In this paper, we present the results of a study made for the effect of nuclear medium in the charged current induced quasielastic lepton production(CCQE) and the incoherent and coherent one pion production (CC1$π^+$)processes from $^{12}C$ in the $ν_μ$ energy region of 0.4-3GeV. The theoretical results are compared with the recent experimental results for the ratio of charged current $ν_μ$ induced one pion production cross section to the quasielastic lepton production cross section reported by K2K collaboration. We also present the results for the angular and momentum distributions of leptons and pions produced in these processes.
A comprehensive treatement of the theoretical approach for describing nuclear effects in inclusive scattering of polarized electrons by polarized $^3$He is presented.
We have made a thorough investigation of the nuclear structure function W_2A in the region of 0.8 < x < 1.5 and Q^2 < 20 GeV^2, separating the quasielastic and inelastic plus deep inelastic contributions. The agreement with present experimental data is good giving support to the results for both channels. Predictions are made in yet unexplored regions of x and Q^2 to assert the weight of the quasielastic or inelastic channels. We find that at Q^2 < 4 GeV^2 the structure function is dominated by the quasielastic contributions for x < 1.5, while for values of Q^2 > 15 GeV^2 and the range of x st…
We assess the combined effect of ground-state correlations, meson-exchange and isobar currents upon the cross sections for quasielastic (e,e'p) reactions from nuclei. Four-momenta in the range 0.1 \leq Q^2 \leq 1 GeV^2 are addressed. We observe that for $Q^2$ values exceeding 0.2 GeV^2, quasielastic conditions and missing momenta below the Fermi momentum, the ground-state correlations and two-body currents do not dramatically alter the $(e,e'p)$ predictions as they are obtained in the impulse approximation. Moreover, deviations from the impulse approximation exhibit a rather modest Q^2 depende…
In this work we want to study quasielastic (p, n) exchange reactions using a semi-microscopic optical model derived in a previous work [1] based on a nuclear matter approach where the real and imaginary parts are given by the first and second order terms, respectively, of the mass operator obtained by a Brueckner-Hartree-Fock calculation using a G-matrix built up with an effective Gogny interaction. The study of these quasielastic reactions is performed within a Distorted Wave Born Approximation (DWBA) to evaluate the wave functions in the entrance and exit channels, which in turn are used to …
A relativistic finite nucleus calculation using a Dirac optical potential is used to investigate the importance of final state interactions [FSI] at large momentum transfers in inclusive quasielastic electronuclear reactions. The optical potential is derived from first-order multiple scattering theory and then is used to calculate the FSI in a nonspectral Green's function doorway approach. At intermediate momentum transfers excellent predictions of the quasielastic $^{56}$Fe$(e,e')$ experimental data for the longitudinal response function are obtained. In comparisons with recent measurements a…
In response to recent experimental studies we investigate Coulomb distortion effects on $(e,e')$ reactions from medium and heavy nuclei for the case of electrons and positrons. We extend our previously reported full DWBA treatment of Coulomb distortions to the case of positrons for the $^{208}Pb(e,e')$ reaction in the quasielastic region for a particular nuclear model. In addition, we use previously reported successful approaches to treating Coulomb corrections in an approximate way to calculate the Coulomb distortion effects for $(e,e')$ reactions for both electrons and positrons for the case…
We show that the strong dependence of the amplitude for $NN$ hard scattering on the collision energy can be used to magnify the effects of short range nucleon correlations in quasielastic $pd$ scattering. Under specific kinematical conditions the effect of initial and final state interactions can be accounted for by rescaling the cross section calculated within the plane wave impulse approximation. The feasibility to investigate the role of relativistic effects in the deuteron wave function is demonstrated by comparing the predictions of different formalisms. Binding effects due to short range…
The unpolarized response functions of the quasielastic $^{16}O(e,e^\prime p)^{15}N$ reaction are calculated for three different types of relativistic bound state wave functions. The wave functions are obtained from relativistic Hartree, relativistic Hartree-Fock and density dependent relativistic Hartree calculations that reproduce the experimental charge radius of $^{16}$O. The sensitivity of the unpolarized response functions to the single particle structure of the different models is investigated in the relativistic plane wave impulse approximation. Redistributions of the momentum dependenc…
