Embeddings of the standard model in type II string theory typically contain a variety of U(1) gauge factors arising from D-branes in the bulk. In general, there is no reason why only one of these - the one corresponding to weak hypercharge - should be massless. Observations require that standard model particles must be neutral (or have an extremely small charge) under additional massless U(1)s, i.e. the latter have to belong to a so called hidden sector. The exchange of heavy messengers, however, can lead to a kinetic mixing between the hypercharge and the hidden-sector U(1)s, that is testable with near future experiments. This provides a powerful probe of the hidden sectors and, as a consequence, of the string theory realisation itself. In the present paper, we show, using a variety of methods, how the kinetic mixing can be derived from the underlying type II string compactification, involving supersymmetric and nonsupersymmetric configurations of D-branes, both in large volumes and in warped backgrounds with fluxes. We first demonstrate by explicit example that kinetic mixing occurs in a completely supersymmetric set-up where we can use conformal field theory techniques. We then develop a supergravity approach which allows us to examine the phenomenon in more general backgrounds, where we find that kinetic mixing is natural in the context of flux compactifications. We discuss the phenomenological consequences for experiments at the low-energy frontier, searching for signatures of light, sub-electronvolt or even massless hidden-sector U(1) gauge bosons and minicharged particles.
In models of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking and mediation, strongly coupled SUSY-breaking sectors can play a significant role in determining the low-energy spectrum of the model. For example, strong dynamics may provide a natural solution to both the SUSY flavor problem and the mu / B mu problem. Recently, it has been suggested that a large class of these models lead to identical boundary conditions at the SUSY breaking scale. These boundary conditions would severely constrain the models' viability. We demonstrate that the boundary conditions are instead sensitive to the details of the hidden s…
We argue that the hidden sector potential energy is generically of order the intermediate scale although the true cosmological constant does vanish. This would significantly change the predicted values of soft parameters for a variety of supergravity models including those derived from string theory. We stress that this point is particularly relevant for supergravity models in which the soft masses of observable fields vanish at tree level. Implications of a nonzero hidden sector potential energy for low energy phenomenology are also studied.
We calculate the production rate of gauge-boson pairs at the SSC in a model with a ``hidden'' electroweak symmetry breaking sector. We show that the signal of electroweak symmetry breaking is lower than the background and that we cannot necessarily rely on gauge boson pairs as a signal of the dynamics of symmetry breaking.
We consider the phenomenological consequences of a hidden Higgs sector extending the Standard Model (SM), in which the matter content are uncharged under the SM gauge groups. We consider a simple case where the hidden sector is gauged under a U(1) with one Higgs singlet. The only couplings between SM and the hidden sector are through mixings between the neutral gauge bosons of the two respective sectors, and between the Higgs bosons. We find signals testable at the LHC that can reveal the existence and shed light on the nature of such a hidden sector.
