We do a re-analysis to asses the impact of the results of the Borexino experiment and the recent 2.8 KTy KamLAND data on the solar neutrino oscillation parameters. The current Borexino results are found to have no impact on the allowed solar neutrino parameter space. The new KamLAND data causes a significant reduction of the allowed range of $Δm^2_{21}$, determining it with an unprecedented precision of 8.3% at 3$σ$. The precision of $Δm^2_{21}$ is controlled practically by the KamLAND data alone. Inclusion of new KamLAND results also improves the upper bound on $\sin^2θ_{12}$, but the precision of this parameter continues to be controlled by the solar data. The third mixing angle is constrained to be $\sin^2θ_{13} < 0.063$ at $3σ$ from a combined fit to the solar, KamLAND, atmospheric and CHOOZ results. We also address the issue of how much further reduction of allowed range of $Δm^2_{21}$ and $\sin^2θ_{12}$ is possible with increased statistics from KamLAND. We find that there is a sharp reduction of the $3σ$ ``spread'' with enhanced statistics till about 10 KTy after which the spread tends to flatten out reaching to less than 4% with 15 KTy data. For $\sin^2θ_{12}$ however, the spread is more than 25% even after 20 KTy exposure and assuming $θ_{12} < π/4$, as dictated by the solar data. We show that with a KamLAND like reactor ``SPMIN'' experiment at a distance of $\sim$ 60 km, the spread of $\sin^2θ_{12}$ could be reduced to about 5% at $3σ$ level while $Δm_{21}^2$ could be determined to within 4%, with just 3 KTy exposure.
If the solution to the solar neutrino puzzle falls in the LMA region, KamLAND should be able to measure with good precision the corresponding oscillation parameters after a few years of data taking. Assuming a positive signal, we study their expected sensitivity to the solar parameters (theta_{12},Delta m^2_{21}) when considered in the framework of three-neutrino mixing after taking into account our ignorance on the mixing angle theta_{13}. We find a simple ``scaling'' dependence of the reconstructed theta_{12} range with the value of theta_{13} while the Delta m^2_{12} range is practically un…
It is demonstrated that the observation of neutrino oscillations in the atmospheric (K2K) neutrino experiments and unitarity of the mixing matrix implies that disappearance of the reactor $\barν_{e}$'s discovered in the KamLAND experiment is due to $\barν_{e}\to \barν_μ$ {\em and} $\barν_{e}\to \barν_τ$ transitions. At $θ_{23}=π/4$ the probabilities of these transitions are equal.
If ultra-light dark matter (ULDM) exists and couples to neutrinos, the neutrino oscillation probability might be significantly altered by a parametric resonance. This resonance can occur if the typical frequency of neutrino flavor-oscillations $Δm^2/(2E)$, where $Δm^2$ is the mass-squared difference of the neutrinos and $E$ is the neutrino energy, matches the oscillation frequency of the ULDM field, determined by its mass, $m_ϕ$. The resonance could lead to observable effects even if the ULDM coupling is very small, and even if its typical oscillation period, given by $τ_ϕ=2π/m_ϕ$, is much sho…
It is shown that equal magnitudes of the transitions $\bar ν_e \to \bar ν_μ$ and $\bar ν_e \to \bar ν_τ$ in the disappearance of reactor $\bar ν_e$ discovered in the KamLAND experiment just follows at $θ_{23}=π/4$ and $θ_{13}=0$ from pure symmetry of $ν_μ$ and $ν_τ$ states relatively the mass states.
