Coverings in the representation theory of algebras were introduced for the Auslander-Reiten quiver of a representation finite algebra by Riedtmann and later for finite dimensional algebras by Bongartz and Gabriel, R. Martinez-Villa and de la Peña. The best understood class covering functors is that of Galois covering functors F: A -> B determined by the action of a group of automorphisms of A. In this work we introduce the balanced covering functors which include the Galois class and for which classical Galois covering-type results still hold. For instance, if F:A -> B is a balanced covering functor, where A and B are linear categories over an algebraically closed field, and B is tame, then A is tame.
Let $G$ be a group acting on a category $\mathcal{C}$. We give a definition for a functor $F\colon \mathcal{C} \to \mathcal{C}'$ to be a $G$-covering and three constructions of the orbit category $\mathcal{C}/G$, which generalizes the notion of a Galois covering of locally finite-dimensional categories with group $G$ whose action on $\mathcal{C}$ is free and locally bonded defined by Gabriel. Here $\mathcal{C}/G$ is defined for any category $\mathcal{C}$ and we do not require that the action of $G$ is free or locally bounded. We show that a $G$-covering is a universal "$G$-invariant" functor a…
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be a locally bounded $k$-category and $G$ a torsion-free group of $k$-linear automorphisms of $\mathcal{A}$ acting freely on the objects of $\mathcal{A},$ and $F:\mathcal{A}\rightarrow \mathcal{B}$ is a Galois functor. We extend naturally the push-down functor $F_λ$ to the functor $\rm{H}\rm{F}_λ:\rm{H}(\rm{mod}\mbox{-} \mathcal{A})\rightarrow \rm{H}(\rm{mod}\mbox{-} \mathcal{B})$, resp. $\mathcal{S} \rm{F}_λ:\mathcal{S}(\rm{mod}\mbox{-} \mathcal{A})\rightarrow \mathcal{S}(\rm{mod}\mbox{-} \mathcal{B})$, between the corresponding morphism categories, resp. monomorphism catego…
Given a finite dimensional algebra over a perfect field the text introduces covering functors over the mesh category of any modulated Auslander-Reiten component of the algebra. This is applied to study the composition of irreducible morphisms between indecomposable modules in relation with the powers of the radical of the module category.
In this largely expository paper we extend properties of the homological duality functor $RHom_{\mathcal H}(-,{\mathcal H})$ where ${\mathcal H}$ is the Hecke algebra of a reductive $p$-adic group, to the case where it is the Hecke algebra of a finite central extension of a reductive $p$-adic group. The most important properties being that $RHom_{\mathcal H}(-,{\mathcal H})$ is concentrated in a single degree for irreducible representations and that it gives rise to Schneider--Stuhler duality for Ext groups (a Serre functor like property). Along the way we also study Grothendieck--Serre dualit…
We provide an intrinsic definition of the fundamental group of a linear category over a ring as the automorphism group of the fibre functor on Galois coverings. If the universal covering exists, we prove that this group is isomorphic to the Galois group of the universal covering. The grading deduced from a Galois covering enables us to describe the canonical monomorphism from its automorphism group to the first Hochschild-Mitchell cohomology vector space.
This paper concerns preprojective representations of a finite connected valued quiver without oriented cycles. For each such representation, an explicit formula in terms of the geometry of the quiver gives a unique, up to a certain equivalence, shortest (+)-admissible sequence such that the corresponding composition of reflection functors annihilates the representation. The set of equivalence classes of the above sequences is a partially ordered set that contains a great deal of information about the preprojective component of the Auslander-Reiten quiver. The results apply to the study of redu…
We incorporate nonlinear covers of quasisplit reductive groups into the Langlands program, defining an L-group associated to such a cover. This L-group is an extension of the absolute Galois group of a local or global field $F$ by a complex reductive group. The L-group depends on an extension of a quasisplit reductive $F$-group by $\mathbf{K}_2$, a positive integer $n$ (the degree of the cover), an injective character $ε\colon μ_n \rightarrow {\mathbb C}^\times$, and a separable closure of $F$. Our L-group is consistent with previous work on covering groups, and its construction is contravaria…
We prove that the perfect loop functor $LX$ of a quasi-projective scheme $X$ over a local non-archimedean field $k$ satisfies arc-descent, strengthening a result of Drinfeld. Then we prove that for an unramified reductive group $G$, the map $LG \rightarrow L(G/B)$ is a $v$-surjection. This gives a mixed characteristic version (for $v$-topology) of an equal characteristic result (in étale topology) of Bouthier--Česnavičius. In the second part of the article, we use the above results to introduce a well-behaved notion of Deligne--Lusztig spaces $X_w(b)$ attached to unramified $p$-adic reductive …