We propose a scenario of gravity mediated supersymmetry breaking (gravity mediation) in a supersymmetric Randall-Sundrum model. In our setup, both of the visible sector and the hidden sector co-exist on the infrared (IR) brane. We introduce the Polonyi model as a simple hidden sector. Due to the warped metric, the effective cutoff scale on the IR brane is ``warped down'', so that the gravity mediation occurs at a low scale. As a result, the gravitino is naturally the lightest superpartner (LSP) and contact interactions between the hidden and the visible sector fields become stronger. We addres…
A hidden valley sector may havea profound impact on the classic phenomenology of supersymmetry. This occurs if the LSP lies in the valley sector. In addition to reducing the standard missing energy signals and possibly providing displaced vertices (phenomena familiar from gauge-mediated and R-parity-violating models) it may lead to a variable multiplicity of new neutral particles, whose decays produce soft jets and/or leptons, and perhaps additional displaced vertices. Combined, these issues might obscure supersymmetric particle production from search strategies used on current Tevatron data a…
We calculate the production rate of gauge-boson pairs at $e^+e^-$ colliders in a model with a ``hidden'' electroweak symmetry breaking sector - i.e. one in which there are a large number of particles in the symmetry breaking sector other than the $W^{\pm}$ \thinspace and the $Z^0$. In such a model, the elastic $W^{\pm}$ \thinspace and $Z^0$ scattering amplitudes are small and structureless, i.e. lacking any discernable resonances, at all energies. We show that two gauge boson fusion signal of electroweak symmetry breaking is swamped by the background. Therefore, we cannot rely on gauge boson p…
I present a class of hidden sector dark matter (DM) models with local dark gauge symmetries, where DM is stable due to unbroken local dark gauge symmetry, or due topology, or it is long-lived because of some accidental symme- tries, and the particle contents and their dynamics are completely fixed by local gauge symmetries. In these models, one have two types of natural force mediators, dark gauge bosons and dark Higgs boson, which would affect DM and Higgs phenomenology in important ways. I discuss various phenomenological issues including the GeV scale gamma-ray excess from the galactic cent…
We study the phenomenology of, and search techniques for, a class of "Hidden Valleys." These models are characterized by low mass (well below a TeV) bound states resulting from a confining gauge interaction in a hidden sector; the states include a spin-one resonance that can decay to lepton pairs. Assuming that the hidden sector communicates to the Standard Model (SM) through TeV suppressed operators, taking into account the constraint from the $Z$ pole physics at LEP, searches at Tevatron may be difficult in the particular class of Hidden Valleys we consider, so that we concentrate on the sea…
Models of secluded dark matter offer a variant on the standard WIMP picture and can modify our expectations for hidden sector phenomenology and detection. In this work we extend a minimal model of secluded dark matter, comprised of a U(1)'-charged dark matter candidate, to include a confining hidden-sector CFT. This provides a technically natural explanation for the hierarchically small mediator-scale, with hidden-sector confinement generating m_{gamma'}>0. Furthermore, the thermal history of the universe can differ markedly from the WIMP picture due to (i) new annihilation channels, (ii) a (p…
In the simplest compactification, we discuss the intermediate unification in M-theory on $S^1/Z_2$, and point out that we can push the eleven dimension Planck scale to the TeV range if the gauge coupling in the hidden sector is super weak, and the particles in the hidden sector might become candidates of dark matter. We also discuss the soft terms in non-standard embedding. To the next leading order, we compactify the perfect square and calculate the gravitino mass. Furthermore, we give the general Kähler potential, gauge kinetic function and superpotential if the next order correction is very…
Many models of Beyond the Standard Model physics contain particles that are charged under both Standard Model and Hidden Valley gauge groups, yet very little effort has been put into establishing their experimental signatures. We provide a general overview of the collider phenomenology of spin 0 or 1/2 mediators with non-trivial gauge numbers under both the Standard Model and a single new confining group. Due to the possibility of many unconventional signatures, the focus is on direct production with semivisible jets. For the mediators to be able to decay, a global $U(1)$ symmetry must be brok…
Some recent developments in the weakly-coupled heterotic string phenomenology are reviewed. We discuss several important issues such as dilaton/moduli stabilization, supersymmetry breaking (by hidden-sector gaugino condensation), gauge coupling unification (or the Newton's constant), the QCD axion, as well as cosmological problems involving the dilaton/moduli and the axion.
