Tribimaximal lepton mixing can be obtained assuming A4 flavour symmetry. Many possibilities have been explored in the literature and we give a classification in terms of A4 representations. We propose some phenomenological and theoretical criteria to distinguish between different assignment. As example we consider the possibility to extend A4 to SO(10) grand unified model.

We assume a dark $U_{D}$ symmetric hidden sector and explore its possible content such that neutrino mass and Dark Matter are generated through the scotogenic mechanism. The hidden sector is considered analogue to the Standard Model, namely the charge assignment of hidden fermions is chiral and anomaly-free. Moreover, $U_{D}$ is assumed broken by an only Higgs singlet that also generates masses to all hidden fermions, therefore the charge assignment is subjected to additional restriction. We search by computer program for charge assignments satisfying all these conditions, and identify the res…
Supersymmetric SU(5) GUT augmented with anomaly free U(1)_F flavor symmetry is presented. Very economical field content and U(1)_F charge assignment are obtained by specific construction. In particular, three families of 10+5* chiral matter, along the SU(5) singlet states (some of which serve as right handed neutrinos) are obtained. Appealing texture zero Yukawa matrices provide natural understanding of hierarchies between charged fermion masses and mixings. The model predicts inverted hierarchical neutrino mass scenario with interesting implications.
We propose a predictively radiative neutrino mass model with gauged $U(1)_{B-2L_{\ell_2}-L_{\ell_1}}$ symmetry in which we successfully realize two-zero textures of neutrino mass matrix depending on charge assignment for leptons and the singlet scalar fields. Then some correlations of neutrino parameters are shown where we take mass structure given by $(\ell_2, \ell_1) = (μ, τ)$ or $(μ, e)$ as a representative case. Furthermore we discuss phenomenology of the model such as lepton flavor violations, collider physics, and dark matter candidate.
We propose Dirac type active neutrino with rank two mass matrix and a Majorana fermion dark matter candidate with an alternative local $U(1)_{B-L}$ extension of neutrinophilic two Higgs doublet model. Our dark matter candidate can be stabilized due to charge assignment under the gauge symmetry without imposing extra discrete $Z_2$ symmetry and the relic density is obtained from $Z'$ boson exchanging process. Taking into account collider constraints on $Z'$ boson mass and coupling, we estimate the relic density.
We study the role of a very general type of flavor symmetry in controlling the strength of R-parity violation in supersymmetric models. We assume that only leptons are charged under a global symmetry whose breaking induces lepton number (and, hence, R-parity) violation. The charge assignments of leptons under this symmetry are such that the total number of independent lepton number violating couplings is reduced from 39 to 6. The most severe constraints on these flavor-correlated couplings arise from neutrino masses and mixing as well as from the non-observation of K_L -> eμ. We find that such…
We study neutrino masses and mixing in the context of flavor models with A4 symmetry, three scalar doublets in the triplet representation, and three lepton families. We show that there is no representation assignment that yields a dimension-five mass operator consistent with experiment. We then consider a type-I seesaw with three heavy right-handed neutrinos, explaining in detail why it fails, and showing with a numerical example that agreement with the present neutrino oscillation data can be recovered with the inclusion of dimension-three heavy neutrino mass terms that break softly the A4 sy…
We propose an extra $U(1)_X$ model with an alternative charge assignment for right-handed right-handed neutrinos. The type-II seesaw mechanism by a triplet Higgs field is promising for neutrino mass generation because of the alternative charge assignment. The small vacuum expectation value (VEV) of an additional Higgs doublet naturally leads to a very small VEV of the triplet Higgs field, and as a result, the smallness of neutrino mass can be understood. With the minimal Higgs field for $U(1)_X$ with the charge $1$, right-handed neutrinos are candidates for Dirac dark matter (DM) and dark radi…
Modular symmetries have been impeccable in neutrino and quark sectors. This motivated us, therefore, to propose a variant of scotogenic model based on modular $A_4$ symmetry to realize the neutrino mass generation at one-loop level through radiative mechanism. Alongside, the lepton flavour violating process $μ\to e γ$ and the muon $g-2$ anomaly are also addressed. The lightest Majorana fermions turn out to be potential dark matter candidates, made stable by suitable assignment of modular weights. The relic density of the same has been computed with annihilations mediated by inert scalars and n…
