We present a summary of the most recent measurements relevant to Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) delivered by the D0 and CDF Tevatron experiments by May 2008. CDF and D0 are moving toward precision measurements of QCD based on data samples in excess of 1 fb-1. The inclusive jet cross sections have been extended to forward rapidity regions and measured with unprecedented precision following improvements in the jet energy calibration. Results on dijet mass distributions, bbbar dijet production using tracker based triggers, underlying event in dijet and Drell-Yan samples, inclusive photon and diphoton cross sections complete the list of measurements included in this paper. Good agreement with pQCD within errors is observed for jet production measurements. An improved and consistent theoretical description is needed for photon+jets processes. Collisions at the LHC are scheduled for early fall 2008, opening an era of discoveries at the new energy frontier, 5-7 times higher than that of the Tevatron.
We summarize the status of SM Higgs boson searches at the Fermilab Tevatron performed by the CDF and DØcollaborations, with an emphasis on measurements at large Higgs mass, and derive sensitivity prospects for the upcoming increase in integrated luminosity.
We review hard diffractive results and prospects at the Tevatron with an emphasis on factorization breaking in diffractive processes. Upper limits on the exclusive di-jet and chi_c^0 production cross sections at CDF and the status of the D0 Forward Proton Detectors are discussed.
Measurements of the top quark mass and the t-tbar and single top production cross sections, obtained by CDF and D0 Collaboration at the Tevatron, are presented. The methodology of the CDF and D0 analyses and their underlying assumptions are summarized. In anticipation of the increased amount of data in Run-II, prospects are presented. The fact that top quark analyses are among the best windows to new physics beyond the Standard Model is emphasized.
We report on results obtained at the Tevatron by the CDF and D0 collaborations up to June 2008 (2.4 fb-1), on searches for standard model (SM) Higgs bosons having a high mass (135-200 GeV). High mass Higgs bosons decay dominantly in WW and the presented searches are performed in the leptonic decay modes of the W's. Both direct production (ppbar -> H) and associated production (ppbar -> WH) are studied and eventually combined with all channels available at the Tevatron. Prospects for SM Higgs searches with the full projected Tevatron statistics are also given.
The Forward Detector upgrade project at CDF is designed to enhance the capabilities for studies of diffractive physics at the Tevatron during Run II. Studies of hard diffraction and very forward physics are some of the topics that can be addressed in the next few years at the Tevatron. The program for diffractive physics, including the detectors and their commissioning, is discussed here. All the detectors have been installed and are presently collecting data.
Results from the Fermilab Tevatron pbar-p collider on diffractive and total cross sections are reviewed with emphasis on physics significance and properties pointing to expectations at the LHC.
The measurement of CP-violating asymmetries and branching ratios of $B \to DK$ modes allows a theoretically-clean extraction of the CKM angle $γ$. We report recent CDF measurements with Cabibbo suppressed ($ππ$, $KK$) or doubly Cabibbo suppressed ($K^+ π^-$) $D$ decays. These measurements are performed for the first time in hadron collisions.
Both experiments CDF and D0 at the Tevatron collider have now the first samples of B_s particles where preliminary measurements are performed. The mass and lifetime measurements are presented and the yield for the hadronic B_s decays, the first step toward the B_s production fraction and branching ratio measurements, is discussed. This also sets the bases for a re-evaluation of mixing capabilities in Run II.
I review here the latest measurements related to vector boson production in association with light or heavy flavor jets at the Tevatron and at the LHC. The methods to estimate the W+jets and Z+jets background in top-quark analyses are also presented.
The Fermilab Tevatron Collider is currently the most copious source of b-hadrons, thanks to the large b-bbar production cross-section in 1.96 TeV ppbar collisions. Recent detector upgrades allow for a wide range of CP violation and flavor-mixing measurements that are fully competitive (asymmetries in self-tagging modes) or complementary (asymmetries of B_s and b-baryons decays) with B-factories. In this paper we review some recent CP violation results from the DO and CDF Collaborations and we discuss the prospects for future measurements.
