Assuad-Nagata dimension of nilpotent groups with arbitrary left invariant metrics

Suppose $G$ is a countable, not necessarily finitely generated, group. We show $G$ admits a proper, left-invariant metric $d_G$ such that the Assouad-Nagata dimension of $(G,d_G)$ is infinite, provided the center of $G$ is not locally finite. As a corollary we solve two problems of A.Dranishnikov.

In this work we study two problems about Assouad-Nagata dimension: 1) Is there a metric space of non zero Assouad-Nagata dimension such that all of its asymptotic cones are of Assouad-Nagata dimension zero? Attainable sets for left invariant control systems and Carnot-Caratheodory metrics on nilpotent Lie groups

Let $G$ be a semidirect product of a simply connected nilpotent Lie group and $\R$. For a left invariant control system on $G$ with a convex cone as a control domain, it is proved that the attainable sets coincides with a "halfspace" if the degree of contact of the with some special subspaces is sufficiently high.

Isometries of nilpotent metric groups

We consider Lie groups equipped with arbitrary distances. We only assume that the distance is left-invariant and induces the manifold topology. For brevity, we call such object metric Lie groups. Apart from Riemannian Lie groups, distinguished examples are sub-Riemannian Lie groups and, in particular, Carnot groups equipped with Carnot-Carathéodory distances. Non-Euclidean isoperimetric inequalities for nilpotent Lie groups

This article treats isoperimetric inequalities for integral currents in the setting of stratified nilpotent Lie groups equipped with left-invariant Riemannian metrics. We prove that for each such group there is a dimension in which no Euclidean isoperimetric inequality is admitted, while in all smaller dimensions strictly Euclidean isoperimetric inequalities are satisfied.

Ultrarigid tangents of sub-Riemannian nilpotent groups

We show that the tangent cone at the identity is not a complete quasiconformal invariant for sub-Riemannian nilpotent groups. Namely, we show that there exists a nilpotent Lie group equipped with left invariant sub-Riemannian metric that is not locally quasiconformally equivalent to its tangent cone at the identity. In particular, such spaces are not locally bi-Lipschitz homeomorphic. The result is based on the study of Carnot groups that are rigid in the sense that their only quasiconformal maps are the translations and the dilations.

On the rate of convergence to the asymptotic cone for nilpotent groups and subFinsler geometry

Addressing a question of Gromov, we give a rate in Pansu's theorem about the convergence in Gromov-Hausdorff metric of a finitely generated nilpotent group equipped with a left-invariant word metric scaled by a factor 1/n towards its asymptotic cone. We show that due to the possible presence of abnormal geodesics in the asymptotic cone, this rate cannot be better than n^{1/2} for general non-abelian nilpotent groups. As a corollary we also get an error term of the form vol(B(n))=cn^d + O(n^{d-2/(3r)}) for the volume of Cayley balls of a nilpotent group with nilpotency class r. We also state a …

Existence of isoperimetric regions in sub-Finsler nilpotent groups

We consider a nilpotent Lie group with a bracket-generating distribution $\hhh$ and an asymmetric left-invariant norm $\|\cdot\|_K$ induced by a convex body $K\subseteq\hhh$ containing $0$ in its interior. In this paper we prove the existence of minimizers of the perimeter functional $P_K$ associated to $\|\cdot\|_K$ under a volume (Haar measure) constraint. Our result generalizes the one of Leonardi and Rigot for Carnot groups.
