Dark Stars are the very first phase of stellar evolution in the history of the universe: the first stars to form (typically at redshifts $z \sim 10-50$) are powered by heating from dark matter (DM) annihilation instead of fusion (if the DM is made of particles which are their own antiparticles). We find equilibrium polytropic configurations for these stars; we start from the time DM heating becomes important ($M \sim 1-10 M_\odot$) and build up the star via accretion up to 1000 M$_\odot$. The dark stars, with an assumed particle mass of 100 GeV, are found to have luminosities of a few times $10^6$ L$_\odot$, surface temperatures of 4000--10,000 K, radii $\sim 10^{14}$ cm, lifetimes of at least $ 0.5$ Myr, and are predicted to show lines of atomic and molecular hydrogen. Dark stars look quite different from standard metal-free stars without DM heating: they are far more massive (e.g. $\sim 800 M_\odot$ for 100 GeV WIMPs), cooler, and larger, and can be distinguished in future observations, possibly even by JWST or TMT.
In this paper we consider dark matter particle annihilation in the gravitational field of black holes. We obtain exact distribution function of the infalling dark matter particles, and compute the resulting flux and spectra of gamma rays coming from the objects. It is shown that the dark matter density significantly increases near a black hole. Particle collision energy becomes very high affecting relative cross-sections of various annihilation channels. We also discuss possible experimental consequences of these effects.
We discuss the possibility to observe the products of dark matter annihilation that was going on in the early Universe. Of all the particles that could be generated by this process we consider only photons, as they are both uncharged and easily detectable. The earlier the Universe was, the higher the dark matter concentration $n$ and the annihilation rate (proportional to $n^2$) were. However, the emission from the very early Universe cannot reach us because of the opacity. The main part of the signal was generated at the moment the Universe had just become transparent for the photons produced…
The positron excess observed by the PAMELA experiment may come from dark matter annihilation, if the annihilation cross section is large enough. We show that the dark matter annihilation scenarios to explain the positron excess may also be compatible with the discrepancy of the cosmic lithium abundances between theory and observations. The wino-like neutralino in the supersymmetric standard model is a good example for it. This scenario may be confirmed by Fermi satellite experiment.
SUSY-QCD Corrections to Dark Matter Annihilation in the Higgs Funnel
我们计算了Higgs漏斗中暗物质湮灭的全O(alpha_s)超对称QCD修正,计算了潜在的大的mu tan β和A_b贡献,并保留了所有有限的O(m_b,s,1/tan^2 β)项.我们数值证明,这些修正强烈影响超对称质量参数的宇宙学数据的提取,因此必须包括在常见的分析工具,如DarkSUSY或micrOMEGAs。
Dark matter annihilation into charged particles is necessarily accompanied by gamma rays, produced via radiative corrections. Internal bremsstrahlung from the final state particles can produce hard gamma rays up to the dark matter mass, with an approximately model-independent spectrum. Focusing on annihilation into electrons, we compute robust upper bounds on the dark matter self annihilation cross section $<σ_A v >_{e^+e^-}$ using gamma ray data from the Milky Way spanning a wide range of energies, $\sim10^{-3} - 10^4$ GeV. We also compute corresponding bounds for the other charged leptons. W…
Ultra-high energy cosmic rays from annihilation of superheavy dark matter