It has long been expected that the pionic modes show some collective phenomena such as the pion condensation in the high density nuclear matter and its precursor phenomena in the ordinary nuclei. Here we show an evidence of the precursor observed in the isovector spin longitudinal cross sections ID_q of the quasielastic 12C, 40Ca (\vec{p}, \vec{n}) reactions at T_p = 346 and 494MeV with the momentum transfer q = 1.7fm-1. Another aim of this report is to evaluate the Landau-Migdal parameters g'_{NN}, g'_{NΔ} and g'_{ΔΔ} at the large momentum region from the above reactions. We obtained g'_{NN} …
Our model, based on Quantum Chromodynamics, emphasizes the role of triton clustering in nuclei. As there is good empirical support of triton clustering in nuclei, we may even treat this as a good phenomenological working hypothesis as well. Here we show how our model finds remarkable success in being able to provide a consistent and interconnected understanding of such diverse empirical realities as the missing electric-charge in quasielastic electron scattering, and simultaneously, also the puzzling data within the studies of exotic nuclei. This gives us confidence, that our model should be t…
A microscopic description of the quasielastic (p,n) charge-exchange reaction (here, charge-exchange scattering between analogue states) is presented and discussed. Emphasis is focused on the spin-isospin structure of the projectile-target coupling. The model is a coupled-channel extension of the full-folding optical model approach (OMP) developed for nucleon elastic scattering, where emphasis is placed on retaining the genuine off-shell behavior of realistic effective interactions in the nuclear medium. The resulting non-local optical potentials are applied to the calculation of (p,n) differen…
We have performed a many body calculation of the inclusive (e,e') cross section which runs over the three traditional regions at intermediate energies: the quasielastic peak, the dip region and the delta region. The longitudinal and transverse response functions in the quasielastic peak have also been evaluated. Traditional effects like polarization, meson exchange currents, final state interaction and delta renormalization in the nuclear medium have been included. Meson exchange currents are generated from a model of pion electroproduction on the nucleon which reproduces accurately the experi…
The two-step contribution to the spin-longitudinal and the spin-transverse cross sections of ^{12}C,^{40}Ca(p,n) reactions at 494 MeV and 346 MeV is calculated. We use a plane-wave approximation and evaluate the relative contributions from the one-step and the two-step processes. We found that the ratios of the two-step to the one-step processes are larger in the spin-transverse cross sections than in the spin-longitudinal ones. Combining these results with the distorted-wave impulse approximation (DWIA) results we obtained considerable two-step contributions to the spin-longitudinal and the s…
We present theoretical analysis of the first data on the high energy and momentum transfer (hard) quasielastic $C(p,2p)X$ reactions. The cross section of hard $A(p,2p)X$ reaction is calculated within the light-cone impulse approximation based on two-nucleon correlation model for the high-momentum component of the nuclear wave function. The nuclear effects due to modification of the bound nucleon structure, soft nucleon-nucleon reinteraction in the initial and final states of the reaction with and without color coherence have been considered. The calculations including these nuclear effects sho…
Neutron and proton densities in the nuclear periphery are investigated within (p,n) charge-exchange isobar transitions. For this purpose we have developed parameter-free optical potentials with a detailed treatment of the in-medium $t_τ$ part of the effective interaction. Non local coupled-channel Lane equations are solved to obtain the scattering observables. The use of conventional proton and neutron densities significantly underestimates Fermi (forward-angle) cross-sections in agreement with findings by various other groups. However, we have found model-independent densities which provide a…
We compute contributions to the parity-violating (PV) inelastic electron-deuteron scattering asymmetry arising from hadronic PV. While hadronic PV effects can be relatively important in PV threshold electro- disintegration, we find that they are highly suppressed at quasielastic kinematics. The interpretation of the PV quasielastic asymmetry is, thus, largely unaffected by hadronic PV.