Recent measurements of the inclusive top pair production at the Tevatron and LHC collider in the electron/muon final states are discussed. Measurements at the Tevatron use up to 9.7 /fb of data, and at the LHC up to 4.9 /fb of data at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and up to 20.3 /fb of data at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV. For the experiments at both colliders these corresponds to the full data sets at the given center-of-mass energies. Overall results are in agreement between the experiments at the Tevatron and between the experiments at the LHC. All measurements are in agreement with recent theory calculations at NN…
Most recent results of $W$ boson mass measurements from Tevatron experiments (CDF and D0) in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ GeV are reported, using $0.2 fb^{-1}$ and $1.0 fb^{-1}$ data collected at CDF and D0, respectively. The measurements of $W$ boson properties at LHC experiments (ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb) in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV, using data collected before Summer 2011, are presented. These measurements are essential at the preparation stage of the $W$ boson mass measurements at LHC. Challenges for $W$ mass measurement at the LHC in comparison with the Tevatron are out…
Experimental results from the CDF and D0 Collaborations at the Tevatron and the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations at the LHC on the processes related to probing top quark couplings are presented. Evidence of both $t\bar{t}Z$ and $t\bar{t}W$ processes is reported. All measurements are in agreement with the SM expectations.
A review of measurements of the total cross section in ppbar collisions at the TEVATRON and an outlook on the expected performance for similar determinations at the LHC is given. The experimental method is based on the optical theorem to determine the total cross section independent of the machine luminosity. It consists of the extrapolation of the t-spectrum for elastic scattering to t-->0 with a simultaneous measurement of the total inelastic rate.
This document is a brief review of some of the most relevant searches for Supersymmetry carried out at the Tevatron and the LHC collider experiments, until the end of August 2011. Different final states covering R-parity conserving and violating scenarios have been scrutinized and no significant deviation from the Standard Model has been observed. As a result, new limits on the Supersymmetry parameter space have been established.
I present here the results for the combination of the top-quark mass (mt) measurements at the Tevatron and at the LHC. These combinations are based on measurements using up to 5.8 fb-1 from CDF and D0 yielding mt=173.18 +- 0.56(stat) +- 0.75(syst) GeV, and up to 4.7 fb-1 from ATLAS and CMS leading to mt=173.3 +-0.5(stat) +-1.3(syst) GeV.
This is a report at the conference Physics in Collision 2013. The experimental results on physics of diboson production are reviewed. The measurements use $pp$ collision at the LHC with center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 and 8 ~TeV, and $p\bar{p}$ collision at the Tevatron with $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.96~TeV. These include measurements of W$γ$, Z$γ$, WW, WZ and ZZ production. The results are compared with Standard Model predictions, and are interpreted in terms of constraints on charged and neutral anomalous triple gauge couplings.
In the last decades electroweak processes were studied at hadron and lepton colliders. By exploiting the large statistics and the c.o.m. energy available, hadron colliders played a significant role in performing precision measurements of standard model parameters and in observing rare processes. Besides, in the last decade of the XX century, the last fermion predicted -the top quark- was discovered at the Tevatron collider. We are now at the start of a new hadron collider, the LHC, and in this paper, I will review recent results from the Tevatron and compare perspectives for experiment taking …
I am summarizing here the determination of the top-quark mass from the CDF and D0 Collaborations at the Tevatron and the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations at the LHC using non-conventional methods. I am concentrating on the extraction of the top-quark mass from the top-antitop cross-section, on the mass measurement using the so-called endpoint method and on the top-quark mass determination from the b-lifetime. Other alternative methods are described in another article
The Tevatron proton-antiproton collider at Fermilab continues operation as the world's highest energy particle accelerator by delivering luminosity at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. We review recent performance and plans for the remainder of Run 2.
