Influence of DNA on Ag(I)-C-Phycocyanin complexes

The effects of DNA on the fluorescence of silver phycocyanin complexes were investigated. It was shown, that the fluorescence intensity of phycocyanin decreases, when silver ions are added but the following DNA addition gives rise to fluorescence buildup. Fluorescence spectroscopy provides insight of silver phycocyanin interactions. Fluorescence measurements demostrate phycocyanin quenching of silver emission intensities. SternVolmer quenching constant was obtained from the linear quenching plot. Blue shifts in the fluorescence spectra were observed during silver binding to phycocyanin.

Tin-DNA Complexes Investigated by Nuclear Inelastic Scattering of Synchrotron Radiation

Nuclear inelastic scattering (NIS) of synchrotron radiation has been used to investigate the dynamics of tin ions chelated by DNA. Theoretical NIS spectra have been simulated with the help of density functional theory (DFT) calculations using 12 models for different binding sites of the tin ion in (CH3)Sn(DNAPhosphate)2. The simulated spectra are compared with the measured spectrum of the tin-DNA complex.

Complexes of DNA Bases and Small Gold Clusters

DNA base-gold interactions are studied theoretically at the DFT level using Au3 and Au4 clusters as simple catalytic models for Au particles. The bonding between DNA bases and gold clusters occurs via the anchoring of a Au atom to the N or O atoms of the bases. In the most stable planar base-Au3 complexes, the Au-N or Au-O anchor bonds are reinforced by N-H...Au bonds. The mechanism of formation of these nonconventional H-bonds is discussed.

Binding Isotherms and Cooperative Effects for Metal-DNA Complexes

The stoichiometric binding constants of Nickel(II), Cobalt(II), Manganese(II), Silver(I), Zinc(II) ions with DNA, from Spirulina platensis were determined from their binding isotherms by equilibrium dialysis and atomic absorption spectroscopy. The effect of topology on the structure and free energy landscape of DNA kissing complexes

We use a recently developed coarse-grained model for DNA to study kissing complexes formed by hybridization of complementary hairpin loops. The binding of the loops is topologically constrained because their linking number must remain constant. By studying systems with linking numbers -1, 0 or 1 we show that the average number of interstrand base pairs is larger when the topology is more favourable for the right-handed wrapping of strands around each other. Inverse Temperature Dependence of Nuclear Quantum Effects in DNA Base Pairs

Despite the inherently quantum mechanical nature of hydrogen bonding, it is unclear how nuclear quantum effects (NQEs) alter the strengths of hydrogen bonds. With this in mind, we use ab initio path integral molecular dynamics to determine the absolute contribution of NQEs to the binding in DNA base pair complexes, arguably the most important hydrogen-bonded systems of all.