We investigate the detailed phenomenology of a light Abelian hidden sector in the Randall-Sundrum framework. Relative to other works with light hidden sectors, the main new feature is a tower of hidden Kaluza-Klein vectors that kinetically mix with the Standard Model photon and Z. We investigate the decay properties of the hidden sector fields in some detail, and develop an approach for calculating processes initiated on the ultraviolet brane of a warped space with large injection momentum relative to the infrared scale. Using these results, we determine the detailed bounds on the light warped…
We investigate the phenomenology of an extension of the Standard Model (SM) by a non-abelian gauge group $SU(2)_{HS}$ where all SM particles are singlets under this gauge group, and a new scalar representation $ϕ$ that is singlet under SM gauge group and doublet under $SU(2)_{HS}$. In this model, the dark matter (DM) candidates are the three mass degenerate dark photons $A_{i}$ $(i=1,2,3)$ of $SU(2)_{HS}$; and the hidden sector interacts with the (SM) particles through the Higgs portal interactions. Consequently, there will be a new CP-even scalar $η$ that could be either heavier or lighter th…
We discuss the phenomenology of a three-family supersymmetric Standard-like Model derived from the orientifold construction, in which the ordinary chiral states are localized at the intersection of branes at angles. In addition to the Standard Model group, there are two additional U(1)' symmetries, one of which has family non-universal and therefore flavor changing couplings, and a quasi-hidden non-abelian sector which becomes strongly coupled above the electroweak scale. The perturbative spectrum contains a fourth family of exotic (SU(2)- singlet) quarks and leptons, in which, however, the le…
The presence of a hidden sector with very weak interactions with the standard model has significant implications on LHC signatures. In this work we discuss LHC phenomenology with the inclusion of a hidden sector by a $U(1)$ extension of MSSM/SUGRA. We consider both kinetic mixing and Stueckelberg mass mixing between the $U(1)$ gauge field of the hidden sector and $U(1)_Y$ of the visible sector. Such a model has an extended parameter space. We consider here two limited regions of this parameter space. In the first case we consider a $U(1)$ gauge field along with chiral fields needed for the Stu…
Extra "hidden" U(1) gauge factors are a generic feature of string theory that is of particular phenomenological interest. They can kinetically mix with the Standard Model photon and are thereby accessible to a wide variety of astrophysical and cosmological observations and laboratory experiments. In this paper we investigate the masses and the kinetic mixing of hidden U(1)s in LARGE volume compactifications of string theory. We find that in these scenarios the hidden photons can be naturally light and that their kinetic mixing with the ordinary electromagnetic photon can be of a size interesti…
A preliminary investigation of a large class of Hidden Valley models is presented. These models are more challenging than those considered in arXiv:0712.2041 [hep-ph]; although they produce a new light resonance which decays to heavy standard model fermions, they exhibit no light dilepton resonance. A heavy $Z'$ decaying to v-hadrons, which in turn decay mainly to bottom quarks and tau leptons, is considered; six case studies are investigated, using a new Monte Carlo simulation package. It is found that the one-to-one correspondence of jets and partons is badly broken, and the high-multiplicit…
Ultraviolet physics typically induces a kinetic mixing between gauge singlets which is marginal and hence non-decoupling in the infrared. In singlet extensions of the minimal supersymmetric standard model, e.g. the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model, this furnishes a well motivated and distinctive portal connecting the visible sector to any hidden sector which contains a singlet chiral superfield. In the presence of singlet kinetic mixing, the hidden sector automatically acquires a light mass scale in the range 0.1 - 100 GeV induced by electroweak symmetry breaking. In theories with…
We propose a model where the anapole appears as a hidden photon that is coupled to visible matter through a kinetic mixing. For low momentum $|{\bf p}| \ll M$ where $M$ is the cutoff the model (soft hidden photons limit) is reduced to the Ho-Scherrer description. We show that the hidden gauge boson is stable and therefore the hidden photons, indeed, are candidates for dark matter. Our approach shows that anapole and kinetic mixing terms are equivalent descriptions seen from different scales of energy.
