We estimate the effect of leptonic CP violating phases in the minimal seesaw model with two heavy neutrinos $N$ by imposing the approximately $μ-τ$ symmetry on the model. For $N$ subject to the $μ-τ$ symmetry, we find that neutrinos show the normal mass hierarchy and obtain the general phase structure that contains only two phases which arise from $μ-τ$ symmetry breaking terms. To perform similar consideration for $N$ blind to the $μ-τ$ symmetry necessarily giving the inverted mass hierarchy, we assume the same phase structure. Our phases consist of six phases that need to take care of generic phases of flavor neutrino masses, from which one can obtain one Dirac phase and one Majorana phase as observable phases (because one neutrino is massless). The Dirac CP violating phase $δ_{CP}(=δ+ρ)$ depends on the $ν_e-ν_τ$ ($ν_e-ν_μ$) mixing phase $δ$ ($ρ$). The Majorana CP violating phase is suppressed because it depend on $ρ$, which is found to be associated with almost real quantity.
The non-unitarity effects in the leptonic flavor mixing are regarded as one of the generic features of the type-I seesaw model. Therefore, we explore these effects in the TeV-scale type-I seesaw model, and show that there exist non-trivial correlations among the non-unitarity parameters, stemming from the typical flavor structure of the low-scale seesaw model. In general, it follows from analytical discussions and numerical results that all the six non-unitarity parameters are related to three model parameters, while the widely studied parameters η_{eτ} and η_{μτ} cannot be phenomenologically …
Future experiments such as SHiP and high-intensity $e^+ e^-$ colliders will have a superb sensitivity to heavy Majorana neutrinos with masses below $M_Z$. We show that the measurement of the mixing to electrons and muons of one such state could imply the discovery of leptonic CP violation in the context of seesaw models. We quantify in the minimal model the CP discovery potential of these future experiments, and demonstrate that a 5$σ$ CL discovery of leptonic CP violation would be possible in a very significant fraction of parameter space.
We study the possibility of connecting leptonic Dirac CP phase $δ$, lightest neutrino mass and baryon asymmetry of the Universe within the framework of a model where both type I and type II seesaw mechanisms contribute to neutrino mass. Type I seesaw gives rise to Tri-Bimaximal (TBM) type neutrino mixing whereas type II seesaw acts as a correction in order to generate non-zero $θ_{13}$. We derive the most general form of type II seesaw mass matrix which can not only give rise to correct neutrino mixing angles but also can generate non-trivial value of $δ$. Considering both the cases where type…
We show that a TeV scale inverse seesaw model for neutrino masses can be realized within the framework of a supersymmetric SO(10) model consistent with gauge coupling unification and observed neutrino masses and mixing. We present our expectations for non-unitarity effects in the leptonic mixing matrix some of which are observable at future neutrino factories as well as the next generation searches for lepton flavor violating processes such as μ--> e + γ. The model has TeV scale W_R and Z' bosons which are accessible at the Large Hadron Collider.
We discuss the leptonic flavor structure generated by a brane shifted extra dimensional seesaw model with a single right handed neutrino in the bulk. In contrast to previous works, no unitarity approximation for the $3 \times 3$ submatrix has been employed. This allows to study phenomenological signatures such as lepton flavor violating decays. A strong prediction of the model, assuming CP conservation, are the ratios of flavor violating charged lepton decay and Z decay branching ratios which are correlated with the neutrino mixing angles and the neutrino mass hierarchy. Furthermore, it is pos…
The seesaw mechanism can play a key role in the generation of the leptonic mixing in unified models. We consider an unified model with a family symmetry and extended seesaw, and obtain viable fermion masses and mixing (leptonic mixing is close to tri-bi-maximal).
