In models of electroweak symmetry breaking in which the SM fermions get their masses by mixing with composite states, it is natural to expect the top quark to show properties of compositeness. We study the phenomenological viability of having a mostly composite top. The strongest constraints are shown to mainly come from one-loop contributions to the T-parameter. Nevertheless, the presence of light custodial partners weakens these bounds, allowing in certain cases for a high degree of top compositeness. We find regions in the parameter space in which the T-parameter receives moderate positive contributions, favoring the electroweak fit of this type of models. We also study the implications of having a composite top at the LHC, focusing on the process pp-> t\bar t t\bar t (b\bar b) whose cross-section is enhanced at high-energies.
We investigate the effects of top quark compositeness on various physical parameters, and obtain lower limits on the compositeness scale from electroweak precision data. We consider corrections to top quark decay rates and other physical processes. Our results depend sensitively on whether the left-handed top is composite. A considerable enhancement of $t \bar t$ production is possible if only the right-handed top is composite.
We discuss the connection between the top quark, naturalness and flavor in composite Higgs models. The phenomenological features of the top quark and the associated fermionic partners are presented. The main realizations of the flavor structure, in particular the anarchic partial compositeness scenario and its possible modifications, are also briefly reviewed.
We explore the possibility that the right-handed top quark is composite, identifying possible signatures of compositeness and how they might manifest themselves at the LHC and Tevatron. We perform a complete analysis of the dimension six modifications of the top coupling to gluons and find that cancellations among operators in the t\bar{t} rate allow for very low compositeness scales, but this can be drastically improved by looking at kinematic distributions. Turning to the LHC, we examine four top production from a dimension six four-top operator and estimate the LHC with 100 {\rm fb}^{-1} co…
We explore the possibility that the right-handed top quark is composite. We examine the consequences that compositeness would have on $t \bar{t}$ production at the Tevatron, and derive a weak constraint on the scale of compositeness of order a few hundred GeV from the $t \bar{t}$ inclusive cross section. More detailed studies of differential properties of $t \bar{t}$ production could potentially improve this limit. We find that a composite top can result in an enhancement of the $t \bar{t} t \bar{t}$ production rate at the LHC (of as much as $10^3$ compared to the Standatd Model four top rate)…
We consider the inclusive top quark distributions in $e^+e^-\to t_{L,R}+\rm{anything}$. We analyze the modifications of the basic SM contributions which would result from $t_{R}$ compositeness for example from the presence of form factors in the $t_{R}$ couplings and of an effective top mass $m_t(s)$. We also look at parton like contributions representing additional new particle production related to $t_{R}$ constituents. One observes a large sensitivity of the $t_{R}$ inclusive distribution to these various effects with specific shapes differing from those of the $t_{L}$ distribution and we s…
We revisit the impact of top partial compositeness on electroweak precision observables in the misaligned vacuum basis. We identify a new source for $S$ in the singlet mixing case, and for $S$-$T$ in the bi-doublet mixing, stemming from misalignment in the gauge couplings of the top partners. Hence, a positive shift in $T$ can be obtained in both cases, as preferred by the recent CDF measurement of the $W$ mass. These results, obtained for the minimal fundamental coset SU(4)/Sp(4), apply to any composite Higgs model with top partial compositeness.
In theories of Partial Compositeness the top quark is a mixture of a composite and an elementary state, and as a consequence its interactions with gauge bosons are expected to deviate from those of a point-like object. At sufficiently large energies, such deviations cannot be parametrized by the leading effective field theory operators and form factors (i.e. energy dependent interactions) must be introduced. In this work, we argue that such effects might appear at relatively low energies with interesting phenomenological consequences. In analogy to the proton electromagnetic interactions, we d…
If the top quark is a composite state made out of some constituents, its interaction with the gluon will be modified. We introduce the leading effective operators that contribute to the radius and anomalous magnetic moment of the top quark and study their effect on the cross section for top anti-top production at the Tevatron and the LHC. Current measurements of the cross sections set a stringent limit on the scale of compositeness. This limit is comparable to similar limits obtained for light quarks and those from electroweak precision measurements. It can be used to constrain the parameter s…
Strong gauge and top-Yukawa couplings predicted in the presence of extra dimensions lead to a trickle-down effect of the top-coupling through the renormalization group equations for the quark Yukawa matrices. The matrix elements for the u and d-quarks get progressively smaller as one moves away from the dominant (33)-element revealing a hierarchical pattern for the mass matrices.
