We verify numerically that in the context of general relativity (GR), flat models which have the same $Ω_{\rm m}$ and CMB shift parameter $R$ but different $H(a)$ and $w(a)$ also have very similar (within less than 8%) growth of perturbations even though the dark energy density evolution is quite different. This provides a direct connection between geometrical and dynamical tests of dark energy and may be used as a cosmological test of general relativity.
This paper covers several techniques of intercomparison of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropy experiments and models of structure formation. It presents the constraints on several cosmological parameters using current CMB observations.
I present a short review of the effects of a cosmological magnetic field on the CMB temperature and polarization anisotropies. Various possibilities for constraining the magnetic field amplitude are discussed.
We present the results of a combined analysis of cosmic microwave background (CMB) and X-ray galaxy clusters baryon fraction to deduce constraints over 6 in flationnary cosmological parameters. Such a combination is necessary for breaki ng degeneracies inherent to the CMB.
We present a method of subtracting the foreground contamination for the measurement of CMB polarization. We calculate the resultant errors on CMB polarization and temperature-polarization cross correlation power spectra for the high frequency instrument (HFI) aboard Planck Surveyor, and estimate the corresponding errors on cosmological parameters.
We study scalar mode perturbations (magnetosonic waves) induced by a helical stochastic cosmological magnetic field and derive analytically the corresponding cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature and polarization anisotropy angular power spectra. We show that the presence of a stochastic magnetic field, or an homogeneous magnetic field, influences the acoustic oscillation pattern of the CMB anisotropy power spectrum, effectively acting as a reduction of the baryon fraction. We find that the scalar magnetic energy density perturbation contribution to the CMB temperature anisotropy is sm…
The low multipoles of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy possess some strange properties like the alignment of the quadrupole and the octopole, and the extreme planarity or the extreme sphericity of some multipoles, respectively. In this paper the CMB anisotropy of several multi-connected space forms is investigated with respect to the maximal angular momentum dispersion and the Maxwellian multipole vectors in order to settle the question whether such spaces can explain the low multipole anomalies in the CMB.
We use numerical simulation of cosmological reionization to calculate the secondary CMB anisotropies in a representative flat low density cosmological model. We show that the kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect (scattering off of moving electrons in the ionized intergalactic medium) is dominated by the nonlinear hydrodynamic and gravitational evolution of the density and velocity fields, rather than the detailed distribution of the ionization fraction (``patchy reionization'') on all angular scales. Combining our results with the recent calculation of secondary CMB anisotropies by Springel et al…
The majority of present efforts to constrain cosmological parameters with cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy data employ approximate likelihood functions, the time consuming nature of a complete analysis being a major obstacle. We have performed a full (unapproximated) likelihood analysis on several experiments that allows us to examine the various assumptions made in these approximate methods and to evaluate their performance. Our results indicate that care should be taken when using such approaches. With an improved approximate method, we present some constraints on cosmological pa…
We show that the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data of WMAP can give subelectronvolt limit on the neutrino mass: m_nu < 0.63 eV (95% CL). We also investigate its degeneracy with other cosmological parameters. In particular, we show the Hubble constant derived from the WMAP data decreases considerably when the neutrino mass is a few times 0.1 eV.
Nonlinear gravitational effects of large-scale inhomogeneities on Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies are studied. based on the relativistic second-order theory of perturbations in nonzero-Lambda flat cosmological models, which has been analytically derived by the present author, and on the second-order formula of CMB anisotropies derived by Mollerach and Matarrese. In this paper we derive the components of the CMB anisotropy power spectra in the range of l = 1 -22 which are caused by asymmetric local inhomogeneities on scales of 300 Mpc. Using our results it is found that there is …
We estimate the accuracy with which various cosmological parameters can be determined from the CMB temperature and polarization data when various galactic unpolarized and polarized foregrounds are included and marginalized using the multi-frequency Wiener filtering technique. We use the specifications of the future CMB missions MAP and PLANCK for our study. Our results are in qualitative agreement with earlier results obtained without foregrounds, though the errors in most parameters are higher because of degradation of the extraction of polarization signal in the presence of foregrounds.
