Recent analyses have shown that a sequential fourth generation can be consistent with precision electroweak data. We consider the possibility that the new generation could be a mirror generation with $V+A$ rather than $V-A$ interactions. Specifically we consider an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with a light mirror generation (mirMSSM) . Implications of this extension are explored. One consequence is an enhancement of the tau neutrino magnetic moment by several orders of magnitude consistent with the current limits on the magnetic moment of the tau. The masses of the mirror generation arise due to electroweak symmetry breaking, and if a mirror generation exists its mass spectrum must lye below a TeV, and thus should be discovered at the LHC. Mirror particles and mirror sparticles produce many characteristic signatures which should be detectable at the LHC. Heavy higgs boson decays into mirror particles and an analysis of the forward-backward asymmetries can distinguish a mirror generation from a sequential fourth generation. The validity of the model can thus be tested at the LHC. A model of the type discussed here could arise from a more unified structure such as grand unification or strings where a mirror generation escapes the survival hypothesis, i.e., a generation and a mirror generation do not tie up to acquire a mass of size $M_{GUT}$ or $M_{string}$ due to a symmetry, and thus remain massless down to the electroweak scale.
We study an extension of the MSSM with a fourth generation of chiral matter. With this extension no value of $\tb$ allows the theory to stay perturbative up to the GUT scale. We suggest one model with extra vector-like states at the TeV scale that allows perturbativity all the way up to the GUT scale.
We present the calculation of the light neutral CP-even Higgs mass in the MSSM for a heavy SUSY spectrum by resumming enhanced terms through fourth logarithmic order (N$^3$LL), keeping terms of leading order in the top Yukawa coupling $α_t$, and NNLO in the strong coupling $α_s$. To this goal, the three-loop matching coefficient for the quartic Higgs coupling of the SM to the MSSM is derived to order $α_t^2α_s^2$ by comparing the perturbative EFT to the fixed-order expression for the Higgs mass. The new matching coefficient is made available through an updated version of the program Himalaya. …
We derive bounds on leptonic double mass insertions of the type $δ^{l}_{i4} δ^{l}_{4j}$ in four generational MSSM, using the present limits on $l_i \to l_j + γ$. Two main features distinguish the rates of these processes in MSSM4 from MSSM3 : (a) tan$β$ is restricted to be very small $\lesssim 3 $ and (b) the large masses for the fourth generation leptons. In spite of small $\tanβ$, there is an enhancement in amplitudes with $llrr$($δ_{i4}^{ll}δ_{4j}^{rr}$) type insertions which pick up the mass of the fourth generation lepton, $m_{τ'}$. We find these bounds to be at least two orders of magnit…
By assuming the existence of the sequential fourth generation to the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), we study the possibility of a strongly first-order electroweak phase transition. We find that there is a parameter region of the MSSM where the electroweak phase transition is strongly first order. In that parameter region, the mass of the lighter scalar Higgs boson is calculated to be above the experimental lower bound, and the scalar quarks of the third and the fourth generations are heavier than the corresponding quarks.
In light of recent experimental results, we present updated bounds on the lightest Higgs boson mass in the Standard Model (SM) and in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). The vacuum stability lower bound on the SM Higgs boson mass lies above the MSSM lightest Higgs boson mass upper bound for a large amount of SUSY parameter space. We postulate a fourth generation of fermions to see how the area of inconsistency changes, and discover that the MSSM is salvagable if a fourth generation is added to the MSSM (MSSM4).
We propose a model of inflation driven by minimal extension of SUSY, commonly known as MSSM. Starting from gauge invariant flat directions in the n = 4 level comprising of QQQL,QuQd,QuLe and uude, we construct the inflaton potential and employ it to investigate for its consequences around the saddle point arising from the non-vanishing fourth derivative of the original potential. To this end, we derive the expressions for the important parameters in MSSM inflation using the loop corrected potential. We further estimate the observable parameters and find them to fit well with recent observation…
We consider the effects of a fourth generation of chiral fermions within the MSSM. Such a model offers the possibility of having the lightest neutral Higgs boson significantly heavier than in the three generation MSSM. The model is highly constrained by precision electroweak data, along with Higgs searches at the Tevatron. In addition, the requirements of perturbative unitarity and direct searches for heavy quarks imply that the four generation MSSM is only consistent for tan beta ~ 1 and highly tuned 4th generation fermion masses.