We postulate an exact permutation symmetry acting on 10^32 Standard Model copies as the largest possible symmetry extension of the Standard Model. This setup automatically lowers the fundamental gravity cutoff down to TeV, and thus, accounts for the quantum stability of the weak scale. We study the phenomenology of this framework and show that below TeV energies the copies are well hidden, obeying all the existing observational bounds. Nevertheless, we identify a potential low energy window into the hidden world, the oscillation of the neutron into its dark copies. At the same time, proton dec…
The Hidden Abelian Higgs Model (HAHM) is an extension of the Standard Model based on the gauge group $G =SU(3)_{C} \times SU(2)_{L} \times U(1)_{Y} \times U(1)_{X}$ i.e. an extra $U(1)_{X}$ gauge group in addition to the SM gauge groups. In HAHM, an Abelian Hidden sector is coupled to the SM, and the resulting new Higgs boson H and new neutral gauge boson $Z_{HAHM}$ fields are allowed to mix with the corresponding SM fields. In this work, we search for the new neutral gauge boson $Z_{HAHM}$ and new Higgs boson in the context of the Hidden Abelian Higgs Model (HAHM) through the decay process $pp…
We derive various solutions for the gauge field and the gaugino when there are both 5D bulk kinetic terms and 4D brane kinetic terms. Below the compactification scale $1/y_c$, gauge interaction by the massless mode is universal, independent of the locations of sources, but above $1/y_c$, the interaction distinguishes their locations. We consider the $S^1/(Z_2\times Z_2')$ orbifold compactification, in which N=2 SUSY and SU(2) gauge symmetry break down to N=1 and U(1), respectively. While the odd parity gauge fields under $Z_2$, $A^1_μ$ and $A^2_μ$, interact with the bulk gauge coupling $g^2$, …
Light moduli fields in string compactifications can have interesting implications for particle physics and cosmology. Fifth force bounds impose stringent constraints on the interactions of such moduli with the visible sector. To be consistent with the bounds, they need to be part of hidden sectors which interact with the Standard Model with weaker-than-Planck suppressed interactions. We consider scenarios in which the visible sector degrees of freedom are localised in the compactification and light moduli arise as closed string degrees of freedom associated with hidden sectors which are geomet…
We analyze LHC data in order to constrain the parameter space of new spin-2 particles universally coupled to the energy-momentum tensor. These new hypothetical particles are the so-called hidden gravitons, whose phenomenology at low energies is determined by two parameters: its mass and its dimensional coupling constant. Hidden gravitons arise in many different extensions of the Standard Model of particles and interactions and General Relativity. Their phenomenology has been studied mainly in relation to modifications of gravity and astrophysical signatures. In this work, we extend the constra…
It is known that hidden U(1) gauge factors can couple to visible U(1)'s through Kinetic Mixing. This phenomenon is shown generically to occur in nonsupersymmetric string set-ups, between branes and antibranes. Kinetic Mixing acts either to give millicharges (of e.g. hypercharge) to would-be hidden sector fermions, or to generate an enhanced communication of supersymmetry breaking that dominates over the usual gravitational suppression. In either case, the conclusion is that the string scale in nonsupersymmetric brane configurations has a generic upper bound of M_s <~ 10^8 GeV.
In this talk we discuss the phenomenology of models with replicated electroweak gauge symmetries, based on a framework with the gauge structure [SU(2) or U(1)] x U(1) x SU(2) x SU(2).
Numerous papers deal with the phenomenology related to photon-hidden photon kinetic mixing and with the effects of a mass mixing on particle-hidden particle oscillations. In addition, recent papers underline the existence of a geometrical mixing between branes which would allow a matter swapping between branes. These approaches and their phenomenologies are reminiscent of each other but rely on different physical concepts. In the present paper, we suggest there is no rivalry between these models, which are probably many faces of the same physics. We discuss some phenomenological consequences o…
The weakly coupled vacuum of $E_8\otimes E_8$ heterotic string theory remains an attractive scenario for particle physics. The particle spectrum and the issue of dilaton stabilization are reviewed. A specific model for hidden sector condensation and supersymmetry breaking, that respects known constraints from string theory, is described, and its phenomenological and cosmological implications are discussed.