The radial excitation of the global symmetry-breaking vacuum in composite Higgs models, called the "global Higgs", has been recently a focus of investigation. In this paper we study the prospects for detecting this composite scalar at the 13 TeV LHC. We compute the global Higgs production rates and estimate the discovery potential of a global Higgs decaying into top quark pairs and into Higgs and electroweak gauge bosons with subsequent hadronic decays. The global Higgs may also decay into fermion resonances such as top partners, providing a new window into compositeness. We show that top part…
We should be taking advantage of recent gains in our nonperturbative understanding of supersymmetric gauge theories to find the ``standard'' model of of dynamical supersymmetry breaking, and possibly of flavor as well. As an illustration of the possibilities for understanding the flavor hierarchy, I describe a realistic, renormalizable, supersymmetric model with a compositeness scale of $\sim 1-3$ TeV for the top quark, the left handed bottom quark, and the up-type Higgs. The top-Higgs Yukawa coupling is a dynamically generated strong interaction effect, and is naturally large, while the other…
We present a model of partial compositeness arising as the IR limit of a SU(4) gauge theory with only fermionic matter. This group is one of the most promising ones among a handful of possible choices allowing a symmetry breaking pattern incorporating custodial symmetry and a top partner candidate, while retaining asymptotic freedom. It is favored for not giving rise to lepto-quarks or Landau poles in the SM gauge couplings. The minimal UV theory consists of five hyperfermions in the anti-symmetric representation and three in the fundamental and anti-fundamental. The IR theory is centered arou…
The ``preon-trinity'' model for the compositeness of leptons, quarks and heavy vector bosons predicts several new heavy leptons and quarks. Three of them can be produced in $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilations at CERN LEP energies, since they can be created out of a system of three preons and their antipreons, where three preons form a heavy lepton or quark, while the other three go into a normal lepton or quark. In fact, these new particles are predicted to be lighter than the top quark, while the top itself cannot be produced this way, due to its particular preon substructure. The empirical situation …
The top quark can be naturally singled out from other fermions in the Standard Model due to its large mass, of the order of the electroweak scale. We follow this reasoning in models of pseudo Nambu Goldstone Boson composite Higgs, which may derive from an underlying confining dynamics. We consider a new class of flavour models, where the top quark obtains its mass via partial compositeness, while the lighter fermions acquire their masses by a deformation of the dynamics generated at a high flavour scale. One interesting feature of such scenario is that it can avoid all the flavour constraints …
Partial top quark compositeness is a crucial aspect of theories with strong electroweak symmetry breaking. Together with the heavy top partners that lift the top quark mass to its observed value, these theories predict correlated modifications of the top quark's electroweak couplings. Associated measurements therefore provide direct constraints on the ultraviolet structure of the underlying hypercolour dynamics. In this paper we employ a minimal version of top compositeness to discuss how measurements related to the top's electroweak gauge interactions can inform the potential composite nature…
The unified compositeness of leptons, quarks and Higgs bosons is proposed as a possible scenario for New Physics beyond the Standard Model. The following topics of the scenario are briefly discussed: - Chiral gauge exceptional symmetry E_6 as a strong internal binding mechanism; - Higgs doublet as a composite Goldstone boson; - Nonlinear Standard Model as a prototype ``low energy'' effective field theory of the unified compositeness; - Hidden local symmetry and an improved ``low energy'' effective field theory of the unified compositeness; - Heavy composite vector bosons and vector boson domin…
The evolution of Standard Model gauge couplings is studied in a non-supersymmetric scenario in which the hierarchy problem is resolved by Higgs compositeness above the weak scale. It is argued that massiveness of the top quark combined with precision tests of the bottom quark imply that the right-handed top must also be composite. If, further, the Standard Model gauge symmetry is embedded into a simple subgroup of the unbroken composite-sector flavor symmetry, then precision coupling unification is shown to occur at~10^{15} GeV, to a degree comparable to supersymmetric unification.