A relativistic Green's function and a distorted-wave impulse-approximation approach to charged- and neutral-current neutrino-nucleus quasielastic scattering are developed. Results for the neutrino (antineutrino) reactions on $^{16}$O and $^{12}$C target nuclei are presented and discussed.
We perform a combined analysis of inclusive electron scattering data from $A=3$ nuclei in the deep-inelastic and quasielastic scattering regions, using Monte Carlo analysis methods and the nuclear weak binding approximation to establish the range over which the data can be described within the same theoretical framework. Comparison with quasielastic $^3$He cross sections from SLAC and Jefferson Lab suggests that most features of the $x \gtrsim 1$ data can be reasonably well described in the impulse approximation with finite-$Q^2$ nuclear smearing functions for momentum transfers $Q^2 \gtrsim 1…
Quasielastic K^+ - nucleus scattering data at q=290, 390 and 480 MeV/c are analyzed in a finite nucleus continuum random phase approximation framework, using a density-dependent particle-hole interaction. The reaction mechanism is consistently treated according to Glauber theory, keeping up to two-step inelastic processes. A good description of the data is achieved, also providing a useful constraint on the strength of the effective particle-hole interaction in the scalar-isoscalar channel at intermediate momentum transfers. We find no evidence for the increase in the effective number of nucle…
In this paper we address the adequacy of various approximate methods of including Coulomb distortion effects in (e,e') reactions by comparing to an exact treatment using Dirac-Coulomb distorted waves. In particular, we examine approximate methods and analyses of (e,e') reactions developed by Traini et al. using a high energy approximation of the distorted waves and phase shifts due to Lenz and Rosenfelder. This approximation has been used in the separation of longitudinal and transverse structure functions in a number of (e,e') experiments including the newly published 208Pb(e,e') data from Sa…
The so-called semi-relativistic expansion of the weak charged current in powers of the initial nucleon momentum is performed to describe charge-changing, quasielastic neutrino reactions $(ν_μ,μ^-)$ at intermediate energies. The quality of the expansion is tested by comparing with the relativistic Fermi gas model using several choices of kinematics of interest for ongoing neutrino oscillation experiments. The new current is then implemented in a continuum shell model together with relativistic kinematics to investigate the scaling properties of $(e,e')$ and $(ν_μ,μ^-)$ cross sections.
The phenomenon of superscaling for quasielastic lepton induced reactions at energies of a few GeV is investigated within the framework of the relativistic impulse approximation. A global analysis of quasielastic inclusive electron and charged-current neutrino scattering reactions on nuclei is presented. Scaling and superscaling properties are shown to emerge from both types of processes. The crucial role played by final state interactions is evaluated by using different approaches. The asymmetric shape presented by the experimental scaling function, with a long tail in the region of positive v…
We present a systematic study of the sensitivity of quasielastic neutrino-nucleus cross sections at intermediate energies to the strange quark sea of the nucleon. To this end, we investigate the impact of the weak strangeness form factors on the ratio of proton-to-neutron knockout, the ratio of neutral-to-charged current cross sections, on the Paschos-Wolfenstein relation, and on the longitudinal helicity asymmetry. The influence of axial as well as vector strangeness effects is discussed. For the latter, we introduce strangeness parameters from various hadron models and from a recent fit to d…
We address the problem of including Coulomb distortion effects in inclusive quasielastic (e,e') reactions using an improved version of the effective momentum approximation. Arguments are given that a simple modification of the effective momentum approximation, which is no longer applicable in its original form in the case of highly charged nuclei, leads to very good results. A comparison of the improved effective momentum method with exact calculations is given. A critical remark concerns recent experiments with inclusive quasielastic positron scattering.
