Here we address the question regarding the nature of quark gluon plasma (QGP), whether it is a liquid or strongly coupled plasma (SCP), using two different phenomenological models, namely quasi-particle model (qQGP) and strongly coupled quark gluon plasma (SCQGP). First we compare these two models, both of which explains the results of lattice simulation of quantum chromodynamics, as a function of plasma parameter and conclude that the QGP is largely ($T > 1.5 T_c$) SCQGP and only for $T < 1.5 T_c$ it may be a liquid.
The strongly interacting matter under extreme conditions of temperature for the conjectured deconfined phase of the quark-gluon plasma is investigated. A systematic study of the form of the thermal ratio of the disorder deviation (TRDD) is presented with the emphasis on the degree of deviation of the TRDD-function from unity. The space-time evolution of quarks and gluons is studied in the framework of two-particle correlation functions to predict the space-time size of the closed deconfined phase.
In this paper, we compare the dispersion relations of hard thermal loop and complete one loop. It is shown that in the dynamical screening regime, the completely one-loop calculation presents a prominent threshold frequency, below which no pure imaginary mode survives. This phenomenon is responsible for the oscillatory static in-medium potential and ultimately results in a damping oscillation of the radial distribution function. We consider this typical shape is the footprint of liquid QGP.
Recent advances in the study of equations of state of thermal lattice Quantum Chromodynamics obtained at non-zero baryon density allow validation of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) liquid model equations of state (EoS). We study here the properties of the QGP-EoS near to the phase transformation boundary at finite baryon density and show a close agreement with the lattice results.
We investigate the quark spectrum in the quark-gluon plasma phase near color superconducting (CS) and chiral phase transitions. Owing to the precursory soft modes of the phase transitions, there appear novel excitaion spectra: In the CS transition, the quark matter shows non-Fermi liquid behavior and leads to the pseudogap in the density of states of quarks. In the chiral transition, three collective excitations appear in the quark spectrum.
Polarization of $Λ$ hyperons and their antiparticles is calculated in a 3+1 dimensional viscous hydrodynamic model with initial state from UrQMD hadron/string cascade. We find that, along with recent results from STAR, the mean polarization at fixed centrality decreases as a function of collision energy from 1.5% at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=7.7$ GeV to 0.2% at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=200$ GeV. We explore the effects which lead to such collision energy dependence, feed-down corrections and a difference between $Λ$ and $\barΛ$.
The specific shear viscosity (eta/s)_QGP of a Quark-Gluon-Plasma (QGP) at temperatures T_c < T < 2T_c is extracted from the centrality dependence of the eccentricity-scaled elliptic flow measured in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Coupling viscous fluid dynamics for the QGP with a microscopic transport model for hadronic freeze-out we find that the eccentricity-scaled elliptic flow is a universal function of charged multiplicity per unit overlap area, (1/S)(dN_ch/dy), that depends only on the viscosity but not on the model used for computing the initial fireball eccentricity. Comparin…
By finding rare (but not exponentially rare) large-angle deflections of partons within a jet produced in a heavy ion collision, or of such a jet itself, experimentalists can find the weakly coupled short-distance quark and gluon particles (scatterers) within the strongly coupled liquid quark-gluon plasma (QGP) produced in heavy ion collisions. This is the closest one can come to probing QGP via a scattering experiment and ultimately learning how a strongly coupled liquid emerges from an asymptotically free gauge theory. The short-distance, particulate, structure of liquid QGP can be revealed i…
We propose a model for the description of strongly interacting quarks and gluon quasiparticles at $T=(1-3)T_c$, as a classical and nonrelativistic colored Coulomb gas. The sign and strength of the inter-particle interactions are fixed by the scalar product of their classical {\it color vectors} subject to Wong's equations. The model displays a number of phases as the Coulomb coupling is increased ranging from a gas, to a liquid, to a crystal with antiferromagnetic-like color ordering. We analyze the model using Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations and discuss the density-density correlator in r…
Based on an analogy with topologically ordered new state of matter in condensed matter systems, we propose a low energy effective field theory for a parity conserving liquid-like quark-gluon plasma (QGP) around critical temperature in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) system. It shows that below a QCD gap which is expected several times of the critical temperature, the QGP behaves like topological fluid. Many exotic phenomenon of QGP near the critical temperature discovered at RHIC are more readily understood by the suggestion that QGP is a topologically ordered state.
We present a brief report on a thought experiment in which an incident energetic parton traverses a brick of quark-gluon plasma (QGP), see arXiv:1808.03250 for the full report. We calculate the probability of detecting a parton showing up at a large angle with respect to its initial direction due to scattering with the constituents of QGP, using leading order perturbative QCD. We include all relevant channels, including the Rutherford-like channel as considered in early works, and those that are not Rutherford-like but become important at a large angle. The resulting probability distributions …
We calculate the wake induced in a hot, dense QCD medium by a fast parton in the framework of linear response theory. We discuss two different scenarios: a weakly coupled quark gluon plasma (pQGP) described by hard-thermal loop (HTL) perturbation theory and a strongly coupled QGP (sQGP), which had the properties of a quantum liquid.