One loop contributions to the CP even-CP odd Higgs boson mixings arising from contributions due to exchange of a vectorlike multiplet are computed under the Higgs boson mass constraint. The vectorlike multiplet consists of a fourth generation of quarks and a mirror generation. This sector brings in new CP phases which can be large consistent with EDM constraints. In this work we compute the contributions from the exchange of quarks and mirror quarks $t_{4L}, t_{4R}, T_{L}, T_{R}$, and their scalar partners, the squarks and the mirror squarks. The effect of their contributions to the Higgs boso…
An analysis is given of the decay $μ\to e+ γ$ in an MSSM extension with a vectorlike generation. Here mixing with the mirrors allows the possibility of this decay. The analysis is done at the one loop level with the exchange of charginos and neutralinos and of sleptons and mirror sleptons in the loops. A one loop analysis with W and Z boson exchange and mirror leptons and neutrinos is also considered. The effects of CP violating phases from the new sector on the decay $μ\to e γ$ are analyzed in detail. The constraints arising from the current upper limit on the branching ratio ${\cal{B}}(μ\to …
We explore the possibility of a fourth generation in the gauge-coupling-unified, minimal supersymmetric (MSSM) framework. We find that a sequential fourth generation (with a heavy neutrino $ν'$) can still fit, surviving all present experimental constraints, provided $λ_b(M_U)=λ_τ(M_U)$ Yukawa unification is relaxed. For the theory to remain perturbative up to $M_U$, the new leptonic generation must lie within reach of LEP-II and the new $b',t'$ must have masses within the reach of the Tevatron. For example, for $\mt>150\gev$ we find $m_{ν'},m_{τ'}< 86\gev$, $m_{t'}<178$, and $m_{b'}<156\gev$. …
The possibility of incorporating a chiral fourth generation into a SUSY-GUT is investigated. Precision fits to electroweak observables require us to introduce light supersymmetric particles, with masses less than mZ. These particles might also provide decay channels for fourth generation quarks of mass ~ 100 GeV. We also require tan(beta) to lie in the range 1.50 <~ tan(beta) <~ 1.75 and obtain an upper limit on the lightest Higgs boson mass in the MSSM4 of 152 GeV.
A fourth generation of Standard Model (SM) fermions is usually considered unlikely due to constraints from direct searches, electroweak precision measurements, and perturbative unitarity. We show that fermion mass textures consistent with all constraints may be obtained naturally in a model with four generations constructed from intersecting D6 branes on a T^6/(Z_2 x Z_2) orientifold. The Yukawa matrices of the model are rank 2, so that only the third- and fourth-generation fermions obtain masses at the trilinear level. The first two generations obtain masses via higher-order couplings and are…
The generalization of the MSSM to the case of four chiral fermion generations (4GMSSM) can lead to significant changes in the phenomenology of the otherwise familiar Higgs sector. In most of the 3GMSSM parameter space, the lighter CP-even $h$ is $\sim 115-125$ GeV and mostly Standard Model-like while $H,A,H^\pm$ are all relatively heavy. Furthermore, the ratio of Higgs vevs, $\tan β$, is relatively unconstrained. In contrast to this, in the 4GMSSM, heavy fourth generation fermion loops drive the masses of $h,H,H^\pm$ to large values while the CP-odd boson, $A$, can remain relatively light and …
In light of recent experimental results, we present updated bounds on the lightest Higgs boson mass in the Standard Model (SM) and in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). The vacuum stability lower bound on the pure SM Higgs boson mass when the SM is taken to be valid up to the Planck scale lies above the MSSM lightest Higgs boson mass upper bound for a large amount of SUSY parameter space. If the lightest Higgs boson is detected with a mass M_{H} < 134 GeV (150 GeV) for a top quark mass M_{top} = 172 GeV (179 GeV), it may indicate the existence of a fourth genera…
A recent D-brane model designed to accommodate a phenomenologically acceptable fourth generation of chiral fermions was noted to produce an unexpected additional unbroken nonanomalous U(1) gauge group at the string scale. We show that the corresponding charges acting on MSSM fields count baryon and lepton numbers. If broken spontaneously at lower scales, these U(1)_B and U(1)_L symmetries provide potential avenues for preserving baryogenesis while nonetheless explaining the suppression of proton decay (without the need for R parity), as well as the smallness of right-handed neutrino Majorana m…
We consider the Affleck-Dine mechanism for leptogenesis in the minimal MSSM with Dirac or Pseudo-Dirac neutrinos. The rolling of scalars along D-flat directions generates a left-right asymmetry in the sneutrino sector, only the left part of which is transferred to a baryon asymmetry via sphaleron transitions. In the pure Dirac case the baryon asymmetry of the Universe is thus mirrored by an equal and opposite asymmetry in the leptons. The mechanism is also found to work when the neutrinos are pseudo-Dirac. No additional field needs to be added to the MSSM other than the right-handed neutrino.