We study what will be learnt about the solar neutrino puzzle and solar neutrino oscillations once the data from the KamLAND reactor neutrino experiment (soon to become available) are combined with those from the current solar neutrino experiments. We find that, in agreement with previous estimates, if the solution to the solar neutrino puzzle falls on the LMA region, KamLAND should be able to ``pin-point'' the right solution with unprecedented accuracy after a few years of data taking. Furthermore, the light side ($θ<π/4$) can be separated from the dark side ($θ>π/4$) at the 95% confidence lev…
A new reactor power plant Shika-2, with a power of approximately 4 GW and at a distance of about 88 km from the KamLAND detector is scheduled to start operating in March 2006. We study the impact of the $\barν_e$ flux from this reactor on the sensitivity of the KamLAND experiment to the solar neutrino oscillation parameters. We present results on prospective determination of $Δm^2_\odot$ and $\sin^2θ_\odot$ using the combined data from KamLAND and the solar neutrino experiments, including the effect of the Shika-2 contribution to the KamLAND signal and the latest data from the salt enriched ph…
We explore the impact of the data from the KamLAND experiment in constraining neutrino mass and mixing angles involved in solar neutrino oscillations. In particular we discuss the precision with which we can determine the the mass squared difference $Δm^2_{solar}$ and the mixing angle $θ_{solar}$ from combined solar and KamLAND data. We show that the precision with which $Δm^_{solar}$ can be determined improves drastically with the KamLAND data but the sensitivity of KamLAND to the mixing angle is not as good. We study the effect of enhanced statistics in KamLAND as well as reduced systematics…
We present an updated analysis of all available solar and reactor neutrino data, emphasizing in particular the totality of the KamLAND results and including the SNO phase III spectrum data. In a two active-neutrino framework, we determine the solutions in the $Δm_{\odot}^2, \tan^2θ_{\odot}$ parameter space compatible with experimental data. Combining all data, we obtain the following best-fit parameters: $Δm_{\odot}^2 =8.17*10^-5$, $\tan^2θ_{\odot}=0.40$
In the framework of quantum open systems we analyze data from KamLAND by using a model that considers neutrino oscillation in a three-family approximation with the inclusion of the decoherence effect. Using a $χ^2$ test we find new limits for the decoherence parameter which we call $γ$, considering the most recent data by KamLAND. Assuming an energy dependence of the type $ γ= γ_0 \left( E/E_0 \right) ^n$, in 95 \% C.L. the limits found are $3.7 \times 10^{-24} GeV$ for $ n=-1$, $6.8 \times 10^{-22} GeV$ for $ n=0$, and $1.5 \times 10^{-19} GeV$ for $ n=1 $ on the energy dependence.
We investigate the impact of the 766.3 Ty KamLAND spectrum data on the determination of the solar neutrino oscillation parameters. We show that the observed spectrum distortion in the KamLAND experiment firmly establishes $Δm^2_{21}$ to lie in the low-LMA solution region. The high-LMA solution is excluded at more than 4$σ$ by the global solar neutrino and KamLAND spectrum data. The maximal solar neutrino mixing is ruled out at $6σ$ level. The $3σ$ allowed region in the $Δm^2_{21}-\sin^2θ_{12}$ plane is found to be remarkably stable with respect to leaving out the data from one of the solar neu…
We analyze the energy spectrum of reactor neutrino events recently observed in the Kamioka Liquid scintillator Anti-Neutrino Detector (KamLAND) and combine them with solar and terrestrial neutrino data, in the context of two- and three-family active neutrino oscillations. In the 2-neutrino case, we find that the solution to the solar neutrino problem at large mixing angle (LMA) is basically split into two sub-regions, that we denote as LMA-I and LMA-II. The LMA-I solution, characterized by lower values of the squared neutrino mass gap, is favored by the global data fit. This picture is not sig…
The recent measurement of Delta_{sol} by the KamLAND experiment with very small errors, makes definitive predictions for the energy dependence of the solar neutrino survival probability P_{ee}. We fix Delta_{sol} to be the KamLAND best fit value of 8*10^{-5} eV^2 and study the energy dependence of P_{ee} for solar neutrinos in the framework of two flavour oscillations and also of three flavour oscillations. For the case of two flavour oscillations, P_{ee} has a measurable slope in the 5-8 MeV range but the solar spectrum measurements in this range find P_{ee} to be flat. The predicted values o…
The KamLAND reactor antineutrino experiment has detected a 3.4σflux suppression relative to the expectation if no neutrino oscillations occur. We combine KamLAND data with solar neutrino data and show that the LMA solution is the only viable oscillation solution to the solar neutrino problem at the 4.4σC. L.
