We discuss features of charmonium suppression at $\sqtr{s} = 200$ GeV within the framework of the Glauber-Gribov theory and the comovers interaction model. The latter approach has been extended by allowing for secondary charmonium production due to recombination of $c\bar{c}$ pairs in the medium, estimated from pp data at the same bombarding energy. Centrality and rapidity dependence of the nuclear modification factor for J/psi in d+Au, Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions at RHIC are reproduced without fitting a single model parameter. A strong suppression of J/psi is predicted for LHC energies.
We discuss charmonium production in proton-nucleus collisions at RHIC energies under the assumption of xF and x2 scaling. We find that all the ambiguities due to energy loss are gone at this energy and therefore data will reveal the scaling law, if any. These p-A data will also be crucial to interpret nucleus-nucleus data with respect to a possible formation of a quark gluon plasma because the extrapolations for charmonium production from the present p-A data to RHIC energies, based on the two scaling laws, differ by a factor of four.
The production of charmonia in relativistic heavy-ion collisions is formulated within the framework of a quantum kinetic theory simultaneously accounting for breakup and recombination processes. The survival probability of J/Psi mesons is evaluated for a Mott-Hagedorn resonance gas, whereby the pattern of anomalous J/Psi suppression at CERN-SPS can be explained by a strong coupling to open-charm states and their in-medium modification. Recent data for charmonium suppression from Au-Au collisions at RHIC are discussed.
Recent experimental and theoretical studies suggest that the quarkonia suppression in a thermal QCD medium created at heavy ion collisions is a complex interplay of various physical processes. In this article we put together most of these processes in a unified way to calculate the charmonium survival probability (nuclear modification factor) at energies available at relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC) and large hadron collider (LHC) experiments. We have included shadowing as the dominant cold nuclear matter (CNM) effect. Further, gluo-dissociation and collision damping has been included wh…
Physics of charmonium suppression in nuclear collisions drastically changes between the energies of SPS and RHIC. Mechanisms suppressing charmonia at SPS are reviewed, neither of which is important at RHIC. On the other hand, coherence, or shadowing of c-quarks and gluons barely seen at SPS, become a dominant effect at RHIC providing a much stronger suppression. A onset of coherence at Fermilab energies explains the observed cross section ratio steeply falling at large Feynman x_F. In nuclear collisions variation of charmonium suppression with x_F suggests a sensitive probe for QGP.
Following a recent work on equation of state for strongly interacting quark-gluon plasma [J. Phys. G: Nucl. Part. Phys. 32, 993 (2006)], we revisited the equation of state by incorporating the non-perturbative effects in the deconfined plasma phase. Our results on thermodynamic observables viz. pressure, energy density, speed of sound etc. nicely fit with the lattice equation of state for gluon, massless and as well massive flavored plasma. Motivated by this agreement with lattice results, we have employed our equation of state to estimate the quarkonium suppression in an expanding, dissipativ…
In this paper we propose the study of the photoproduction of charmoniumlike states in $pp$ collisions at RHIC and LHC energies and estimate the rapidity distribution and total cross sections for the production of the exotic hadrons $Y(3940)$, $X(3915)$, $Z(4430)$ and $Z_c(3900)$. We demonstrate that the experimental analysis of this process can provide complementary and independent checks on these states, and help to understand their underlying nature.
A kinetic equation approach is applied to model anomalous J/psi suppression at RHIC and SPS by absorption in a hadron resonance gas which successfully describes statistical hadron production in both experiments. The puzzling rapidity dependence of the PHENIX data is reproduced as a geometric effect due to a longer absorption path for J/psi production at forward rapidity.
We estimate the energy of the lowest Charmonium and Upsilon states with hybrid admixtures using the method of QCD Sum Rules. Our results show that the $Ψ'(2S)$ and $Υ(3S)$ states both have about a 50% admixture of hybrid and meson components. From this we find explanations of both the famous $ρ-π$ puzzle for Charmonium, and the unusual pattern of $σ$ decays that have been found in $Υ$ decays. Moreover, this picture can be used for predictions of heavy quark production with the octet model for RHIC.
