Using a combined local density functional theory (LDA-DFT) and quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) dynamic cluster approximation approach, the parameter dependence of the superconducting transition temperature Tc of several single-layer hole-doped cuprate superconductors with experimentally very different Tcmax is investigated. The parameters of two different three-band Hubbard models are obtained using the LDA and the downfolding Nth-order muffin-tin orbital technique with N=0 and 1 respectively. QMC calculations on 4-site clusters show that the d-wave transition temperature Tc depends sensitively on the parameters. While the N=1 MTO basis set which reproduces all three $pdσ$ bands leads to a d-wave transition, the N=0 set which merely reproduces the LDA Fermi surface and velocities does not.
Chemical substitution, combined with strain, allows the charge-transfer energy in hole-doped cuprates to be broadly tuned. We theoretically characterize the structural and electronic properties of the family of compounds $R_2$CuO$_2$S$_2$, constructed by sulfur replacement of the apical oxygens and rare earth substitutions in the parent cuprate La$_2$CuO$_4$. Additionally, the enthalpies of formation for possible synthesis pathways are determined.
We consider the realistic case of a superconductor with a nonzero density of elastic scatterers, so that the normal state conductivity is finite. The quantum superconductor-metal (QSM) transition can then be tuned by varying either the attractive electron-electron interaction, the quenched disorder, or the applied magnetic field. We explore the consistency of the associated scaling relations, Tc ~ 1/lamda(0) ~ gap(0) ~ 1/gsi(0) ~ Hc2(0)^-0.5 and Tc(H) ~ 1/Lamda(0,H) ~ gap(0,h) ~ (Hc2(0)-H)^ 1/2, valid for all dimensions D > 2, with experimental data, in Al, C doped MgB2 and overdoped cuprates.
We have studied the oxygen-isotope effects on T_{c} and in-plane penetration depth λ_{ab}(0) in an optimally doped 3-layer cuprate Bi_{1.6}Pb_{0.4}Sr_{2}Ca_{2}Cu_{3}O_{10+y} (T_{c} \sim 107 K). We find a small oxygen-isotope effect on T_{c} (α_{O} = 0.019), and a substantial effect on λ_{ab} (0) (Δλ_{ab} (0)/λ_{ab} (0) = 2.5\pm0.5%). The present results along with the previously observed isotope effects in single-layer and double-layer cuprates indicate that the isotope exponent α_{O} in optimally doped cuprates is small while the isotope effect on the in-plane effective supercarrier mass is s…
The race to obtain a higher critical temperature (Tc) in the superconducting cuprates has been virtually suspended since it was optimized under high pressure in a hole-doped trilayer cuprate. We report the anomalous increase in Tc under high pressure for the electron-doped infinite-layer cuprate Sr0.9La0.1CuO2 in the vicinity of the antiferromagnetic critical point. By the application of a pressure of 15 GPa, Tc increases to 45 K, which is the highest temperature among the electron-doped cuprates and ensures unconventional superconductivity. We describe the electronic phase diagram of Sr1-xLax…
One of the central questions in the cuprate research is the nature of the "normal state" which develops into high temperature superconductivity (HTSC). In the normal state of hole-doped cuprates, the existence of charge density wave (CDW) is expected to shed light on the mechanism of HTSC. With evidence emerging for CDW order in the electron-doped cuprates, the CDW would be thought to be a universal phenomenon in high-$T_c$ cuprates. However, the CDW phenomena in electron-doped cuprate are quite different than those in hole-doped cuprates. Here we study the nature of the putative CDW in an ele…
Within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, the doping dependence of the electromagnetic response in the electron-doped cuprate superconductors is studied. It is shown that although there is an electron-hole asymmetry in the phase diagram, the electromagnetic response in the electron-doped cuprate superconductors is similar to that observed in the hole-doped cuprate superconductors. The superfluid density depends linearly on temperature, except for the strong deviation from the linear characteristics at the extremely low temperatures.