In this talk I present a short review of primordial magnetic helicity effects on Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) temperature and polarization anisotropies. These effects allow us to test for cosmological magnetic helicity, however, very accurate CMB fluctuation data is required. This scheme for magnetic helicity detection is valid only for a cosmological magnetic field with a present amplitude larger than $10^{-9}-10^{-10}$ Gauss.
I review the general aspects of cosmological parameter estimation from observations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature anisotropies in the framework of inflationary adiabatic models. The most recent CMB datasets are starting to give good constraints on the relevant parameters of inflationary adiabatic models. They point toward a model consistent with the basic predictions of inflation: a nearly flat universe, with a nearly scale invariant spectrum of primordial fluctuation.
Research on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) is progressing rapidly. New experimental groups are popping up and two new satellites will be launched. The current enthusiasm to measure fluctuations in the CMB power spectrum at angular scales between 0.1 and 1 degree is largely motivated by the expectation that CMB determinations of cosmological parameters will be of unprecedented precision: cosmological gold. In this article I will try to answer the following questions: 1) What is the CMB? 2) What are cosmological parameters? 3) What is the CMB power spectrum? 4) What are all those bumps in…
In this brief review I will touch upon the main points and thends of observational and theoretical cosmology, that influence and change today our understanding of the Universe.
The current enthusiam to measure fluctuations in the CMB power spectrum at angular scales between 0.1 and 1 degree is largely motivated by the expectation that CMB determinations of cosmological parameters will be of unprecedented precision. In such circumstances it is important to estimate what we can already say about the cosmological parameters. In two recent papers (Lineweaver etal 1997a & 1997b) we have compiled the most recent CMB measurements, used a fast Boltzmann code to calculate model power spectra (Seljak & Zaldarriaga 1996) and, with a chi-squared analysis, we have compared the da…
We discuss the hypotheses that cosmological baryon asymmetry and entropy were produced in the early Universe by phase transition of the scalar fields in the framework of spontaneous baryogenesis scenario. We show that annihilation of the matter-antimatter clouds during the cosmological hydrogen recombination could distort of the CMB anisotropies and polarization by delay of the recombination. After recombination the annihilation of the antibaryonic clouds (ABC) and baryonic matter can produce peak-like reionization at the high redshifts before formation of quasars and early galaxy formation. W…
I describe briefly the Cosmic Microwave Background (hereafter CMB) physics which explains why high accuracy observations of its spatial structure are a unique observational tool both for the determination of the global cosmological parameters and to constrain observationally the physics of the early universe. I also briefly survey the many experiments which have measured the anisotropies of the CMB and led to crucial advances in observational Cosmology. The somewhat frantic series of new results has recently culminated with the outcome of the WMAP satellite which confirmed earlier results, set…
The properties of the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation angular autocorrelation function in Friedman Universe with negative curvature (k=-1) are studied. The dependence of the spectral index of autocorrelation function on the density parameter of the Universe is studied numerically, taking into account the effect of geodesic mixing, occuring in k=-1 curvature Universes.
We applay the genus statistics to simulated CMB polarization maps, constructed from the secondary-ionization cosmological models in experimental situations comparable to those of forthcoming space experiments. We find that both the cosmic baryon density and the spectral index of density perturbations are strongly anicorrelated to the reionization redshift. Using the Fisher matrix approach we show that the accuracy on the spectral index and optical depth to the last scattering are improved in the case of genus statistics when comparing with the accuracy obtained from the standard power spectrum…
I review the basic theory of the cosmic microwave background anisotropies in adiabatic cold dark matter cosmologies. The latest observational results on the CMB power spectrum are consistent with the simplest inflationary models and indicate that the Universe is close to spatially flat with a nearly scale invariant fluctuation spectrum. We are also beginning to see interesting constraints on the density of CDM, with a best fit value of omega_c = Omega_c h^2 of about 0.1. The CMB constraints, when combined with observations of distant Type Ia supernovae, are converging on a Lambda-dominated Uni…
The normal parameters are a non--linear transformation of the cosmological parameters whose likelihood function is very well--approximated by a normal distribution. This transformation serves as an extreme form of data compression allowing for practically instantaneous calculation of the likelihood of any given model, as long as the model is in the parameter space originally considered. The compression makes all the information about cosmological parameter constraints from a given set of experiments available in a useable manner. Here we explicitly define the normal parameters that work for th…
