A search for single top production in ep collisions using the complete high energy data from HERA is presented. This search is based on the analysis of events containing isolated leptons (electrons or muons) and missing transverse momentum PTmiss. In the absence of a signal, an upper limit on the top production cross section sigma_ep -> etX < 0.16 pb is established at the 95% confidence level, corresponding to an upper bound on the anomalous magnetic coupling kappa_tug < 0.14. The search is complemented by a search for events containing an isolated tau lepton and PTmiss and the measurement of W boson polarisation fractions.

This short write-up concentrates on possible influences HERA data can have and on the current status (and history) of beauty production from both HERA and Tevatron experiments. In general, next-to-leading order QCD gives a reasonable description of beauty production although some regions of ph…
Recent measurements of Charm and Beauty production at HERA are described. The new data include photoproduction and electroproduction of $ρ^0,ϕ,J/ψ$. The available data on elastic VM production indicate that the interaction scales as $Q^2+M_{V}^2$.
Inclusive jet production in neutral and charged current deep inelastic scattering, in photoproduction and the transition region has been studied with the ZEUS and H1 detectors at HERA. The measurements have been compared to next-to-leading-order QCD calculations which are used to make determinations of the strong coupling constant.
Measurements of vector mesons at HERA allow a detailed study of diffractive and non-diffractive production mechanisms, fragmentation and decay branching ratios. Results are presented on hadronic resonance measurements. In addition, the first observation of two meson states at masses around 1500 MeV and 1700 MeV are reported using inclusive KsKs production in deep inelastic ep scattering in ZEUS at HERA.
Experimental results on beauty production at HERA are reviewed in the context of similar measurements at other colliders. As a result of a phenomenological study of the QCD scale dependence of many different NLO and NNLO predictions, a modification of the ``default'' scale choice is advocated. Experimental constraints on the photon-quark coupling are also investigated.
Measurements of the dependence of the J/Psi production cross section on its kinematic variables as well as on the target atomic numbers for 920 GeV/c protons incident on different targets have been made with the Hera-B detector. The large collected di-lepton sample allows to study the production ratio of Psi(2S) to J/Psi and of Chic to J/Psi . We also report on measurements of the b-bbar and Upsilon production cross section.
The production of tau leptons in ep collisions is investigated using data recorded by the H1 detector at HERA in the period 1994-2000. Tau leptons are identified by detecting their decay products, using leptonic and hadronic decay modes. The cross section for the production of tau lepton pairs is measured for the first time at HERA. Furthermore, a search for events with an energetic isolated tau lepton and with large missing transverse momentum is performed. We present results from recent investigations of diffractive vector meson production using the ZEUS detector at HERA. These consist of measurements of rho production in the region of photon virtuality 0.25 < Q^2 < 0.85 GeV^2, of rho, phi, and J/psi production for values of the momentum transfer to the proton 0.3 < |t| < 4.0 GeV^2, and of elastic J/psi production both in photoproduction and for Q^2 > 2 GeV^2.
Measurements of heavy quark production, particularly from HERA, their theoretical understanding and their relevance for the LHC are reviewed. The status of beauty and charm production is discussed in the context of the different components of the production process: the parton density function of the colliding hadrons; the hard scatter; and the fragmentation of the quarks into hadrons. The theory of QCD at next-to-leading order generally describes well the hadronic structure and the production of heavy quarks although sometimes fails in details which are highlighted. The fragmentation of heavy…
H1 has measured a number of different known particles and compared their production to QCD models and to other reactions such as N-N collisions. ZEUS has also measured the production of K0SK0S pairs with a view to searching for glueballs. Several resonances are seen which are glueball candidates. The results on the masses and widths are compared to other experiments.
A search for anomalous single-top production, ep -> etX, t -> Wb, has been made with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 130 pb^-1. No evidence for top-quark production was found in either the leptonic or the hadronic decay channel of the W boson. The resulting constraints on single-top production via quark-flavour changing neutral current (FCNC) transitions exclude a substantial region in the FCNC t-u-gamma coupling not ruled out by other experiments.

Multi-electron and multi-muon production at high transverse momentum is measured in $ep$ scattering at HERA. Previous published analyses are extended, combining new HERA II data taken in 2003-2004 with previous HERA I data sample. In addition events with high $P_T$ electrons and muons are investigated here for the first time. Yields of di-lepton and tri-lepton events are measured and a general good agreement is found with the Standard Model prediction, dominated by photon-photon interactions. Events are observed with leptons of high transverse momenta in a domain where the Standard Model predi…
The production of charm and beauty quarks in ep collisions at HERA has been studied by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. Charm production is generally well described in total rate and in shape by next to leading order (NLO) calculations in perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD), although in specific phase space corners the NLO calculations underestimate the observed cross sections. More and more beauty production data are becoming available. For this process, NLO QCD predictions tend to be lower than the measurements.