A relativistic distorted-wave impulse-approximation model to quasielastic neutral-current neutrino-nucleus scattering is developed, using the relativistic mean field theory for the bound state and taking into account the final state interaction in the relativistic scattering state. Results for the neutrino (antineutrino) reaction on 12C target nucleus are presented in an energy range between 500 and 1000 MeV. The sensitivity to the strange quark content of the axial-vector form factor is discussed.
A microscopic analysis of the optical potentials (OPs) and cross sections of quasielastic scattering of $^{12,14}$Be on $^{12}$C at 56 MeV/nucleon and on protons at energy near 700 MeV is carried out. For lower energy scattering the real part of the OP is calculated by using of double-folding procedure accounting for the anti-symmetrization effects, while the imaginary part is obtained on the base of the high-energy approximation (HEA). The HEA is also applied to the calculations of both real and imaginary OPs when solving the relativistic equation for the high-energy proton-nucleus elastic sc…
It is well known that coincidence quasielastic $(\vec{e},e'N)$ reactions are not appropriate to analyze effects linked to parity violation due the presence of the fifth electromagnetic (EM) response $R^{TL'}$. Nevertheless, in this work we develop a fully relativistic approach to be applied to parity-violating (PV) quasielastic $(\vec{e},e'N)$ processes. This is of importance as a preliminary step in the subsequent study of inclusive quasielastic PV $(\vec{e},e')$ reactions. Moreover, our present analysis allows us to disentangle effects associated with the off-shell character of nucleons in n…
A relativistic single particle model is used to calculate the inclusive $(e,e')$ reaction from $A=$12, 40, 56, 197, and 208 nuclei in the quasielastic region. We have shown that this model provides a very good description of the available experimental cross sections when they are dominated by the quasielastic process. In this paper we use this model to investigate the dependence of $y$-scaling on electron kinematics, particularly the electron scattering angle, for a range of squared four momentum transfer $0.20-0.80$ (GeV/c)$^2$. In this kinematic domain, Coulomb distortion of the electron doe…
We present the results of our calculation which has been performed to study the nuclear effects in the quasielastic, inelastic and deep inelastic scattering of neutrinos(antineutrinos) from nuclear targets. These calculations are done in the local density approximation. We take into account the effect of Pauli blocking, Fermi motion, Coulomb effect, renormalization of weak transition strengths in the nuclear medium in the case of the quasielastic reaction. The inelastic reaction leading to production of pions is calculated in a $Δ$- dominance model taking into account the renormalization of $Δ…
The experimental data from quasielastic electron scattering from $^{12}$C are reanalyzed in terms of a new scaling variable suggested by the interacting relativistic Fermi gas with scalar and vector interactions, which is known to generate a relativistic effective mass for the interacting nucleons. By choosing a mean value of this relativistic effective mass $m_N^* =0.8 m_N$, we observe that most of the data fall inside a region around the inverse parabola-shaped universal scaling function of the relativistic Fermi gas. This suggests a method to select the subset of data that highlight the qua…
A relativistic Green's function approach to inclusive quasielastic charged-current neutrino-nucleus scattering is developed. The components of the hadron tensor are written in terms of the single-particle Green's function, which is expanded on the eigenfunctions of the nuclear optical potential, so that final state interactions are accounted for by means of a complex optical potential but without a loss of flux. Results for the (neutrino_mu, mu-) reaction on 16O and 12C target nuclei are presented and discussed. A reasonable agreement of the flux-averaged cross section on 12C with experimental…
Color transparency predicts that, in $(e,e'p)$ reactions at large $Q^2$, the final-state interaction becomes weaker than the reference value predicted from the free-nucleon cross section. This reference value is usually evaluated in the dilute-gas approximation to Glauber's multiple-scattering theory. We derive the leading-order correction taking into account two-body correlations. Large cancellations are found so that the overall correlation effect is small.