The WMAP first year detection of a high redshift reionization through its imprints on CMB anisotropy T and TE mode angular power spectra calls for a better comprehension of the universe ionization and thermal history after the standard recombination. Different reionization mechanisms predict different signatures in the CMB, both in temperature and polarization anisotropies and in spectral distortions. The Planck capability to distinguish among different scenarios through its sensitivity to T, TE, and E mode angular power spectra is discussed. Perspectives open by future high sensitivity experi…
We study metric-affine gravity (MAG) inspired cosmological models. Those models were statistically estimated using the SNIa data. We also use the cosmic microwave background observations and the big-bang nucleosynthesis analysis to constrain the density parameter $Ω_{ψ,0}$ which is related to the non-Riemannian structure of the underlying spacetime. We argue that while the models are statistically admissible from the SNIa analysis, complementary stricter limits obtained from the CMB and BBN indicate that the models with density parameters with a $a^{-6}$ scaling behaviour are virtually ruled o…
CMB anisotropy data could put powerful constraints on theories of the evolution of our Universe. Using the observations of the large number of CMB experiments, many studies have put constraints on cosmological parameters assuming different frameworks. Assuming for example inflationary paradigm, one can compute the confidence intervals on the different components of the energy densities, or the age of the Universe, inferred by the current set of CMB observations. The aim of this note is to present some of the available methods to derive the cosmological parameters with their confidence interval…
The reconstruction of the CMBR power spectrum from a map represents a major computational challenge to which much effort has been applied. However, once the power spectrum has been recovered there still remains the problem of extracting cosmological parameters from it. Doing this involves optimizing a complicated function in a many dimensional parameter space. Therefore efficient algorithms are necessary in order to make this feasible. We have tested several different types of algorithms and found that the technique known as simulated annealing is very effective for this purpose. It is shown t…
We use Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) observations together with the Red-sequence Cluster Survey (RCS) weak lensing results to derive constraints on a range of cosmological parameters. This particular choice of observations is motivated by their robust physical interpretation and complementarity. Our combined analysis, including a weak nucleosynthesis constraint, yields accurate determinations of a number of parameters including the amplitude of fluctuations sigma_8 = 0.89+/-0.05 and matter density Omega_m =0.30+/-0.03. We also find a value for the Hubble parameter of H_0 =70+/-3km/s/Mpc, i…
We derive cosmological parameters from the CBI measurements of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) angular power spectrum. Our results provide an independent confirmation of the standard $Ω_{\rm tot}=1$ $Λ$CDM model within the adiabatic, inflationary paradigm. Above $\ell=2000$ the observations show evidence of power in excess of that expected in the standard models. We use hydrodynamical simulations to show how Sunyaev-Zeldovich Effect (SZE) may account for the excess power for models with fluctuation amplitude $σ_8\sim 1$ which is in the high end of the range allowed by the primary CMB obs…
Recently H(z) data obtained from differential ages of galaxies have been proposed as a new geometrical probe of dark energy. In this paper we use those data, combined with other background tests (CMB shift and SNIa data), to constrain a set of general relativistic dark energy models together with some other models motivated by extra dimensions. Our analysis rests mostly on Bayesian statistics, and we conclude that LCDM is at least substantially favoured, and that braneworld models are less favoured than general relativistic ones.
We discuss the problems of applying Maximum Likelihood methods to the CMB and how one can make it both efficient and optimal. The solution is a generalised eigenvalue problem that allows virtually no loss of information about the parameter being estimated, but can allow a substantial compression of the data set. We discuss the more difficult question of simultaneous estimation of many parameters, and propose solutions. A much fuller account of most of this work is available (Tegmark, Taylor & Heavens 1997)
We describe constraints on a ``standard'' 8 parameter open cold dark matter (CDM) model from the most recent CMB and SN1a data. Our parameters are the densities of CDM, baryons, vacuum energy and curvature, the reionization optical depth, and the normalization and tilt for both scalar and tensor fluctuations. We find that although the possibility of reionization and gravity waves substantially weakens the constraints on CDM and baryon density, tilt, Hubble constant and curvature, allowing e.g. a closed Universe, open models with vanishing cosmological constant are still strongly disfavored.