In this letter the robustness of the first results from the KamLAND reactor neutrino experiment with respect to variations in the statistical analysis is considered. It is shown that an event-by-event based likelhood analysis provides a more powerful tool to extract information from the currently available data sample than a least-squares method based on energy binned data. Furthermore, a frequentist analysis of KamLAND data is performed. Confidence regions with correct coverage in the plane of the oscillation parameters are calculated by means of a Monte Carlo simulation. I find that the resu…
The neutrino oscillation experiment KamLAND has given the first evidence for disappearance of $\bar ν_e$ coming from nuclear reactors. We have combined their data with all the solar neutrino data assuming two flavor neutrino mixing and obtained allowed parameter regions which are compatible with the so-called large mixing angle MSW solution to the solar neutrino problem. The allowed regions in the plane of mixing angle and mass squared difference are now split into two islands at 99% C.L. We have speculated how these two islands can be separated in the near future. We have shown that a 50% red…
A maximum likelihood approach has been used to analize the first results from KamLAND emphasizing the application of this method for low statistics samples. The goodness of fit has been determined exploiting a simple Monte Carlo approach in order to test two different null hytpotheses. It turns out that with the present statistics the neutrino oscillation hypothesis has a significance of about 90% (the best-fit for the oscillation parameters from KamLAND are found to be: $δm_{12}^2 \sim 7.1 \times 10^{-5}$ eV$^2$ and $\sin^2 θ_{12} = 0.424/0.576$), while the no-oscillation hypothesis of about …
We estimate how well we will know the parameters of solar neutrino oscillations after KamLAND and Borexino. The expected error on Delta m^2 is few per-mille in the VO and QVO regions, few per-cent in the LMA region, and around 10% in the LOW region. The expected error on sin^2 2theta is around 5%. KamLAND and Borexino will tell unambiguously which specific new measurement, dedicated to pp solar neutrinos, is able to contribute to the determination of theta and perhaps of Delta m^2. The present data suggest as more likely outcomes: no measurement, or the total pp rate, or its day/night variatio…
We comment on the first indication of geo-neutrino events from KamLAND and on the prospects for understanding Earth energetics. Practically all models of terrestrial heat production are consistent with data within the presently limited statistics, the fully radiogenic model being closer to the observed value ($\approx 9$ geo-events). In a few years KamLAND should collect sufficient data for a clear evidence of geo-neutrinos, however discrimination among models requires a detector with the class and size of KamLAND far away from nuclear reactors. We also remark that the event ratio from Thorium…
We show that a hierarchical CPT violating neutrino spectrum can simultaneously accommodate all published neutrino data, including the LSND result, with a total chi^2 which is almost identical to the CPT conserving best fit. In our scenario the oscillation signal seen by the KamLAND experiment in antineutrinos is independent of the LMA solar oscillation signal seen in neutrinos. A larger antineutrino mass splitting accounts for the LSND signal and also contributes to atmospheric oscillations. Because of this feature, there is some tension between our model and certain Super-K atmospheric result…
We use the recently reported KamLAND measurements on oscillations of reactor anti-neutrinos, together with the data of previously reported solar neutrino experiments, to show that: (1) the total 8B neutrino flux emitted by the Sun is 1.00(1.0 \pm 0.06) of the standard solar model (BP00) predicted flux, (2) the KamLAND measurements reduce the area of the globally allowed oscillation regions that must be explored in model fitting by six orders of magnitude in the Delta m^2-tan^2 theta plane, (3) LMA is now the unique oscillation solution to a CL of 4.7sigma, (4) maximal mixing is disfavored at 3…