We analyze the transverse momentum distribution of $J/ψ$ mesons produced in Au + Au collisions at the top RHIC energy within a blast-wave model that accounts for a possible inhomogeneity of the charmonium distribution and/or flow fluctuations. The results imply that the transverse momentum spectra of$J/ψ$, $ϕ$ and $Ω$ hadrons measured at the RHIC can be described well if kinetic freeze-out takes place just after chemical freeze-out for these particles.
Charmonium production at heavy-ion colliders is considered within the comovers interaction model. The formalism is extended by including possible secondary J/psi production through recombination and an estimate of recombination effects is made with no free parameters involved. The comovers interaction model also includes a comprehensive treatment of initial-state nuclear effects, which are discussed in the context of such high energies. With these tools, the model properly describes the centrality and the rapidity dependence of experimental data at RHIC energy, $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV, for both A…
The analyses of large transverse momentum charmonium production at the Tevatron have shown that fragmentation of gluons is an important production mechanism. We study large-$p_T$ charmonium production in $pp$ collisions at the LHC, and find that due to the copious gluon production at this energy, the gluon fragmentation contribution completely overwhelms the fusion contribution and the charm quark fragmentation contribution. Our analysis shows that for $J/ψ$ production at the LHC, there is a significant event rate even for $p_T \sim$~100~GeV. The measurement of the cross-section at such large …
We calculate the centrality dependence for coherent photoproduction of very low-$p_{T}$ $J/ψ$ at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies within the impact parameter dependent saturated color dipole model. By using the large equivalent photon fluxes, we present the differential cross section of very low-$p_{T}$ $J/ψ$ produced by coherent photonuclear in peripheral heavy-ion collisions. The numerical results demonstrate that our calculation are agree with $J/ψ$ data in peripheral heavy ion collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) energies.
Heavy quark and charmonium production as well as their space-time evolution are studied in transport simulations of heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC. In the partonic transport model Boltzmann Approach of MultiParton Scatterings (BAMPS) heavy quarks can be produced in initial hard parton scatterings or during the evolution of the quark-gluon plasma. Subsequently, they interact with the medium via binary scatterings with a running coupling and a more precise Debye screening which is derived from hard thermal loop calculations, participate in the flow and lose energy. We present results of th…
We consider the charmonium production in thermalized hadronic medium created in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions at LHC energy. The calculations for the secondary $J/ψ$ and $ψ^,$ production by $D\bar D$ annihilation are performed within a kinetic model taking into account the space-time evolution of a longitudinally and transversely expanding medium. We show that the secondary charmonium production appears almost entirely during the mixed phase and it is very sensitive to the charmonium dissociation cross section with co-moving hadrons. Within the most likely scenario for the dissociatio…
In the energy range of RHIC and LHC the mechanisms of nuclear suppression of charmonia are expected to be strikingly different from what is known for the energy of the SPS. One cannot think any more of charmonium produced on a bound nucleon which then attenuates as it passes through the rest of the nucleus. The coherence length of charmonium production substantially exceeds the nuclear radius in the new energy range. Therefore the production amplitudes on different nucleons, rather than the cross sections, add up and interfere, i.e. shadowing is at work. So far no theoretical tool has been ava…
At present the color-octet mechanism is still an important and debatable part in the non-relativistic QCD(NRQCD). We find in this work that the polarized double charmonium production at the LHC may pose a stringent test on the charmonium production mechanism. Result shows that the transverse momentum($p_T$) scaling behaviors of double $J/ψ$ differential cross sections in color-singlet and -octet production mechanisms deviate distinctively from each other while $p_T$ is larger than 7 GeV. In color-octet mechanism, the two $J/ψ$s in one pair are mostly transversely polarized when $p_T\gg 2 m_c$,…
The production of charmonia is investigated for heavy-ion collisions from SPS to RHIC energies. Our approach incorporates two sources of $J/Ψ$ yield: (i) a direct contribution arising from early (hard) parton-parton collisions, subject to subsequent nuclear absorption, quark-gluon plasma and hadronic dissociation, and (ii) statistical production at the hadronization transition by coalescence of $c$ and $\bar{c}$ quarks. Within an expanding thermal fireball framework, the model reproduces $J/Ψ$ centrality dependencies observed at the SPS in Pb-Pb and S-U collisions reasonably well. The study of…
The phenomenology of gluon saturation at small parton momentum fraction, Bjorken-x, in the proton and in the nucleus is introduced. The experimentally-accessible kinematic domains at the nucleus-nucleus colliders RHIC and LHC are discussed. Finally, the saturation hints emerging from measurements at RHIC and the perspectives for LHC are described.