Composite Higgs Models are often constructed including fermionic top partners with a mass around the TeV scale, with the top partners playing the role of stabilizing the Higgs potential and enforcing partial compositeness for the top quark. A class of models of this kind can be formulated in terms of fermionic strongly coupled gauge theories. A common feature they all share is the presence of specific additional scalar resonances, namely two neutral singlets and a colored octet, described by a simple effective Lagrangian. We study the phenomenology of these scalars, both in a model independent…
The fundamental Higgs doublet may be replaced in the Standard Model by certain non-perturbative four-quark interactions, whose effect is to induce a composite Higgs sector responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking. A simple composite two-Higgs-doublet model is presented. The four-quark interactions arise naturally if there are either extra spatial dimensions or larger gauge symmetries at a multi-TeV scale. Some theoretical and phenomenological implications of these scenarios are discussed.
Composite Higgs and neutral-naturalness models are popular scenarios in which the Higgs boson is a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson, and naturalness problem is addressed by composite top partners. Since the standard model effective field theory (SMEFT) with dimension-six operators cannot fully retain the information of Higgs nonlinearity due to its PNGB nature, we systematically construct low energy Lagrangian in which the information of compositeness and Higgs nonlinearity are encoded in the form factors, the two-point functions in the top sector. We classify naturalness conditions in various sce…
We consider a theory with composite top quarks but an elementary Higgs boson. The hierarchy problem can be solved by supplementing TeV scale top compositeness with either supersymmetry or Higgs compositeness appearing at the multi-TeV scale. The Higgs boson couples to uncolored partons within the top quark. We study how this approach can give rise to a novel screening effect that suppresses production of the colored top partners at the LHC. Strong constraints arise from Z to bb, as well potentially from flavor physics. Independent of flavor considerations, current constraints imply a composite…
Motivated by the possibility that the right-handed top-quark (t_R) is composite, we discuss the effects of dimension-six operators on the Higgs boson production at the LHC. When t_R is the only composite particle among the Standard Model (SM) particles, the (V+A)\otimes (V+A) type four-top-quark contact interaction is expected to have the largest coefficient among the dimension-six operators, according to the Naive Dimensional Analysis (NDA). We find that, to lowest order in QCD and other SM interactions, the cross section of the SM Higgs boson production via gluon fusion does not receive corr…
In composite Higgs (CH) models, large mixings between the top quark and the new strongly interacting sector are required to generate its sizeable Yukawa coupling. Precise measurements involving top as well as left-handed bottom quarks therefore offer an interesting opportunity to probe such new physics scenarios. We study the impact of third-generation-quark pair production at future lepton colliders, translating prospective effective-field-theory sensitivities into the CH parameter space. Our results show that one can probe a significant fraction of the natural CH parameter space through the …
This note is an attempt to interpret some excesses, not yet significant due to systematics, observed by ATLAS and CMS in various analyses related to the standard channels ttH, ttZ and ttW. It is argued, within a composite interpretation of top particles, that such excesses are not necessarily related to these channels themselves, although this is not excluded, but due to the underlying presence of either vector-like heavy quarks tprime, bprime or to final states as predicted in composite theories. The outcome of this discussion is that although it will not be easy to reach an exclusive interpre…
