Phys. Rev. D 78, 052006 (2008). We are posting a new version of the paper with corrections for minor errors in some of the figures and tables. It should be noted that the data-theory comparison presented in the results section (VIII) used the correct numbers, so the conclusions of the paper have not changed. More details can be found in [1] of the paper
We present a measurement of the inclusive jet cross section in p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV based on data collected by the CDF II detector with an integrated luminosity of 1.13 fb^-1. The measurement was made using the cone-based Midpoint jet clustering algorithm in the rapidity region of |y|<2.1. The results are consistent with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions based on recent parton distribution functions (PDFs), and are expected to provide increased precision in PDFs at high parton momentum fraction x. The results are also compared to the recent inclusive jet cross section measurement using the k_T jet clustering algorithm, and we find that the ratio of the cross sections measured with the two algorithms is in agreement with theoretical expectations over a large range of jet transverse momentum and rapidity.
Charmonium and bottomonium production is studied using $μ^+μ^-$ data samples collected by the CDF and D0 experiments during the 1992-96 p-pbar collider run at the Fermilab Tevatron. The inclusive cross sections as a function of the transverse momentum of reconstructed quarkonium states are measured. The results are compared with theoretical predictions, which take into account different quarkonium production mechanisms.
We present the first observation and cross section measurement of exclusive dijet production in pbar-p interactions, pbar + p --> pbar + dijet + p. Using a data sample of 310 pb-1 collected by the Run II Collider Detector at Fermilab at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV, exclusive cross sections for events with two jets of transverse energy ET >= 10 GeV have been measured as a function of minimum ET(jet). The exclusive signal is extracted from fits to data distributions based on Monte Carlo simulations of expected dijet signal and background shapes. The simulated background distribution shapes are checked in a…
We report on a measurement of the fraction of events with a W or Z boson which are produced diffractively in antiproton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV, using data from 0.6 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity collected with the CDF-II detector equipped with a Roman-pot spectrometer that detects the antiproton (pbar) from pbar+p --> pbar+[X+W/Z]. We find that (1.00+/- 0.11)% of Ws and (0.88+/-0.22)% of Zs are produced diffractively in a region of antiproton or proton fractional momentum loss (ξ) of 0.03<ξ<0.10 and 4-momentum transferred squared t of -1<t<0 (GeV/…
A search for antiproton decay has been made at the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator. Limits are placed on thirteen antiproton decay modes. The results include the first explicit experimental limits on the muonic decay modes of the antiproton, and the first limits on the decay modes e- gamma gamma, and e- omega. The most stringent limit is for the decay mode pbar-> e- gamma. At 90% C.L. we find that tau/B(pbar-> e- gamma) > 7 x 10^5 yr. The most stringent limit for decay modes with a muon in the final state is for the decay pbar-> mu- gamma. At 90% C.L. we find that tau/B(pbar-> mu- gamma) > 5 x…
We present measurements of charmonium and bottomonium production using a data sample collected by CDF during the 1992-93 p-pbar collider run at the Fermilab Tevatron.
We report a measurement of the fraction of events with a large pseudorapidity gap $Δη$ within the pseudorapidity region available to the proton dissociation products $X$ in $\bar p+p\to \bar p+X$. For a final state $\bar p$ of fractional momentum loss $ξ_{\bar p}$ and 4-momentum transfer squared $t_{\bar p}$ within $0.06<ξ_{\bar p}<0.09$ and $|t_{\bar p}|<1.0$ [0.2] GeV$^2$ at $\sqrt s=1800$ [630] GeV, the fraction of events with $Δη>3$is found to be $0.246\pm 0.001 {\rm (stat)}\pm 0.042 {\rm (syst)}$ [$0.184\pm 0.001 {\rm (stat)}\pm 0.043 {\rm (syst)}$]. Our results are compared with gap frac…
We report a study of $\bar p+p\to \bar p+X+Y$ at $\sqrt s=1800$ GeV, where $Y$ is a proton or system of mass-squared $M_Y^2\lesssim 8$ GeV$^2$. In a sample of events with a leading $\bar p$ of fractional momentum loss $0.035<ξ_{\bar p}<0.095$ and 4-momentum transfer squared $|t_{\bar p}|<1.0$ GeV$^2$, the proton fractional momentum loss $ξ_p^X$ to the system $X$ was evaluated from the momenta of the particles comprising $X$. In the region $ξ_p^X<0.02$, the $ξ_p^X$ distribution behaves as $\sim 1/(ξ_p^X)^{1.1}$, as expected for double Pomeron exchange. The fraction of events with $ξ_p^X<0.02$ i…
The CDF and DØcollaborations continue to search for new physics using more than 100~pb$^{-1}$ of \xxbar{p} collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV collected at the Fermilab Tevatron. We present recent results from both experiments on R-parity violating Supersymmetry and $Z'$/Technicolor production with $ee$ and \xxbar{t} final states. In addition we introduce Sherlock, a new quasi-model-independent search strategy.