We address the question of deviations from $3\times 3$ unitarity of the leptonic mixing matrix showing that, contrary to conventional wisdom, one may have significant deviations from unitarity in the framework of type I seesaw mechanism. In order for this scenario to be feasible, at least one of the heavy neutrinos must have a mass at the TeV scale, while the other two may have much larger masses. We present specific examples where deviations from $3\times 3$ unitarity are sufficiently small to conform to all the present stringent experimental bounds but are sufficiently large to have the pote…
In the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with the inverse seesaw mechanism to generate neutrino masses, the lightest sneutrino may act as a feasible dark matter candidate in vast parameter space. In this case, the smallness of the leptonic unitarity violation and the recent XENON-1T experiment can limit the dark matter physics. In particular, they set upper bounds of the neutrino Yukawa couplings $λ_ν$ and $Y_ν$. We study such effects by encoding the constraints in a likelihood function and carrying out elaborated scans over the parameter space of the theory with the Nested Samplin…
We provide an $A_4$ based flavor symmetric scenario to accommodate the inverse seesaw mechanism for explaining light neutrino masses and mixing. We find that the lepton mixing, in particular the tri-bimaximal mixing pattern and its deviation through nonzero $θ_{13}$, is originated solely from the flavor structure of the lepton number violating contribution of the neutral lepton mass matrix. Here we discuss in detail how a nonzero value of $θ_{13}$ is correlated with the other parameters in the framework and its impact on the Dirac CP phase $δ$. We also analyze the non-unitarity effects on lept…
The latest measurements of the anomalous muon magnetic moment $a^{}_μ\equiv (g^{}_μ- 2)/2$ show a $4.2σ$ discrepancy between the theoretical prediction of the Standard Model and the experimental observations. In order to account for such a discrepancy, we consider a possible extension of the type-(I+II) seesaw model for neutrino mass generation with a gauged $L^{}_μ- L^{}_τ$ symmetry. By explicitly constructing an economical model with only one extra scalar singlet, we demonstrate that the gauge symmetry $U(1)^{}_{L^{}_μ- L^{}_τ}$ and its spontaneous breaking are crucially important not only f…
In this paper, we examine the leptonic flavor invariants in the minimal seesaw model (MSM), in which only two right-handed neutrino singlets are added into the Standard Model in order to accommodate tiny neutrino masses and explain cosmological matter-antimatter asymmetry via leptogenesis mechanism. For the first time, we calculate the Hilbert series (HS) for the leptonic flavor invariants in the MSM. With the HS we demonstrate that there are totally 38 basic flavor invariants, among which 18 invariants are CP-odd and the others are CP-even. Moreover, we explicitly construct these basic invari…
We show that, in the low-scale type-I seesaw model, renormalization group running of neutrino parameters may lead to significant modifications of the leptonic mixing angles in view of so-called seesaw threshold effects. Especially, we derive analytical formulas for radiative corrections to neutrino parameters in crossing the different seesaw thresholds, and show that there may exist enhancement factors efficiently boosting the renormalization group running of the leptonic mixing angles. We find that, as a result of the seesaw threshold corrections to the leptonic mixing angles, various flavor …
We propose a theory based on the $A_5$ discrete group which successfully accounts for lepton masses and mixings. In the proposed model, the neutrino masses arise from an inverse seesaw mechanism. The leptonic mixing consists in a perturbed golden ratio mixing pattern with a strong correlation arising between the leptonic mixing observables, which can be expressed as $θ_{13}$ predicting the other mixing angles and the Dirac CP phase.
We consider a model for a Z'-boson coupled only to baryon minus lepton number and hypercharge. Besides the usual right-handed neutrinos, we add a pair of fermions with a fractional lepton charge, which we therefore call leptinos. One of the leptinos is taken to be odd under an additional Z_2 charge, the other even. This allows for a natural (inverse) seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses. The odd leptino is a candidate for dark matter, but has to be resonantly annihilated by the Z'-boson or the Higgs-boson responsible for giving mass to the former. Considering collider and cosmological bounds o…
We study a CP and T violating triple (spin) correlation in the muon to electron conversion in nuclei in the context of the seesaw mechanism. After concluding that the results are negative for all three seesaw types, we turn to the left-right symmetric theories as the original source of seesaw. We find that in general this correlation is of order one which offers a hope of observing CP violation in lepton flavor violating processes for a L-R scale below around 10-30 TeV. We discuss the conditions that could render to (unlikely) conspiracies as to suppress the CP violating effects.