Successful operation of the Large Hadron Collider has led to more than 1 fb^-1 of data recorded with both ATLAS and CMS detectors by summer of 2011. This large amount of data has allowed to perform numerous searches for rare processes beyond the Standard Model, many of which are competitive with previous searches performed with the CDF and D0 detectors at the Tevatron. In this talk the most recent searches at the hadron colliders are reviewed.
This is a brief and limited review of searches for physics beyond the Standard Model from the ATLAS, CDF, CMS and D0 experiments, as of the end of July 2011. Priority is given to the most recent results and to those with the largest integrated luminosity analyzed.
The number of photon+jet and Z+jet events suitable for a determination of gluon distribution function in a proton at Tevatron Run II and during the low luminosity runs at future LHC experiments are estimated for various intervals of x and Q^2. These numbers allow to extract gluon distribution in new kinematic regions of 2 * 10^{-3} < x < 1.0 with 1.6*10^3 < Q^2 < 2*10^4 \~(GeV/c)^2 at Tevatron and of 2* 10^{-4} < x < 1.0$ with 1.6*10^3 < Q^2 < 2*10^5 ~(GeV/c)^2 at LHC. The contributions of background events in different Q^2 intervals are also given.
We make a Monte Carlo study on compositeness of first generation quarks and leptons using the Drell-Yan distribution in the high dielectron mass region at the Tevatron and LHC energies. The current experimental lower limits on the compositeness scale, Λ, vary from 2.5 to 6.1 TeV. In the present analysis, we assume that there will be no deviation of the dielectron mass spectrum from Standard Model prediction at center of mass energy 2 TeV (Tevatron) and 14 TeV (LHC). We then find that in the LL, RR, RL and LR chirality channels of the quark-electron currents, it is possible to extend the lower …
We present a combination of measurements of the mass of the top quark, $m_{\rm top}$, performed by the CDF and D0 experiments at the Tevatron collider and the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The Tevatron data correspond to an integrated luminosity of up to 8.7 fb${^{-1}}$ of proton-antiproton collisions from Run II of the Tevatron at a centre-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The LHC data correspond to an integrated luminosity of up to 4.9 fb${^{-1}}$ of proton-proton collisions from the run at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The combination includes measurements in t…
This is an auspicious moment in experimental particle physics -there are large data samples at the Tevatron and a new energy regime being explored at the Large Hadron Collider with ever larger data samples. The coincidence of these two events suggests that we will soon be able to address the question, what lies beyond the standard model? Particle physics's current understanding of the universe is embodied in it. The model has been tested to extreme precision - better than a part in ten thousand - but we suspect that it is only an approximation, and that physics beyond this standard model will …
This paper summarizes top quark cross-section measurements at the Tevatron and the LHC. Top quark pair production cross-sections have been measured in all decay modes by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the LHC and by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron. Single top quark production has been observed at both the Tevatron and the LHC. The t-channel and associated Wt production modes have been observed at the LHC and evidence for s-channel production has been reported by the Tevatron collaborations.
This paper provides a review of the experimental studies of processes with a single top quark at the Tevatron proton-antiproton collider and the LHC proton-proton collider. Single top-quark production in the t-channel process has been measured at both colliders. The s-channel process has been observed at the Tevatron, and its rate has been also measured at the center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV at the LHC in spite of the comparatively harsher background contamination. LHC data also brought the observation of the associated production of a single top quark with a W boson as well as with a Z boson. …
At the Tevatron, the total p_bar-p cross-section has been measured by CDF at 546 GeV and 1.8 TeV, and by E710/E811 at 1.8 TeV. The two results at 1.8 TeV disagree by 2.6 standard deviations, introducing big uncertainties into extrapolations to higher energies. At the LHC, the TOTEM collaboration is preparing to resolve the ambiguity by measuring the total p-p cross-section with a precision of about 1 %. Like at the Tevatron experiments, the luminosity-independent method based on the Optical Theorem will be used. The Tevatron experiments have also performed a vast range of studies about soft an…
The heaviest known elementary particle today, the top quark, has been discovered in 1995 by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron proton antiproton collider at Fermilab. Recently, the CDF and D0 collaborations have studied the forward-backward asymmetry in ttbar events, resulting in measured values larger than the standard model prediction. With the start of the LHC at CERN in 2010, a new top quark factory has opened and asymmetry measurements in ttbar have also been performed in a proton proton environment with higher collision energy. No deviations from the standard model have been n…
We analyze the Tevatron reach for neutral Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), using current exclusion limits on the Standard Model Higgs. We study four common benchmark scenarios for the soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters of the MSSM, including cases where the Higgs decays differ significantly from the Standard Model, and provide projections for the improvements in luminosity and efficiency required for the Tevatron to probe sizeable regions of the $(m_A, \tanβ)$ plane.