We present electroweak physics results from the DZero experiment using data from collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV, concentrating on single W and Z production cross sections and the production of electroweak gauge boson pairs. The inclusive cross sections times branching ratios for W and Z production have been measured and are used to determine the inclusive width of the W boson. Direct tests of the WWγand WWZ trilinear gauge boson couplings are derived from the study of diboson production. These measurements test the non-abelian self couplings of the W, Z and photon, one of the most direct con…
This paper reviews recent measurements by the D0 and CDF collaborations in pbarp collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV of W and Z boson production cross sections and asymmetries. Results from both experiments for the search of the Higgs boson predicted by the standard model in four different decay channels are also presented.
The production of a Standard Model Higgs boson in association with a top quark pair at the upcoming high luminosity run (15 inverse fb integrated luminosity) of the Fermilab Tevatron (root s = 2.0 TeV) is revisited. For Higgs masses below 140 GeV we demonstrate that the production cross section times branching ratio for H->B Bbar decays yields a significant number of events and that this mode is competitive with and complementary to the searches using P Pbar -> WH, ZH associated production. For higher mass Higgs bosons the H -> W+ W- decays are more difficult but have the potential to provide …
This talk at the XVIII International Conference on Physics in Collision, Frascati, Italy, June 17-19, 1998, presents CDF and D0 results on W and Z Boson Production Cross Sections, the W Boson Width, Rare W Boson Decays, Trilinear Gauge Boson Couplings, and the W Boson Mass.
The \d0 (DZERO) Detector at Fermilab is currently collecting data since March 1, 2001, called Run 2. The detector has undergone an extensive upgrade to participate in the Run 2 data taking. The design of the detector meets the requirements of the high luminosity environment provided by the accelerator. This paper describes the upgraded detector subsystems and gives an outline of the physics potentials associated with the upgrade.
Searching for and potential discovery of Higgs boson(s) both within and beyond the standard model is perhaps the most visible physics goal of the current Fermilab Tevatron program. In this proceeding, recent results from both the CDF and DØexperiments based on analyses of datasets with integrated luminosities between 1.7 and 3.0 fb$^{-1}$ are summarized. The combined Tevatron cross section upper limits on the production of a standard model Higgs boson are fast approaching the expected standard model values for a wide mass range. Particularly, the Tevatron has now excluded a standard model Higg…
We present results from a measurement of double diffraction dissociation in $\bar pp$ collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The production cross section for events with a central pseudorapidity gap of width $Δη^0>3$ (overlapping $η=0$) is found to be $4.43\pm 0.02{(stat)}{\pm 1.18}{(syst) mb}$ [$3.42\pm 0.01{(stat)}{\pm 1.09}{(syst) mb}$] at $\sqrt{s}=1800$ [630] GeV. Our results are compared with previous measurements and with predictions based on Regge theory and factorization.
This writeup is an introduction to some of the experimental issues involved in performing electroweak and B physics measurements at the Fermilab Tevatron. In the electroweak sector, we discuss W and Z boson cross section measurements as well as the measurement of the mass of the W boson. For B physics, we discuss measurements of B^0/\bar{B^0} mixing and CP violation. This paper is geared towards nonexperts who are interested in understanding some of the issues and motivations for these measurements and how the measurements are carried out.