The new results on the muon anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) published by Fermilab in 2021, did not lead to a reduction of its long-pending deviation from the Standard Model (SM) value by more than 4$σ$. The explanation of this discrepancy by adding new particles to the theory puts many new physics models under tension when combined with the null results of the LHC direct searches for new particles. In this paper, we investigate the CP-violating Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the SM (NMSSM) with and without an inverse seesaw mechanism. We compute the one-loop supersymmetric contrib…
Assuming a minimal seesaw model with two heavy neutrinos (N), we examine effects of leptonic CP violation induced by approximate mu-tau symmetric interactions. As long as N is subject to the mu-tau symmetry, we can choose CP phases of Dirac mass terms without loss of generality in such a way that these phases arise from mu-tau symmetry breaking interactions. In the case that no phase is present in heavy neutrino mass terms, leptonic CP phases are controlled by two phases alpha and beta. The similar consideration is extended to N blind to the mu-tau symmetry. It is argued that N subject (blind)…
In supersymmetric (SUSY) extensions of the seesaw mechanism the neutrino Yukawa interaction induces the flavor and CP violating sfermion mass terms via the radiative correction. In this article we review the CP violating phenomena in the SUSY seesaw models.
We discuss the impact of fermion mass matrices on some lepton number violating processes, namely baryogenesis via leptogenesis and neutrinoless double beta decay, and on some lepton flavor violating processes, namely radiative lepton decays in supersymmetric seesaw models.
In the minimal seesaw model, we derive required constraints on Dirac neutrino masses inducing maximal CP violation in neutrino oscillations. If the maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing is further assumed, Dirac neutrino masses are uniquely determined to respect $μ$-$τ$ flavored CP symmetry for neutrinos.
We study the constraints on a minimal supersymmetric seesaw model imposed by neutrino data, charged lepton flavor violation, thermal leptogenesis and perturbativity. We show that it is possible to constrain the three heavy Majorana neutrino masses as well as the complex Yukawa coupling matrix. Our results provide a first step towards a seesaw benchmark model for further phenomenological studies and model building.
We reveal the origin of the CP violation required by the leptogenesis in variously popular seesaw models. Especially we clarify that in a pure type-I/III seesaw with two fermion singlets/triplets, a combined type-I+III seesaw with one fermion singlet and one fermion triplet, or a combined type-I/III+II seesaw with one fermion singlet/triplet and one Higgs triplet, the CP violation for the leptogenesis can exactly come from the imaginary part of the neutrino mass matrix in a special basis where the Yukawa couplings involving one fermion singlet/triplet are allowed to get rid of any CP phases. W…
If neutrino masses are obtained via the canonical seesaw mechanism, based on an underlying 2X2 mass matrix, unitarity violation of the neutrino mixing matrix is unavoidable, but its effect is extremely small. On the other hand, in the inverse (and linear) seesaw mechanisms, based on an underlying 3X3 mass matrix, it can be significant and possibly observable. This 3X3 matrix is examined in more detail, and a NEW variation (the lopsided seesaw) is proposed which has features of both mechanisms. A concrete example based on U(1)_N is discussed.
Within the framework of a $Z'$ model with non-universal leptonic couplings, we analyze possible signatures of leptonic number violation effects at LHC. Results are described for leptonic energy distributions, both from its specific signature and events number, that could allow us to observe this class of models, under reasonable conditions at LHC.
The Minimal Flavor Violation hypothesis (MFV) is extended to the R-parity violating MSSM, supplemented with a simple seesaw mechanism. The requirement of MFV is shown to suppress lepton and baryon-number violating couplings sufficiently to pass all experimental bounds, in particular those for proton decay, and is thus a viable alternative to R-parity. The phenomenological consequences for FCNC, LFV and colliders are briefly discussed. Typically, MFV predicts sizeable baryon-number violation in some characteristic channels, like single stop resonant production.
We show that direct CP violation in semi-leptonic and leptonic decays can occur in multi-Higgs doublet extensions of the electroweak standard model with flavor changing neutral currents. For pion and lepton decays these $CP$ violating effects cannot be constrained directly by experimental data since up to now the branching ratio of the decays $π^-$ and $μ^-$ have not been measured in laboratory.
We discuss a supersymmetric inverse seesaw model in which lepton flavour violating decays can be enhanced either by flavour violating slepton contributions or by the non-unitarity of the charged current mixing matrix. As an example we calculate Br(mu -> e gamma) taking into account both heavy lepton exchange as well as supersymmetric diagrams in a minimal supergravity framework. We find that the for the same parameters the rate can be enhanced with respect to seesaw model expectations, with or without supersymmetry.
We discuss a GUT realization of the supersymmetric triplet seesaw mechanism(recently proposed by us in hep-ph/0604083 and further analyzed in hep-ph/0607298) where the exchange of the heavy triplet states generates both neutrino masses and soft SUSY breaking terms.