Superscaling of the quasielastic cross section in charged current neutrino-nucleus reactions at energies of a few GeV is investigated within the framework of the relativistic impulse approximation. Several approaches are used to describe final state interactions and comparisons are made with the plane wave approximation. Superscaling is very successful in all cases. The scaling function obtained using a relativistic mean field for the final states shows an asymmetric shape with a long tail extending towards positive values of the scaling variable, in excellent agreement with the behavior prese…
The role of isospin in quasielastic electron scattering and charge-changing neutrino reactions is investigated in the relativistic impulse approximation. We analyze proton and neutron scaling functions making use of various theoretical descriptions for the final-state interactions, focusing on the effects introduced by the presence of strong scalar and vector terms in the relativistic mean field approach. An explanation for the differences observed in the scaling functions evaluated from $(e,e')$ and $(ν,μ)$ reactions is provided by invoking the differences in isoscalar and isovector contribut…
A study of charged current induced anti-neutrino interactions from nuclei has been done for the intermediate energy ($<2$GeV) anti-neutrinos and applied to $^{12}$C, relevant for ongoing experiment by MiniBooNE collaboration. The calculations have been done for the quasielastic and inelastic lepton production as well as for the incoherent and the coherent pion production processes. The calculations are done in local density approximation. In the case of the quasielastic reaction the effects of Pauli blocking, Fermi motion effects, renormalization of weak transition strengths in nuclear medium …
We study parity violation in quasielastic (QE) electron-nucleus scattering using the relativistic impulse approximation. Different fully relativistic approaches have been considered to estimate the effects associated with the final-state interactions. We have computed the parity-violating quasielastic (PVQE) asymmetry and have analyzed its sensitivity to the different ingredients that enter in the description of the reaction mechanism: final-state interactions, nucleon off-shellness effects, current gauge ambiguities. Particular attention has been paid to the description of the weak neutral cu…
The impact of relativistic pionic correlations and meson-exchange currents on the response functions for electromagnetic quasielastic electron scattering from nuclei is studied in detail. Results in first-order perturbation theory are obtained for one-particle emission electronuclear reactions within the context of the relativistic Fermi gas model. Improving upon previous analyses where non-relativistic reductions of the currents were performed, here a fully relativistic analysis in which both forces and currents are treated consistently is presented. Lorentz covariance is shown to play a cruc…
We present an analysis of elastic and quasielastic parity-violating (PV) electron scattering processes. These reactions can help to constrain the weak neutral current form factors of the nucleon that play an essential role in the description of neutrino cross sections at intermediate energies. We show that combining information from the analysis of elastic and quasielastic reactions the current knowledge on the strange and axial-vector form factors can be significantly improved.
The effects of meson-exchange currents (MEC) are computed for the one-particle one-hole transverse response function for finite nuclei at high momentum transfers $q$ in the region of the quasielastic peak. A semi-relativistic shell model is used for the one-particle-emission $(e,e')$ reaction. Relativistic effects are included using relativistic kinematics, performing a semi-relativistic expansion of the current operators and using the Dirac-equation-based (DEB) form of the relativistic mean field potential for the final states. It is found that final-state interactions (FSI) produce an import…
The charged current lepton production induced by neutrinos in $^{56}Fe$ nuclei has been studied. The calculations have been done for the quasielastic as well as the inelastic reactions assuming $Δ$ dominance and take into account the effect of Pauli blocking, Fermi motion and the renormalization of weak transition strengths in the nuclear medium. The quasielastic production cross section for lepton production are found to be strongly reduced due to nuclear effects while there is about 10% reduction in the inelastic cross sections in the absence of the final state interactions of the pions. The…
The superscaling approach is applied to studies of neutral current neutrino reactions in the quasielastic regime. Using input from scaling analyses of electron scattering data, predictions for high-energy neutrino and antineutrino cross sections are given and compared with results obtained using the relativistic Fermi gas model. The influence of strangeness content inside the nucleons in the nucleus is also explored.