In this review, we first discuss the perspectives concerning a better determination of the proton structure in terms of quarks and gluons at LHC after describing the results coming from HERA and Tevatron. In a second part of the review, we describe the diffractive phenomena at HERA and Tevatron and the consequences for LHC.
The mass of the top quark is a fundamental parameter of the standard model and has to be determined experimentally. In these proceedings, I review recent measurements of the top quark mass in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt s=7,~8,$ and 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS and CMS detectors at the LHC, and in $p\bar p$ collisions at $\sqrt s=1.96$ TeV recorded by the CDF and D0 experiments at the Tevatron. The measurements are performed in final states containing two, one, and no charged leptons. A relative precision of down to 0.3% is attained. In addition, recent measurements aiming to determine the top q…
An overview of recent measurements of differential top quark pair ($t\bar{t}$) production cross sections is presented, including results in boosted topologies and results both at parton and particle level. The first measurements of differential single top quark t-channel production cross sections in proton-proton collisions are as well presented. The results are obtained using data collected with the ATLAS and CMS experiments in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV. References to the latest results by the Tevatron experiments are also given. The data are compa…
Measurements of the top-quark mass employing alternative techniques are presented, performed by the D0 and CDF collaborations at the Tevatron as well as the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC. The alternative methods presented include measurements using the lifetime of $B$-hadrons, the transverse momentum of charged leptons and the endpoints of kinematic distributions in top quark anti-quark pair ($t\bar{t}$) final states. The extraction of the top-quark pole mass from the $t\bar{t}$ production cross-section and the normalized differential $t\bar{t}$ + 1-jet cross-section are discussed as we…
We present the most recent measurements of single top quark production cross section by the CDF and D0 experiments at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider and the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The data were collected at the Tevatron corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 9.7 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-antiproton ($p\bar p$) collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV and at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 4.9 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton ($pp$) collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV in 2011 and up to 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ at a cent…
I review the prospects for measuring the properties of the top quark at the Tevatron, with an integrated luminosity of 2 fb$^{-1}$ or more, and at LHC in the early running at instantaneous luminosities of $10^{32}-10^{33}~cm^{-2}~s^{-1}$.
A review of the current experimental results on searches for Higgs bosons in models beyond the Standard Model is presented. Searches from ATLAS, CMS and LHCb use datasets from Run 1 of the LHC, including 7 and 8 TeV proton-proton collisions. Searches from CDF and D0 use the full or partial 1.96 TeV proton-anti-proton collision datasets from the Tevatron.
We study the discovery reach of the Tevatron and the LHC for detecting a Higgs boson (h), predicted in composite models of the electroweak symmetry breaking or in supersymmetric theories, with an enhanced b-quark Yukawa coupling via p \bar{p} / p p \to b \bbar h (\to b \bbar) + X. Our analysis shows that studying this process at the Tevatron Run II or the LHC can provide strong constraints on these models.