We analyze the applicability of perturbative QCD (pQCD) approach to the issue of $J/ψ$ recombination at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and calculate the recombination cross section for $c\bar{c}$ recombination to form $J/ψ$ as a function of temperature. The charmonium wavefunction is obtained by employing a temperature dependent phenomenological potential between the $c\bar{c}$ pair. The temperature dependent formation time of charmonium is also employed in the current work. A set of coupled rate equations is established which incorporates color screening, gluonic dissociation, collisional d…
Charmonia hadro- and photo-production are analyzed in the framework of the color-octet model taking into account higher-order effects induced by initial-state radiation of gluons. We argue that color-octet matrix elements obtained from Tevatron data might be reconciled with those extracted from HERA data on inelastic $J/ψ$ photoproduction. Finally we estimate cross sections for events with muons from prompt $J/ψ$'s as a background for the B physics programme at LHC experiments.
Hadroproductions of charmonium and bottomonium $χ_J$ in polarized $pp$ collisions at RHIC energies are studied. Two--spin asymmetries $A_{LL}^{χ_J}(pp)$ for these reactions are very good parameters for examining the polarized gluon distributions in a proton.
We propose to investigate various charmonium states using their common decay channel to p pbar at LHC. Having the branching ratios for charmonium decaying into the p pbar final state measured or calculated, we propose to measure the charmonium production rate for both hadroproduction including soft-diffraction and inclusive production from b-hadron decays. We discuss the theoretical impacts in QCD of measuring different charmonium production rates and also the experimental prospects at LHCb, in particular, those for yet unmeasured eta_c and h_c.
We present POWHEG predictions for photon-jet correlations at RHIC and the LHC. We show that the total transverse-momentum spectrum of photons and jets is modified not only by medium, but also by higher-order QCD effects, as is the distribution in their relative azimuthal angle. At the LHC, photon-jet measurements in the forward region allow to probe parton momentum fractions of lead ions down to 10$^{-4}$.
We present our recent results on jet tomography of AA-collisions at RHIC and LHC. We focus on flavor dependence of the nuclear modification factor. The computations are performed accounting for radiative and collisional parton energy loss with running coupling constant.
We investigate the energy dependence of stopping and hadron production in high-energy heavy-ion collisions based on a three-sources Relativistic Diffusion Model. The transport coefficients are extrapolated from Au + Au and Cu + Cu at RHIC energies (sqrt{s_NN)=19.6 - 200 GeV) to Pb + Pb at LHC energies sqrt{s_NN)= 5.52 TeV. Rapidity distributions for net protons, and pseudorapidity spectra for produced charged particles in central collisions are compared to data at RHIC energies, and discussed for several extrapolations to LHC energies.
We show estimates for shadowing of gluons at small values of $x$, appropriate to RHIC and LHC experiments using a new evolution equation which takes into account the effects of gluon recombination to all orders in gluon density. We show that there is a significant depletion in the gluon density of large nuclei.
We predict W and Z transverse momentum distributions from proton-proton and nuclear collisions at RHIC and LHC. A resummation formalism with power corrections to the renormalization group equations is used. The dependence of the resummed QCD results on the non-perturbative input is very weak for the systems considered. Shadowing effects are discussed and found to be unimportant at RHIC, but important for LHC. We study the enhancement of power corrections due to multiple scattering in nuclear collisions and numerically illustrate the weak effects of the dependence on the nuclear mass.
We report results of our ongoing nonperturbative numerical study of a classical effective theory describing low-x partons in the central region of a heavy-ion collision. In particular, we give estimates of the initial transverse energies and multiplicities for a wide range of collision regimes, including those at RHIC and at LHC.
We review the recent results from the computation of saturated next-to-leading order perturbative QCD minijet intial conditions combined with viscous hydrodynamical evolution of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions at the LHC and RHIC. Comparison with experimental data is shown.
By using models based on Regge phenomenology we analyse the coherent photoproduction of charmonium in peripheral heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The centrality dependence is investigated and compared to the experimental results for coherent $J/ψ$ production in lead-lead LHC runs at the energies of 2.76 and 5.02 TeV. Theoretical uncertainties and possible limitations of the formalism are also discussed.