The possibility that the mass hierarchy is intimately associated with the compositeness level of the matters is proposed in supersymmetric gauge theory. This implies, for instance, that the preons constituting top quark consists of the ``prepreons'' binded by the same gauge force making the charm quark out of another preons. The exemplifying toy model illustrates how the hierarchy in the yukawa coupling constants in the up-quark sector is generated from the underlying gauge dynamics. It is also indicated that the incorporation of down-type quarks as elementary objects leads to unpleasant resul…
Composite Higgs models, together with partial compositeness, predict the existence of new scalars and vector-like quarks (partners) at and above the TeV scale. Generically, the presence of these additional scalars opens up new decay topologies for the partners. In this paper we show how to systematically construct the general low energy Lagrangian to capture this feature. We emphasize the specific pattern in the top-partner spectrum arising in this class of models. We then present a concrete realization in the context of the SU(5)/SO(5) coset. We show that the top-partners in this model can ha…
Partial compositeness is a mechanism for the generation of fermion masses which replaces a direct Higgs coupling to the fermions by a linear mixing with heavy composite partners. We present the first calculation of the relevant matrix element in a lattice model which is very close to a candidate theory containing a composite Higgs boson and a partially composite top quark. Specifically, our model is an SU(4) gauge theory coupled to dynamical fermions in the fundamental and two-index antisymmetric (sextet) representations. The matrix element we obtain is small and hence our result disfavors the…
We continue our investigation of gauge theories in which the Higgs boson arises as a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson (pNGB) and top-partners arise as bound states of three hyperfermions. All models have additional pNGBs in their spectrum that should be accessible at LHC. We analyze the patterns of symmetry breaking and present all relevant couplings of the pNGBs with the gauge fields. We discuss how vacuum misalignment and a mass for the pNGBs is generated by a loop-induced potential. Finally, we paint a very broad, qualitative, picture of the kind of experimental signatures these models give ris…
We study the modifications of the amplitudes and cross sections of several processes, especially $e^+e^- \to t\bar t H, t\bar t Z, t\bar b W$, generated by Higgs boson and top quark compositeness, in particular within the CSM concept. We illustrate the observable differences that may appear between various, CSM conserving or CSM violating, compositeness possibilities.
Within composite Higgs models based on the top seesaw mechanism, we show that the Higgs field can arise as the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson of the broken U(3)_L chiral symmetry associated with a vector-like quark and the t-b doublet. As a result, the lightest CP-even neutral state of the composite scalar sector is lighter than the top quark, and can be identified as the newly discovered Higgs boson. Constraints on weak isospin violation push the chiral symmetry breaking scale above a few TeV, implying that other composite scalars are probably too heavy to be probed at the LHC, but may be withi…
We describe our recent lattice study of SU(4) gauge theory with fermions in the fundamental and sextet representations. In this theory, a new type of baryon consists of quarks in both representations. The spectrum of these "chimera baryons" has a straightforward interpretation in terms of a non-relativistic quark model based on SU(4). Our results are particularly relevant to composite Higgs models in which the top quark is partially composite.
We show that the measurement of the $Z$ polarization in the $e^+e^-\to t\bar t Z$ process would allow an interesting determination of the role of the top quark mass. This can be used for testing the possibility of top compositeness or of the occurence of final state interactions related to the mass generation in particular the interaction with dark matter.