The bicycle model of Lorentz noninvariant neutrino oscillations without neutrino masses naturally predicts maximal mixing and a 1/E dependence of the oscillation argument for muon-neutrino to tau-neutrino oscillations of atmospheric and long-baseline neutrinos, but cannot also simultaneously fit the data for solar neutrinos and KamLAND. Within the Standard Model Extension, we examine all 19 possible structures of the effective Hamiltonian for Lorentz noninvariant oscillations of massless neutrinos that naturally have a 1/E dependence at high neutrino energy. Due to the lack of any evidence for…
In a previous paper [1], we presented a three-flavour oscillation analysis of the solar neutrino measurements and of the first data from the KamLAND experiment, in terms of the relevant mass-mixing parameters (delta m^2, theta_12, theta_13). The analysis, performed by including the terrestrial neutrino constraints coming from the CHOOZ (reactor), KEK-to-Kamioka (K2K, accelerator) and Super-Kamiokande (SK, atmospheric) experiments, provided a stringent upper limit on theta_13, namely, sin^2(theta_13)<0.05 at 3 sigma. We reexamine such upper bound in the light of a recent (although preliminary) …
We analyze the impact of the data on long baseline ν_μdisappearance from the K2K experiment and reactor \barν_e disappearance from the KamLAND experiment on the determination of the leptonic three-generation mixing parameters. Performing an up-to-date global analysis of solar, atmospheric, reactor and long baseline neutrino data in the context of three-neutrino oscillations, we determine the presently allowed ranges of masses and mixing and we consistently derive the allowed magnitude of the elements of the leptonic mixing matrix. We also quantify the maximum allowed contribution of Δm^2_{21} …
We consider the impact of the recent KamLAND data on neutrino oscillations, the first terrestrial neutrino experiment that can probe the solar neutrino anomaly. By combining the first 145.1 days of KamLAND data with the full sample of latest solar neutrino data we find an enhanced rejection against non-LMA oscillations, allowed only at more than 4 sigma with respect to LMA. Furthermore, the new data have a strong impact in narrowing down the allowed range of Delta_m^2 inside the LMA region. In contrast, our global analysis indicates that the new data have little impact on the location of the b…
We present an updated analysis of all available solar and reactor neutrino data, emphasizing in particular the totality of the KamLAND (314d live time) results and including for the first time the solar $SNO$ (391d live time, phase II NaCl-enhanced) spectrum data. As a novelty of the statistical analysis, we study the variability of the KamLand results with respect the use of diverse statistics. A new statistic, not used before is proposed. Moreover, in the analysis of the SNO spectrum a novel technique is used in order to include full correlated errors among bins. Combining all data, we obtai…
We review neutrino oscillation physics, including the determination of mass splittings and mixings from current solar, atmospheric, reactor and accelerator neutrino data. A brief discussion is given of cosmological and astrophysical implications. Non-oscillation phenomena such as neutrinoless double beta decay would, if discovered, probe the absolute scale of neutrino mass and also reveal their Majorana nature. Non-oscillation descriptions in terms of spin-flavor precession (SFP) and non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI) currently provide an excellent fit of the solar data. However they are…
We present a short review of the existing evidence in favor of neutrino mass and neutrino oscillations which come from different kinds of experiments. We focus our attention in particular on solar neutrinos, presenting a review of some recent analysis of all available neutrino oscillation evidence in Solar experiments including the recent $SNO CC$ and $NC$ data. We present in detail the power of the reactor experiment KamLAND for discriminating existing solutions to the SNP and giving accurate information on neutrino masses and mixing angles.