Almost two decades after its discovery at Fermilab's Tevatron collider experiments, the top quark is still under the spotlight due to its connections to some of the most interesting puzzles in the Standard Model. The Tevatron has been shut down two years ago, yet some interesting results are coming out of the CDF and D0 collaborations. The LHC collider at CERN produced two orders of magnitude more top quarks than Tevatron's, thus giving birth to a new era for top quark physics. While the LHC is also down at the time of this writing, many top quark physics results are being extracted out of the…
We analyze the Tevatron and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) reach for the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) in the presence of explicit CP-violation. Using the most recent studies from the Tevatron and LHC collaborations, we examine the CPX benchmark scenario for a range of CP-violating phases in the soft trilinear and gluino mass terms and compute the exclusion/discovery potentials for each collider on the $(M_{H^+}, \tanβ)$ plane. Projected results from Standard Model (SM)-like, non-standard, and charged Higgs searches are combined to maximize the statistical signi…
I present the latest calculations of total and differential cross sections for top-antitop pair production and single top quark production via all main partonic channels. Higher-order corrections from the resummation of soft gluons are added through NNLL accuracy. Detailed numerical results are presented for approximate NNLO cross sections and top quark transverse momentum distributions at the Tevatron and LHC colliders.
Higgs bosons can be searched for in the channels $p\bar p/pp\to t\bar tH+X$ at the Tevatron and the LHC. We have calculated the QCD corrections to these processes in the Standard Model at next-to-leading order. The higher-order corrections reduce the renormalization and factorization scale dependence considerably and stabilize the theoretical predictions for the cross sections. At the central scale $μ=(2m_t+M_H)/2$ the properly defined $K$ factors are slightly below unity for the Tevatron ($K \sim 0.8$) and slightly above unity for the LHC ($K \sim 1.2$).
In these proceedings we summarise the recent studies of exotic hadrons performed at the LHC and Tevatron. The X(3872) production cross section and mass measurements are reported, along with the determination of its quantum numbers, the searches for decays to $\mathrm{p\bar{p}}$, and for partner states in the bottomonium sector. Furthermore, we discuss the Y(4140) and Y(4274) structures, observed by several experiments in the $J/ψϕ$ invariant mass spectrum.
The measurement of a charge asymmetry in t tbar production at LHC constitutes more than an independent confirmation of the forward-backward asymmetry found at Tevatron. Indeed, both measurements together can be used to identify the source of the asymmetry. This is demonstrated for the case of new Z', W' vector bosons and colour-sextet and triplet scalars, exchanged in t, u channels respectively, and a very heavy axigluon in the s channel.
The uncertainties in estimating the hadronic production of the $B_c$ meson are studied under the framework of the complete $α_s^4$ approach of the perturbative QCD and the gluon-gluon fusion mechanism. Quantitative comparisons on the production at TEVATRON and LHC are made. Considering the detectors at TEVATRON and LHC, we have also estimated the production with proper kinematic cuts. Based on the results, we conclude that the experimental studies of the $B_c$ meson at the two colliders will be complimentary and stimulative. We find that as c.m. energy is increasing from RUN-I to RUN-II at TEV…
We study contributions of a scalar diquark particle in a color representation of anti-triplet and sextet to the top quark pair production at the Tevatron and the Large hadron collider (LHC). The model can give Forward-Backward (FB) asymmetry at the Tevatron while can avoid the same sign top quark production at the LHC by assuming the top-number conserving diquark couplings. We study compatibility between the large positive FB asymmetry observed at the Tevatron and non-observation of the charge asymmetry at the LHC, by including contributions from the single and pair production of diquarks. We …
We examine the discovery potential for SUSY new physics at a p{\bar p} collider upgrade of Tevatron with \sqrt s = 5.4 TeV and luminosity L ~= 4\times 10^{32} cm^{-2}s^{-1} (the Tripler). We consider the reach for gluinos and squarks using the experimental signatures with large missing transverse energy (\met) of jets + \met and 1l + jets + \met (where l=electron or muon) within the framework of minimal supergravity. The Tripler's strongest reach for the gluino is 1060 GeV for the jets + \met channel and 1140 GeV for the 1l + jets + \met channel for 30 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity (approxi…
We present a systematic comparison of jet predictions at the LHC and the Tevatron, with accuracy up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). The exact computation at NNLO is completed for the gluons-only channel, so we compare the exact predictions for this channel with an approximate prediction based on threshold resummation, in order to determine the regions where this approximation is reliable at NNLO. The kinematic regions used in this study are identical to the experimental setup used by recently published jet data from the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC, and CDF and D0 experiments …
We study the phenomenology of same sign top pair production at the LHC in a model-independent way. The complete set of dimension six operators involving two top (or anti-top) quarks is introduced and the connection with all possible t- or s-channel particle exchanges is established. Only in the former case, same and opposite sign top pair production can be related. We find that while current Tevatron data disfavor t-channel models, other production mechanisms are viable and can be tested at the LHC.