We describe a realistic, renormalizable, supersymmetric ``quindecuplet'' model in which the top quark, left handed bottom quark, and up-type Higgs boson are composite, with a compositeness scale $\sim 1-3$ TeV. The top-Higgs Yukawa coupling is a dynamically generated strong interaction effect, and is naturally much larger than any other Yukawa coupling. The light quark doublets and right-handed up-type quarks are also composite but at higher energies; the hierarchy of quark masses and mixings is due to a hierarchy in the compositeness scales. Flavor changing neutral currents are naturally supp…
We propose a new mechanism to generate the couplings of the top quark to a composite Goldstone Higgs, which we dub {\it Global Extended Technicolor} (GETC). Top, techni-fermions and spin-1 mediators arise as bound states of a tumbling chiral gauge theory. We propose a simple model based on a tumbling $SU(4)$ dynamics, which predicts partial compositeness for the top and an $SU(3)$ model with 6 Dirac flavours for the low-energy composite Higgs. Neutron decay bounds require the new dynamics to confine above $10^{6÷7}$ TeV. A simple extension of the basic model allows to generate partial composit…
We study more deeply the sensitivity of the $ZH$ production process in gluon-gluon collisions to the details of a possible Higgs and top quark compositeness. We establish a relation between Higgs and top quark form factors which would keep the basic cancellation appearing in SM and satisfy the concept of CSM. We give illustrations showing the spectacular consequences of various choices preserving or violating this CSM constraint.
We propose a scale invariant model of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking via top condensation within the minimal top condensate see-saw model. The classical scale invariance is realized nonlinearly by introducing conformal compensator scalar field, the dilaton, which plays crucial role in successful predictions for the Higgs boson. The dilaton mass and its mixing with the composite Higgs boson appears only at 2-loop level, both being proportional to the hierarchy between the electroweak and compositeness scales, $\propto v/Λ$. The mass scales in our model are generated via the mechanism o…
We show that the presence of a lightish scalar resonance, $σ$, that mixes with the composite Goldstone-Higgs boson can relax the typical bounds found in this class of models. This mechanism, inbred in models with a walking dynamics above the condensation scale, allows for a low compositeness scale $f \gtrsim 400$ GeV, corresponding to a misalignment angle $\sinθ\lesssim 0.6$, contrary to the common lore of a smaller angle. According to recent lattice results, the light $σ$ emerges thanks to a near-conformal phase above the condensation scale, consistent to the requirements from flavour physics…
Models of compositeness can successfully address the origin of the Higgs boson, as a pseudo Nambu Goldstone boson (pNGB) of a spontaneously broken global symmetry, and flavour physics via the partial compositeness mechanism. If the dynamics is generated by a confining gauge group with fermionic matter content, there exists only a finite set of models that have the correct properties to account for the Higgs and top partners at the same time. In this letter we explore the theory space of this class of models: remarkably, all of them contain - beyond the pNGB Higgs - a pNGB singlet, $a$, which c…
Composite Higgs models can be extended to the Planck scale by means of the partially unified partial compositeness (PUPC) framework. We present in detail the Techni-Pati-Salam model, based on a renormalizable gauge theory $SU(8)_{PS}\times SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$. We demonstrate that masses and mixings for all generations of standard model fermions can be obtained via partial compositeness at low energy, with four-fermion operators mediated by either heavy gauge bosons or scalars. The strong dynamics is predicted to be that of a confining $Sp(4)_{\rm HC}$ gauge group, with hyper-fermions in the…
An important ingredient of many composite-Higgs scenarios is partial compositeness: a mass for the top quark is generated via mixing with baryonic operators of the same new strong dynamics that produces the composite Higgs particle. These baryonic operators are scale dependent. We construct these operators, and calculate their one-loop anomalous dimension, in a set of ultraviolet completions of the Standard Model proposed by Ferretti and Karateev.
