We study ep deep inelastic scattering and the inclusive production of prompt photon within the framework of the quasi-multi-Regge-kinematic approach, applying the quark Reggeization hypothesis. We describe structure functions F_2 and F_L supposing that a virtual photon scatters on a Reggeized quark from a proton, via the effective gamma-Reggeon-quark vertex. It is shown that the main mechanism of the inclusive prompt photon production in p \bar p collisions is the fusion of a Reggeized quark and a Reggeized antiquark into a photon, via the effective Regeon-Reggeon-gamma vertex. We describe the inclusive photon transverse momentum spectra measured by the CDF and D0 Collaborations within errors and without free parameters, using the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin unintegrated quark and gluon distribution functions in a proton.
We study open charm production at high energies in the framework of the quasi-multi-Regge-kinematics approach applying the quark-Reggeization hypothesis implemented with Reggeon-Reggeon-particle and Reggeon-particle-particle effective vertices. Adopting the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin unintegrated quark and gluon distribution functions of the proton and photon, we thus nicely describe the proton structure function F_{2,c} measured at DESY HERA as well as the transverse-momentum distributions of D mesons created by photoproduction at HERA and by hadroproduction at the Fermilab Tevatron.
We study the inclusive production of isolated prompt photons within the framework of the quasi-multi-Regge-kinematic approach, applying the quark Reggeization hypothesis. We describe accurately and without free parameters the transverse momentum and pseudorapidity spectra of prompt photons in the inclusive photoproduction at the HERA Collider. It is shown that the main mechanism of the inclusive prompt photon production in the gamma p collisions is the fusion of a Reggeized quark (antiquark) from the proton and a collinear antiquark (quark) from the photon into a photon, via the effective Regg…
According to extensive theoretical studies of the high energy limit of QCD, inelastic interactions are dominated by the multi-Regge final states. The appropriate gauge-invariant objects, which simultaneously incorporate the transverse momentum degrees of freedom, are Reggeized gluons, quarks and antiquarks. In the present communication we extend parton Reggeization approach to Drell-Yan production of massive lepton pairs. The basic ingredient is a process of Reggeized quark-antiquark annihilation, which is described by the Reggeon-Reggeon-photon effective vertex. We calculate transverse-moment…
Compatibility of the Reggeized form of QCD multi-particle amplitudes with the s-channel unitarity requires fulfilment of an infinite number of the "bootstrap" relations. On the other hand, it turns out that fulfillment of all these relations ensures the Reggeized form of energy dependent radiative corrections order by order in perturbation theory. It is extremely nontrivial, that all these relations are fulfilled if the Reggeon vertices and trajectory satisfy several bootstrap conditions. The full set of these conditions in the next-to-leading order was derived in the last year and the ultimat…
The hypothesis of the quark Reggeization is tested by taking the high-energy limit of the two-loop amplitude for quark-gluon scattering which was recently calculated. The limit is compatible with the Reggeization in the leading and the next-to-leading orders and allows the determination of the quark trajectory in the two-loop approximation. The trajectory is presented as an expansion in powers of (D-4) for the space-time dimension $D$ tending to the physical value D=4.
A complete proof of the quark Reggeization hypothesis in the leading logarithmic approximation for any quark--gluon inelastic process in the multi--Regge kinematics in all orders of $α_s$ is given. First, we show that the multi--Regge form of QCD amplitudes is guarantied if a set of conditions on the Reggeon vertices and the trajectories is fulfilled. Then, we examine these conditions and show that they are satisfied.
String theory has long ago been initiated by the quest for a theoretical explanation of the observed high-energy ``Reggeization'' of strong interaction amplitudes. In terms of quantum field theory, it is the so-called ``soft'' regime, where the coupling constant is expected to be large and thus perturbative calculations inadequate. However, since then, no convincing derivation of the link between gauge field theory at strong coupling and string theory has come out. This 35-years-old puzzle is thus still unsolved. We discuss how modern tools like the AdS/CFT correspondence give a new insight on…
We consider b-jet production in the quasi-multi-Regge-kinematics approach based on the hypothesis of the gluon and quark Reggeization in the t-channel exchanges at the high energy. The data on various spectra of b-jet production measured by the CDF and D0 Collaborations at the Tevatron Collider are described well and with no free parameters.