We present a novel framework within the conformal inverse seesaw scheme allowing large lepton number violation while the neutrino mass formula is still governed by the low-scale inverse seesaw mechanism. This model includes new contributions to rare low-energy lepton number violating processes like neutrinoless double beta decay. We find that the lifetime for this rare process due to heavy sterile neutrinos can saturate current experimental limits. The characteristic collider signature of the present conformal inverse seesaw scheme includes, same-sign dilepton plus two jets and same-sign dilep…
We present an update of previous work on charged lepton flavor violation (LFV) in the seesaw model. The most recent neutrino data fits and post WMAP mSUGRA benchmark scenarios are used as input. In this framework we compare the sensitivity of rare radiative decays on the right-handed Majorana mass scale M_R with the reach in slepton-pair production at a future linear collider.
We examine the lepton-flavor violation caused by a Yukawa coupling matrix $y_{ν,ij}$ for right-handed neutrinos in the supersymmetric standard model. We stress that decay rates for $τ\rightarrowμγ$ and $μ\rightarrow eγ$ may reach the range to be accessible to near future experiments if left-right mixing terms in the slepton mass matrix are substantially large.
We discuss the minimal seesaw model for the Dirac CP violating phase of the lepton mixing matrix. We introduce two right-handed Majorana neutrinos and obtain several textures of the tri-maximal lepton mixing matrices. Moreover, we discuss the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe through the leptogenesis mechanism. As the result, we obtain the specific model which predicts the negative sign of maximal Dirac CP violating phase and normal hierarchy of neutrino masses.
We study the structure of CP violating phases in the seesaw model. We find that the $3\times 6$ MNS matrix contains six independent phases, three of which are identified as a Dirac phase and two Majorana phases in the light neutrino sector while the remaining three arise from the mixing of the light neutrinos and heavy neutrinos. We show how to determine these phases from physical observables.
We study the implications of the global $U(1)_R$ symmetry present in minimal lepton flavor violating implementations of the seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses. Our discussion is done in the context of explicit minimal type-I seesaw scenarios, where depending on the R-charge assignment different models can be constructed. We study the charged lepton flavor violating phenomenology of a concrete realization paying special attention to $μ\to eγ$ and $μ\to 3e$.
We present a Grand Unified model based on SO(10) with a Delta(27) family symmetry. Fermion masses and mixings are fitted and agree well with experimental values. An extended seesaw mechanism plays a key role in the generation of the leptonic mixing, which is approximately tri-bi-maximal.
In minimal supersymmetric seesaw models, the contribution to lepton flavour violation from Z-penguins is usually negligible. In this study, we consider the supersymmetric inverse seesaw and show that, in this case, the Z-penguin contribution dominates in several lepton flavour violating observables due to the low scale of the inverse seesaw mechanism. Among the observables considered, we find that the most constraining one is the muon to electron conversion rate which is already restricting the otherwise allowed parameter space of the model. Moreover, in this framework, the Z-penguins exhibit …
A minimal flavour violation hypothesis for leptons can be implemented essentially in two ways that are compatible with a type-I seesaw structure with three heavy singlet neutrinos $N$, and that satisfy the requirement of being predictive, in the sense that all lepton flavor violating (LFV) effects can be expressed in terms of low energy observables. The first realization is CP conserving and is based on the flavor group $SU(3)_e\times SU(3)_\ell\times O(3)_N$ (being $e$ and $\ell$ the SU(2) singlet and doublet leptons). The second realization allows for CP violation and is based on $SU(3)_e\ti…
The Minimal Lepton Flavour Violation (MLFV) framework is discussed after the recent indication for CP violation in the leptonic sector. Among the three distinct versions of MLFV, the one with degenerate right-handed neutrinos will be disfavoured, if this indication is confirmed. The predictions for leptonic radiative rare decays and muon conversion in nuclei are analysed, identifying strategies to disentangle the different MLFV scenarios. The claim that the present anomalies in the semi-leptonic $B$-meson decays can be explained within the MLFV context is critically re-examined concluding that…
We review and update the current phenomenological constraints on minimal type I seesaw extensions of the Standard Model in which New Physics content can be probed at the electroweak scale. In this class of models, the flavour structure of the neutrino Yukawa couplings is determined by the requirement of reproducing neutrino oscillation data. The strongest constraints on the seesaw parameter space are imposed by the very recent upper limit on μ --> e γ decay rate. Searches of non-standard Higgs boson decays into a light and a heavy neutrino may also provide and independent test of these seesaw …
We summarize the predictions for the radiative decays l_j->l_i γwithin the context of the supersymmetric type II seesaw mechanism considering universal boundary conditions for the soft SUSY breaking terms. The dependence on the low-energy neutrino parameters is discussed and the deviations from the analytical results for large $\tanβ$ analyzed.