This paper presents a review of the study of Exclusive Central Production at a Center of Mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=40$ GeV at the Fermilab Fixed Target program. In all reactions reviewed in this paper, protons with an energy of 800 GeV were extracted from the Tevatron accelerator at Fermilab and directed to a Liquid Hydrogen target. The states reviewed include $π^+π^-$, $K^0_s K^0_s$, $ K^0_sK^\pmπ^\mp$, $ϕϕ$ and $D^{*\pm}$. Partial Wave Analysis results will be presented on the light states but only the cross section will be reviewed in the diffractive production of $D^{*\pm}$
The standard model is a successful but limited theory. There is significant theoretical motivation to believe that new physics may appear at the energy scale of a few TeV, the lower end of which is currently probed by the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The methods used to search for physics beyond the standard model in a model independent way and the results of these searches based on 1.0 fb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector and 2.0 fb^-1 at the CDF detector are presented.
We address known discrepancies between the heavy flavor properties of jets produced at the Tevatron collider and the prediction of conventional-QCD simulations. In this study, we entertain the possibility that these effects are real and due to new physics. We show that all anomalies can be simultaneously fitted by postulating the additional pair production of light bottom squarks with a 100% semileptonic branching fraction.
We present an idea for a future D0-D0bar mixing and CP violation experiment to run at the Fermilab Tevatron. We estimate that in three years of running, such an experiment could reconstruct an order of magnitude more flavor-tagged D0->K+pi- decays than will be reconstructed by the B-factory experiments with their full data sets. The resulting sensitivity to CP-violating parameters |q/p| and Arg(q/p) is calculated from a global fit to CP-violating observables, and it is found to be much greater than current world sensitivity.
We report results of a search for particles with anomalously high ionization in events with a high transverse energy jet and large missing transverse energy in $2.4$ fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ collider. Production of such particles (quirks) is expected in scenarios with extra QCD-like {\it SU(N)} sectors, and this study is the first dedicated search for such signatures. We find no evidence of a signal and set a lower mass limit of 107 ~GeV for the mass of a charged quirk with strong dynamics scale $Λ$ in the range from …
Results from the Fermilab Tevatron pbar-p collider on diffractive and total cross sections are reviewed with emphasis on physics significance and properties pointing to expectations at the LHC.
The top quark, discovered at the Tevatron in 1995, is a very interesting particle. Precise measurement of the top properties using large data samples will allow stringent tests of the Standard Model and offer a unique window on new physics. In this report will be reviewed the status of the current knowledge of the top quark as provided by the Run I results of the CDF and D0 experiment. A first look at various preliminary measurements obtained with data collected during Run II will be also presented.
We present measurements of the transverse momentum distribution of W and Z bosons produced in pbar p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The data were collected with the D0 detector at Fermilab during 1994-1996 Tevatron run. The results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions based on the perturbative QCD and soft gluon resummation combined calculation over the entire measured pt range p_T = 0-200 GeV/c).
We report a new measurement of the pseudorapidity (eta) and transverse-energy (Et) dependence of the inclusive jet production cross section in pbar b collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV using 95 pb**-1 of data collected with the DZero detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The differential cross section d^2sigma/dEt deta is presented up to |eta| = 3, significantly extending previous measurements. The results are in good overall agreement with next-to-leading order predictions from QCD and indicate a preference for certain parton distribution functions.
We have used 19 pb**-1 of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab to search for new particles decaying to dijets. We exclude at 95% confidence level models containing the following new particles: axigluons with mass between 200 and 870 GeV, excited quarks with mass between 80 and 570 GeV, and color octet technirhos with mass between 320 and 480 GeV.
We report on a study of the ratio of inclusive three-jet to inclusive two-jet production cross sections as a function of total transverse energy in p-pbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV, using data collected with the D0 detector during the 1992-1993 run of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measurements are used to deduce preferred renormalization scales in perturbative O(alpha_s^3) QCD calculations in modeling soft-jet emission.
We have made a precise measurement of the central inclusive jet cross section at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The measurement is based on an integrated luminosity of 92 pb-1 collected at the Fermilab Tevatron pbar-p Collider with the D-Zero detector. The cross section, reported as a function of jet transverse energy (ET >= 60 GeV) in the pseudorapidity interval |eta| <= 0.5, is in good agreement with predictions from next-to-leading order quantum chromodynamics.
Bottom quark production in pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV is studied with 5 inverse picobarns of data collected in 1995 by the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The differential production cross section for b jets in the central rapidity region (|y(b)| < 1) as a function of jet transverse energy is extracted from a muon-tagged jet sample. Within experimental and theoretical uncertainties, DO results are found to be higher than, but compatible with, next-to-leading-order QCD predictions.