We test the sensitivity of a future e+e- collider to composite Higgs scenarios encompassing partial compositeness. Besides the detailed study of the Higgs properties, such a machine will have a rich top-quark physics programme mainly in two domains: top property accurate determination at the $t \bar t$ production threshold and search for New Physics with top quarks above it. In both domains, a composite Higgs scenario can manifest itself via sizable deviations in both cross-section and asymmetry observables. Herein we discuss such a possibility using a particular realisation, namely the 4-Dime…
We assess current experimental constraints on the bi-doublet + singlet model of top compositeness previously proposed in the literature. This model extends the standard model's spectrum by adding a custodially-embedded vector-like electroweak bi-doublet of quarks and a vector-like electroweak singlet quark. While either of those states alone would produce a model in tension with constraints from precision electroweak data, in combination they can produce a viable model. We show that current precision electroweak data, in the wake of the Higgs discovery, accommodate the model and we explore the…
We present a model of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking in which the splitting between the top and bottom quark masses arises naturally. The W and Z masses are produced by a minimal technicolor sector, the top quark mass is given by the exchange of a weak-doublet technicolored scalar, and the other quark and lepton masses are induced by the exchange of a weak-doublet technicolor-singlet scalar. We show that, in the presence of the latter scalar, the vacuum alignment is correct even in the case of SU(2) technicolor. The fit of this model to the electroweak data gives an acceptable agreeme…
We analyze quantitatively the tuning of composite Higgs models with partial compositeness and its interplay with the predicted Higgs mass. In this respect we identify three classes of models, characterized by different quantum numbers of the fermionic colored resonances associated with the top quark, the so-called top partners. The main result of this classification is that in all models with moderate tuning a light Higgs, of 125 GeV mass, requires the presence of light top partners, around 1 TeV. The minimal tuning is comparable to the one of the most attractive supersymmetric models in parti…
In this paper we consider the effects of top quark compositeness on the electroweak parameters T-hat and S-hat and the Zbb coupling. We do so by using an effective field theory analysis to identify several promising patterns of mixing between standard model like and vector fermions, and then analyzing simple extensions of the Standard Model that realize those patterns. These models illustrate four ways in which an extended O(4) symmetry, which controls the size of radiative corrections to the observables discussed, may be broken. These models may also be viewed as highly-deconstructed versions…
We investigate how adding a scalar resonance of a mass 125 GeV affects the low-energy data support for the top-BESS model as well as its low-energy free parameter limits. The top-BESS model is an effective Lagrangian, a modification of the well-known BESS model, with an ambition to describe phenomenology of the lowest bound states of strongly-interacting theories beyond the Standard model. In particular, the SU(2)_{L+R} vector resonance triplet of hypothetical bound states is a centerpiece of BESS-like effective models. The top-BESS model assumes that the triplet couples directly to the third …
I discuss the properties of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, in the case in which there is a dynamical breakdown of the electroweak symmetry induced by the formation of condensates of the third generation of quarks and their supersymmetric partners. The top quark and Higgs mass predictions derived within this scheme are essentially equivalent to those ones obtained from the requirement of bottom-tau Yukawa coupling unification in a supersymmetric grand unified scenario, if the compositeness scale is identified with the grand unification scale. I give an explanation o…
We look for possible (partial) compositeness properties of the bottom quark according to the Composite Standard Model (CSM) concept in the same way this was previously done for Higgs boson and top quark. After looking at the direct form factor effects appearing in $e^+e^-\to b\bar b$ we analyze the more complex features of the $e^+e^-, gg, γγ\to b\bar b H, b\bar b Z, t\bar b W^-$ processes. We emphasize typical differences appearing between CSM concerving and CSM violating cases. We also mention the possible appearence of an effective bottom mass.