Upcoming Lepton Flavour Violation experiments searching for $μ\rightarrow 3e$ and $μ$ to $ e $ conversion in nuclei processes will provide new opportunities to test the fundamental properties of the neutrino sector, and possibly the origin of matter. In recent work, it was shown that the Type II Seesaw mechanism alone can simultaneously explain the neutrino masses, Leptogenesis, and inflation. A key prediction of this model was the possibility of signals being produced in Lepton Flavour Violation decays. Searches at future experiments such as Mu3e and COMET will be integral to determining the …
In the type I + II seesaw formula the mass matrix of light neutrinos m_nu receives contributions from the exchanges of both heavy Majorana neutrinos and SU(2)_L-triplet Higgs bosons. We propose a new parameterization for the Dirac-type Yukawa coupling matrix of neutrinos in this case, which generalizes the well known Casas-Ibarra parameterization to type I + II seesaw and is useful when the triplet term in m_nu is known. Neutrino masses and mixing, lepton flavor violation in decays like mu -> e γwithin mSUGRA models and leptogenesis can then be studied within this framework. We illustrate the …
Strong correlations between leptogenesis and low energy CP violating leptonic processes have been shown by us to exist in the minimal left-right symmetric model with spontaneous CP violation. In this note, we investigate the implications of this model for the electric dipole moment of the electron. With an additional broken U(1)_H symmetry, the seesaw scale can be lowered to close to the electroweak scale. This additional symmetry also makes the connection between CP violation in quark sector to that in the lepton sector possible.
We explore generic features of the leptonic CP violation in the framework of the seesaw type I mechanism with similarity of the Dirac lepton and quarks mass matrices $m_D$. For this, we elaborate on the standard parametrization conditions which allow to simultaneously obtain the Dirac and Majorana phases. If the only origin of CP violation is the left-handed (LH) transformation which diagonalizes $m_D$ (similar to quarks), the leptonic CP violation is suppressed and the Dirac phase is close to $π$ or to $0$ with $\sin δ_{CP} \approx (\sin θ_{13}^q /\sin θ_{13}) \cos θ_{23} \sin δ_q \sim λ^2 \s…
The seesaw mechanism explains the exclusive smallness of neutrino masses by the presence of very heavy Majorana masses and leads to the appearance of Majorana particles and to the direct lepton number violation. The author proposes a seesaw scenario that produces only Dirac neutrinos with the same violation. This scenario appears possible for heavy neutrinos with non-perturbative Higgs boson H couplings. Such a scenario could be accomplished in the model describing the structure of weak mixing matrices for quarks and leptons through the existence of very heavy mirror analogs of Standard Model …
If, on one hand, the inverse seesaw is the paradigm of TeV scale seesaw mechanism, on the other it is a challenge to find scenarios capable of realizing it. In this work we propose a scenario, based on the framework of R-parity violation, that realizes minimally the supersymmetric inverse seesaw mechanism. In it the energy scale parameters involved in the mechanism are recognized as the vacuum expectation values of the scalars that compose the singlet superfields $\hat N^C$ and $\hat S$. We develop also the scalar sector of the model and show that the Higgs mass receives a new tree-level contr…
We review Lepton Flavour Violation (LFV) in the supersymmetric version of the seesaw mechanism (type I, II, III) and in Left-Right models. The LFV needed to explain neutrino masses and mixings is the only source of LFV and has experimental implications both in low-energy experiments where we search for the radiative decays of leptons, and at the LHC where we look at its imprint on the LFV decays of the sparticles and on slepton mass splittings. We discuss how this confrontation between high- and low-energy LFV observables may provide information about the underlying mechanism of LFV.