A measurement of the cross section for production of single, isolated photons is reported for transverse energies in the range of 10-125 GeV, for two regions of pseudorapidity, |η|<0.9 and 1.6<|η|<2.5. The data represent 12.9 pb-1 of integrated luminosity accumulated in p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV and recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider.
For comparison of inclusive jet cross sections measured at hadron-hadron colliders to next-to-leading order (NLO) parton-level calculations, the energy deposited in the jet cone by spectator parton interactions must first be subtracted. The assumption made at the Tevatron is that the spectator parton interaction energy is similar to the ambient level measured in minimum bias events. In this paper, we test this assumption by measuring the ambient charged track momentum in events containing large transverse energy jets at $\sqrt{s}=1800$ GeV and $\sqrt{s}=630$ GeV and comparing this ambient mome…
The cross sections for W and Z production in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV are measured using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The detected final states are W->e nu, Z->ee, W->mu nu, and Z->mu mu. In the ratio of these measurements, many common sources of systematic error cancel and we measure the ratio of the W and Z cross-sections. Assuming standard model couplings, this result is used to determine the width of the W boson and to set a limit on the decay W->t-bbar.
Various recent results of new particle searches at the Fermilab Tevatron are presented. No evidence is found for supersymmetric particles (chargino, gluino), leptoquark bosons and heavy gauge bosons in p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV. Excluded mass regions for each particle are determined.
We present a measurement of the Bs lifetime in fully and partially reconstructed Bs -> Ds(phi pi)X decays in 1.3 fb-1 of pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We measure tau(Bs) = 1.518 +/- 0.041 (stat.) +/- 0.027 (syst.) ps. The ratio of this result and the world average B0 lifetime yields tau(Bs)/tau(B0) = 0.99 +/-0.03, which is in agreement with recent theoretical predictions.
This Letter describes a measurement of the muon cross section originating from b quark decay in the forward rapidity range 2.4 < y(mu) < 3.2 in pbarp collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The data used in this analysis were collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. We find that NLO QCD calculations underestimate b quark production by a factor of four in the forward rapidity region. A cross section measurement using muon+jet data has been included in this version of the paper.
First evidence for single top quark production has recently been found by both the D0 and CDF experiments. By combining three analyses, D0 measured a cross section of 4.7 +- 1.3 pb, with a significance of 3.6 standard deviations, and CDF's matrix elements analysis measured a cross section of 3.0 +1.2 -1.1 pb, with a significance of 3.1 standard deviations. These analyses also provided the first direct measurements of the CKM matrix element, |Vtb|, without assuming unitarity. This talk briefly describes the latest single top production results from the two experiments.
Results are presented from analyses of jet data produced in pbarp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 1960 GeV collected with the DZero and CDF detectors during 2002--03 at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Preliminary measurements of the inclusive jet cross section, the dijet mass spectrum, and jet structure are presented.
Fermilab operates the world's most intense source of antiprotons. Recently various experiments have been proposed that can use those antiprotons either parasitically during Tevatron Collider running or after the Tevatron Collider finishes in about 2010. We discuss the physics goals and prospects of the proposed experiments.
We report a measurement of the diffractive structure function $F_{jj}^D$ of the antiproton obtained from a study of dijet events produced in association with a leading antiproton in $\bar pp$ collisions at $\sqrt s=630$ GeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. The ratio of $F_{jj}^D$ at $\sqrt s=630$ GeV to $F_{jj}^D$ obtained from a similar measurement at $\sqrt s=1800$ GeV is compared with expectations from QCD factorization and with theoretical predictions. We also report a measurement of the $ξ$ ($x$-Pomeron) and $β$ ($x$ of parton in Pomeron) dependence of $F_{jj}^D$ at $\sqrt s=1800$ GeV. In the re…
We present results from MiniMax (Fermilab T-864), a small test/experiment at the Tevatron designed to search for the production of disoriented chiral condensate (DCC) in $p - \bar p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.8$ TeV in the forward direction, $\sim 3.4 < η< \sim 4.2$. Data, consisting of $1.3 \times 10^6$ events, are analyzed using the robust observables developed in an earlier paper. The results are consistent with generic, binomial-distribution partition of pions into charged and neutral species. Limits on DCC production in various models are presented.