The phase diagram for hole-doped cuprates is discussed. By examining some recent inelastic neutron scattering data obtained on hole-doped cuprates we conclude that the coherent gap in hole-doped cuprates has most likely the magnetic origin and scales with Tc, on average, as 2Delta/kTc = 5.4.
The electronic Raman response in the electron-doped cuprate superconductors is studied based on the $t$-$t'$-$J$ model. It is shown that although the domelike shape of the doping dependent peak energy in the $B_{2g}$ symmetry is a common feature for both electron-doped and hole-doped cuprate superconductors, there are pronounced deviations from a cubic response in the $B_{1g}$ channel and a linear response in the $B_{2g}$ channel for the electron-doped case in the low energy limit. It is also shown that these pronounced deviations are mainly caused by a nonmonotonic d-wave gap in the electron-…
The asymmetry between electron and hole doping remains one of the central issues in high-temperature cuprate superconductivity, but our understanding of the electron-doped cuprates has been hampered by apparent discrepancies between the only two known families: Re2-xCexCuO4 and A1-xLaxCuO2. Here we report in situ angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements of epitaxially-stabilized films of Sr1-xLaxCuO2 synthesized by oxide molecular-beam epitaxy. Our results reveal a strong coupling between electrons and (pi,pi) antiferromagnetism that induces a Fermi surface reconstruction which p…
Using mean-field theory, we illustrate the long-range Coulomb effect on the antiferromagnetism in the electron-doped cuprates. Because of the Coulomb exchange effect, the magnitude of the effective next nearest neighbor hopping parameter increases appreciably with increasing the electron doping concentration, raising the frustration to the antiferromagnetic ordering. The Fermi surface evolution in the electron-doped cuprate Nd$_{2-x}$Ce$_x$CuO$_4$ and the doping dependence of the onset temperature of the antiferromagnetic pseudogap can be reasonably explained by the present consideration.
We have analyzed scanning tunneling spectra of two electron-doped cuprates Pr0.88LaCe0.12CuO4 (Tc = 21 K and 24 K) and compared them with tunneling spectrum of hole-doped La1.84Sr0.16CuO4 and effective electron-boson spectral function of hole-doped La1.97Sr0.03CuO4 (extracted from angle-resolved photoemission spectrum). We have also analyzed tunneling spectra and angle-resolved photoemission spectra for hole-doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8. These results unambiguously rule out magnetic pairing mechanism in both electron- and hole-doped cuprates and support polaronic/bipolaronic superconductivity in hole-d…
Using numerical diagonalization of a 4x4 cluster, we calculate on-site s, extended s and d pairing correlation functions (PCF) in an effective generalized Hubbard model for the cuprates, with nearest-neighbor correlated hopping and next nearest-neighbor hopping t'. The vertex contributions (VC) to the PCF are significantly enhanced, relative to the t-t'-U model. The behavior of the PCF and their VC, and signatures of anomalous flux quantization, indicate superconductivity in the d-wave channel for moderate doping and in the s-wave channel for high doping and small U.
We report on laser-excited angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) in the electron-doped cuprate Sm(1.85)Ce(0.15)CuO(4-d). The data show the existence of a nodal hole-pocket Fermi-surface both in the normal and superconducting states. We prove that its origin is long-range antiferromagnetism by an analysis of the coherence factors in the main and folded bands. This coexistence of long-range antiferromagnetism and superconductivity implies that electron-doped cuprates are two-Fermi-surface superconductors. The measured superconducting gap in the nodal hole-pocket is compatible with a …
We propose a model that explains the reduction of $T_c$ due to the pinning of stripes by planar impurity co-doping in cuprates. A geometrical argument about the planar fraction of carriers affected by stripe pinning leads to a a linear $T_c$ suppression as a function of impurity concentration $z$. The critical value $z_c$ for the vanishing of superconductivity is shown to scale like $T_c^2$ in the under-doped regime and becomes universal in the optimally- and over-doped regimes. Our theory agrees very well with the experimental data in single- and bi-layer cuprates co-doped with Zn, Li, Co, et…
Within the t-t'-J model, the charge asymmetry in superconductivity of hole- and electron-doped cuprates is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that superconductivity appears over a narrow range of doping in electron-doped cuprates, and the superconducting transition temperature displays the same kind of the doping controlled behavior that is observed in the hole-doped case. However, the maximum achievable superconducting transition temperature in the optimal doping in electron-doped cuprates is much lower than that of the hole-doped case due to the…
The tunneling spectra of the electron-doped cuprate Pr_2-xCe_xCuO4 as a function of doping and temperature is reported. We find that the superconducting gap, delta, shows a BCS-like temperature dependence even for extremely low carrier concentrations (studied here for the first time). Moreover, delta follows the doping dependence of Tc, in strong contrast with tunneling studies of hole-doped cuprates. From our results we conclude that there is a single superconducting energy scale in the electron-doped cuprates.