The forward LHCb acceptance opens interesting possibilities of studying precision Standard Model hard processes in a kinematical region beyond the reach of ATLAS and CMS. In this paper we perform a feasibility study for cross-section measurements of top quark pairs with the LHCb detector, with an analysis of signal and background rates for selected final states, and determine the potential precision achievable at $\sqrt{s} =$ 7 and 14~TeV. We then study the dependence of theoretical uncertainties on the pseudorapidity distribution of top quarks produced in pair production at NLO, and observe t…
In composite Higgs models with partial compositeness, the small value of the observed Higgs mass implies the existence of light fermionic resonances, the top partners, whose quantum numbers are determined by the symmetry (and symmetry breaking) structure of the theory. Here we study light top partners with electric charge 8/3, which are predicted, for instance, in some of the most natural composite Higgs realizations. We recast data from two same sign lepton searches and from searches for microscopic blackholes into a bound on its mass, M8/3 > 940 GeV. Furthermore, we compare potential reach o…
We repurpose the recent ATLAS search for same-sign top quarks in data with 1.0 fb$^{-1}$ in the context of a search for production of four top quarks. Using the null results of that search, we place limits on the four-top-quark production cross section of about 1 pb. These limits are larger than the expected Standard Model rate for four-top-quark production, but are already strong enough to place interesting constraints on models which enhance that rate. We interpret these results in the context of models in which the right-handed top quark is composite and find limits on the compositeness sca…
We use top quark pair production as a probe of top-philic non-resonant new physics. Following a low energy effective field theory approach, we calculate several key observables in top quark pair production at hadron colliders (e.g., total cross section, ttbar invariant mass distribution, forward-backward asymmetry, spin correlations) including the interference of the Standard Model with dimension-six operators. We determine the LHC reach in probing new physics after having taken into account the Tevatron constraints. In particular, we show that the gluon fusion process gg -> ttbar which remain…
We study under which conditions a scalar particle is a viable WIMP Dark Matter candidate with Higgs and dilaton interactions. The theory is a composite Higgs model with top partial compositeness where both the Higgs and the Dark Matter candidate arise as pseudo Goldstone boson of the coset SO(6)/SO(5) from a new physics sector. We highlight the role of the dilaton in direct and indirect searches. We find that a Dark Matter particle with a mass around 200-400 GeV and a relatively light dilaton are a fair prediction of the model.
We study previously introduced models of pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson Higgs from linearly realized minimal coset SO(5)/SO(4) and matter in the fundamental in supersymmetric theories. Partial compositeness is at work for top and electroweak gauge fields. New states potentially relevant for LHC signatures are identified and we show how to reinterpret existing experimental results as exclusion bounds. The lightest colored particles, with a mass below the TeV, are fermionic and scalars top partners. We outline a viable mechanism originating masses of other Standard Model quarks: they result from t…
We study the fusion processes $W^-W^+\to t\bar t$ and $ZZ\to t\bar t$ observable at a future $e^-e^+$ collider and we discuss their sensitivity to an $Htt$ form factor which may be due to compositeness, in particular when the $H$ and the top quark have common constituents. We make an amplitude analysis and illustrate which helicity amplitudes and cross sections for specific final $t\bar t$ polarizations are especially sensitive to this form factor.
We perform a study of the LHC discovery reach on a heavy gluon (G*) and heavy fermions (top and bottom excitations), coming from a new composite sector. We find that heavy fermion resonances have a great impact on the composite gluon phenomenology. If the composite gluon is heavier than composite fermions, as flavor observables seem to suggest, the search in the channel where G* decays into a heavy fermion plus its Standard Model partner is very promising, with the possibility for both the G* and heavy fermions to be discovered at the early stage of the LHC. The channel offers also the possibi…
We study the dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking (DEWSB) in the $D (=6,8,...)$-dimensional bulk with compactified extra dimensions. We identify the critical binding strength for triggering the DEWSB, based on the ladder Schwinger-Dyson equation. In the top mode standard model with extra dimensions, where the standard model gauge bosons and the third generation of quarks and leptons are put in the bulk, we analyze the most attractive channel (MAC) by using renormalization group equations (RGEs) of (dimensionless) bulk gauge couplings and determine the effective cutoff where the MAC coupling…
We have calculated quantities of interest to a theory of compositeness. The lattice model, approximating the candidate theory, is the SU(4) gauge theory coupled to fermions in two color representations. For the composite Higgs, a current correlator gives one of the ingredients of the effective Higgs potential. For the partially composite top quark, we have hyperbaryon matrix elements that govern mixing of the fundamental quark with its heavy composite partner. The matrix elements turn out to be so small that the theory is disfavored as a source of a realistic top mass.