We perform a systematic study on the surface property of nucleus-nucleus potential in heavy-ion reactions using large-angle quasielastic scattering at energies well below the Coulomb barrier. At these energies, the quasielastic scattering can be well described by a single-channel potential model. Exploiting this fact, we point out that systems which involve spherical nuclei require the diffuseness parameter of around 0.60 fm in order to fit the experimental data, while systems with a deformed target between 0.8 fm and 1.1 fm.
In this work, we have studied (anti)neutrino induced charged current quasielastic scattering from some nuclear targets in the energy region of $E_ν< 1~GeV$. Our aim is to confront electron and muon production cross sections relevant for $ν_μ\leftrightarrow ν_e$ or $\barν_μ\leftrightarrow \barν_e$ oscillation experiments. The effects due to lepton mass and its kinematic implications, radiative corrections, second class currents and uncertainties in the axial and pseudoscalar form factors are calculated for (anti)neutrino induced reaction cross sections on free nucleon as well as the nucleons bo…
We present the results of (anti)neutrino induced CCQE cross sections from some nuclear targets in the energy region of $E_ν\le 1 GeV$. The aim of the study is to confront electron and muon production cross sections relevant for $ν_μ\leftrightarrow ν_e$ or $\barν_μ\leftrightarrow \barν_e$ oscillation experiments. The effects due to lepton mass and its kinematic implications, second class currents and uncertainties in the axial and pseudoscalar form factors are discussed for (anti)neutrino induced reaction cross sections on free nucleon as well as the nucleons bound in a nucleus where nuclear me…
In this review, we have studied the quasielastic production cross sections and polarization components of $Λ$, $Σ^0$ and $Σ^-$ hyperons induced by the weak charged currents in the antineutrino reactions on the nucleon and the nuclear targets like $^{12}$C, $^{16}$O, $^{40}$Ar and $^{208}$Pb. It is shown that the energy and the $Q^2$ dependence of the cross sections and the various polarization components can be effectively used to determine the axial vector transition form factors in the strangeness sector and test the validity of various symmetry properties of the weak hadronic currents like …
We evaluate quasielastic double-differential antineutrino cross sections obtained in a phenomenological model based on the superscaling behavior of electron scattering data and estimate the contribution of the vector meson-exchange currents in the 2p-2h sector. We show that the impact of meson-exchange currents for charge-changing antineutrino reactions is much larger than in the neutrino case.
We study the sensitivity of neutral-current neutrino-nucleus scattering to the strange-quark content of the axial-vector form factor of the nucleon. A model-independent formalism for this reaction is developed in terms of eight nuclear structure functions. Taking advantage of the insensitivity of the ratio of proton $(ν,ν' p)$ to neutron $(ν,ν' n)$ yields to distortion effects, we compute all structure functions in a relativistic plane wave impulse approximation approach. Further, by employing the notion of a bound-state nucleon propagator, closed-form, analytic expressions for all nuclear-str…
We use a correlated local Fermi gas (LFG) model, which accounts also for long distance corrections of the RPA type and final-state interactions, to compute the polarization of the final lepton in charged-current quasielastic neutrino scattering. The present model has been successfully used in recent studies of inclusive neutrino nucleus processes and muon capture. We investigate the relevance of nuclear effects in the particular case of $τ$ polarization in tau-neutrino induced reactions for several kinematics of relevance for neutrino oscillation experiments.