We propose a weakly coupled two-band model with $d_{x^2-y^2}$ pairing symmetry to account for the anomalous temperature dependence of superfluid density $ρ_s$ in electron-doped cuprate superconductors. This model gives a unified explanation to the presence of a upward curvature in $ρ_s$ near $T_c$ and a weak temperature dependence of $ρ_s$ in low temperatures. Our work resolves a discrepancy in the interpretation of different experimental measurements and suggests that the pairing in electron-doped cuprates has predominately $d_{x^2-y^2}$ symmetry in the whole doping range.
Within the framework of pure BCS(i.e. when the critical temperature is proportional to the Debye temperature), we show that the isotope coefficient is always less than 1/2 and could be extremely small in polyatomic superconductors depending on the chemical formula unit. This finding leads to quantitative explanation of observed values(correct orders of magnitude and sometimes exact numerical values) in optimally doped cuprates, magnesium diboride and alkali-doped fullerenes. Consequently, the smallness of the isotope coefficient is not only compatible with pure electron-phonon interaction, but…
We have studied the electronic structure of electron-doped cuprate superconductors via measurements of high-field Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations in thin films. In optimally doped Pr$_{2-x}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_{4\pmδ}$ and La$_{2-x}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_{4\pmδ}$, quantum oscillations indicate the presence of a small Fermi surface, demonstrating that electronic reconstruction is a general feature of the electron-doped cuprates, despite the location of the superconducting dome at very different doping levels. Negative high-field magnetoresistance is correlated with an anomalous low-temperature change in scatter…
We present local tunneling spectroscopy in the optimally electron-doped cuprate Sm2-xCexCuO4 x=0.15. A clear signature of the superconducting gap is observed with an amplitude ranging from place to place and from sample to sample (Delta~3.5-6meV). Another spectroscopic feature is simultaneously observed at high energy above \pm 50meV. Its energy scale and temperature evolution is found to be compatible with previous photoemission and optical experiments. If interpreted as the signature of antiferromagnetic order in the samples, these results could suggest the coexistence on the local scale of …
The effect of pressure on the magnetic penetration depth $λ$ was tested in the hole-doped superconductor YBa2Cu3O(7-d) and in the electron-doped one Sr0.9La0.1CuO2 by means of magnetization measurements. Whereas a large change of $λ$ was found in YBa2Cu3O(7-d), confirming the non-adiabatic character of the electron-phonon coupling in hole-doped superconductors, the same quantity is not affected by pressure in the electron-doped Sr0.9La0.1CuO2, suggesting a close similarity of the latter to conventional adiabatic BCS superconductors. The present results imply a remarkable difference between the…
A recent article suggested that the saturation of low energy spectral weight observed by X-ray absorption spectroscopy in the cuprates at high hole doping could be explained within the single-band Hubbard model. We show that this result is an artifact of inappropriate integration limits.