We study corrections due to two Pomeron exchanges to the inclusive 1-jet production cross section in the Regge limit of perturbative QCD for a finite number of colors. By considering deep inelastic scattering on a weakly bound two-nucleon system, we carefully follow the logic of the AGK cutting rules and show, for the single inclusive cross section, that, due to the reggeization of the gluon, modifications of the AGK cutting rules appear. As our main result, we investigate and calculate the jet production vertex in the presence of a two-Pomeron cut correction. Compared to previous studies, we …
The contribution of the radiative tail from the quasielastic peak to low order radiative correction to deep inelastic scattering of polarized leptons by polarized $^3$He was calculated within the sum rules formalism and $y$-scaling hypothesis. Numerical analysis was carried out under the conditions of HERMES experiment.
We study the production of prompt diphotons in the central region of rapidity within the framework of the quasi-multi-Regge-kinematics approach applying the hypothesis of quark and gluon Reggeization. We describe accurately and without free parameters the experimental data which were obtained by the CDF Collaboration at the Tevatron Collider. It is shown that the main contribution to studied process is given by the direct fusion of two Reggeized gluons into a photon pair, which is described by the effective Reggeon-Reggeon to particle-particle vertex. The contribution from the annihilation of …
We pursue the hypothesis that the events with a large rapidity gap, observed at HERA, reflect the scattering of electrons off lumps of wee partons inside the proton. A simple scaling behaviour is predicted for the diffractive structure functions, which are related to the inclusive structure function $F_2(x,Q^2)$ at small values of the scaling variable $x$. The results are compared with recent measurements of the diffractive structure function $F_2^D(x,Q^2,M^2)$.
We investigate the power-suppressed corrections to the mean values of various quantities that characterise the shapes of final states in deep inelastic lepton scattering. Our method is based on an analysis of one-loop Feynman graphs containing a massive gluon, which is equivalent to the evaluation of leading infrared renormalon contributions. As in $\ee$ annihilation, we find that the leading corrections are proportional to $1/Q$. We give quantitative estimates based on the hypothesis of a universal low-energy effective coupling.
We study prompt J/psi-meson hadroproduction invoking the hypothesis of gluon Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energy and the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics at the leading order in the strong-coupling constant alpha_s and the relative velocity of quarks v. The transverse-momentum distribution of direct and prompt J/psi-meson production measured at the Fermilab Tevatron fitted to obtain the nonperturbative long-distance matrix elements, which are used to predict prompt J/psi production spectra at the CERN LHC. At the numerical calculation, we adopt t…
Understanding neutrino interactions is an important task in searches for neutrino oscillations; e.g. the nu_{mu} -> nu_{tau} oscillation hypothesis will be tested through nu_{tau} production of tau in long-baseline experiments as well as underground neutrino telescopes. An anomaly in the deep inelastic interaction of neutrinos has recently been observed by the NuTeV collaboration -- resulting in a measured weak mixing angle sin^2 Theta_{W} that differs by ~ 3 sigma from the standard model expectation. In this contribution to the proceedings of NUINT02, we summarize results on the NLO neutrino …
We investigated the energy dependence of the parton-parton inelastic cross sections, parton- parton inelastic overlap functions and the Cq moments in proton interactions from 10 to 14000 GeV. The used approach is based on a phenomenological procedure where elastic and inelastic proton observables are described in a connected way by exploring the unitarity of S- Matrix. Applying a Quantum Chromodynamics inspired eikonal model, that contains contributions of the quark-quark, quark-gluon and gluon-gluon interactions, theoretical predictions on inelastic cross sections and Cq moments are compared …
We investigate the power-suppressed corrections to the fragmentation functions of the current jet in non-singlet deep inelastic lepton-hadron scattering. The current jet is defined by selecting final-state particles in the current hemisphere in the Breit frame of reference. Our method is based on an analysis of one-loop Feynman graphs containing a massive gluon, which is equivalent to the evaluation of leading infrared renormalon contributions. We find that the leading corrections are proportional to $1/Q^2$, as in $e^+e^-$ annihilation, but their functional forms are different. We give quanti…