We review the potential of long and intermediate baseline reactor neutrino experiments in measuring the mass and mixing parameters. The KamLAND experiment can measure the solar mass squared difference very precisely. However it is not at the ideal baseline for measuring the solar neutrino mixing angle. If low-LMA is confirmed by the next results from KamLAND, a reactor experiment with a baseline of 70 km should be ideal to measure precisely the solar neutrino mixing angle. If on the contrary KamLAND re-establishes high-LMA as a viable solution, then a 20--30 km intermediate baseline reactor ex…
We study the physics capabilities of the NuMI beamline with an off-axis highly-segmented iron scintillator detector and with the inclusion of the currently under study proton driver upgrade. We focus on the prospects for the experimental determination of the remaining neutrino oscillation parameters, assuming different outcomes for experiments under way or in preparation. An optimization of the beam conditions and detector location for the detection of the nu_mu to nu_e transitions is discussed. Different physics scenarios were considered, depending on the actual solution of the solar neutrino…
In this paper we study the physics potential of the KamLAND detector in probing neutrino oscillation parameters through observation of supernova neutrinos. In particular, we discuss the possibilities of probing the mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and determining the sign of $Δm^2_{32}$ from the total charged current(CC) event rates on the proton and $^{12}{C}$ target, as well as from the CC spectra. We discuss the chances of probing the earth matter effect induced modulations from the observation of CC spectra in the different CC reactions in KamLAND and find the volume required to get a statistically s…
We explore whether KamLAND and solar data may end up inconsistent when analyzed in terms of two-flavor neutrino oscillations. If this turned out to be the case, one would be led to conclude that there is more new physics, besides neutrino masses and mixing, in the leptonic sector. On the other hand, given that KamLAND and solar data currently agree when analyzed in terms of two-flavor neutrino oscillations, one is able to place nontrivial bounds on several manifestations of new physics. In particular, we compute how well a combined KamLAND and solar data analysis is able to constrain a specifi…
In the recent years important discoveries in the field of low energy neutrino physics (E$_ν$ in the $\approx$ MeV range) have been achieved. Results of the solar neutrino experiment SNO show clearly flavor transitions from $ν_e$ to $ν_{μ,τ}$. In addition, the long standing solar neutrino problem is basically solved. With KamLAND, an experiment measuring neutrinos emitted from nuclear reactors at large distances, evidence for neutrino oscillations has been found. The values for the oscillation parameters, amplitude and phase, have been restricted. In this paper the potential of future projects …
The Kamioka Liquid scintillator Anti-Neutrino Detector (KamLAND) is collecting antineutrino events generated by nuclear reactors and by Thorium and Uranium decay in the Earth interior. We comment on a systematic approach to the evaluation of the geo-neutrino contribution and of its uncertainties in KamLAND, taking into account geophysical and geochemical indications, estimates, and data. The results can help to improve both the neutrino oscillation analysis and the knowledge of the Earth interior. Input and desiderata for future geoneutrino analyses are identified.
We investigate the potential of 3 kiloTon-years(kTy) of KamLAND data to further constrain the $Δm^2$ and $\tan^2θ$ values compared to those presently allowed by existing KamLAND and global solar data. We study the extent, dependence and characteristics of this sensitivity in and around the two parts of the LMA region that are currently allowed. Our analysis with 3 kTy simulated spectra shows that KamLAND spectrum data by itself can constrain $Δm^2$ with high precision. Combining the spectrum with global solar data further tightens the constraints on allowed values of $\tan^2θ$ and $Δm^2$. We a…
We present the results of a Bayesian analysis of solar and KamLAND neutrino data in the framework of three-neutrino mixing. We adopt two approaches for the prior probability distribution of the oscillation parameters Delta m^2_{21}, sin^2 theta_{12}, sin^2 theta_{13}: 1) a traditional flat uninformative prior; 2) an informative prior which describes the limits on sin^2 theta_{13} obtained in atmospheric and long-baseline accelerator and reactor neutrino experiments. In both approaches, we present the allowed regions in the sin^2 theta_{13} - Delta m^2_{21} and sin^2 theta_{12} - sin^2 theta_{1…
An updated analysis of all available neutrino oscillation evidence in Reactor (Kamland, first 145 days of data) and Solar experiments (SK day and night spectra, global rates from Homestake, SAGE and GALLEX) including the $SNO CC$ and $NC$ data is presented. In the framework of two active neutrino oscillations we determine the allowed regions in neutrino parameter space, we obtain, from the Kamland spectral shape and global signal, the following antineutrino best solution parameters, $ Δm^2_{kl}= 7.7\times 10^{-5} \eV^2, \tan^2θ_{kl}= 0.98.$ The overall effect of the measured observed ratio $R\…
We analyze the cumulative data from the latest SNO, KamLAND and other solar neutrino experiments in the standard scenario of three oscillating active neutrinos. We determine the solar neutrino oscillation parameters and obtain new bounds on $θ_x$. We also place constraints on the fraction of oscillating solar neutrinos that transform to sterile neutrinos with the $^8$B flux normalization left free. Concomitantly, we assess the sensitivity of future data from the SNO and KamLAND experiments to $θ_x$ and to the sterile neutrino content of the solar flux.