We study a model where photons interact with hidden photons and millicharged particles through a kinetic mixing term. Particularly, we focus in vacuum birefringence effects and we find a bound for the millicharged parameter assuming that hidden photons are a piece of the local dark matter density
An analysis is given of the Stueckelberg extension of the Standard Model with a hidden sector gauge group $U(1)_X$ where the mass growth for the extra gauge boson occurs via the Stueckelberg mechanism, and where the kinetic mixing in the $U(1)_X\times U(1)_Y$ sector is included. Such a kinetic mixing is generic in a broad class of supergravity and string models. We carry out a detailed global fit of the model with the precision LEP data on and off the $Z$ pole, with $χ^2$ within 1% of the $χ^2$ of the Standard Model fit. Further, it is shown that in the absence of matter in the hidden sector, …
We explore the Dirac fermionic and complex scalar dark matter in the framework of a hidden $\mathrm{U}(1)_\mathrm{X}$ gauge theory with kinetic mixing between the $\mathrm{U}(1)_\mathrm{X}$ and $\mathrm{U}(1)_\mathrm{Y}$ gauge fields. The $\mathrm{U}(1)_\mathrm{X}$ gauge symmetry is spontaneously broken due to a hidden Higgs field. The kinetic mixing provides a portal between dark matter and standard model particles. Besides, an additional Higgs portal can be realized in the complex scalar case. Dark matter interactions with nucleons are typically isospin violating, and direct detection constr…
We show that the 750 GeV diphoton excess can be explained by introducing vector-like quarks and hidden fermions charged under a hidden U(1) gauge symmetry, which has a relatively large coupling constant as well as a significant kinetic mixing with U(1)$_Y$. With the large kinetic mixing, the standard model gauge couplings unify around $10^{17}$ GeV, suggesting the grand unified theory without too rapid proton decay. Our scenario predicts events with a photon and missing transverse momentum, and its cross section is related to that for the diphoton excess through the kinetic mixing. We also dis…
Little experimental data bears on the question of whether there is a spontaneously broken hidden sector that has no Standard Model quantum numbers. Here we discuss the prospects of finding evidence for such a hidden sector through renormalizable interactions of the Standard Model Higgs boson with a Higgs boson of the hidden sector. We find that the lightest Higgs boson in this scenario has smaller rates in standard detection channels, and it can have a sizeable invisible final state branching fraction. Details of the hidden sector determine whether the overall width of the lightest state is sm…
We study the phenomenology of a class of models describing modular invariant gaugino condensation in the hidden sector of a low-energy effective theory derived from the heterotic string. Placing simple demands on the resulting observable sector - such as proper electroweak symmetry-breaking, superpartner spectra consistent with current limits and neutralino relic densities of an acceptable magnitude - results in significant restrictions on the possible configurations of the hidden sector.
We analyze the neutrino phenomenology in an $SU(5)$ F-theory model with both a visible sector and a twin hidden sector. At low energies, the strong and weak scales of the two sectors may differ but the spectrum of states is described by the MSSM (MSSM$^\prime$) in the visible (twin) sectors. What is special about the model is that there are right-handed neutrinos which couple to both sectors via Yukawa couplings. As a result, assuming 3 right-handed neutrinos with a large mass much greater than the weak scale, at tree-level the seesaw mechanism results in 3 massive Majorana neutrinos and 3 mas…
We apply the Festina Lente (FL) bound on a hidden sector with $U(1)$ gauge symmetries. Since the FL bound puts a lower bound on masses of particles charged under the $U(1)$ gauge symmetries, it is possible to constrain the hidden sector even with a tiny coupling to the Standard Model. In particular, we focus on the phenomenological implications of the FL bound on milli-charged particles, which naturally arise when kinetic mixing between the photon and the hidden photon is allowed. It turns out that the milli-charged particle with the mass $M\lesssim 5$ meV is prohibited by the FL bound in the …
The existence of dark sectors, consisting of weakly-coupled particles that do not interact with the known Standard Model forces, is theoretically and phenomenologically motivated. The hidden particles are candidates for Dark Matter and can interact with photon through electric dipole moment (EDM) and magnetic dipole moment (MDM). We investigate the possibility a hidden sector's Dark Matter which is charged under a hidden $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry can interact with photon at loop level. We evaluate the scattering cross section of hidden Dirac fermion with nuclei and set bounds for dipole moment. …
Dark photons (DP) are interesting as potential mediators between the dark matter (DM) sector and the fields of the Standard Model (SM). The interaction of the DP, described by a broken $U(1)_D$ gauge symmetry, with the SM is usually generated at the one-loop level via kinetic mixing through the existence of portal matter (PM), here assumed to be fermionic, which carries both a dark charge as well as a SM $U(1)_Y$ hypercharge. For theoretical consistency, as well as for many phenomenological reasons, this PM must be vector-like with respect to the SM and dark gauge groups and, in particular, is…
We consider a hidden sector model of dark matter which is charged under a hidden U(1)_X gauge symmetry. Kinetic mixing of U(1)_X with the Standard Model hypercharge U(1)_Y is allowed to provide communication between the hidden sector and the Standard Model sector. We present various limits on the kinetic mixing parameter and the hidden gauge coupling constant coming from various low energy observables, electroweak precision tests, and the right thermal relic density of the dark matter. Saturating these constraints, we show that the spin-independent elastic cross section of the dark matter off …
We study the phenomenology of a class of models describing modular invariant gaugino condensation in the hidden sector of a low-energy effective theory derived from the heterotic string. Placing simple demands on the resulting observable sector, such as a supersymmetry-breaking scale of approximately 1 TeV, a vacuum with properly broken electroweak symmetry, superpartner masses above current direct search limits, etc., results in significant restrictions on the possible configurations of the hidden sector.