Recent QCD jet production measurements in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV at the Tevatron Collider at Fermilab are presented. Preliminary: inclusive jet, dijet, isolated photon + jet and Z + jets measurements are compared to available perturbative QCD models.
We provide the most precise measurement of the WW production cross section in p-pbar collisions to date at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV, and set limits on the associated trilinear gauge couplings. The WW->lvl'v (l,l'=e,mu) decay channels are analyzed in 1 fb^(-1) of data collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measured cross section is sigma(p-pbar -> WW) = 11.5 +/- 2.1 (stat + syst) +/- 0.7 (lumi) pb. One- and two-dimensional 95% C.L. limits on trilinear gauge couplings are provided.
The cross section for the inclusive production of isolated photons has been measured in p anti-p collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The photons span transverse momenta 23 to 300 GeV and have pseudorapidity |eta|<0.9. The cross section is compared with the results from two next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations. The theoretical predictions agree with the measurement within uncertainties.
We report on a measurement of the mass dependence of the forward-backward charge asymmetry, A_FB, and production cross section dsigma/dM for e+e- pairs with mass M_ee>40 GeV/c2. The data sample consists of 108 pb-1 of p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV taken by the Collider Detector at Fermilab during 1992-1995. The measured asymmetry and dsigma/dM are compared with the predictions of the Standard Model and a model with an extra Z' gauge boson.
We present measurements of the anomalous WWgamma and WWZ trilinear gauge couplings from a combination of four diboson production and decay channels using data collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. These results represent the first high statistics combination of limits across different diboson production processes at the Tevatron and use data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 1 fb^-1. When respecting SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y symmetry, we measure central values and 68% C.L. allowed intervals of kappa_gamma=1.07^+0.16_-0.20, lambda =0.00^+0.05_-0.04 and …
We present a measurement of the differential cross section as a function of transverse momentum of the Z boson in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV using data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider during 1994--1996. We find good agreement between our data and the NNLO resummation prediction and extract values of the non-perturbative parameters for the resummed prediction from a fit to the differential cross section.
We report a measurement of the Lambda_b lifetime in the exclusive decay Lambda_b --> J/psi Lambda0 in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb^{-1} of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Using fully reconstructed decays, we measure tau(Lambda_b) = 1.593 ^{+0.083}_{-0.078} (stat.) +- 0.033 (syst.) ps. This is the single most precise measurement of tau(Lambda_b) and is 3.2 sigma higher than the current world average.
Recent advances in superconductor properties and superconducting magnet technology have made it possible to build cost-effective, high-performance dipoles with a field of 12 Tesla - 3 times the field strength of the Tevatron. Such magnets could be used to upgrade Fermilab's collider in its existing tunnel to a collision energy $\sqrt s$= 6 TeV and luminosity {$\cal L$}$>$ 10$^{33}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$. We have calculated the parton luminosities for quark-antiquark and gluon-gluon scattering for the Tevatron, the Tripler, and LHC. In most models of the Higgs field and supersymmetry, the Tripler w…
We consider the hadroproduction of chi_{c1} and chi_{c2} mesons and their subsequent radiative decays to J/psi mesons and photons in the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics, and study the decay angular distributions, by means of helicity density matrices, in view of their sensitivity to color-octet processes. We present numerical results appropriate for the Fermilab Tevatron.
We report on a measurement of sigma(p-pbar to W+X) times B(W to tau+nu) in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measurement is based on an integrated luminosity of 18 pb^-1 of data collected with the D0 detector during 1994-1995. We find that sigma(p-pbar to W+X) times B(W to tau+nu) = 2.22 +- 0.09 (stat) +- 0.10 (syst) +- 0.10 (lum) nb. Lepton universality predicts that the ratio of the tau and electron electroweak charged current couplings to the W boson, g_tau^W / g_e^W, be unity. We find g_tau^W / g_e^W = 0.980 +- 0.031, in agreement with lepton universality…
The WWgamma triple gauge boson coupling parameters are studied using p-pbar -> l nu gamma + X (l = e,mu) events at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. The data were collected with the DO detector from an integrated luminosity of 162 pb^{-1} delivered by the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The cross section times branching fraction for p-pbar -> W(gamma) + X -> l nu gamma + X with E_T^{gamma} > 8 GeV and Delta R_{l gamma} > 0.7 is 14.8 +/- 1.6 (stat) +/- 1.0 (syst) +/- 1.0 (lum) pb. The one-dimensional 95% confidence level limits on anomalous couplings are -0.88 < Delta kappa_{gamma} < 0.96 and -0.20 < lambda_{gam…
We present a study of events with W bosons and hadronic jets produced in pbar p collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.8 TeV. The data consist of 51400 W^+/- -> e^+/- nu decay candidates from 108 pb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the CDF detector at the Tevatron Collider. The cross sections and jet production properties have been measured for W + \geq 1 to \geq 4 jet events. The data are compared to predictions of leading order QCD matrix element calculations with added gluon radiation and simulated fragmentation.