We study how well KamLAND, the first terrestrial neutrino experiment capable of addressing the solar neutrino problem, will perform in ascertaining whether or not the large mixing angle MSW solution (with $10^{-5}<Δm_{21}^2< 10^{-4} eV^2$ and oscillation amplitude $sin^2 2 θ_{12}>0.3$) is correct. We find that in a year of operation KamLAND will provide unequivocal evidence for or against this solution. Furthermore, its sensitivity to the three-neutrino oscillation parameters in this region is sufficiently acute as to determine $Δm_{21}^2$ to approximately $\pm 10$ % (for $sin^2 2 θ_{12}>0.7$)…
The Kamioka Liquid scintillator Anti-Neutrino Detector (KamLAND) is sensitive to the neutrino event spectrum from (mainly Japanese) nuclear reactors in both the energy domain and the time domain. While the energy spectrum of KamLAND events allows the determination of the neutrino oscillation parameters, the time spectrum can be used to monitor known and unknown neutrino sources. By using available monthly-binned data on event-by-event energies in KamLAND and on reactor powers in Japan, we perform a likelihood analysis of the neutrino event spectra in energy and time, and find significant indic…
The bicycle model of Lorentz noninvariant neutrino oscillations without neutrino masses naturally predicts maximal mixing and a 1/E dependence of the oscillation argument for $ν_μ\to ν_τ$ oscillations of atmospheric and long-baseline neutrinos, but cannot also simultaneously fit the data for solar neutrinos and KamLAND. We examine all nineteen possible structures of the Standard Model Extension for Lorentz noninvariant oscillations of massless neutrinos that naturally have a 1/E dependence at high neutrino energy. Due to the lack of any evidence for direction dependence, we consider only direc…
The KamLAND and Borexino experiments have detected electron antineutrinos produced in the decay chains of natural thorium and uranium (Th and U geoneutrinos). We analyze the energy spectra of current geoneutrino data in combination with solar and long-baseline reactor neutrino data, with marginalized three-neutrino oscillation parameters. We consider the case with unconstrained Th and U event rates in KamLAND and Borexino, as well as cases with fewer degrees of freedom, as obtained by successively assuming for both experiments a common Th/U ratio, a common scaling of Th+U event rates, and a ch…
We require that the primordial baryon asymmetry is not washed out in the seesaw model compatible with the recent results of WMAP and the neutrino oscillation experiments including the first results of KamLAND. We find that only the case of the normal neutrino mass hierarchy with an approximate $L_{e}$-symmetry satisfies the requirement. We further derive, depending on the signs of neutrino mass eigenvalues, three types of neutrino mass matrixes, where the values of each element are rather precisely fixed.