Since their experimental discovery in 1989, the electron-doped cuprate superconductors have presented both a major challenge and a major opportunity. The major challenge has been to determine whether these materials are fundamentally different from or essentially similar to their hole-doped counterparts; a major opportunity because answering this question would strongly constrain the possible explanations for what is the essential physics that leads to high temperature superconductivity in the cuprates, which is still not agreed upon. Here we argue that experimental results over the past 30 ye…
The symmetries of the order parameter (OP) responsible for pairing and the OP responsible for phase coherence in hole-doped cuprates are discussed. We analyze angle-resolved tunneling, ARPES, Raman scattering and torque measurements performed on hole-doped cuprates. We conclude that, most likely, the OP responsible for phase coherence has the d-wave symmetry whereas the OP responsible for pairing has an anisotropic s-wave symmetry.
We investigated systemically YBa2Cu3-x(Fe, Co, Al, Zn)xO7-δ (x=0.0\sim0.5) cuprates through the XRD, the test of superconductivity, oxygen contents, positron annihilation technology and simulated calculations. The experimental results and theoretic calculations support such a conclusion that the Tc does not depend directly on the density of valence electron in the samples. Moreover, whether or not it may imply some correlations between Fe-oxide superconductors and cuprates that Fe doped Y123 samples show some unique characteristics.
Stripe fluctuations in La2NiO4.17 have been studied by 139La NMR using the field and temperature dependence of the linewidth and relaxation rates. In the formation process of the stripes the NMR line intensity is maximal below 230K, starts to diminish around 140K, disappears around 50K and recovers at 4K. These results are shown to be consistent with, but completely complementary to neutron measurements, and to be generic for oxygen doped nickelates and underdoped cuprates.
Within the t-t'-J model, the electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion in doped bilayer cuprates in the normal state are discussed by considering the bilayer interaction. It is shown that the bilayer interaction splits the electron spectrum of doped bilayer cuprates into the bonding and antibonding components around the $(π,0)$ point. The differentiation between the bonding and antibonding components is essential, which leads to two main flat bands around the $(π,0)$ point below the Fermi energy. In analogy to the doped single layer cuprates, the lowest energy states in doped bilayer cupr…
We propose a possible scenario for the new metallic conductivity of underdoped and optimally doped cuprates. Charge carriers are assumed to be large polarons which form a Fermi-liquid and Cooper-like pairs below a crossover tempurature $T^{\ast}$. We use the Boltzmann equation to calculate the conductivity of self-trapped carriers and the resistivity $ρ$ as a function of temperature and doping for different cuprates. We show that various anomalies in $ρ(T)$ below $T^{\ast}$ are caused by the competing Fermi-liquid and BCS-like precursor pairing effects. Our results for $ρ$ fit well with existi…
It is proposed that the 50-70 meV dispersion anomaly (kink) in electron-doped cuprates revealed by recent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy experiments is caused by coupling with the spin fluctuation. We elaborate that the kink exists both along nodal and antinodal directions, and both in the superconducting and normal state. The renormalized effect for the density of states is also studied and the hump feature outside the superconducting coherent peak is established, consistent with recent scanning tunnelling microscopy experiments.
Within the t-t'-J model, the asymmetry of the electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion in hole-doped and electron-doped cuprates is discussed. It is shown that the quasiparticle dispersions of both hole-doped and electron-doped cuprates exhibit the flat band around the (π,0) point below the Fermi energy. The lowest energy states are located at the (π/2,π/2) point for the hole doping, while they appear at the (π,0) point in the electron-doped case due to the electron-hole asymmetry. Our results also show that the unusual behavior of the electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion is in…
We report on resistivity and Hall measurements in thin films of the electron-doped superconducting cuprate Pr$_{2-x}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_{4\pmδ}$. Comparisons between x = 0.17 samples subjected to either ion-irradiation or oxygenation demonstrate that changing the oxygen content has two separable effects: 1) a doping effect similar to that of cerium, and 2) a disorder effect. These results are consistent with prior speculations that apical oxygen removal is necessary to achieve superconductivity in this compound.