Markov-chain Monte Carlo sampling has become a standard technique for exploring the posterior distribution of cosmological parameters constrained by observations of CMB anisotropies. Given an infinite amount of time, any MCMC sampler will eventually converge such that its stationary distribution is the posterior of interest. In practice, however, naive samplers require a considerable amount of time to explore the posterior distribution fully. In the best case, this results only in wasted CPU time, but in the worse case can lead to underestimated confidence limits on the values of cosmological …
We estimate the effect of the experimental uncertainty in the measurement of the temperature of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) on the extraction of cosmological parameters from future CMB surveys. We find that even for an ideal experiment limited only by cosmic variance up to l = 2500 for both the temperature and polarisation measurements, the projected cosmological parameter errors are remarkably robust against the uncertainty of 1 mK in the FIRAS instrument's CMB temperature monopole measurement. The maximum degradation in sensitivity is 20%, for the baryon density estimate, relative …
CMBR distortion concerned with recombination of the primordial plasma is calculated in frequency band from 1 GHz to 100 GHz in the frame of the standard cosmological model for different values of cosmological density parameters: nonrelativistic matter density $Ω_m$ and baryonic matter density $Ω_b$. Comparison of these results with observational data which will be obtained from planned experiments may be used for independent determination of the cosmological parameters $Ω_m$ and $Ω_b$.
I present here a brief overview of the effects caused by parity violating cosmological sources (such as magnetic or kinetic helicity) on the CMB fluctuations. I discuss also primordial helicity induced relic gravitational waves. All these effects can serve as cosmological tests for primordial helicity detection.
Second-order power spectra of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies due to random primordial perturbations at the matter dominant stage are studied, based on the relativistic second-order theory of perturbations in flat cosmological models and on the second-order formula of CMB anisotropies derived by Mollerach and Matarrese. So far the second-order integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect has been analyzed using the three-point correlation or bispectrum. In this paper we derive the second-order term of power spectra given using the two-point correlation of temperature fluctuations. The second-o…
The last years have been an exciting period for the field of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) research. With recent CMB balloon-borne and ground-based experiments we are entering a new era of 'precision' cosmology that enables us to use the CMB anisotropy measurements to constrain the cosmological parameters and test new theoretical scenarios.
We analyse the implications of recent Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) data for a specific cosmological model, based on the higher-dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills System compactified on a $R\times S^3\times S^d$ topology and conclude that the model parameters are tightly constrained by CMB spectra. Moreover, the model predicts a relationship between the deceleration parameter at present, $q_0$, and some characteristic features of CMB spectra, namely the height of the first peak and the location of the second peak, that is consistent with the observations and which can be further tested by fut…
We discuss the constraints one can place on cosmological parameters using current cosmic microwave background data. A standard $χ^2$--minimization over band--power estimates is first presented, followed by a discussion of the more correct likelihood approach. We propose an approximation to the complete likelihood function of an arbitrary experiment requiring only limited and easily found information about the observations. Examination of both open models -- $(Ω,h,Q,n)$ -- and flat models ($Ω+Ω_Λ=1$) -- $(Ω,Ω_b,h,Q,n)$ -- leaves one rather robust result: models with small curvature are favored.