We report a new measurement of the cross section for the production of isolated photons, with transverse energies (ET) above 10 GeV and pseudorapidities |eta| < 2.5, in p pbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV. The results are based on a data sample of 107.6 pb-1 recorded during 1992--1995 with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The background, predominantly from jets which fragment to neutral mesons, was estimated using the longitudinal shower shape of photon candidates in the calorimeter. The measured cross section is in good agreement with the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD c…
We present a new measurement of the $B^+$ meson differential cross section $dσ/d p_T$ at $\sqrt{s}=1960$ GeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 739pb$^{-1}$ collected with the upgraded CDF detector (CDF II) at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. $B^+$ candidates are reconstructed through the decay $B^+ \to J/ψK^+$, with $J/ψ\to μ^+ μ^-$. The integrated cross section for producing $B^+$ mesons with $p_T \geq 6$ GeV/c and $|y| \leq 1$ is measured to be $2.78 \pm 0.24 μ$b
We have searched in $p \bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.8 TeV for events with three charged leptons and missing transverse energy. In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, we expect trilepton events from chargino-neutralino ($\chione \chitwo$) pair production, with subsequent decay into leptons. We observe no candidate $e^+e^-e^\pm$, $e^+e^-μ^\pm$, $e^\pmμ^+μ^-$ or $μ^+μ^-μ^\pm$ events in 106 pb$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity. We present limits on the sum of the branching ratios times cross section for the four channels: $σ_{\chione\chitwo}\cdot $BR$(\chione\chitwo\to 3\ell+X) < 0.34$~…
We report the first observation of diffractive $J/ψ(\to μ^+μ^-)$ production in $\bar pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=1.8 TeV. Diffractive events are identified by their rapidity gap signature. In a sample of events with two muons of transverse momentum $p_T^μ>2$ GeV/$c$ within the pseudorapidity region $|η|<$1.0, the ratio of diffractive to total $J/ψ$ production rates is found to be $R_{J/ψ}= [1.45\pm 0.25]%$. The ratio $R_{J/ψ}(x)$ is presented as a function of $x$-Bjorken. By combining it with our previously measured corresponding ratio $R_{jj}(x)$ for diffractive dijet production, we extract …
Preliminary results obtained by the CDF and D0 Collaborations on the top quark pair production cross-section in p pbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV are presented. The measurements are obtained using various final states from top quark pair production and decays, and are based on data collected during years 2002-2004 of the Tevatron Run II.
We present a search for associated production of Higgs and $W$ bosons in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at a center of mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV in 5.3 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity recorded by the D0 experiment. Multivariate analysis techniques are applied to events containing one lepton, an imbalance in transverse energy, and one or two $b$-tagged jets to discriminate a potential $WH$ signal from standard model backgrounds. We observe good agreement between data and background, and set an upper limit of 4.5(at 95% confidence level and for $m_H=115$ GeV) on the ratio of the $WH$ cross se…
We present an updated measurement of the anomalous like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry Aslb for semi-leptonic $b$-hadron decays in 9.0 fb^-1 of p pbar collisions recorded with the D0 detector at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We obtain Aslb = (-0.787 +- 0.172(stat) +- 0.093 (syst))%. This result differs by 3.9 standard deviations from the prediction of the standard model and provides evidence for anomalously large CP violation in semi-leptonic neutral B decay. The dependence of the asymmetry on the muon impact parameter is consistent with the hyp…
We have searched for a heavy resonance decaying into a Z+jet final state in p-pbar collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider using the D0 detector. No indication for such a resonance was found in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 370/pb. We set upper limits on the cross section times branching fraction for heavy resonance production at the 95% C.L. as a function of the resonance mass and width. The limits are interpreted within the framework of a specific model of excited quark production.