A version of M-theory phenomenology is proposed in which the symmetry is based on the group $SO(10) \times SO(10) \times SO(10) \times U(1) \times U(1)$. Each SO(10) group acts on a single generation. The $U(1) \times U(1)$ is regarded as the hidden sector symmetry group. The supersymmetry is broken in the hidden sector by the Fayet-Iliopoulos $D$-term for each group. The $D$-term is needed also to circumvent the powerful non-renormalization theorem since the $SO(10) \times SO(10) \times SO(10)$ is broken down to the usual SO(10) by the pair condensation of certain messenger sector multiplets.…
We consider a hidden sector with new vectorlike confining gauge theories like QCD. Then a scale $Λ_H$ would be generated in the hidden sector by dimensional transmutation, and chiral symmetry breaking occurs in the hidden sector. Then this scale $Λ_H$ can play a role of the SM Higgs mass parameter, triggering electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB). Thus all the mass scales of the SM sector can arise from the hidden sector. Furthermore the lightest hadrons in the hidden sector is stable by the flavor conservation of the hidden sector strong interaction, and could be the cold dark matter (CDM). We…
Many models of physics beyond the Standard Model predict minicharged particles to which current and near future low-energy experiments are highly sensitive. Such minicharges arise generically from kinetic-mixing in theories containing at least two U(1) gauge factors. Here, we point out that the required multiple U(1) factors, the size of kinetic-mixing, and suitable matter representations to allow for a detection in the near future occur naturally in the context of string theory embeddings of the Standard Model. A detection of minicharged particles in a low energy experiment would likely be a …
We present a SUSY breaking scenario based on Abelian gaugino kinetic term mixings between hidden and observable sectors. If an extra U(1) gaugino in the observable sector obtains a large mass through this mixing effect based on SUSY breaking in the hidden sector, soft SUSY breaking parameters in the MSSM may be affected by radiative effects due to this gaugino mass. New phenomenological aspects are discussed in such a SUSY breaking scenario.
It is possible that the standard model is coupled, through new massive charged or colored particles, to a hidden sector whose low energy dynamics is controlled by a pure Yang-Mills theory, with no light matter. Such a sector would have numerous metastable "hidden glueballs" built from the hidden gluons. These states would decay to particles of the standard model. We consider the phenomenology of this scenario, and find formulas for the lifetimes and branching ratios of the most important of these states. The dominant decays are to two standard model gauge bosons, or by radiative decays with ph…
In relativistic heavy ion collisions, a highly occupied gluonic matter is created shortly after initial impact, which is in a non-thermal state and often referred to as the Glasma. Successful phenomenology suggests that the glasma evolves rather quickly toward the thermal quark-gluon plasma and a hydrodynamic behavior emerges at very early time $\sim \hat{o}(1)$ fm/c. Exactly how such "apparent thermalization" occurs and connects the initial conditions to the hydrodynamic onset, remains a significant challenge for theory as well as phenomenology. We briefly review various ideas and recent prog…
We add fermions to an abelian-gauged hidden sector. We show that the lightest can be the dark matter with the right thermal relic abundance, and discovery is within reach of upcoming dark matter detectors. We also show that these fermions change Higgs boson phenomenology at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and in particular could induce a large invisible width to the lightest Higgs boson state. Such an invisibly decaying Higgs boson can be discovered with good significance in the vector boson fusion channel at the LHC.