The nu_mu -> nu_tau oscillation hypothesis will be tested through nu_tau production of tau in underground neutrino telescopes as well as long-baseline experiments. We provide the full QCD framework for the evaluation of tau neutrino deep inelastic charged current (CC) cross sections, including next-leading-order (NLO) corrections, charm production, tau threshold, and target mass effects in the collinear approximation. We investigate the violation of the Albright-Jarlskog relations for the structure functions F_4,5 which occur only in heavy lepton (tau) scattering. Integrated CC cross sections …
We study prompt Upsilon(nS) hadroproduction (n=1,2,3) invoking the hypothesis of gluon Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energy and the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics at leading order in the strong-coupling constant alpha_s and the relative velocity v of the bound quarks. The transverse-momentum distributions of prompt Upsilon(nS)-meson production measured by the ATLAS Collaboration at the CERN LHC are fitted to obtain the color-octet nonperturbative long-distance matrix elements, which are used to predict prompt Upsilon(nS) production spectra measu…
We consider inclusive hadroproduction of jets, prompt photons, b-jets, and D-mesons in the quasi-multi-Regge-kinematics approach based on the hypothesis of gluon and quark Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energies. The data taken by the CDF and D0 Collaborations at the Fermilab Tevatron are well described without adjusting parameters. We find the main contribution to inclusive jet production to be the scattering of two Reggeized gluons, described by the effective Reggeon-Reggeon-gluon vertex, and to b-jet and D-meson production --- the scattering of a Reggeized gluon and a Reggeized…
It is shown that the hadronic dissociation of space-like $(Q^2>0)$ photons can be directly probed by performing measurements in the fragmentation region of transversely polarized and unpolarized proton beams at the electron-proton collider HERA. Measurements of momentum-distributions in the photon-fragmentation region in normal and in LRG (large rapidity gap) events are also suggested --- especially when the scattered proton or neutron in the proton-beam direction is tagged. It is pointed out that such distributions can yield useful information on the mechanisms of hadronic fragmentation in ge…
We study inclusive $b$-jet and $b\bar b$-dijet production at the CERN LHC invoking the hypothesis of gluon Reggeization in $t$-channel exchanges at high energy. The $b$-jet cross section includes contributions from open $b$-quark production and from $b$-quark production via gluon-to-bottom-pair fragmentation. The transverse-momentum distributions of inclusive $b$-jet production measured with the ATLAS detector at the CERN LHC in different rapidity ranges are calculated both within multi-Regge kinematics and quasi-multi-Regge kinematics. The $b\bar b$-dijet cross-section is calculated within qu…
We study the compatibility of the observed DAMA modulation signal with inelastic scattering of dark matter (DM) off of the $0.1\%$ Thallium (Tl) dopant in DAMA. In this work we test whether there exist regions of parameter space where the Tl interpretation gives a good fit to the most recent data from DAMA, and whether these regions are compatible with the latest constraints from other direct detection experiments. Previously, Chang et al. in 2010, had proposed the Tl interpretation of the DAMA data, and more recently (in 2019) the DAMA/LIBRA collaboration found regions in parameter space of T…
We study single jet and prompt-photon inclusive hadroproduction with multi-Regge kinematics invoking the hypothesis of parton Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energy. In this approach, the leading contributions are due to the fusion of two Reggeized gluons into a Yang-Mills gluon and the annihilation of a Reggeized quark-antiquark pair into a photon, respectively. Adopting the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin and Bluemlein prescription to derive unintegrated gluon and quark distribution functions of the proton from their collinear counterparts, for which we use the Martin-Roberts-Stirling-Thorn…
I present a calculation of the one particle deep inelastic cross section in the target fragmentation region in (ϕ^3)_6. The renormalized cross section gets a large logarithmic correction whose coefficient is precisely the scalar DGLAP kernel. The result is found to be consistent with an extended factorization hypothesis and with infrared power counting.
