Periodic and solitary travelling-wave solutions of an extended reduced Ostrovsky equation are investigated. Attention is restricted to solutions that, for the appropriate choice of certain constant parameters, reduce to solutions of the reduced Ostrovsky equation. It is shown how the nature of the waves may be categorized in a simple way by considering the value of a certain single combination of constant parameters. The periodic waves may be smooth humps, cuspons, loops or parabolic corner waves. The latter are shown to be the maximum-amplitude limit of a one-parameter family of periodic smooth-hump waves. The solitary waves may be a smooth hump, a cuspon, a loop or a parabolic wave with compact support. All the solutions are expressed in parametric form. Only in one circumstance can the variable parameter be eliminated to give a solution in explicit form. In this case the resulting waves are either a solitary parabolic wave with compact support or the corresponding periodic corner waves.
Periodic travelling waves are considered in the class of reduced Ostrovsky equations that describe low-frequency internal waves in the presence of rotation. The reduced Ostrovsky equations with either quadratic or cubic nonlinearities can be transformed to integrable equations of the Klein--Gordon type by means of a change of coordinates. By using the conserved momentum and energy as well as an additional conserved quantity due to integrability, we prove that small-amplitude periodic waves are orbitally stable with respect to subharmonic perturbations, with period equal to an integer multiple …
We obtain a travelling-wave solution of a generalised nonlinear Schrödinger equation with an additional term of the form $Γ(ψ(x,t)) = λψ(x,t)^q$, where $λ$ and $q$ are real constants. Moreover, we show that the density of energy of the system for the travelling-wave solution presents a Lorentzian solitary wave behaviour.
New travelling wave solutions to the Fornberg-Whitham equation are investigated. They are characterized by two parameters. The expresssions for the periodic and solitary wave solutions are obtained.
In the present study we consider three two-component (integrable and non-integrable) systems which describe the propagation of shallow water waves on a constant shear current. Namely, we consider the two-component Camassa-Holm equations, the Zakharov-Ito system and the Kaup--Boussinesq equations all including constant vorticity effects. We analyze both solitary and periodic-type travelling waves using the simple and geometrically intuitive phase space analysis. We get the pulse-type solitary wave solutions and the front solitary wave solutions. For the Zakharov-Ito system we underline the occu…
In this paper, we employ the bifurcation theory of planar dynamical systems to investigate the travelling-wave solutions to a dual equation of the Kaup-Boussinesq system. The expressions for smooth solitary-wave solutions are obtained.
The possible solitary wave solutions for a general Boussinesq (GBQ) type fluid model are studied analytically. After proving the non-Painlevé integrability of the model, the first type of exact explicit travelling solitary wave with a special velocity selection is found by the truncated Painlevé expansion. The general solitary waves with different travelling velocities can be studied by casting the problems to the Newtonian quasi-particles moving in some proper one dimensional potential fields. For some special velocity selections, the solitary waves possess different shapes, say, the left mov…
For the generalized $p$-power Korteweg-de Vries equation, all non-periodic travelling wave solutions with non-zero boundary conditions are explicitly classified for all integer powers $p\geq 1$. These solutions are shown to consist of: bright solitary waves and static humps on a non-zero background for odd $p$; dark solitary waves on a non-zero background and kink waves for even $p$ in the defocusing case; pairs of bright/dark solitary waves on a non-zero background, and also bright and dark heavy-tail waves (with power decay) on a non-zero background, for even $p$ in the focusing case. An exp…
Travelling waves and conservation laws are studied for a wide class of U(1)-invariant complex mKdV equations containing the two known integrable generalizations of the ordinary (real) mKdV equation. The main results on travelling waves include deriving new complex solitary waves and kinks that generalize the well-known mKdV $\sech$ and $\tanh$ solutions. The main results on conservation laws consist of explicitly finding all 1st order conserved densities that yield phase-invariant counterparts of the well-known mKdV conserved densities for momentum, energy, and Galilean energy, and a new conse…
Solitary waves are localized gravity waves that preserve their consistency and henceforth their visibility through properties of nonlinear hydrodynamics. Solitary waves have finite amplitude and spread with constant speed and constant shape. In this paper, we have used Lie group of transformation method to solve (3 + 1)-dimensional KdV type equation. We have obtained the infinitesimal generators, commutator table of Lie algebra for the KdV type equation. We have achieved a number of exact solutions of KdV type equation in the explicit form through similarity reduction. All the reported results…
In this work, we study the Benjamin-Bona-Mahony like equations with a fully nonlinear dispersive term by means of the factorization technique. In this way we find the travelling wave solutions of this equation in terms of the Weierstrass function and its degenerated trigonometric and hyperbolic forms. Then, we obtain the pattern of periodic, solitary, compacton and kink-like solutions. We give also the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian, which are linked to the factorization, for the nonlinear second order ordinary differential equations associated to the travelling wave equations.