This is a course on cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies in the standard cosmological model, designed for beginning graduate students and advanced undergraduates. ``Standard cosmological model'' in this context means a Universe dominated by some form of cold dark matter (CDM) with adiabatic perturbations generated at some initial epoch, e.g., Inflation, and left to evolve under gravity alone (which distinguishes it from defect models). The course is primarily theoretical and concerned with the physics of CMB anisotropies in this context and their relation to structure formation. Brie…
Gravitational interaction of cosmic microwave background (CMB) photons with matter perturbations present along the line-of-sight to the surface of last scattering modifies the shape of the CMB anisotropy power spectrum. Here I focus on (linear) integrated Sachs-Wolfe and (non-linear) gravitational lensing effects and discuss the detectability of the resulting distortions and their possible consequences for the CMB-based estimation of cosmological parameters. Specifically, I discuss if any of those effects may allow us to use CMB experiments to put independent constraints on the curvature of th…
Observations of the cosmic microwave background represent a remarkable source of information for modern cosmology. Besides providing impressive support for the Big Bang model itself, they quantify the overall framework, or background, for the formation of large scale structure. Most exciting, however, is the potential access these observations give to the first moments of cosmic history and to the physics reigning at such exceptionally high energies, which will remain beyond the reach of the laboratory in any foreseeable future. Upcoming experiments, such as the Planck mission, thus offer a wi…
I derive analytically the spectrum of the CMB fluctuations. The final result for C_l is presented in terms of elementary functions with an explicit dependence on the basic cosmological parameters. This result is in a rather good agreement with CMBFAST for a wide range of parameters around concordance model. This allows us to understand the physical reasons for dependence of the particular features of the CMB spectrum on the basic cosmological parameters and to estimate the possible accuracy of their determination. I also analyse the degeneracy of the spectrum with respect to certain combinatio…
We use current cosmic microwave background data to constrain cosmological parameters. The results are presented as confidence regions in the ($Ω$--$H_o$) -- plane for both open and flat geometries, and are based on a $χ^2$ minimization to the power spectrum. Although such an approach does not strictly apply to power spectrum estimates, the results should nonetheless be indicative. We find that purely open, low--$Ω$ models are strongly disfavored, due to the position of the ``Doppler Peak'' at high $l$; flat models are less strongly constrained. The parameter space explored is the largest to da…
A method for ray-tracing through n-body simulations has been recently proposed. It is based on a periodic universe covered by simulation boxes. Photons move along appropriate directions to avoid periodicity effects. Here, an improved version of this method is applied to simulate lensed CMB maps and maps of lens deformations. Particle mesh n-body simulations with appropriate boxes and resolutions are used to evolve the nonlinear inhomogeneities until present time. The resulting maps are statistically analyzed to look for deviations from Gaussianity. These deviations are measured --for the first…
Cosmic shear measurements have now improved to the point where they deserve to be treated on par with CMB and galaxy clustering data for cosmological parameter analysis, using the full measured aperture mass variance curve rather than a mere phenomenological parametrization thereof. We perform a detailed 9-parameter analysis of recent lensing (RCS), CMB (up to Archeops) and galaxy clustering (2dF) data, both separately and jointly. CMB and 2dF data are consistent with a simple flat adiabatic scale-invariant model with Omega_Lambda=0.72+/-0.09, omega_cdm=0.115+/- 0.013, omega_b=0.024+/-0.003, a…
We extend the cosmological linear perturbation theory code CMBFAST to closed geometries. This completes the implementation of CMBFAST to all types of geometries and allows the user to perform an unlimited search in the parameter space of models. This will be specially useful for placing confidence limits on cosmological parameters from existing and future data. We discuss some of the technical issues regarding the implementation.
The details of the CMB power spectrum are being revealed through the combined efforts of the world's CMBologists. The current data set constrains several cosmological parameters. A combination with other (non-lensing) constraints yields estimates of the cosmological constant: Omega_Lambda = 0.65 +/- 0.13, the mass density: Omega_m = 0.23 +/- 0.08 and the age of the Universe: t_o = 13.4 +/- 1.6 Gyr. Lensing data is not yet comfortable with these values.
Gravitational lensing, caused by matter perturbations along the line-of-sight to the last scattering surface, can modify the shape of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy power spectrum. We discuss the detectability of lensing distortions to the temperature, polarisation and temperature-polarisation cross-correlation power spectra and we analyse how lensing might affect the estimation of cosmological parameters. For cold dark matter-like models with present-day matter power spectra normalised to match the abundances of rich clusters of galaxies, gravitational lensing causes detecta…
In this work we study the relevance of the component separation technique based on the Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and investigate its performance in the context of a limited sky coverage observation and from the viewpoint of our ability to differentiate between cosmological models with different primordial B-mode content. We focus on the low Galactic emission sky patch, corresponding to the target of several operating and planned CMB experiments and which, in many respects, adequately represents a typical "clean" high latitude sky. We consider two fiducial observations, one operating…
A key prediction of cosmological theories for the origin and evolution of structure in the Universe is the existence of a `Doppler peak' in the angular power spectrum of cosmic microwave background (CMB) fluctuations. We present new results from a study of recent CMB observations which provide the first strong evidence for the existence of a `Doppler Peak' localised in both angular scale and amplitude. This first estimate of the angular position of the peak is used to place a new direct limit on the curvature of the Universe, corresponding to a density of $Ω=0.7^{+0.8}_{-0.5}$, consistent with…
Induced emission due to the presence of soft CMB photons slightly increases the two-photon decay rate of the 2s level of hydrogen defining the rate of cosmological recombination. This correspondingly changes the degree of ionization, the visibility function and the resulting primordial temperature anisotropies and polarization of the CMB on the percent level. These changes exceed the precision of the widely used CMBFAST and CAMB codes by more than one order of magnitude and can be easily taken into account.