We consider the top forward-backward (FB) asymmetry at the Tevatron and top charge asymmetry at the LHC within chiral U(1)^\prime models with flavor-dependent U(1)^\prime charges and flavored Higgs fields, which were introduced in the ref. [65]. The models could enhance not only the top forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron, but also the top charge asymmetry at LHC, without too large same-sign top pair production rates. We identify parameter spaces for the U(1)^\prime gauge boson and (pseudo)scalar Higgs bosons where all the experimental data could be accommodated, including the case with abo…
A sizeable charge asymmetry in top quark pair production has been observed at the Tevatron. The experimental results seem to exceed systematically the Standard Model theory predictions by a significant amount and have triggered a large number of suggestions for 'new physics'. The effect is also visible at the LHC, and preliminary results have already been presented by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. In this talk, we review the present status of the theoretical predictions, and their comparison with the experimental measurements.
Predictions from the GR@PPA event generator concerning the transverse-momentum ($p_{T}$) spectrum of $Z$ bosons are compared with recent measurements at LHC and Tevatron. The simulation results are in reasonable agreement with the measurements, although marginal discrepancies are observed in high-$p_{T}$ regions. The principal agreements imply that the leading-order simulation with a primitive parton shower based on the leading-logarithmic approximation still provides a reasonable description of the transverse motion of the hard-interaction system in hadron collisions, without the need to intr…
We propose a charged, electrically neutral, and flavour changing Z' model to conciliate the apparent disagreement between the important excess found in the top-antitop Tevatron forward-backward asymmetry and the null -compatible with negative- results found in the LHC charge asymmetry. We show that this model contributes positively to the forward-backward asymmetry, whereas naturally a new cancellation is turned on at the LHC, yielding a null, or even negative, charge asymmetry. We found the region in parameter space that is simultaneously allowed by the stringent Tevatron and LHC observables.…
We calculate the total cross section for single charged slepton production in association with a top quark at hadron colliders in the baryon triality (B$_3$) supersymmetric model. We compute event rates for the Tevatron and LHC. We study the signatures for different supersymmetric scenarios including neutralino and stau LSPs. We perform a detailed analysis with basic cuts for the B$_3$ operator $\lam^\prime_{231}$ using Monte Carlo simulations to show that the signal can be distinguished from the background at the LHC. In particular we employ the resulting lepton charge asymmetry.
MSSM Higgs bosons are the most promising way to discover Higgs physics at hadronic colliders since their cross section is enhanced compared to that of the Standard Model. We will present theoretical predictions for their production and decay in the Higgs$\to ττ$ channel at the Tevatron and the LHC, focusing on the theoretical uncertainties that affect them. The inferred SUSY Higgs bounds on the $[\tan β; M_A]$ plane and the impact of these uncertainties will also be discussed.
If all the supersymmetry particles (sparticles) except a light Higgs boson are too heavy to be directly produced at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and Tevatron, a possible way to reveal evidence for supersymmetry is through their virtual effects in other processes. We examine such supersymmetric QCD effects in bottom pair production associated with a light Higgs boson at the LHC and Tevatron. We find that if the relevant sparticles (gluinos and squarks) are well above the TeV scale, too heavy to be directly produced, they can still have sizable virtual effects in this process. For large $\tan…