We investigate the formation of charge domain walls in an electron-doped extended Hubbard model for the superconducting cuprates. Within an unrestricted Hartree-Fock approach, extended by the introduction of slave-bosons to obtain a more proper treatment of strong correlations, we demonstrate the occurrence of stripes in the (1,1) and (1,-1) directions having one doped electron per stripe site. The different filling, direction and width of these electron-doped stripes with respect to those obtained in the hole-doped systems have interesting observable consequences, which are discussed.
There is a clear discrepancy among the energy-gap values for different 90 K cuprates, inferred from tunneling measurements. By using the phase diagram for hole-doped cuprates we show that tunneling measurements performed on 90 K cuprates, simply, detect two different energy gaps: the pairing gap and the coherent gap, which are identical in conventional superconductors. We find that there are two reasons why tunneling measurements show in one cuprate exclusively the coherent gap while, in another cuprate, they show the pairing gap: (i) the number of CuO2 planes per unit cell in the cuprate, and…
We report neutron scattering studies on single crystals of the electron-doped (n-type) superconducting cuprate Nd2-xCexCuO4 (x=0.15) with Tc = 18 K and 25 K. Unlike the hole-doped (p-type) superconducting cuprates where incommensurate magnetic fluctuations commonly exist, the n-type cuprate shows commensurate magnetic fluctuations at the tetragonal (1/2 1/2 0) reciprocal points both in the superconducting and in the normal state. A spin gap opens up when the n-type cuprate becomes superconducting, as in the optimally doped p-type La2-xSrxCuO4. The gap energy, however, increases gradually up to…
We report $^{139}$La nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on La$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$ ($0.07\leq x \leq 0.15$) and La$_{2-x}$Ba$_x$CuO$_4$ ($x=1/8$) single crystals, focusing on the spin freezing observed in 1/8-doped lanthanum cuprates. Charge stripe order seems to induce the inhomogeneous slowing down of spin fluctuations toward spin order and compete with superconductivity.
We calculate the normal state Nernst signal in the cuprates resulting from a reconstruction of the Fermi surface due to spin density wave order. An order parameter consistent with the reconstruction of the Fermi surface detected in electron-doped materials is shown to sharply enhance the Nernst signal close to optimal doping. Within a semiclassical treatment, the obtained magnitude and position of the enhanced Nernst signal agrees with Nernst measurements in electron-doped cuprates.
Impurity doping like Zn atoms in cuprates were systematically studied to provide important information on the pseudogap phase because this process substantially reduces $T_c$ without effect $T^*$. Despite many important results and advances, the normal phase of these superconductors is still subject of a great debate. We show that the observed Zn-doped data can be reproduced by constructing a nanoscale granular superconductor whose resistivity transition is achieved by Josephson coupling, what provides also a simple interpretation to the pseudogap phase.
A new electron-doped superconductor Li_x_Sr_2_CuO_2_Br_2_ with x = 0.15 has successfully been synthesized by an electrochemical Li-intercalation technique. The magnetic susceptibility shows superconductivity of bulk with the superconducting transition temperature Tc = 8 K. This compound is the first electron-doped superconducting cuprate with the K_2_NiF_4_ structure.
We present experimental data obtained by different techniques. Some of them are not easy to explain by any theoretical model presented in the literature. However, a MCS model of the superconductivity in hole-doped cuprates, proposed in our previous work, is capable to explain them. Thus, we present an evidence in favor of the MCS model.
