Toward an AdS/cold atoms correspondence: a geometric realization of the Schroedinger symmetry

We discuss a realization of the nonrelativistic conformal group (the Schroedinger group) as the symmetry of a spacetime. We write down a toy model in which this geometry is a solution to field equations. We discuss various issues related to nonrelativistic holography. In particular, we argue that free fermions and fermions at unitarity correspond to the same bulk theory with different choices for the near-boundary asymptotics corresponding to the source and the expectation value of one operator. We describe an extended version of nonrelativistic general coordinate invariance which is realized holographically.

Properties of Schroedinger Black Holes from AdS Space

Properties of Schroedinger black holes are derived from AdS black holes expressed in light-cone coordinates with a particular normalization. The advantages of this method over the direct analysis of the Schroedinger geometry are the simplicity and the well-defined Brown-York procedure with the standard counterterms. The method is demonstrated for several physical interests, including the computation of the DC conductivity and the derivation of the R-charged black hole thermodynamic properties.

Below the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound in the nonrelativistic AdS/CFT correspondence

We propose that there is no analogue of the Breitenlohner-Freedman stability bound on the mass of a scalar field in the context of the nonrelativistic AdS/CFT correspondence. Our treatment is based on an equivalence between the field equation of a complex scalar in the AdS/CFT correspondence and the one-dimensional Schroedinger equation with an inverse square potential. We compute the two-point boundary correlation function for m^2<m_{BF}^2 and discuss its relation to renormalization group limit cycles and the Efimov effect in quantum mechanics. Correlation functions in the non-relativistic AdS/CFT correspondence

We study the correlation functions of scalar operators in the theory defined as the holographic dual of the Schroedinger background with dynamical exponent z=2 at zero temperature and zero chemical potential. We offer a closed expression of the correlation functions at tree level in terms of Fourier transforms of the corresponding n-point functions computed from pure AdS in the lightcone frame. At the loop level this mapping does not hold and one has to use the full Schroedinger background, after proper regularization. Hot Spacetimes for Cold Atoms

Building on our earlier work and that of Son, we construct string theory duals of non-relativistic critical phenomena at finite temperature and density. Concretely, we find black hole solutions of type IIB supergravity whose asymptotic geometries realize the Schroedinger group as isometries. We then identify the non-relativistic conformal field theories to which they are dual. The geometry of Schrödinger symmetry in non-relativistic CFT

The non-relativistic conformal "Schroedinger" symmetry of some gravity backgrounds proposed recently in the AdS/CFT context, is explained in the "Bargmann framework". The formalism incorporates the Equivalence Principle. Newton-Hooke conformal symmetries, which are analogs of those of Schroedinger in the presence of a negative cosmological constant, are discussed in a similar way. Further examples include topologically massive gravity with negative cosmological constant and the Madelung hydrodynamical description.

Wheeler-DeWitt Equation in AdS/CFT Correspondence

We discuss a quantum extension of the holographic RG flow equation obtained previously from the classical Hamiltonian constraint in the bulk AdS supergravity. The Wheeler-DeWitt equation is proposed to generate the extended RG flow and to produce 1/N subleading corrections systematically. Our formulation in five dimensions is applied to the derivation of the Weyl anomaly of boundary N=4 SU(N) super-Yang-Mills theory beyond the large N limit. Massless sector of AdS_3 superstrings: a geometric interpretation

We study the recently discovered q-deformed Poincare' supersymmetry of the AdS_3/CFT_2 integrable massless scattering, and demonstrate how the S-matrix is invariant under boosts. The boost generator has a non-local coproduct, which acts on the scattering matrix as a differential operator, annihilating it. Cold planar horizons are floppy

Extremal planar black holes of four dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory with a negative cosmological constant have an AdS$_2 \times \R^2$ near horizon geometry. We show that this near horizon geometry admits a deformation to a two parameter family of extremal geometries with inhomogeneous, spatially periodic horizons. At a linear level, static inhomogeneous perturbations of AdS$_2 \times \R^2$ decay towards the horizon and thus appear irrelevant under the holographic RG flow. The 't Hooft Model As A Hologram

We consider the 3d dual of 1+1 dimensional large-N_c QCD with quarks in the fundamental representation, also known as the 't Hooft model. 't Hooft solved this model by deriving a Schroedinger equation for the wavefunction of a parton inside the meson. In the scale-invariant limit, we show how this equation is related by a transform to the equation of motion for a scalar field in AdS_3. We thus find an explicit map between the `parton-x' variable and the radial coordinate of AdS_3. This direct map allows us to check the AdS/CFT prescription from the 2d side. Kerr/CFT, dipole theories and nonrelativistic CFTs

We study solutions of type IIB supergravity which are SL(2,R) x SU(2) x U(1)^2 invariant deformations of AdS_3 x S^3 x K3 and take the form of products of self-dual spacelike warped AdS_3 and a deformed three-sphere. One of these backgrounds has been recently argued to be relevant for a derivation of Kerr/CFT from string theory, whereas the remaining ones are holographic duals of two-dimensional dipole theories and their S-duals. Holographic Complexity Of Cold Hyperbolic Black Holes

AdS black holes with hyperbolic horizons provide strong-coupling descriptions of thermal CFT states on hyperboloids. The low-temperature limit of these systems is peculiar. In this note we show that, in addition to a large ground state degeneracy, these states also have an anomalously large holographic complexity, scaling logarithmically with the temperature. We speculate on whether this fact generalizes to other systems whose extreme infrared regime is formally controlled by Conformal Quantum Mechanics, such as various instances of near-extremal charged black holes.

Degenerate Stars and Gravitational Collapse in AdS/CFT

We construct composite CFT operators from a large number of fermionic primary fields corresponding to states that are holographically dual to a zero temperature Fermi gas in AdS space. We identify a large N regime in which the fermions behave as free particles. In the hydrodynamic limit the Fermi gas forms a degenerate star with a radius determined by the Fermi level, and a mass and angular momentum that exactly matches the boundary calculations. Renormalization Group Flows from D=3, N=2 Matter Coupled Gauged Supergravities

We study holographic RG flows of N=2 matter couple AdS_3 supergravities which admit both compact and non-compact sigma manifolds. For the compact case the supersymmetric domain wall solution interpolates between a conformal IR region and flat spacetime and this corresponds to a deformation of the CFT by an irrelevant operator. When it is non-compact, the solution can be interpreted as a flow between an UV fixed point and a non-conformal(singular) IR region. Helical Luttinger Liquids and Three Dimensional Black Holes

Cold interacting fermions in two dimensions form exactly solvable Luttinger liquids, whose characteristic scaling exponents differ from those of conventional Fermi liquids. We use the AdS/CFT correspondence to discuss an equivalence between a class of helical, strongly coupled Luttinger liquids and fermions propagating in the background of a 3D black hole. Renormalization group improved black hole spacetimes

We study the quantum gravitational effects in spherically symmetric black hole spacetimes. The effective quantum spacetime felt by a point-like test mass is constructed by ``renormalization group improving'' the Schwarzschild metric. The key ingredient is the running Newton constant which is obtained from the exact evolution equation for the effective average action.