The total and the differential cross sections are discussed in the framework of LO and NLO QCD predictions. The data exhibit clear evidence for boson gluon fusion dominating open heavy flavor production in the kinematic range currently explored at HERA. The measurements of F_2^{cc}(x,Q^2) at small Bjorken x are presented. The prospects for future analyses of open charm and beauty production including det…
The HERA-B experiment at DESY has acquired a data set of approximately 300,000 decays J/psi -> l+l- during its 2002/2003 data-taking period. These data are used to analyze the production of heavy quarks in proton-nucleus interactions at a center-of-mass energy of 41.6 GeV. In this article, preliminary results of two measurements are discussed, a measurement of nuclear effects in the production of J/psi mesons and a measurement of the b-bbar production cross section.
Jet and charm quark production in diffractive interactions is sensitive to the partonic structure of the diffractive exchange. The beauty contribution to the proton structure function F_2 was extracted from the double-differential cross sections.
Multi-electron and multi-muon production have been measured at high transverse momentum in electron-proton collisions at HERA.Good overall agreement is found with the Standard Model predictions, dominated by photon-photon interactions. Events are observed with a di-electron mass above 100 GeV, a domain where the Standard Model prediction is low.

Cross sections for the production of D mesons were measured and compared to NLO QCD predictions. The charm contribution to the inclusive structure function F_{2} was extracted and compared to previous measurements and theoretical predictions. The reconstruction of decays with a neutral strange hadron in the final state allowed the measurement of charm production to be extended into the low transverse momentum region. The fraction of c quarks hadronising into Lambda_{c}^{+} baryons was ex…
Heavy flavour production is one of the key components of the HERA II physics programme. While most of the results presented use leptons or the reconstruction of charmed mesons to identify heavy flavour production, both the H1 and ZEUS experiments now have working microvertex detectors that are being used more and more. In this talk I will summarise a selection of the recent results obtained by the two collaborations.
The production of $D^{*\pm}$ mesons in deep inelastic $ep$ scattering has been measured for exchanged photon virtualities $ 5<Q^2<1000 \gev^2 $, using an integrated luminosity of 363 pb$^{-1}$ with the ZEUS detector at HERA. Differential cross sections have been measured and compared to next-to-leading-order QCD calculations. The cross-sections are used to extract the charm contribution to the proton structure functions, expressed in terms of the reduced charm cross section, $σ_{\rm red}^{c\bar{c}}$. Theoretical calculations based on fits to inclusive HERA data are compared to the results.
A search for events with an isolated high-energy lepton and large missing transverse momentum has been performed with the ZEUS detector at HERA using a total integrated luminosity of 504 $\mathrm{pb}^{-1}$. The results agree well with Standard Model predictions. A recent H1 measurement of triple differential dijet cross sections in electron-proton interactions in the region of photon virtualities 2<Q2<80 GeV is presented and compared to LO and NLO QCD predictions. Effects that go beyond the fixed-order NLO QCD calculations are identified.
Diffractive production of D*+-(2010) mesons in deep inelastic scattering has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 44.3 pb-1. Diffractive charm production is identified by the presence of a large rapidity gap in the final state of events in which a D*+-(2010) meson is reconstructed in the decay channel D*+ -> (D0 -> K-pi+) pi+ (+ charge conjugate). Differential cross sections when compared with theoretical predictions indicate the importance of gluons in such diffractive interactions.
The production of neutral strange hadrons is investigated using deep-inelastic scattering events measured with the H1 detector at HERA. The measurements are made in the phase space defined by the negative four-momentum transfer squared of the photon 2 < Q^2 < 100 GeV^2 and the inelasticity 0.1 < y < 0.6. The K_s and Lambda production cross sections and their ratios are determined. K_s production is compared to the production of charged particles in the same region of phase space. The Lambda - anti-Lambda asymmetry is also measured and found to be consistent with zero. Predictions of leading or…

The measurement of the beauty quark production cross section in deep inelastic scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA is presented. The cross section for beauty quarks, measured in the kinematic range $Q^2 > 2$ GeV$^2$ and $0.05 < y < 0.7$, and for events with at least one muon and one jet in the Breit frame, is somewhat above the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD prediction, but in agreement within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties.
