symmetries

We study the origin of non-Abelian discrete flavor symmetries in superstring theory. We classify all possible non-Abelian discrete flavor symmetries which can appear in heterotic orbifold models. These symmetries include D_4 and Delta(54). We find that the symmetries of the couplings are always larger than the symmetries of the compact space. Lessons from eclectic flavor symmetries

A top-down approach to the flavor problem motivated from string theory leads to the concept of eclectic flavor groups that combine traditional and modular flavor symmetries. To make contact with models constructed in the bottom-up approach, we analyze a specific example based on the eclectic flavor group Omega(1) (a nontrivial combination of the traditional flavor group Delta(54) and the finite modular group T') in order to extract general lessons from the eclectic scheme. Charting the flavor landscape of MSSM-like Abelian heterotic orbifolds

Discovering a selection principle and the origin of flavor symmetries from an ultraviolet completion of particle physics is an interesting open task. String theory leads to a flavor scheme where modular symmetries play a crucial role. Unification of Flavor, CP, and Modular Symmetries

Flavor symmetry plays a crucial role in the standard model of particle physics but its origin is still unknown. We develop a new method (based on outer automorphisms of the Narain space group) to determine flavor symmetries within compactified string theory. A Note on Embedding Nonabelian Finite Flavor Groups in Continuous Groups

A nonabelian finite flavor group $G \subset SO(3)$ can have double covering $G^{'} \subset SU(2)$ such that $G \not\subset G^{'}$. This situation is not contradictory, but quite natural, and we give explicit examples such as $G=D_n, G^{'}=Q_{2n}$ and $G=T, G^{'}=T^{'}$. This observation can be crucial in particle theory model building.

Chiral stabilization of the renormalization group for flavor and color anisotropic current interactions

We propose an all-orders beta function for current-current interactions in 2d with flavor anisotropy. When the number of left-moving and right-moving flavors are unequal, the beta function has a non-trivial fixed point at finite values of the couplings. We also extend the computation to simple cases with both flavor and color anisotropy.

Global Form of Flavor Symmetry Groups in 4d N=2 Theories of Class S

We provide a systematic method to deduce the global form of flavor symmetry groups in 4d N=2 theories obtained by compactifying 6d N=(2,0) superconformal field theories (SCFTs) on a Riemann surface carrying regular punctures and possibly outer-automorphism twist lines. Bosonic color-flavor transformation for the special unitary group

We extend Zirnbauer's color-flavor transformation in the bosonic sector to the color group SU(N_c). Because the flavor group U(N_b, N_b) is non-compact, the algebraic method by which the original color-flavor transformation was derived leads to a useful result only for 2N_b \le N_c. Using the character expansion method, we obtain a different form of the transformation in the extended range N_b \le N_c. This result can also be used for the color group U(N_c). The integrals to which the transformation can be applied are of relevance for the recently proposed boson-induced lattice gauge theory.

Color-Flavor Transformation for the Special Unitary Group

We extend Zirnbauer's color-flavor transformation in the fermionic sector to the case of the special unitary group. The transformation allows a certain integral over SU(N_c) color matrices to be transformed into an integral over flavor matrices which parameterize the coset space U(2N_f)/U(N_f)xU(N_f). Integrals of the type considered appear, for example, in the partition function of lattice gauge theory.
