Systematic uncertainties in MonteCarlo simulations of the atmospheric muon flux in the 5-line ANTARES detector

The ANTARES detector was operated in a configuration with 5 lines for a period of 10 months from February until November 2007. The duty cycle was better than 80% during this period and almost 2*10**7 atmospheric muon triggers were collected. This large sample was used to test Monte Carlo simulation programs and to evaluate possible systematic effects due to uncertainties on environmental parameters and detector description. First results are presented and discussed.

Atmospheric muon background in the ANTARES detector

An evaluation of the background due to atmospheric muons in the ANTARES high energy neutrino telescope is presented. Two different codes for atmospheric shower simulation have been used. Results from comparisons between these codes at sea level and detector level are presented. The first results on the capability of ANTARES to reject this class of background are given.

Performance of the First ANTARES Detector Line

In this paper we report on the data recorded with the first Antares detector line. The line was deployed on the 14th of February 2006 and was connected to the readout two weeks later. Environmental data for one and a half years of running are shown. Measurements of atmospheric muons from data taken from selected runs during the first six months of operation are presented. Performance figures in terms of time residuals and angular resolution are given. Finally the angular distribution of atmospheric muons is presented and from this the depth profile of the muon intensity is derived.

The ANTARES Neutrino Telescope

The ANTARES underwater neutrino telescope, at a depth of 2475 m in the Mediterranean Sea, near Toulon, is taking data in its final configuration of 12 detection lines. Each line is equipped with 75 photomultipliers (PMT) housed in glass pressure spheres arranged in 25 triplets at depths between 100 and 450 m above the sea floor. Expected discovery potential and sensitivity of the ANTARES neutrino telescope to neutrino point-like sources

The ANTARES telescope is being built in the Mediterranean Sea. The detector consists of a 3D array of photomultipliers (PMTs) that detects the Cherenkov light induced by the muons produced in neutrino interactions. Other signatures can also be detected. The ANTARES Neutrino Telescope: first results

The ANTARES Collaboration is completing the deployment of a 12 lines underwater detector, 2500m deep in the Mediterranean Sea, dedicated to high energy neutrino astronomy. Starting with the first line in 2006, 10 lines were continuously recording data by the end of 2007, which allow us to reconstruct downward-going cosmic muons, and search for the first upward-going neutrino-induced muons. Calibration topics will be described and preliminary results presented.

Status of the ANTARES Project

The ANTARES collaboration is constructing a neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea at a depth of 2400 metres, about 40 kilometres off the French coast near Toulon. The ANTARES underwater neutrino telescope

ANTARES is the first undersea neutrino telescope. It is in its complete configuration since May 2008 at about 2.5 km below the sea surface close to Marseille. Transmission of light in deep sea water at the site of the Antares neutrino telescope

The ANTARES neutrino telescope is a large photomultiplier array designed to detect neutrino-induced upward-going muons by their Cherenkov radiation. Configuration studies for a cubic-kilometre deep-sea neutrino telescope - KM3NeT - with NESSY, a fast and flexible approach

Theoretical predictions for neutrino fluxes indicate that km$^{3}$ scale detectors are needed to detect certain astrophysical sources.