This article describes the use of algebraic methods in a phase plane analysis of ordinary differential equations. The method is illustrated by the study of capillary-gravity steady surface waves propagating in shallow water. We consider the (fully nonlinear, weakly dispersive) Serre-Green-Naghdi equations with surface tension, because it provides a tractable model that, in the same time, is not too simple so the interest of the method can be emphasised. In particular, we analyse a special class of solutions, the solitary waves, which play an important role in many fields of Physics. In capilla…
Sampling equation method is presented to look for exact solutions of nonlinear differential equations. Application of this approach to one of the extensive chaos model is considered. Exact solutions of this model in travelling wave are given. Nonlinear evolution equation for the considered extensive chaos model is shown to have solitary and periodical waves.
In this paper we study symmetry reductions of a class of nonlinear third order partial differential equations $u_t -εu_{xxt} +2κu_x= u u_{xxx} +αu u_x +βu_x u_{xx}$ where $ε$, $κ$, $α$ and $β$ are arbitrary constants. Three special cases of equation (1) have appeared in the literature, up to some rescalings. In each case the equation has admitted unusual travelling wave solutions: the Fornberg-Whitham equation, for the parameters $ε=1$, $α=-1$, $β=3$ and $κ=\tfr12$, admits a wave of greatest height, as a peaked limiting form of the travelling wave solution; the Rosenau-Hyman equation, for the …

In the field of mathematical physics, there exist many physically interesting nonlinear dispersive equations with peakon solutions, which are solitary waves with discontinuous first-order derivative at the wave peak. In this paper, we apply the multi-layer physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) deep learning to successfully study the data-driven peakon and periodic peakon solutions of some well-known nonlinear dispersion equations with initial-boundary value conditions such as the Camassa-Holm (CH) equation, Degasperis-Procesi equation, modified CH equation with cubic nonlinearity, Novikov e…
We study a chain of infinitely many particles coupled by nonlinear springs, obeying the equations of motion [\ddot{q}_n = V'(q_{n+1}-q_n) - V'(q_n-q_{n-1})] with generic nearest-neighbour potential $V$. We show that this chain carries exact spatially periodic travelling waves whose profile is asymptotic, in a small-amlitude long-wave regime, to the KdV cnoidal waves. The discrete waves have three interesting features: (1) being exact travelling waves they keep their shape for infinite time, rather than just up to a timescale of order wavelength$^{-3}$ suggested by formal asymptotic analysis, (…
We consider the nonlinear Helmholtz (NLH) equation describing the beam propagation in a planar waveguide with Kerr-like nonlinearity under non-paraxial approximation. By applying the Lie symmetry analysis, we determine the Lie point symmetries and the corresponding symmetry reductions in the form of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with the help of the optimal systems of one-dimensional subalgebras. Our investigation reveals an important fact that in spite of the original NLH equation being non-integrable, its symmetry reductions are of Painlevé integrable. We study the resulting sets of…
In this work an extended elliptic function method is proposed and applied to the generalized shallow water wave equation. We systematically investigate to classify new exact travelling wave solutions expressible in terms of quasi-periodic elliptic integral function and doubly-periodic Jacobian elliptic functions. The derived new solutions include rational, periodic, singular and solitary wave solutions. An interesting comparison with the canonical procedure is provided. In some cases the obtained elliptic solution has singularity at certain region in the whole space. For such solutions we have…
Based on nonlocal symmetry method, localized excitations and interactional solutions are investigated for the reduced Maxwell-Bloch equations. The nonlocal symmetries of the reduced Maxwell-Bloch equations are obtained by the truncated Painleve expansion approach and the Mobious invariant property. The nonlocal symmetries are localized to a prolonged system by introducing suitable auxiliary dependent variables. The extended system can be closed and a novel Lie point symmetry system is constructed. By solving the initial value problems, a new type of finite symmetry transformations is obtained …