The quark-gluon plasma close to the critical temperature is a strongly interacting system. Using strongly coupled, classical, non-relativistic plasmas as an analogy, we argue that the quark-gluon plasma is in the liquid phase. This allows to understand experimental observations in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions and to interpret lattice QCD results. It also supports the indications of the presence of a strongly coupled QGP in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions.
A strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma (QGP) of heavy constituent quasiparticles is studied by a path-integral Monte-Carlo method, which improves the corresponding classical simulations by extending them to the quantum regime. It is shown that this method is able to reproduce the lattice equation of state and also yields valuable insight into the internal structure of the QGP. The results indicate that the QGP reveals liquid-like rather than gas-like properties. At temperatures just above the critical one it was found that bound quark-antiquark states still survive. These states are bound by ef…
The thermodynamic properties of the quark gluon plasma($QGP$) as well as its phase diagram are calculated as a function of baryon density (chemical potential) and temperature. The $QGP$ is assumed to be composed of the light quarks only, i.e. the up and the down quarks, which interact weakly and the gluons which are treated as they are free. The interaction between quarks is considered in the framework of the one gluon exchange model which is obtained from the Fermi liquid picture. The bag model is used, with fixed bag pressure (${\cal B}$) for the nonperturbative part and the quantum chromody…
A strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma (QGP) of heavy constituent quasi-particles is studied by a path-integral Monte-Carlo method. This approach is a quantum generalization of the model developed by Gelman, Shuryak and Zahed. It is shown that this method is able to reproduce the QCD lattice equation of state and also yields valuable insight into the internal structure of the QGP. The results indicate that the QGP reveals liquid-like rather than gas-like properties. At temperatures just above the critical one it was found that bound quark-antiquark states still survive. These states are bound b…
The relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC) was constructed to achieve an asymptotic state of nuclear matter in heavy ion collisions, a near-ideal gas of deconfined quarks and gluons denoted quark-gluon plasma or QGP. RHIC collisions are indeed very different from the hadronic processes observed at the Bevalac and AGS, but high-energy elementary-collision mechanisms are also non-hadronic. The two-component model (TCM) combines measured properties of elementary collisions with the Glauber eikonal model to provide an alternative asymptotic limit for A-A collisions. RHIC data have been interpreted…

Heavy ion collisions quickly form a droplet of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) with a remarkably small viscosity. We give an accessible introduction to how to study this smallest and hottest droplet of liquid made on earth and why it is so interesting. The physics of heavy ions ranges from highly energetic quarks and gluons described by perturbative QCD to a bath of strongly interacting gluons at lower energy scales. These gluons quickly thermalize and form QGP, while the energetic partons traverse this plasma and end in a shower of particles called jets. Analyzing the final particles in a variety of…
The modifications of $D_s$-meson spectra in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions are identified as a quantitative probe of key properties of the hot nuclear medium. This is enabled by the unique valence-quark content of the $D_s$=$c\bar{s}$ which couples the well-known strangeness enhancement with the collective-flow pattern of primordially produced charm quarks. We employ a consistent strong-coupling treatment with hydrodynamic bulk evolution and nonperturbative $T$-matrix interactions for both heavy-quark diffusion and hadronization in the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). A large enhancement of t…
Based on the quasiparticle model of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), a color quantum path-integral Monte-Carlo (PIMC) method for calculation of thermodynamic properties and -- closely related to the latter -- a Wigner dynamics method for calculation of transport properties of the QGP are formulated. The QGP partition function is presented in the form of a color path integral with a new relativistic measure instead of the Gaussian one traditionally used in the Feynman-Wiener path integral. It is shown that the PIMC method is able to reproduce the lattice QCD equation of state at zero baryon chemic…

In recent years, significant progress was reached in understanding of vacuum and hadronic structure. We review recent works on the {\it point-to-point correlation functions}, comparing those obtained from phenomenology, ``instanton liquid" models and on the lattice. The second topic is physics of chiral symmetry restoration, which may lead to observable hadron modification and unusual event-per-event fluctuations. We discuss collective flow and phenomena related with a remarkable ``softness" of the equation of state near the phase transition, as well as phenomena at small $p_t$. We also descri…
Lattice data for the QCD equation of state and the baryon susceptibility near the crossover phase transition (at zero baryon density) are used to determine the input parameters of a 5-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton holographic model that provides a consistent holographic framework to study both equilibrium and out-of-equilibrium properties of a hot and {\it baryon rich} strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma (QGP). We compare our holographic equation of state computed at nonzero baryon chemical potential, $μ_B$, with recent lattice calculations and find quantitative agreement for the pressu…