Clifford theory relates the representation theory of finite groups to those of a fixed normal subgroup by means of induction and restriction, which is an adjoint pair of functors. We generalize this result to the situation of a Krull-Schmidt category on which a finite group acts as automorphisms. This then provides the orbit category introduced by Cibils and Marcos, and studied intensively by Keller in the context of cluster algebras, and by Asashiba in the context of Galois covering functors. We formulate and prove Clifford's theorem for Krull-Schmidt orbit categories with respect to a finite…
These are the notes for a course on representations of quivers for second year students in Paderborn in summer 2007. My aim was to provide a basic introduction without using any advanced methods. It turns out that a good knowledge of linear algebra is sufficient for proving Gabriel's theorem. Thus we classify the quivers of finite representation type and study their representations using reflection functors. Further material has been added after giving this course in Bielefeld in summer 2010. This includes a discussion of regular representations and wild phenomena. In particular, two classical…
In this paper we consider categories over a commutative ring provided either with a free action or with a grading of a not necessarily finite group. We define the smash product category and the skew category and we show that these constructions agree with the usual ones for algebras. In case of the smash product for an infinite group our construction specialized for a ring agrees with M. Beattie's construction of a ring with local units in \cite{be}. We recover in a categorical generalized setting the Duality Theorems of M. Cohen and S. Montgomery in \cite{cm}, and we provide a unification wit…
We introduce parabolic induction and restriction functors for rational Cherednik algebras, and study their basic properties. Then we discuss applications of these functors to representation theory of rational Cherednik algebras. In particular, we prove the Gordon-Stafford theorem about Morita equivalence of the rational Cherednik algebra for type A and its spherical subalgebra, without the assumption that c is not a half-integer, which was required up to now. Also, we classify representations from category O over the rational Cherednik algebras of type A which do not contain an S_n-invariant v…
Half-integral weight modular forms are naturally viewed as automorphic forms on the so-called metaplectic covering of $\operatorname{GL}_2(\mathbf{A}_{\mathbf{Q}})$ -- a central extension by the roots of unity $μ_2$ in $\mathbf{Q}$. For an odd prime number $p$, we give a complete classification of the smooth irreducible genuine mod-$p$ representations of the corresponding covering of $\operatorname{GL}_2(\mathbf{Q}_p)$ by showing that the functor of taking pro-$p$-Iwahori-invariants and its left adjoint define a bijection onto the set of simple right modules of the pro-$p$ Iwahori Hecke algebr…
We prove that the weak associativity for modules for vertex algebras are equivalent to a residue formula for iterates of vertex operators, obtained using the weak associativity and the lower truncation property of vertex operators, together with a known formula expressing products of components of vertex operators as linear combinations of iterates of components of vertex operators. By requiring that these two formulas instead of the commutator formula hold, we construct a functor $S$ from the category of modules for Zhu's algebra of a vertex operator algebra $V$ to the category of $\mathbb{N}…
In this short note we investigate some consequences of the vanishing of simple biset functors. As corollary, if there is no non-trivial vanishing of simple biset functors (e.g. if the group is commutative), then we show that the double Burnside algebra is a quasi-hereditary algebra in characteristic zero. In general, this not true without the non-vanishing condition, as over a field of characteristic zero, the double Burnside algebra of the alternating group of degree 5 has infinite global dimension.
We establish Green equivalences for all Mackey 2-functors, without assuming Krull-Schmidt. By running through the examples of Mackey 2-functors, we recover all variants of the Green equivalence and Green correspondence known in representation theory and obtain new ones in several other contexts. Such applications include equivariant stable homotopy theory in topology and equivariant sheaves in geometry.
Let $\mathcal C$ be category over a commutative ring $k$, its Hochschild-Mitchell homology and cohomology are denoted respectively $HH_*(\mathcal C)$ and $HH^*(\mathcal C).$ Let $G$ be a group acting on $\mathcal C$, and $\mathcal C[G]$ be the skew category. We provide decompositions of the (co)homology of $\mathcal C[G]$ along the conjugacy classes of $G$. For Hochschild homology of a $k$-algebra, this corresponds to the decomposition obtained by M. Lorenz. If the coinvariants and invariants functors are exact, we obtain isomorphisms $\left(HH_*(C)\right)_G\simeq HH^{\{1\}}_* (\mathcal C[G])$…