An extension of the Standard Model with anomaly free $U(1)_F$ flavor symmetry is studied in this paper. With this extension and the addition of the right-handed neutrino states, the solution of anomaly free charge assignments is found, which gives appealing texture zero and hierarchical Yukawa matrices. This gives us a natural understanding of the hierarchies between charged fermion masses and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements. Neutrino Dirac and Majorana coupling matrices also have desirable structures leading to successful neutrino oscillations with inverted neutrino mass order…
We propose a model where the masses of the active neutrinos and a dark matter candidate are generated radiatively through the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry breaking. It is realized by a non-universal $U(1)_{B-L}$ charge assignment on the right handed neutrinos and one of them becomes DM. The dark matter mass becomes generally small compared with the typical mass of the Weak Interacting Massive Particles and we have milder constraints on the dark matter. We consider the case where the dark matter is produced through the freeze-in mechanism and show that the observed dark matter relic density can …
In this paper, we propose a scotogenic model of neutrino masses with flavor-dependent $U(1)_{B-3L_α}(α=e, μ, τ)$ gauge symmetry, in which neutrinos are generated at one-loop level and a fermion dark matter is naturally accommodated. In this model, three one-zero-texture structures of neutrino mass matrix, denoted as patterns A, B and C, are successfully realized by appropriate charge assignment for inert fermions and scalar fields. For each predicted textures, a detailed numerical analysis is carried out to find the allowed regions of neutrino mixing and masses. We find three scenarios (A for …
It is clear that matter is dominant in the Universe compared to antimatter. We call this problem baryon asymmetry. The baryon asymmetry is experimentally determined by both cosmic microwave background and big bang nucleosynthesis measurements. To resolve the baryon number asymmetry of the Universe as well as neutrino oscillations, we study a radiative seesaw model in a modular $A_4$ symmetry. Degenerate heavy Majorana neutrino masses can be naturally realized in an appropriate assignments under modular $A_4$ with large imaginary part of modulus $τ$, and it can induce measured baryon number via…
We study a Zee-Babu model in a modular $A_4$ flavor symmetry, in which we search for several predictions such as phases, sum of neutrino masses, and neutrinoless double beta decay, satisfying neutrino oscillation data in a minimum framework of the charge assignments of modular weight. We perform $Δχ^2$ analysis to get our results and find $τ$ is localized nearby at one of the fixed points of $i\times \infty$ for both of normal and inverted mass hierarchies.
In a model with $B-L$ gauge symmetry, right-handed neutrinos may have exotic local $B-L$ charge assignment: two of them with $B-L=-4$ and the other one having $B-L=5$. Then, it is natural to accommodate the right-handed neutrinos with the same $B-L$ charge in a doublet of the discrete $S_3$ symmetry, and the third one in a singlet. If the Yukawa interactions involving right-handed neutrinos are invariant under $S_3$, the quasi-Dirac neutrino scheme arise naturally in this model. However, we will show how in this scheme it is possible to give a value for $θ_{13}$ in agreement with the Daya Bay …
We propose a new model where the Dirac mass term for neutrinos, the Majorana mass term for right-handed neutrinos, and the other new fermion masses arise via the spontaneous breakdown of the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry. The anomaly-free condition gives four sets of assignment of the B-L charge to new particles, and three of these sets have an associated global $U(1)_{DM}$ symmetry which stabilizes dark matter candidates. The dark matter candidates contribute to generating the Dirac mass term for neutrinos at the one-loop level. Consequently, tiny neutrino masses are generated at the two-loop l…
The minimal Standard Model extension with the Weinberg operator does accommodate the observed neutrino masses and mixing, but predicts a neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay rate proportional to the effective electron neutrino mass, which can be then arbitrarily small within present experimental limits. However, in general $0νββ$ decay can have an independent origin and be near its present experimental bound; whereas neutrino masses are generated radiatively, contributing negligibly to $0νββ$ decay. We provide a realization of this scenario in a simple, well defined and testable model, with…