Within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, the effect of the pressure on superconductivity in doped two-leg ladder cuprates is studied. It is shown that the superconducting transition temperature in doped two-leg ladder cuprate superconductors increases with increasing pressure in the underpressure regime, and reaches a maximum in the optimal pressure, then decreases in the overpressure regime. This domed shape of the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature is similar to that of the pressure dependence of the longitudinal part of the superconducting g…
We investigate the phase diagram of the electron-doped systems in high-Tc cuprates. We calculate the superconducting transition temperature Tc, the antiferromagnetic transition temperature TN, the NMR relaxation rate 1/T1 with the antiferromagnetic fluctuations in the fluctuation-exchange (FLEX) approximation and with the superconducting fluctuations in the self-consistent t-matrix approximation. Obtained phase diagram has common features as those in the hole-doped systems, including the antiferromagnetic state, the superconducting state and the spin gap phenomenon. Doping-dependences of TN, T…
We present phase-sensitive evidence that the electron-doped cuprates Nd1.85Ce0.15CuO4-y (NCCO) and Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4-y (PCCO) have d-wave pairing symmetry. This evidence was obtained by observing the half-flux quantum effect, using a scanning SQUID microscope, in c-axis oriented films of NCCO or PCCO epitaxially grown on tricrystal [100] SrTiO3 substrates designed to be frustrated for a d(x2-y2) order parameter. Samples with two other configurations, designed to b unfrustrated for a d-wave superconductor, do not show the half-flux quantum effect.
Within the framework of the kinetic energy driven d-wave superconductivity, the electronic structure of the electron doped cuprate superconductors is studied. It is shown that although there is an electron-hole asymmetry in the phase diagram, the electronic structure of the electron-doped cuprates in the superconducting-state is similar to that in the hole-doped case. With increasing the electron doping, the spectral weight in the $(π,0)$ point increases, while the position of the superconducting quasiparticle peak is shifted towards the Fermi energy. In analogy to the hole-doped case, the sup…
Experimental studies of the pairing state of cuprate superconductors reveal asymmetric behaviors of the hole-doped (p-type) and electron-doped (n-type) cuprates. The pairing symmetry, pseudogap phenomenon, low-energy spin excitations and the spatial homogeneity of the superconducting order parameter appear to be non-universal among the cuprates, which may be attributed to competing orders. We propose that the non-universal pseudogap and nano-scale variations in the quasiparticle spectra may be the result of a charge nematic (CN) phase stabilized by disorder in highly two-dimensional (2D) p-typ…
Using as a model the Hubbard Hamiltonian we determine various basic properties of electron-doped cuprate superconductors like ${Nd}_{2-x}{Ce}_{x}{CuO}_{4}$ and ${Pr}_{2-x}{Ce}_{x}{CuO}_{4}$ for a spin-fluctuation-induced pairing mechanism. Most importantly we find a narrow range of superconductivity and like for hole-doped cuprates $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$ - symmetry for the superconducting order parameter. The superconducting transition temperatures $T_{c}(x)$ for various electron doping concentrations $x$ are calculated to be much smaller than for hole-doped cuprates due to the different Fermi surf…
Within the t-J ladder model, superconductivity with a modified d-wave symmetry in doped two-leg ladder cuprates is investigated based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that the spin-liquid ground-state at the half-filling evolves into the superconducting ground-state upon doping. In analogy to the doping dependence of the superconducting transition temperature in the planar cuprate superconductors, the superconducting transition temperature in doped two-leg ladder cuprates increases with increasing doping in the underdoped regime, and reaches a maximum in the …
Motivated by the recent report of broken time-reversal symmetry and zero momentum magnetic scattering in underdoped cuprates, we investigate under which circumstances orbital currents circulating inside a unit cell might be stabilized in extended Hubbard models that explicitly include oxygen orbitals. Using Gutzwiller projected variational wave functions that treat on an equal footing all instabilities, we show that orbital currents indeed develop on finite clusters, and that they are stabilized in the thermodynamic limit if additional interactions, e.g. strong hybridization with apical oxygen…
We study the normal state and pairing instability in electron-doped cuprates near optimal doping. We show that the fermionic self-energy has a non-Fermi liquid form leading to peculiar frequency dependencies of the conductivity and the Raman response. We solve the pairing problem and demonstrate that T_c is determined by the curvature of the Fermi surface, and the pairing gap Δ(k,ω) is strongly non-monotonic along the Fermi surface. The normal state frequency dependencies, the value of T_c\sim10K and the k-dependence of the gap agree with the experiment.