We apply a perturbative approach to evaluate the Casimir energy for a massless real scalar field in 3+1 dimensions, subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions on two surfaces. One of the surfaces is assumed to be flat, while the other corresponds to a small deformation, described by a single function $η$, of a flat mirror. The perturbative expansion is carried out up to the fourth order in the deformation $η$, and the results are applied to the calculation of the Casimir energy for corrugated mirrors in front of a plane. We also reconsider the proximity force approximation within the context of …
We present a simple solution to the little hierarchy problem in the MSSM: a vector-like fourth generation. With O(1) Yukawa couplings for the new quarks, the Higgs mass can naturally be above 114 GeV. Unlike a chiral fourth generation, a vector-like generation can solve the little hierarchy problem while remaining consistent with precision electroweak and direct production constraints, and maintaining the success of the grand unified framework. The new quarks are predicted to lie between ~ 300 - 600 GeV and will thus be discovered or ruled out at the LHC. This scenario suggests exploration of …
An analysis is given of the chromoelectric dipole moment of quarks and of the neutron in an MSSM extension where the matter sector contains an extra vectorlike generation of quarks and mirror quarks. The analysis includes contributions to the CEDM from the exchange of the $W$ and the $Z$ bosons, from the exchange of charginos and neutralinos and the gluino. Their contribution to the EDM of quarks is investigated. The interference between the MSSM sector and the new sector with vectorlike quarks is investigated. It is shown that inclusion of the vectorlike quarks can modify the quark EDMs in a …
The experimental limit on the neutron electric dipole moment is used as a possible probe of new physics beyond the standard model. Within MSSM we use the current experimental limit on the neutron EDM and possible future improvement as a probe of high scale SUSY. Quantitative analyses show that scalar masses as large as a PeV and larger could be probed in improved experiment far above the scales accessible at future colliders. We also discuss the neutron EDM as a probe of new physics models beyond MSSM. Specifically we consider an MSSM extension with a particle content including a vectorlike mu…
We calculate the rates for the charged lepton flavour violating (LFV) decays l_i -> l_j gamma, tau -> l pi, tau -> l eta('), mu^- -> e^-e^+e^-, the six three-body leptonic decays tau^- -> l_i^- l_j^+ l_k^- and the rate for mu-e conversion in nuclei in the Standard Model (SM3) extended by a fourth generation of quarks and leptons (SM4), assuming that neutrinos are Dirac particles. We also calculate branching ratios for K_L -> mu e, K_L -> pi^0 mu e, B_{d,s} -> mu e, B_{d,s} -> tau e and B_{d,s} -> tau mu. We find that the pattern of the LFV branching ratios in the SM4 differs significantly from…
We investigate the prospects for Central Exclusive Diffractive (CED) production of BSM Higgs bosons at the LHC using forward proton detectors installed at 220 m and 420 m distance around ATLAS and / or CMS. We update a previous analysis for the MSSM taking into account improvements in the theoretical calculations and the most recent exclusion bounds from the Tevatron. We extend the MSSM analysis to new benchmark scenarios that are in agreement with the cold dark matter relic abundance and other precision measurements. We analyse the exclusive production of Higgs bosons in a model with a fourth…
We search for weakly interacting fixed points in extensions of the minimally supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). Necessary conditions lead to three distinct classes of anomaly-free extensions involving either new quark singlets, new quark doublets, or a fourth generation. While interacting fixed points arise prolifically in asymptotically free theories, their existence is significantly constrained as soon as some of the non-abelian gauge sectors are infrared free. Performing a scan over $\sim 200$k different MSSM extensions using matter field multiplicities and the number of superpotential c…
An analysis is given of the decay $τ\to μ+ γ$ in MSSM extensions with a vector like generation. Here mixing with the mirrors allows the possibility of this decay. The analysis is done at one loop with the exchange of charginos and neutralinos and of sleptons and mirror sleptons in the loops. It is shown that a branching ratio ${\cal B}(τ\to μ+γ)$ in the range $4.4\times 10^{-8} -10^{-9}$ can be gotten which would be accessible to improved experiment such as at SuperB factories for this decay. The effects of CP violation on this decay are also analyzed.
An analysis of the Dirac neutrino magnetic moment with standard model interactions gives $μ_ν\sim 3 \times 10^{-19} μ_B (m_ν/1 eV)$. The observation of a significantly larger magnetic moment will provide a clear signal of new physics beyond the standard model. The current experimental limits on the neutrino magnetic moments are orders of magnitude larger than the prediction with the standard model interactions and thus its test appears out of reach. Here we give an analysis of the Dirac neutrino magnetic moments within the framework of a minimal supersymmetric standard model extension with a v…
The anomalous magnetic moment of the electron is determined experimentally with an accuracy of $2.8\times 10^{-13}$ and the uncertainty may decrease by an order of magnitude in the future. While the current data is in excellent agreement with the standard model, the possible future improvement in the error in $Δa_e= a_e^{\text{exp}}- a_e^{\text{theory}}$ has recently drawn interest in the electron anomalous magnetic moment as a possible probe of new physics beyond the standard model. In this work we give an analysis of such physics in an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model w…
Parity and time reversal are obvious and plausible candidates for fundamental symmetries of nature. Hypothesising that these symmetries exist implies the existence of a new form of matter, called mirror matter. The mirror matter theory (or exact parity model) makes four main predictions: 1) Dark matter in the form of mirror matter should exist in the Universe (i.e. mirror galaxies, stars, planets, meteoroids...), 2) Maximal ordinary neutrino - mirror neutrino oscillations if neutrinos have mass, 3) Orthopositronium should have a shorter effective lifetime than predicted by QED (in "vacuum" exp…
The existing data appears to provide hints of an underlying high scale theory. These arise from the gauge coupling unification, from the smallness of the neutrino masses, and via a non-vanishing muon anomaly. An overview of high scale models is given with a view to possible tests at the Large Hadron Collider. Specifically we discuss here some generic approaches to deciphering their signatures. We also consider an out of the box possibility of a four generation model where the fourth generation is a mirror generation rather than a sequential generation. Such a scenario can lead to some remarkab…