When the standard model is extended with right-handed neutrinos the symmetries of the resulting Lagrangian are enlarged with a new global U(1)R Abelian factor. In the context of minimal seesaw models we analyze the implications of a slightly broken U(1)R symmetry on charged lepton flavor violating decays. We find, depending on the R-charge assignments, models where charged lepton flavor violating rates can be within measurable ranges. In particular, we show that in the resulting models due to the structure of the light neutrino mass matrix muon flavor violating decays are entirely determined b…
The implementation of seesaw mechanisms to give mass to neutrinos in the presence of an anomaly-free U(1)_X gauge symmetry is discussed in the context of minimal extensions of the standard model. It is shown that type-I and type-III seesaw mechanisms cannot be simultaneously implemented with an anomaly-free local U(1)_X, unless the symmetry is a replica of the well-known hypercharge. For combined type-I/II or type-III/II seesaw models it is always possible to find nontrivial anomaly-free charge assignments, which are however tightly constrained, if the new neutral gauge boson is kinematically …
Neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay can in general produce electrons of either chirality, in contrast with the minimal Standard Model (SM) extension with only the addition of the Weinberg operator, which predicts two left-handed electrons in the final state. We classify the lepton number violating (LNV) effective operators with two leptons of either chirality but no quarks, ordered according to the magnitude of their contribution to \znbb decay. We point out that, for each of the three chirality assignments, $e_Le_L, e_Le_R$ and $e_Re_R$, there is only one LNV operator of the corresponding…
We review recent research in neutrino physics, including neutrino oscillations to test time reversal and CP symmetry violations, the measurement of parameters in the U matrix, sterile neutrino emission causing pulsar kicks, and neutrino energies in the neutrinosphere.
We discuss type-II seesaw models adopting modular $A_4$ symmetry in supersymmetric framework. In our approach, the models are classified by the assignment of $A_4$ representations and modular weights for leptons and triplet Higgs fields. Then neutrino mass matrix is characterized by modulus $τ$ and two free parameters. Carrying out numerical analysis, we find allowed parameter sets which can fit the neutrino oscillation data. For the allowed parameter sets, we obtain the predictions in neutrino sector such as CP violating phases and the lightest neutrino mass. Finally we also show the predicti…
Adding right-handed neutrino singlets and/or fermion triplets to the particle content of the Standard Model allows for the implementation of the seesaw mechanism to give mass to neutrinos and, simultaneously, for the construction of anomaly-free gauge group extensions of the theory. We consider Abelian extensions based on an extra U(1)_X gauge symmetry, where X is an arbitrary linear combination of the baryon number B and the individual lepton numbers L_{e,mu,tau}. By requiring cancellation of gauge anomalies, we perform a detailed analysis in order to identify the charge assignments under the…

We also briefly review the relevance of neutrinos in leptogenesis and in beyond-the-Standard-Model physics.
We propose a model to explain tiny masses of neutrinos with the lepton number conservation, where neither too heavy particles beyond the TeV-scale nor tiny coupling constants are required. Assignments of conserving lepton numbers to new fields result in an unbroken $Z_2$ symmetry that stabilizes the dark matter candidate (the lightest $Z_2$-odd particle). In this model, $Z_2$-odd particles play an important role to generate the mass of neutrinos. The scalar dark matter in our model can satisfy constraints on the dark matter abundance and those from direct searches. It is also shown that the st…
We briefly summarise the current status of neutrino masses and mixing, paying special attention to the prospects for observing new leptonic interactions.
The 2-neutrino exchange potential is a Standard Model weak potential arising from the exchange of virtual neutrino-antineutrino pairs which must include all neutrino properties, including the number of flavors, their masses, fermionic nature (Dirac or Majorana), and CP violation. We describe a new approach for calculating the spin-independent 2-neutrino exchange potential, including the mixing of three neutrino mass states and CP violation.