RHIC data opens new ways of characterizing the medium created in a heavy ion collision by measuring particles with high transverse momentum. In addition to the observation of the predicted jet quenching, the new data on particle correlations indicate that a strong modification of the jet-like shapes is driven by the dynamical properties of the medium. I will review the lessons we are learning from RHIC and outline some new directions which could become of primary importance at the LHC.
I review the color dipole formulation of heavy quark production in the light of recent RHIC data. Since charm and bottom production directly probe the gluon density, these processes allow one to study shadowing and parton saturation at RHIC and LHC. The dipole approach provides a convenient framework to calculate these nuclear effects. I present numerical results for open charm and bottom production in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions and discuss transverse momentum broadening of heavy quarkonia.
We have developed a hydrodynamic model to study sequential melting of charmonium states in an expanding QGP medium. According to the initial fluid temperature profile, $J/ψ$'s are randomly distributed in the transverse plane. As the fluid evolve in time, the free streaming $J/ψ$'s are suppressed if the local fluid temperature exceed a critical temperature. PHENIX data on the centrality dependence of $J/ψ$ suppression in Au+Au collisions at mid-rapidity are explained by sequential melting of the charmonium states, $χ_c$, $ψ\prime$ and $J/ψ$, in the expanding medium. The critical temperatures $T…
We show that the whole range of RHIC data for hadron production in d-Au collisions is compatible with geometric scaling. To establish the scaling violations expected from small-x evolution a larger kinematic range in transverse momentum and rapidity would be needed. We point out that the fall-off of the p_t distribution of produced hadrons at large p_t is a sensitive probe of small-x evolution especially at the LHC.
The dependence of the multiplicity and the transverse momentum distribution on the number of collisions are studied for central and peripheral Au-Au collisions at SPS, RHIC and LHC energies in the framework of percolation of strings. A scaling law relating the multiplicity to the mean transverse momentum is obtained. Our results are in overall agreement with the SPS and RHIC data, obtaining a suppression on $p_T$ distribution even for $p_T$ larger than 1 GeV/c.
I present a brief review of the recent phenomenological analyses of RHIC data based on the the Color Glass Condensate, including the use of non-linear evolution equations with running coupling. In particular, I focus in the study of the total multiplicities in Au+Au collisions, and in the single inclusive and double inclusive forward spectra in d+Au collisions. Predictions for the LHC are also discussed.
The percolation of strings gives a good description of the RHIC experimental data on the elliptic flow, v2 and predicted a rise on the integrated v2 of the order of 25% at LHC such as it has been experimentally obtained. We show that the dependence of v2 on pT for RHIC and LHC energies is approximately the same as it has been observed, for all the centralities. We show the results for different particles and the dependence of v2 on the centralities and rapidity. Our results are compatible with an small value of the ratio eta/s in the whole energy range such as it was expected in the percolatio…
The attenuation of heavy-flavored particles in nucleus-nucleus collisions tests the microscopic dynamics of medium-induced parton energy loss and, in particular, its expected dependence on the identity (color charge and mass) of the parent parton. We discuss the comparison of theoretical calculations with recent single-electron data from RHIC experiments. Then, we present predictions for the heavy-to-light ratios of D and B mesons at LHC energy.
We attempt to deduce simple options of `jet quenching' phenomena in heavy-ion collisions at $\snn=5.5 \tev$ at the LHC from the present knowledge of leading-hadron suppression at RHIC energies. In light of the nuclear modification factor for leading particles we introduce the nuclear modification factor for jets, $\RAA^{jet}$, and for the longitudinal momenta of particles along the jet axis, $\RAA^{p_{\rm L}}$.
We compare fully perturbative and fully nonperturbative pictures of high-pT energy loss calculations to the first results from LHC. While over-suppressed compared to published ALICE data, parameter-free pQCD predictions based on the WHDG energy loss model constrained to RHIC data simultaneously describe well the preliminary CMS hadron suppression, ATLAS charged hadron v2, and ALICE D meson suppression; we also provide for future reference WHDG predictions for B meson RAA. However, energy loss calculations based on AdS/CFT also qualitatively describe well the RHIC pion and non-photonic electron…
Finite temperature lattice QCD indicates that the charmonium ground state J/psi can survive in a quark-gluon plasma up to 1.5 T_c or more, while the excited states chi_c and psi-prime are dissociated just above T_c. We assume that the chi_c suffers the same form of suppression as that observed for the psi-prime in SPS experiments, and that the directly produced J/psi is unaffected at presently available energy densities. This provides a parameter-free description of J/psi and psi-prime suppression which agrees quite well with that observed in SPS and RHIC data.