We estimate the theoretical uncertainties of the model developed in Phys. Rev. C70 055503 for inclusive quasielastic charged-current neutrino-nucleus reactions at intermediate energies. Besides we quantify the deviations of the predictions of this many body framework from those obtained within a simple Fermi gas model. An special attention has been paid to the ratio σ(μ)/σ(e) of interest for experiments on atmospheric neutrinos. We show that uncertainties affecting this ratio are likely smaller than 5%
We present a model for electron- and neutrino-scattering off nucleons and nuclei focussing on the quasielastic and resonance region. The lepton-nucleon reaction is described within a relativistic formalism that includes, besides quasielastic scattering, the excitation of 13 N* and Delta resonances and a non-resonant single-pion background. Recent electron-scattering data is used for the state-of-the-art parametrizations of the vector form factors; the axial couplings are determined via PCAC and, in the case of the Delta resonance, the axial form factor is refitted using neutrino-scattering dat…
The longitudinal and transverse structure functions are calculated for inclusive electron scattering from ${}^{12}$C and ${}^{40}$Ca in the quasielastic and dip region. The microscopic model presented here incorporates two-body currents derived from one-pion exchange and intermediate $Δ$ excitation. The reaction mechanism involves both one-nucleon and two-nucleon knockout processes. It is demonstrated that, even for quasielastic kinematics, two-body currents give a substantial contribution to the transverse structure function. Furthermore, the observed excess of transverse strength in the dip …
A cascade model has been developed to study pion induced multichannel reactions (quasielastic, SCX, DCX, absorption and pion production) at pion energies above 0.5 GeV. Special attention has been paid to pion double charge exchange. Pion production is a determinant feature in the high energy pion nucleus reactions, and the DCX signal not related to pion production is sizeable only at forward angles and for high energy outgoing pions. The contribution to DCX of the conventional mechanism, with two quasielastic SCX steps decreases very fast as a function of the energy and reaches very low values…
High precision studies of Beyond-Standard-Model physics through accelerator-based neutrino oscillation experiments require a very accurate description of neutrino-nucleus cross sections in a broad energy region, going from quasielastic scattering up to deep inelastic scattering. In this work we focus on the following processes: quasielastic scattering, two-particle-two-hole excitations, and the excitation of the first (Delta) and second (Roper) resonances of the nucleon. The nuclear model is fully relativistic and includes both one- and two-body currents. We compare our results with recent T2K…
MiniBooNE and K2K collaborations have recently reported the ratio for the $ν_μ$ induced charge current 1$π^+$ production cross section to the charged current induced quasielastic lepton production cross section i.e. $R(E)=\frac{σ^{CC1π^+}}{σ^{CCQE}}$. In this paper we study, theoretically, in a local density approximation the effect of nuclear medium in charged current quasielastic(CCQE) and charged current one pion production(CC1$π^+$) processes for the $ν_μ$ induced reaction in nuclei. The theoretical results have been compared with the results of experimental observations by the MiniBooNE a…
Recent high precision experimental data for heavy-ion fusion reactions at subbarrier energies systematically show that a surprisingly large surface diffuseness parameter for a Woods-Saxon potential is required in order to fit the data. We point out that experimental data for quasi-elastic scattering at backward angles also favor a similar large value of surface diffuseness parameter. Consequently, a double folding approach fails to reproduce the experimental excitation function of quasielastic scattering for the $^{16}$O + $^{154}$Sm system at energies around the Coulomb barrier. We also show …
Nuclear effects in the quasielastic and inelastic scattering of neutrinos(antineutrinos) from nuclear targets have been studied. The calculations are done in the local density approximation which take into account the effect of nucleon motion as well as renormalisation of weak transition strengths in the nuclear medium. The inelastic reaction leading to production of pions is calculated in a $Δ$ dominance model taking into account the renormalization of $Δ$ properties in the nuclear medium.
Two relativistic approaches are considered to evaluate the quasielastic double-differential and integrated neutrino-nucleus cross sections. One, based on the relativistic impulse approximation, relies on the microscopic description of nuclear dynamics using relativistic mean field theory, and incorporates a description of the final-state interactions. The second is based on the superscaling behavior exhibited by electron scattering data and its applicability, due to the universal character of the scaling function, to the analysis of neutrino scattering reactions. The role played by the vector …