We consider b-jet hadroproduction in the quasi-multi-Regge-kinematics approach based on the hypothesis of gluon and quark Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energies. The preliminary data on inclusive b-jet and b anti-b-dijet production taken by the CDF Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron are well described without adjusting parameters. We find the main contribution to inclusive b-jet production to be the scattering of a Reggeized gluon and a Reggeized b-quark to a b quark, which is described by the effective Reggeon-Reggeon-quark vertex. The main contribution to b anti-b-pair prod…
Recently, the CoGeNT collaboration presented a positive signal for an annual modulation in their data set. In light of the long standing annual modulation signal in DAMA/LIBRA, we analyze the compatibility of both of these signal within the hypothesis of dark matter (DM) scattering on nuclei, taking into account existing experimental constraints. We consider the cases of elastic and inelastic scattering with either spin-dependent or spin-independent coupling to nucleons. We allow for isospin violating interactions as well as for light mediators. We find that there is some tension between the s…
The prospects to test the hypothesis of intrinsic charm quarks in the proton are investigated. We consider how this component can be directly or indirectly probed in deep inelastic scattering at HERA and in fixed target experiments and find that an overlooked signal might be present in existing NMC data. Applying the intrinsic charm model to hadron collisions we compare the resulting charm production cross-sections with those based on standard perturbative QCD and available data. Extrapolating to higher energies we obtain predictions for charm production at the Tevatron and LHC.
Our ultimate goal is the construction of a model for interactions of two nuclei in the energy range between several tens of GeV up to several TeV per nucleon in the centre-of-mass system. Such nuclear collisions are very complex, being composed of many components, and therefore some strategy is needed to construct a reliable model. The central point of our approach is the hypothesis, that the behavior of high energy interactions is universal (universality hypothesis). So, for example, the hadronization of partons in nuclear interactions follows the same rules as the one in electron-positron an…
We calculate structure functions at small $x$ both under the assumption of a hard singularity (a power behaviour $x^{-λ}, λ$ positive, for $x\rightarrow 0$) or that of a soft-Pomeron dominated behaviour, also called double scaling limit, for the singlet component. A full next to leading order (NLO) analysis is carried for the functions $F_2, F_{\rm Glue}$ and the longitudinal one $F_L$ in $ep$ scattering, and for $x F_3$ in neutrino scattering. The results of the calculations are compared with data (HERA) in the range $x\leq 0.032, 10 gev^2\leq Q^2\leq 1 500 gev^2$. We get reasonable fits, wit…
Recent results of open charm and beauty production in electron proton scattering at HERA are presented. In photoproduction, the measured cross sections for charm exceed fixed order NLO QCD calculations. Experimental evidence supports the hypothesis that a significant fraction of photoproduction events with charm can be described by resolved photon processes, where the charm quark is a constituent of the resolved photon. In deep inelastic scattering the NLO calculations give in general a fairly reasonable description of the observed charm cross sections. The measurements of the structure functi…
This report describes the transitions pion -> meson_1 + meson_2 and also pion -> multi-pion for high energy pions interacting with target nuclei (Z,A). The physics interests are: A) Nuclear inelastic coherent diffraction cross sections for pions, for studies of size fluctuations in the pion wave function. B) Radiative widths of excited meson states, for tests of vector dominance and quark models. C) Experimental determination of the pi- + rho -> pi- + gamma total reaction rate for gamma production above 0.7 GeV, needed for background studies of quark-gluon plasma formation experiments. D) Inve…
Dimuon events induced by charm-quark productions from neutrino deep inelastic scattering (DIS) processes have been studied in traditional DIS experiments for decades. The recent progress in neutrino telescopes makes it possible to search such dimuon events at energies far beyond laboratory scale. In this paper, we construct a simulation framework to calculate yields and distributions of dimuon signals in an IceCube-like km3 scale neutrino telescope. Due to experimental limitation in the resolution of double-track lateral distance, only dimuon produced outside the detector volume are considered…
