We revisit indirect detection possibilities for neutralino dark matter, emphasizing the complementary roles of different approaches. While thermally produced dark matter often requires large astrophysical "boost factors" to observe antimatter signals, the physically motivated alternative of non-thermal dark matter can naturally provide interesting signals, for example from light wino or Higgsino dark matter. After a brief review of cosmic ray propagation, we discuss signals for positrons, antiprotons, synchrotron radiation and gamma rays from wino annihilation in the galactic halo, and examine their phenomenology. For pure wino dark matter relevant to the LHC, PAMELA and GLAST should report signals.
We discuss the ${\cal O}(α_s)$ supersymmetric QCD corrections to neutralino-stop coannihilation into a top quark and a gluon in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). This particular channel can be numerically important in wide ranges of the MSSM parameter space with rather light stops. We discuss technical details such as the renormalization scheme and the phase-space slicing method with two cutoffs. We also comment on improvements with respect to earlier works on the given process. Further, we study for the first time the phenomenologically very interesting interplay of neutralino…
We present an on-shell renormalization scheme for the neutralino and chargino mass matrices for two R-parity violating models, namely bilinear R-parity violation and the munuSSM with one right-handed neutrino superfield. We discuss in both models how to obtain neutrino masses and mixing angles correctly as well as differences to the existing DRbar calculations. Both models predict correlations between neutrino mixing angles and ratios of R-parity violating decays such as neutralino_1 -> l W which can be tested for example at the LHC. We point out that there are cases where one has to include t…
We have investigated neutralino dark matter in the framework of minimal supersymmetric Standard Model focusing on the coannihilatioin region. In this region, where the particle whose mass is tightly degenerated with the neutralino dark matter exists, we can solve the Lithium problem in the case of lepton flavor being violated. It turns out that Sommerfeld enhancement is important in the coannihilation region so that the dark matter signal becomes large enough to be observed by the current sensitivity of indirect experiments.
We investigate the detectability of neutralino Dark Matter via direct and indirect searches as well as collider signatures of an $SO(10)$ model with two intermediate scales. We compare the direct Dark Matter detection cross section and the muon flux due to neutralino annihilation in the Sun that we obtain in this model with mSUGRA predictions and with the sensitivity of current and future experiments. In both cases, we find that the detectability improves as the model deviates more from mSUGRA. In order to study collider signatures, we choose two benchmark points that represent the main phenom…
We present a complete phenomenological prospectus for thermal relic neutralinos. Including Sommerfeld enhancements to relic abundance and halo annihilation calculations, we obtain direct, indirect, and collider discovery prospects for all neutralinos with mass parameters $M_1,M_2,|μ| < 4$ TeV, that freeze out to the observed dark matter abundance, with scalar superpartners decoupled. Much of the relic neutralino sector will be uncovered by the direct detection experiments Xenon1T and LZ, as well as indirect detection with CTA. We emphasize that thermal relic higgsinos will be found by next-gen…
Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model neutralino dark matter candidates in the (1-15) GeV range are found with a Markov Chain Monte Carlo scanning code. A very light, singlet-like Higgs and/or CP-odd Higgs is needed in order to achieve such light masses. Light scalar Higgses can yield large direct detection cross sections, suitable for an account of the recent claims for signals. Neutralino annihilations via resonant light pseudoscalar Higgs exchanges can overproduce the indirect yield of gamma-rays from dwarf spheroidal galaxies. Hence, direct and indirect detection experiments probe …
We compare the first results on searches for supersymmetry with the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to the current and near-term performance of experiments sensitive to neutralino dark matter. We limit our study to the particular slices of parameter space of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension to the Standard Model where CMS and ATLAS exclusion limits have been presented so far. We show where, on that parameter space, the lightest neutralino possesses a thermal relic abundance matching the value inferred by cosmological observations. We then calculate rates for, and estimate the perfo…
The discovery of a particle that could be the lightest CP-even Higgs of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) and the lack of evidence so far for supersymmetry at the LHC have many profound implications, including for the phenomenology of supersymmetric dark matter. In this study, we re-evaluate and give an update on the prospects for detecting supersymmetric neutralinos with neutrino telescopes, focussing in particular on the IceCube/DeepCore Telescope as well as on its proposed extension, PINGU. Searches for high-energy neutrinos from the Sun with IceCube probe MS…
The constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model with mu>0 supplemented by an `asymptotic' Yukawa coupling quasi-unification condition, which allows an acceptable b-quark mass, is reinvestigated. Imposing updated constraints from the cold dark matter abundance in the universe, B physics, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, and the mass mh of the lightest neutral CP-even Higgs boson, we find that the allowed parameter space is quite limited but not unnaturally small with the cold dark matter abundance suppressed only via neutralino-stau coannihilations. The lightest neutralino with mass in…
In supersymmetric models with an unbroken R-symmetry (rather than only R-parity), the neutralinos are Dirac fermions rather than Majorana. In this article, we discuss the phenomenology of neutralino dark matter in such models, including the calculation of the thermal relic abundance, and constraints and prospects for direct and indirect searches. Due to the large elastic scattering cross sections with nuclei predicted in R-symmetric models, we are forced to consider a neutralino that is predominantly bino, with very little higgsino mixing. We find a large region of parameter space in which bin…
If the lightest dark matter neutralino has a sufficiently large Higgsino component, its spin-independent and spin-dependent cross sections on nucleons can be sizable enough to be detected soon in direct and indirect surveys. We outline in this paper some characteristic features expected of mixed bino-Higgsino dark matter. If the observed relic density is saturated by the bino-Higgsino dark matter, it fixes the amount of allowable bino-Higgsino mixing and provides predictions for other observables which can be tested at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We study the correlation between the cross…
Indirect detection constraints on gamma rays (both continuum and lines) have set strong constraints on wino dark matter. By combining results from Fermi-LAT and HESS, we show that: light nonthermal wino dark matter is strongly excluded; thermal wino dark matter is allowed only if the Milky Way dark matter distribution has a significant (>~0.4 kpc) core; and for plausible NFW and Einasto distributions the entire range of wino masses from 100 GeV up to 3 TeV can be excluded. The case of light, nonthermal wino dark matter is particularly interesting in scenarios with decaying moduli that reheat t…