Recent cosmic microwave background (CMB) results from BOOMERANG, MAXIMA, and DASI provide cosmological constraints on new physics that can be competitive with those derived from Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN). In particular, both CMB and BBN can be used to place limits on models involving neutrino degeneracy and additional relativistic degrees of freedom. However, for the case of the CMB, these constraints are, in general, sensitive to the assumed priors. We examine the CMB and BBN constraints on such models and study the sensitivity of ``new physics" to the assumed priors. If we add a constra…
Scattering of the temperature anisotropy quadrupole by free electrons in galaxy clusters leads to a secondary polarization signal in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) fluctuations. At low redshifts, the temperature quadrupole contains a significant contribution from the integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect associated with the growth of density fluctuations. Using polarization data from a sample of clusters over a wide range in redshift, one can statistically establish the presence of the ISW effect and determine its redshift evolution. Given the strong dependence of the ISW effect on the ba…
Gravitational lensing distorts the cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature and polarization fields and encodes valuable information on distances and growth rates at intermediate redshifts into the lensed power spectra. The non-Gaussian bandpower covariance induced by the lenses is negligible to l=2000 for all but the B polarization field where it increases the net variance by up to a factor of 10 and favors an observing strategy with 3 times more area than if it were Gaussian. To quantify the cosmological information, we introduce two lensing observables, characterizing nearly all of the…
The WMAP team has recently highlighted the usefulness of combining the Ly-alpha forest constraints with those from the cosmic microwave background (CMB). This combination is particularly powerful as a probe of the primordial shape of the power spectrum. Converting between the Ly-alpha forest observations and the linear mass power spectrum requires a careful treatment of nuisance parameters and modeling with cosmological simulations. We point out several issues which lead to an expansion of the errors, the two most important being the range of cosmological parameters explored in simulations and…
Cosmological magnetic fields induce temperature and polarization fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation. A cosmological magnetic field with current amplitude of order $10^{-9}$ G is detectable via observations of CMB anisotropies. This magnetic field (with or without helicity) generates vector perturbations through vortical motions of the primordial plasma. This paper shows that magnetic field helicity induces parity-odd cross correlations between CMB temperature and $B$-polarization fluctuations and between $E$- and $B$-polarization fluctuations, correlations which ar…
The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is an abundant source of cosmological information. However, this information is encoded in non-trivial ways in a signal that is difficult to observe. The resulting challenges in extracting this information from CMB data sets have created a new frontier. In this talk I will discuss the challenges of CMB data analysis. I review what cosmological information is contained in the CMB data and the problem of extracting it. CMB analyses can be divided into two types: ``canonical'' parameter extraction which seeks to obtain the best possible estimates of cosmologi…
Since the discovery of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) in 1965, characterization of the CMB anisotropy angular power spectrum has become somewhat of a holy grail for experimental cosmology. Because CMB anisotropy measurements are difficult, the full potential of the CMB is only now being realized. Improvements in experimental techniques and detector technology have yielded an explosion of progress in the past couple of years resulting in the ability to use measurements of the CMB to place meaningful constraints on cosmological parameters. In this review, I discuss the theory behind the C…
We report an investigation of cosmological parameters based on the measurements of anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB) made by ACBAR. We use the ACBAR data in concert with other recent CMB measurements to derive Bayesian estimates of parameters in inflation-motivated adiabatic cold dark matter models. We apply a series of additional cosmological constraints on the shape and amplitude of the density power spectrum, the Hubble parameter and from supernovae to further refine our parameter estimates. Previous estimates of parameters are confirmed, with sensitive measureme…