We consider a hidden sector with a vectorlike confining gauge theory like QCD with $N_{h,c}$ colors and $N_{h,f}$ light quarks ${\cal Q}_h$ in the hidden sector. Then a scale $Λ_H$ would be generated by dimensional transmutation, and chiral symmetry breaking occurs in the hidden sector. This scale $Λ_H$ can play a role of the SM Higgs mass parameter, triggering electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB). Furthermore the lightest mesons in the hidden sector is stable by flavor conservation of the hidden sector strong interaction, and could be a good cold dark matter (CDM). We study collider phenomeno…
We consider a generic abelian hidden sector that couples to the Standard Model only through gauge-invariant renormalizable operators. This allows the exotic Higgs boson to mix with the Standard Model Higgs boson, and the exotic abelian gauge boson to mix with the Standard Model hypercharge gauge boson. One immediate consequence of spontaneous breaking of the hidden sector gauge group is the possible decay of the lightest Higgs boson into four fermions through intermediate exotic gauge bosons. We study the implications of this decay for Higgs boson phenomenology at the Fermilab Tevatron Collide…
Recently, conceptually new physics beyond the Standard Model has been proposed, where a hidden conformal sector provides ``unparticle'' which couples to the Standard Model sector through higher dimensional operators in low energy effective theory. Among several possibilities, we focus on operators involving unparticle, the Higgs doublet and the gauge bosons. Once the Higgs doublet develops the vacuum expectation value, the conformal symmetry is broken and as a result, the mixing between unparticle and Higgs boson emerges. We find that this mixing can cause sizable shifts for the couplings betw…
We investigate a scenario where the dark matter of the Universe is made from very light hidden photons transforming under a $Z_{2}$-symmetry. In contrast to the usual situation, kinetic mixing is forbidden by the symmetry and the dark photon interacts with the Standard Model photon only via an axion-like particle acting as a "messenger". Focusing on signatures involving the ordinary photon, our survey of the phenomenology includes limits from cosmological stability, CMB distortions, astrophysical energy loss, light-shining-through-walls experiments, helioscopes and solar X-ray observations.
We re-examine solar emission of hidden photons gamma' (mass m) caused by kinetic mixing. We calculate the emission rate with thermal field theory methods and with a kinetic equation that includes "flavor oscillations" and photon absorption and emission by the thermal medium. In the resonant case both methods yield identical emission rates which, in the longitudinal channel, are enhanced by a factor w_P^2/m^2 (plasma frequency w_P) in agreement with An, Pospelov and Pradler (2013). The Sun must not emit more energy in a "dark channel" than allowed by solar neutrino measurements, i.e., not more …
We study the phenomenology of a light (GeV scale) sterile neutrino sector and the pseudo-Goldstone boson (not the majoron) associated with a global symmetry in this sector that is broken at a high scale. Such scenarios can be motivated from considerations of singlet fermions from a hidden sector coupling to active neutrinos via heavy right-handed seesaw neutrinos, effectively giving rise to a secondary, low-energy seesaw framework. Such scenarios allow for rich phenomenology with observable implications for cosmology, dark matter, and direct searches, involving novel sterile neutrino dark matt…
We propose a model of neutrino mass generation in extra dimension. Allowing a large lepton number violation on a distant brane spatially separated from the standard model brane, a small neutrino mass is naturally generated due to an exponential suppression of the messenger field in the 5D bulk. The model accommodates a large Yukawa coupling with the singlet neutrino (n_R) which may change the standard Higgs search and can simultaneously accommodate visible lepton number violation at the electroweak scale, which leads to very interesting phenomenology at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.