An updated analysis of all available neutrino oscillation evidence in Solar experiments including the latest SNO ES,CC and NC data (254d live time, NaCL enhanced efficiency) is presented. We obtain, for the fraction of active oscillating neutrinos: sin^2alpha=(Φ_{NC}-Φ_{CC})/(Φ_{SSM}-Φ_{CC})=0.94^{+0.0.065}_{-0.060} nearly 20σfrom the pure sterile oscillation case. The fraction of oscillating sterile neutrinos cos^2α\lsim 0.12 (1 sigma CL). At face value, these results might slightly favour the existence of a small sterile oscillating sector. In the framework of two active neutrino oscillation…
We present an analysis of the global neutrino oscillation data including the LSND result in terms of four-neutrino mass schemes and a CPT violating three-neutrino framework. We find that the strong preference of oscillations into active neutrinos implied by recent solar+KamLAND as well as atmospheric neutrino data allows to rule out (2+2) mass schemes at 5.8$σ$, whereas (3+1) schemes are disfavoured at the 3.2$σ$ level by short-baseline experiments. The CPT violating scenario is disfavoured at 3.4$σ$ by KamLAND and atmospheric anti-neutrino data. We conclude that currently no convincing explan…
We consider a model where sterile neutrinos can propagate in a large compactified extra dimension giving rise to Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes and the standard model left-handed neutrinos are confined to a 4-dimensional spacetime brane. The KK modes mix with the standard neutrinos modifying their oscillation pattern. We examine former and current experiments such as CHOOZ, KamLAND, and MINOS to estimate the impact of the possible presence of such KK modes on the determination of the neutrino oscillation parameters and simultaneously obtain limits on the size of the largest extra dimension. We found …
We investigate the possibility of detecting solar antineutrinos with the KamLAND experiment. These antineutrinos are predicted by spin-flavor oscillations at a significant rate even if this mechanism is not the leading solution to the SNP. The recent evidence from SNO shows that a) the neutrino oscillates, only around 34% of the initial solar neutrinos arrive at the Earth as electron neutrinos and b) the conversion is mainly into active neutrinos, however a non e, mu, tau component is allowed: the fraction of oscillation into non-mu-tau neutrinos is found to be cos^2(alpha) = 0.08^{+0.20}_{-0.…
We find the condition that the primordial baryon asymmetry is not washed out in the $SU(2)_{L}$ triplet Higgs model by solving the Boltzmann equation. We further require that the model is compatible with the recent results of the neutrino oscillation experiments and WMAP, and the constraints on the $ρ$ parameter imposed by the LEP. We finally obtain the allowed region of the parameters in the model.
We present the constraints on neutrino oscillation parameters $Δm^2_{\odot}$ and $θ_{\odot}$ governing the solar neutrino oscillations from two generation analysis of solar and KamLAND data. We include the latest 766.3 ton year KamLAND data in our analysis. We also present the allowed values of parameters $Δm^2_{atm}$ and $\sin^2θ_{atm}$ from two generation oscillation analysis of SuperKamiokande atmospheric and K2K data. For both cases we discuss the precision achieved in the present set of experiments and also how the precision can be improved in future. We also obtain the bounds on $θ_{13}$…
Real-time neutrino oscillation experiments such as Super-Kamiokande (SK), the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO), the Kamioka Liquid scintillator Anti-Neutrino Detector (KamLAND), and Borexino, can detect time variations of the neutrino signal, provided that the statistics is sufficiently high. We quantify this statement by means of a simple unbinned test, whose sensitivity depends on the variance of the signal in the time domain, as well as on the total number of signal and background events. The test allows a unified discussion of the statistical uncertainties affecting current or future mea…
SuperKamiokande (SK) doped with gadolinium has the capability to efficiently identify electron-antineutrinos through inverse beta-decay. Given the size of SK and the number of nuclear reactors in its vicinity, we argue that SK can observe the oscillations of reactor antineutrinos driven by the so-called solar mass-squared difference $Δm^2_{21}$. After only one year of data taking, we estimate that SK can measure $Δm^2_{21}$ with enough precision to help inform the current small tension between existing results from KamLAND and solar neutrino experiments.