This talk will discuss how to compute initial quantites in heavy ion collisions at RHIC (200 AGeV) and at LHC (5500 AGeV) using perturbative QCD (pQCD) by including the next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections and a dynamical determination of the dominant physical scale. The initial numbers are converted into final ones by assuming kinetic thermalization and adiabatic expansion.
The Color Glass Condensate picture of the nuclear wave function at small-x successfully predicted the suppressed production of high-pT particles at forward rapidities in deuteron-gold collisions at RHIC. This triggered more efforts which resulted in theoretical improvements and predictions for different observables which will provide further phenomenological tests. I review recent theoretical developments and discuss the resulting predictions.
Production and elliptic flow of heavy quarks are investigated in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC and LHC within the Boltzmann Approach of MultiParton Scatterings (BAMPS). The initial heavy quark yield is estimated with the leading order mini-jet model and compared to PYTHIA for several parton distribution functions. Secondary production of heavy quarks in the quark-gluon plasma is examined within the full 3+1 dimensional BAMPS simulation of heavy ion collisions. At RHIC this yield is negligible, but for LHC charm production in the QGP plays a significant role. In addition, we study the elli…
We discuss aspects of open and hidden charm production in deuterium-nucleus collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. We describe calculations of the total $c \bar c$ cross section and the charm quark transverse momentum distributions. We next explain how shadowing and moderate nuclear absorption can explain the PHENIX $J/ψ$ dAu/$pp$ ratios and predict the combined effect of shadowing and absorption in 6.2 TeV d+Pb collisions.
The Odderon remains an elusive object, 33 years after its invention. The Odderon is now a fundamental object in QCD and CGC and it has to be found experimentally if QCD and CGC are right. In the present talk, we show how to find it at RHIC and LHC. The most spectacular signature of the Odderon is the predicted difference between the differential cross-sections for proton-proton and antiproton-proton at high s and moderate t. This experiment can be done by using the STAR detector at RHIC and by combining these future data with the already present UA4/2 data. The Odderon could also be found by A…
Considering the magnetic field response of the QGP medium, we perform a systematical study of the chiral magnetic effect(CME), and make a comparison it with the experimental results for the background-subtracted correlator $H$ at the energies of the RHIC Beam Energy Scan (BES) and LHC energy. The CME signals from our computations show a centrality trend and beam energy dependence that are qualitatively consistent with the experimental measurements of the charge dependent correlations. The time evolution of the chiral electromagnetic current at the RHIC and LHC energies is systematically studie…
We have investigated the build up of anisotropic flows within a parton cascade approach at fixed shear viscosity to entropy density η/s to study the generation of collective flows in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. We present a study of the impact of a temperature dependent η/s(T) on the generation of the elliptic flow at both RHIC and LHC. Finally we show that the transport approach, thanks to its wide validity range, is able to describe naturally the rise - fall and saturation of the v_2(p_T) observed at LHC.
We demonstrate that the RHIC data for hadron production in d-Au collisions for all available rapidities are compatible with geometric scaling. In order to establish the presence of scaling violations expected from small-x evolution a much larger range in transverse momentum and rapidity needs to be probed. We show that the fall-off of the transverse momentum distribution of produced hadrons at LHC is a sensitive probe of small-x evolution.
We present results on rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of inclusive charm quark production in hadronic and heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies, including the next-to-leading order, $O(α_s^3)$, radiative corrections and the nuclear shadowing effect. We determine the hadronic and the {\it effective} (in-medium) K-factor for the differential and total inclusive charm cross sections. We show that these K-factors have strong $p_T$ dependence. We discuss how measurements of charm production at RHIC and LHC can provide valuable information about the gluon density in a nucleus.
The pseudorapidity distribution of centers of dense isolated groups of particles in HIJING model is determined. It can be considered as the background for Cherenkov gluons. If peaks over this background were found in experiment, they would indicate the onset of new collective effects.