We consider the supersymmetric seesaw mechanism induced by the exchange of heavy SU(2)_W triplet states, rather than `right-handed' neutrino singlets, to generate neutrino masses. We show that in this scenario the neutrino flavour structure tested at low-energy in the atmospheric and solar neutrino experiments is directly inherited from the neutrino Yukawa couplings to the triplets. This allows us to predict the ratio of the tau --> mu gamma (or tau --> e gamma) and mu --> e gamma decay rates in terms of the low-energy neutrino parameters. Moreover, once the model is embedded in a grand unifie…
We propose simple scoto-seesaw models to account for dark matter and neutrino masses with spontaneous CP violation. This is achieved with a single horizontal $\mathcal{Z}_8$ discrete symmetry, broken to a residual $\mathcal{Z}_2$ subgroup responsible for stabilizing dark matter. CP is broken spontaneously via the complex vacuum expectation value of a scalar singlet, inducing leptonic CP-violating effects. We find that the imposed $\mathcal{Z}_8$ symmetry pushes the values of the Dirac CP phase and the lightest neutrino mass to ranges already probed by ongoing experiments, so that normal-ordere…
In terms of flavor invariants, we establish the intimate connection between leptonic CP violation in the canonical seesaw model for neutrino masses and that in the seesaw effective field theory (SEFT). For the first time, we calculate the Hilbert series and explicitly construct the primary flavor invariants in the SEFT by considering both the dimension-five Weinberg operator ${\cal O}^{αβ}_5 = \overline{\ell^{}_{α\rm L}} \widetilde{H} \widetilde{H}^{\rm T} \ell^{\rm C}_{β\rm L}$ and the dimension-six operator ${\cal O}^{αβ}_6 = \overline{\ell^{}_{α\rm L}} \widetilde{H} {\rm i} \not\!\partial \…
We propose a simplified version of the inverse seesaw model, in which only two pairs of the gauge-singlet neutrinos are introduced, to interpret the observed neutrino mass hierarchy and lepton flavor mixing at or below the TeV scale. This minimal inverse seesaw scenario (MISS) is technically natural and experimentally testable. In particular, we show that the effective parameters describing the non-unitary neutrino mixing matrix are strongly correlated in the MISS, and thus, their upper bounds can be constrained by current experimental data in a more restrictive way. The Jarlskog invariants of…
In the framework of seesaw models with only two heavy Majorana neutrinos, nonzero leptonic asymmetries can be radiatively generated when exact heavy neutrino mass degeneracy ($M_1=M_2=M$) is imposed at a scale $Λ_D > M$. For a specific case, we show that an acceptable value for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe can be obtained considering thermal leptogenesis.
Within low-scale seesaw mechanisms, such as the inverse and linear seesaw, one expects (i) potentially large lepton flavor violation (LFV) and (ii) sizeable non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI). We consider the interplay between the magnitude of non-unitarity effects in the lepton mixing matrix, and the constraints that follow from LFV searches in the laboratory. We find that NSI parameters can be sizeable, up to percent level in some cases, while LFV rates, such as that for μ-> e γ, lie within current limits, including the recent one set by the MEG collaboration. As a result the upcoming …
Leptonic CP violation is yet to be confirmed as an additional source of CP violation in fundamental interactions. We study the case where leptonic CP violation is spontaneous and is induced by the mixing with a heavy charged vector-like lepton (VLL). We show that the non-decoupling of this VLL is linked with the presence of CP violation and its coupling with the SM leptons are partly fixed from the SM Yukawas. Due to the large leptonic mixing angles, these couplings are typically of the same order and there is no flavor preference. Strong but not definitive constraints come from charged lepton…
We review some recent results on the connection between CP violation at low energies and Leptogenesis in the framework of specific flavour structures for the fundamental leptonic mass matrices with zero textures.
We study leptonic CP violation from a new perspective. For Majorana neutrinos, a new parametrization for leptonic mixing of the form $V=O_{23} O_{12} K_{a}^{i}\cdot O$ reveals interesting aspects that are less clear in the standard parametrization. We identify several important scenario-cases with mixing angles in agreement with experiment and leading to large leptonic CP violation. If neutrinos happen to be quasi-degenerate, this new parametrization might be very useful, e.g., in reducing the number of relevant parameters of models.
Several topics on CP violation in the lepton sector are reviewed. A few theoretical aspects concerning neutrino masses, leptonic mixing, and CP violation will be covered, with special emphasis on seesaw models. A discussion is provided on observable effects which are manifest in the presence of CP violation, particularly, in neutrino oscillations and neutrinoless double beta decay processes, and their possible implications in collider experiments such as the LHC. The role that leptonic CP violation may have played in the generation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe through the mechanism …
