We present recent CDF results based on approximately 1 fb$^{-1}$ of $p\bar p$ collisions at $\sqrt s = 1.96$ TeV delivered at Fermilab Tevatron. Results shown include the observation of the $B_s$ oscillation frequency, the first observation of bottom baryon $Σ_b^{(*)\pm}$ states, updates on $B$ hadrons lifetimes, and searches for rare decays in the $b\to sμ^+μ^-$ transition and in charmless two-body B decays.
After an introduction on the peculiarities of flavor-physics measurements at a hadron collider, and on the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF II), I show recent results on two-body B0 and B0s decays into charged, pseudo-scalar, charmless mesons or into muons, to illustrate how the flavor physics program at CDF is competitive with (in B0 decays) and complementary (in B0s decays) to B-factories. Results shown include the new measurement of the CP-violating asymmetry in B0-->K+pi- decays, the first measurement of the time-evolution of B0s-->K+K- decays, and the world best limits on the d…
The Forward Detector upgrade project at CDF is designed to enhance the capabilities for studies of diffractive physics at the Tevatron during Run II. Studies of hard diffraction and very forward physics are some of the topics that can be addressed in the next few years at the Tevatron. The program for diffractive physics, including the detectors and their commissioning, is discussed here. All the detectors have been installed and are presently collecting data.
I briefly review some of the results obtained using the CLEO-c detector
The most recent results of the top-quark mass measurements at the Tevatron at Fermilab are presented. Data were collected in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV by the CDF and D0 experiments. Top quark mass measurements in the lepton+jets, dilepton and alljet final states as well as their combination and the extraction of the mass from the cross-section measurement are presented.
We present recent results concerning the searches for light Higgs-like particles in the decay $Υ(3S) \to γA^{0}, A^{0}\to μ^{+}μ^{-}$ as well as for the lepton flavour violation in the decays $Υ(3S) \to e^{\pm}τ^{\mp},μ^{\pm}τ^{\mp}$ and $τ\to 3l (l=e,μ)$ with the BaBar experiment.
With the start of Run II at the Fermilab Tevatron a host of new physics opportunities are opened. In this paper we will review the prospects for physics at the CDF and \Dzero experiments. Topics ranging from QCD, to electro-weak precision measurements, to top-quark physics, to searches for the Higgs boson and signals of physics beyond the Standard Model will be discussed. B-Physics at the Tevatron is covered in a separate contribution to these proceedings. We will outline how upgrades to the accelerator and the detectors make these studies possible with precisions higher than ever achieved pre…
The most precise current determination of the Unitarity Triangle angle $ϕ_3$ is presented. It is obtained using the decay $B^+ \to D^{(*)} K^+$, with Dalitz plot analysis of the subsequent $D \to K_S π^+π^-$ decay. The result is $ϕ_3 = 68^\circ ^{+14^\circ}_{-15^\circ} \stat \pm 13^\circ \syst \pm 11^\circ \model$.
Selected recent results and future prospects for the CLEO-c experiment at CESR are reviewed. The topics covered include measurements of leptonic and semileptonic charm decays made with data collected at the $ψ(3770)$ resonance and results from a scan of the center-of-mass energy range from 3970 to 4260 MeV addressing the details of open-charm production and properties of the Y(4260) state observed last year by BaBar.
Ultra-peripheral collisions of relativistic heavy ions involve long-ranged electromagnetic interactions at impact parameters too large for hadronic interactions to occur. The nuclear charges are large; with the coherent enhancement, the cross sections are also large. Many types of photonuclear and purely electromagnetic interactions are possible. We present here an introduction to ultra-peripheral collisions, and present four of the most compelling physics topics. This note developed from a discussion at a workshop on ``Electromagnetic Probes of Fundamental Physics,'' in Erice, Italy, Oct. 16-…
We present recent DO results based on approximately 1 fb$^{-1}$ of $p \bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV recorded at the Fermilab Tevatron. Preliminary results on a search for the flavor changing neutral current process $D^+\to π^+μ^+μ^-$, a measurement of the CP violation parameter in $B$ mixing, $ε_B$, and a two sided limit on the $B_s$ oscillation frequency $Δm_s$ are presented. The limits on $ε_B$ and ${\cal B}(D^+\to π^+μ^+μ^-)$ are the world's best limits. The two sided bound on $Δm_s$ is the first direct indication by a single experiment that $Δm_s$ is bounded from above.
We report a sample of recent and topical physics results based on the data recorded with the Belle detector at the KEK B-factory in Japan.