In this paper we investigate the hadron and photon production at forward rapidities in $pp$ and $pA$ collisions considering two phenomenological models based on the Color Glass Condensate formalism. The predictions of these models for the hadron spectra are compared with the dAu and pp RHIC data and the nuclear modification factor $R_{hA}$ is estimated. Our results demonstrate that the analysis of the transverse momentum dependence of this factor allows to discriminate between the phenomenological models. Furthermore, we predict $R_{hA}$ for photon production at forward rapidities at RHIC and …
Despite a wealth of experimental data for high p_T processes in heavy-ion collisions, discriminating between different models of hard parton-medium interactions has been difficult. One important reason is that the pQCD parton spectrum at RHIC kinematics is so steeply falling that distinguishing even a moderate shift in parton energy from complete parton absorption is almost impossible in observable quantities. In essence, energy loss models are effectively only probed in the vicinity of zero energy loss and as a result, only the pathlength dependence of energy loss offers some discriminating p…
Predictions for the pseudorapidity density of charged particles produced in Pb-Pb central collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.5$ TeV are presented. Particle production in such collisions is computed in the framework of k_t-factorization, using running coupling non-linear evolution to determine the transverse momentum and rapidity dependence of the nuclear unintegrated gluon distributions.
An exact analytical solution to the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation is proposed incorporating Mellin transformation with saddle point approximation. The theoretical significance of this solution is its simplicity in form which requires very less number of parameters. Using this solution along with the idea of color glass condensate, a very good description of RHIC and LHC data on differential yield is obtained for d-Au, p-p and p-Pb collisions. Quantitative prediction for the nuclear modification factors for p-Pb, Pb-Pb and Xe-Xe collisions relevant for very recent LHC run 2 is yielded.
High $p_T$ single and dihadron production is studied within a NLO pQCD parton model with jet quenching in high energy $A+A$ collisions at the RHIC/LHC energy. A simultaneous $χ^2$-fit to both single and dihadron spectra can be achieved within a narrow range of energy loss parameter. Punch-through jets are found to result in the dihadron suppression factor slightly more sensitive to medium than the single hadron suppression factor at RHIC. Such jets at LHC are found to dominate high $p_T$ dihadron production and the resulting dihadron spectra are more sensitive to the initial parton distributio…
We consider the production and decay of the $χ_2$ charmonium state in polarized and unpolarized $pp$ collisions at RHIC in the framework of an effective theory based on the QCD multipole expansion. We find that the angular distribution in the decay of the produced charmonium, $χ_2 \to J/ψ+ γ$, in the unpolarized case allows us to distinguish clearly between the color singlet and color octet production mechanisms. Once the production mechanism is known, the angular distribution in the polarized case can be used to measure the polarized gluon distribution in the proton, $ΔG(x)$.
We investigate charmonium production in Pb+Pb collisions at LHC beam energy $E_{\text {lab}}$=2.76 A TeV at fixed-target experiment ($\sqrt {s_{\text{NN}}}$=72 GeV). In the frame of a transport approach including cold and hot nuclear matter effects on charmonium evolution, we focus on the anti-shadowing effect on the nuclear modification factors $R_{AA}$ and $r_{AA}$ for the $J/ψ$ yield and transverse momentum. The yield is more suppressed at less forward rapidity ($y_\text{lab}\simeq$2) than that at very forward rapidity ($y_\text{lab}\simeq$4) due to the shadowing and anti-shadowing in diffe…
A kinetic-rate equation approach in a thermally expanding medium is employed to calculate the evolution of charmonium and bottomonium distributions in heavy-ion collisions. The equilibrium properties of the quarkonia are taken from in-medium spectral functions which are schematically constrained by euclidean correlators from lattice QCD. The initial conditions for the rate equation (heavy-flavor cross sections, nuclear absorption) and the thermal evolution are constrained by data as available. After fixing two free parameters to describe charmonium data at SPS and RHIC, the predictions for LHC…
We present our results on charmonium production at the Large Hadron Collider energies within the comover interaction model. The formalism includes both comover dissociation of $J/ψ$'s and possible secondary $J/ψ$ production through recombination. The estimation of this effect is made without involving free parameters. The comover interaction model also incorporates an analytic treatment of initial-state nuclear shadowing. With these tools, the model successfully describes the centrality, transverse momentum and rapidity dependence of the experimental data from PbPb collisions at the LHC energy…