The solar neutrino data are analyzed in a frequentist framework, using the Crow-Gardner and Feldman-Cousins prescriptions for the construction of confidence regions. Including in the fit only the total rates measured by the various experiments, both methods give results similar to the commonly used Delta chi^2-cut approximation. When fitting the full data set, the Delta chi^2-cut still gives a good approximation of the Feldman-Cousins regions. However, a careful statistical analysis significantly reduces the goodness-of-fit of the SMA and LOW solutions. In the addenda we discuss the implicatio…
Large Mixing Angle (LMA) neutrino oscillation is the main solution for the long-standing Solar Neutrino Problem (SNP). Whether there is any subdominant effect accompanying the dominant LMA solution can not be ruled out at the moment, but will be settled by the forthcoming data from highly skilled real time experiments targeting essentially the low energy domain of solar neutrinos. Assuming a subdominant effect converting one of the active neutrinos into a sterile partner in the varying solar field with changing sunspot activity, we performed field-profile-independent predictions for $^7 Be$ ne…
We present a three-parameter neutrino-oscillation model for three flavors of massless neutrinos with Fermi-point splitting and tri-maximal mixing angles. One of these parameters is the T-violating phase ε, for which the experimental results from K2K and KamLAND appear to favor a nonzero value. In this article, we give further model predictions for neutrino oscillations. Upcoming experiments will be able to test this simple model and the general idea of Fermi-point splitting. Possible implications for proposed experiments and neutrino factories are also discussed.
Measuring the 7Be solar neutrino flux is crucial towards solving the solar neutrino puzzle. The Borexino experiment, and possibly the KamLAND experiment, will be capable of studying the 7Be neutrinos in the near future. We discuss (1) how the seasonal variation of the Borexino and KamLAND data can be used to measure the 7Be solar neutrino flux in a background independent way and (2) how anomalous seasonal variations might be used to discover vacuum neutrino oscillations, independent of the solar model and the measurement of the background. In particular, we find that, after three years of Bore…
We present a three-parameter model for three flavors of massless left-handed neutrinos with Fermi-point splitting and tri-maximal mixing angles. One of these parameters is the T-violating phase δ, for which the experimental results from K2K and KamLAND appear to favor a nonzero value. Future experiments, in particular MINOS, will be able to test this simple model. Possible implications for neutrino factories are briefly discussed.
We analyze the expected signals of two future neutrino experiments, kamLAND and BOREXINO. We show that with just these experiments, we will hopefully be able to determine which of the existing solutions to the solar neutrino problem is the real solution. We also analyze existing solar neutrino data and determine the best-fit points in the oscillation-parameter space finding that with the inclusion of SNO-charged current, the global-rates analysis gives a favored LMA solution with a goodness of fit (g.o.f) of just 32.63%, whereas the g.o.f of the SMA solution is 9.83%. Nonetheless, maximal and …
We explore the potential of measuring the solar neutrino oscillation parameters in the proposed gadolinium loaded Super-Kamiokande (SK-Gd) detector. Gadolinium dissolved in water can detect neutrons much more efficiently than pure water. This imparts the detector the ability to observe electron type antineutrinos, transforming Super-Kamiokande into a huge reactor antineutrino detector with an event rate approximately 43 times higher than that observed in KamLAND. We simulate the reactor antineutrino data expected in this high statistics detector. We use these prospective data to study the prec…
Insofar as the detection of anti-neutrinos from nuclear reactors is concerned, the SNO+ detector -- a 1 kilo-tonne liquid scintillator detector that inherits the experimental infrastructure from the recently finished SNO experiment -- is expected to perform just as well as the KamLAND experiment. The most important difference between these experiments is the distribution of nuclear reactors: whereas KamLAND has 9 nuclear reactor sites within 300 km with a flux-averaged baseline of about 180 km, SNO+ has only 1 within 300 km, with an average baseline of $\approx 750$ km. As a result, the reacto…