The doping and temperature dependent conductivity of electron-doped cuprates is analysed. The variation of kinetic energy with doping is shown to imply that the materials are approximately as strongly correlated as the hole-doped materials. The optical spectrum is fit to a quasiparticle scattering model; while the model fits the optical data well, gross inconsistencies with photoemission data are found, implying the presence of a large, strongly doping dependent Landau parameter.
Inelastic Neutron Scattering (INS) data in LSCO, YBCO and Bi2212 are discussed. In the literature, the INS spectra remain far from being comprehensively understood. We show that local (Q-integrated) susceptibility data and the energy dependence of the spin susceptibility at antiferromagnetic vector, Q = (p,p), can be interpreted by using the phase diagram for hole-doped cuprates. We analyze also the origin of the resonant peak which relates to the order parameter for long-range phase coherence in hole-doped cuprates. Thus, we present an interpretation of neutron data in LSCO, YBCO and Bi2212 p…
We amend ab initio strongly-correlated band structures by taking into account the band-tailing phenomenon in doped charge-transfer Mott-Hubbard insulators. We show that the photoemission from band tails accounts for sharp "quasi-particle" peaks, rapid loss of their intensities in some directions of the Brillouin zone ("Fermi-arcs") and high-energy "waterfall" anomalies as a consequence of matrix-element effects of disorder-localised states in the charge-transfer gap of doped cuprates.
Systematic analysis of the planar resistivity, Hall effect and cotangent of the Hall angle for the electron-doped cuprates reveals underlying Fermi-liquid behavior even deep in the antiferromagnetic part of the phase diagram. The transport scattering rate exhibits a quadratic temperature dependence, and is nearly independent of doping, compound and carrier type (electrons vs. holes), and hence universal. Our analysis moreover indicates that the material-specific resistivity upturn at low temperatures and low doping has the same origin in both electron- and hole-doped cuprates.
Recent quantum oscillation measurements on underdoped cuprates are shown to be consistent with the predictions of a mean field theory of the 1/8 magnetic antiphase stripe order proposed to occur in high-$T_c$ cuprates. In particular, for intermediate values of the stripe order parameter, the magneto-transport is found to be dominated by an electron pocket.
We study charge ordered d-wave resonating valence bond states (dRVB) in the doped cuprates, and estimate the energies of these states in a generalized $t-J $ model by using a renormalized mean field theory. The long range Coulomb potential tends to modulate the charge density in favor of the charge ordered RVB state. The possible relevance to the recently observed $4 \times 4$ checkerboard patterns in tunnelling conductance in high $T_c$ cuprates is discussed.
The following letter, titled "Electron-Superconductivity in Oxides?", was submitted to Nature [Scientific Correspondence Section] on March 2, 1989, shortly after the experimental discovery of electron-doped cuprates announced in Nature on January 26, 1989. It predicted the findings recently reported in arXiv:1810.04634 by Yangmu Li, W. Tabis, Y. Tang, G. Yu, J. Jaroszynski, N. Barisic and M. Greven that "clearly point to hole-pocket-driven superconductivity in these nominally electron-doped materials", "reveal hole superconductivity in the electron-doped high-temperature superconductors" "afte…
The structure of the gap parameter ($Δ_{k}$) for the hole-doped cuprates has been studied. The obtained results indicate that the antinodal part of $Δ_{k}$ is very weakly temperature dependent and above the critical temperature ($T_{C}$), it extends into the anomalous normal state to the pseudogap temperature. On the other hand, the values of $Δ_{k}$, which are close to the nodal part, are strongly temperature dependent. The model has been tested for the ${\rm YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-δ}}$ superconductor. It has been shown that the theoretical results agree with the experimental data.
We address the issue whether the data on optical conductivity and Raman scattering in electron-doped cuprates below $T_c$ support the idea that the $d-$wave gap in these materials is non-monotonic along the Fermi surface. We calculate the conductivity and Raman intensity for elastic scattering, and find that a non-monotonic gap gives rise to several specific features in optical and Raman response functions. We argue that all these features are present in the experimental data on Nd$_{2-x}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_4$ and Pr$_{2-x}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_4$ compounds.