We report studies in polarization in B decay into two vector mesons with data equivalent to $253 {\rm fb^{-1}}$ on $Υ(4S)$ resonance at KEKB. In $B^0 \to ϕK^{*0}$, $B^+ \to ϕK^{*+}$ and $B^+ \to ρ^+ K^{*0}$ decays, we determine $f_L = 0.45 \pm 0.05({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.02({\rm syst.})$, $f_L = 0.52 \pm 0.08({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.03({\rm syst.})$ and $f_L = 0.43 \pm 0.11({\rm stat.}) ^{+ 0.05}_{-0.02}({\rm syst.})$ respectively, where $f_L$ is a ratio between longitudinal and transverse polarization, and a naïve theoretical estimation assumes $f_L \sim 1$. The discrepancy from 1 in $f_L$ may suggest…
We present the first evidence of the decay B- --> tau- nu_tau-bar using 414 fb^-1 of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. Events are tagged by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in hadronic modes. We detect the signal with a significance of 4.2 standard deviations including systematics, and measure the branching fraction to be Br(B- --> tau- nu_tau-bar) = (1.06 +0.34-0.28(stat) +0.22-0.25(syst))*10^-4. We also report results based on 1.86 fb^-1 data collected by the Belle detector at the Upsilon(5S) resonance. Se…
With a sample of about 384 million BBbar pairs recorded with the BABAR detector, we search for the flavor-changing charged current transition B+ -> τνand perform an amplitude analysis of the effective flavor-changing neutral current transition B+ -> ϕ(1020)K*(892)+. We also extend our search for other K* final states in the decay B0 -> phi(1020)K*0 with a large K*0 -> K+pi- invariant mass. Two samples of events with one reconstructed hadronic B decay or one reconstructed semileptonic B decay are selected, and in the recoil a search for B+ -> τνis performed. We find a 2.6 sigma (3.2 sigma not i…
We search for a new light non-Standard Model CP-odd Higgs boson, $A^0$, decaying to $τ^+τ^-$, $μ^+μ^-$, and invisible in radiative decays of the $Υ(2S)$ and $Υ(3S)$. We search for the light scalar particle produced in single-photon decays of the $Υ(3S)$ resonance through the process $Υ(3S) \to γA^0, A^0 \to$ invisible. We also search for evidence of an undetectable $Υ(1S)$ decay recoiling against the dipion system. The data samples contain $99 \times 10^6 Υ(2S)$ and $122 \times 10^6 Υ(3S)$ decays collected by the \babar\ detector at the SLAC PEP-II $B$ factory.
The recent results on a number of searches performed at Tevatron for new phenomena beyond Standard Model are presented. The topics include the experimental tests of SUSY with mSUGRA and GMSB breaking scenarios. The latest analyses on large extra dimensions, new massive bosons are covered as well. The results are based on experimental data samples collected at the Tevatron with CDF and D0 detectors and comprising a total integrated luminosity up to ~2.7 fb^-1 .
We present a summary of results from studies of quantum chromodynamics at the Fermilab Tevatron collider by the CDF and the D0 experiments. These include Run II results for the time period up to the end of Summer 2014. A brief description of Run I resultsis also given. This review covers a wide spectrum of topics, and includes measurements with jet and vector boson final states in the hard (perturbative) energy regime, as well as studies of soft physics such as diffractive and elastic scatterings, underlying and minimum bias events, hadron fragmentation, and multiple parton interactions.
We present a comprehensive review of the physics results obtained by the CDF and D0 collaborations up to summer 2014, with emphasis on those achieved in the Run II of the Tevatron collider which delivered a total integrated luminosity of ~10 fb-1 at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV. The results are presented in six main physics topics: QCD, Heavy Flavor, Electroweak, Top quark, Higgs boson and searches for New Particles and Interactions. The characteristics of the accelerator, detectors, and the techniques used to achieve these results are also briefly summarized.
This paper emphasizes four topics that represent some of the year's highlights in heavy quark physics. First of all, a review is given of charm lifetime measurements and how they lead to better understanding of the mechanisms of charm decay. Secondly, the CLEO collaboration's new search for charm mixing is reported, which significantly extends the search for new physics in that sector. Thirdly, important updates in Bs mixing are summarized, which result in a new limit on the mass difference, and which further constrain the unitarity triangle. Finally, the first efforts to measure CP violation …
Neutrons study a number of hot topics from the field of particle physics and cosmology: Recent measurements of various mixed American-British-French-German-Hungarian-Japan-Russian groups of researchers determine the strength of the weak interaction of the neutron, which gives us unique information on quark-mixing and the question of unitarity. Much to our surprise, with neutron-decay we find a deviation Delta = 0.0083(28) from the unitarity condition, an effect that cannot be explained by the current Standard Model of particle physics.
The following questions are discussed: ``Why confidence intervals are a hot topic?''; ``Are confidence intervals objective?''; ``What is the usefulness of coverage?''; ``How to obtain useful information from experiment?''; ``The confidence level must be chosen independently from the knowledge of the data?''.
