Recently, a new class of $W$-states has been defined by Agarwal and Pati \cite{agarwal} and it has been shown that they can be used as a quantum channel for teleportation and superdense coding. In this work, we identify those three-qubit states from the set of the new class of $W$-states which are most efficient or suitable for quantum teleportation. We show that with some probability $|W_1>=(1/2)(|100>+|010>+\sqrt{2}|001>)$ is best suited for teleportation channel in the sense that it does not depend on the input state.
In this paper, based on the notion of pseudomode framework introduced by Garraway in [Phys. Rev. A 55, 2290 (1997)], we propose a mechanism for enhancing the efficiency of excitation energy transport in a spin channel which is in contact with a Lorentzian reservoir, through the inclusion of other similar auxiliary spin chains into the reservoir. To this aim, a Lindblad-type master equation for the dynamics of the transport process is provided on the basis of pseudomode approach. It is figured out that increasing the number of auxiliary chains in the reservoir enhances the efficiency of transpo…
Quantum-correlated photon sources provide a means of suppressing multiple photon emission and thus improving the security and efficiency of quasi single-photon quantum key distribution systems. We present illustrative photon-counting statistics for a Poissonian source conditioned by photon number measurements on a fully correlated twin beam with a non-ideal photon counter. We show that high photon counting efficiency is needed to obtain significant improvement in channel efficiency (bits per symbol) and/or security (in the form of reduced Shannon entropy leakage) over a single beam source.
We examine the efficiency of pure, nondegenerate quantum-error correction-codes for Pauli channels. Specifically, we investigate if correction of multiple errors in a block is more efficient than using a code that only corrects one error per block. Block coding with multiple-error correction cannot increase the efficiency when the qubit error-probability is below a certain value and the code size fixed. More surprisingly, existing multiple-error correction codes with a code length equal or less than 256 qubits have lower efficiency than the optimal single-error correcting codes for any value o…
We developed a four-channel superconducting nanowire single-photon detector system based on a Gifford-McMahon cryocooler. All channels showed a system detection efficiency (at a 100 Hz dark-count rate) higher than 16% at 1550 nm wavelength, and the best channel showed a system DE of 21% and 30% at 1550 nm and 1310 nm wavelength, respectively.
We analyze the communication efficiency of quantum information transfer along unmodulated spin chains by computing the communication rates of various protocols. The effects of temporal correlations are discussed, showing that they can be exploited to boost the transmission efficiency.
We investigate the dense coding in the case of non-symmetric Hilbert spaces of the sender and receiver's particles sharing the quantum maximally entangled state. The efficiency of classical information gain is also considered. We conclude that when a more level particle is with the sender, she can get a non-symmetric quantum channel from a symmetric one by entanglement transfer. Thus the efficiency of information transmission is improved.

Modern applications of quantum control in quantum information science and technology require the precise characterization of quantum states and quantum channels. In particular, high-performance quantum state engineering often demands that quantum states are transferred with optimal efficiency via realizable controlled evolution, the latter often modeled by quantum channels. When an appropriate quantum control model for an interested system is constructed, the exploration of optimal bounds on state transfer for the underlying quantum channel is then an important task. In this work, we analyze t…
We have investigated the efficiency of pulsed Raman sideband cooling in the presence of multiple decay and excitation channels. By applying sum rules we identify parameter regimes in which multiple scattering of photons can be described by an effective wave vector. Using this method we determine the rate of heating caused by optical pumping inside and outside the Lamb-Dicke regime. On this basis we discuss also the efficiency of a recently proposed scheme for ground-state cooling outside the Lamb-Dicke regime [G. Morigi, J.I. Cirac, M. Lewenstein, and P. Zoller, Europhys. Lett. {\bf 39}, 13 (1…
Scattering of light by cloud, haze, and fog decreases the transmission efficiency of communication channels in quantum key distribution (QKD), reduces the system's practical security, and thus constrains the deployment of free-space QKD. Here, we employ the wavefront shaping technology to compensate distorted optical signals in high-loss scattering quantum channels and fulfill a polarization-encoded BB84 QKD experiment. With this quantum channel compensation technology, we achieve a typical enhancement of about 250 in transmission efficiency and improve the secure key rate from 0 to $1.85\time…
Quantum technologies rely on the ability to coherently manipulate, process and transfer information, encoded in quantum states, along quantum channels. Decoherence induced by the environment introduces errors, thus setting limits on the efficiency of any quantum-enhanced protocol or device. A fundamental bound on the ability of a noisy quantum channel to transmit quantum (classical) information is given by its quantum (classical) capacity. Generally, the longer is a quantum channel the more are the introduced errors, and hence the worse is its capacity. In this Letter we show that for non-Mark…
Up-conversion single photon detector (UCSPD) has been widely used in many research fields including quantum key distribution (QKD), lidar, optical time domain reflectrometry (OTDR) and deep space communication. For the first time in laboratory, we have developed an integrated four-channel all-fiber UCSPD which can work in both free-running and gate modes. This compact module can satisfy different experimental demands with adjustable detection efficiency and dark count. We have characterized the key parameters of the UCSPD system.
In quantum information theory, it is important to find modulations with low information loss for noisy channels. In this paper, using the quantum dynamical entropy and the quantum dynamical mutual entropy, we investigate the transmission efficiency of two quantum modulators through attenuation channels.
Quantum entanglement serves as a valuable resource for many important quantum operations. A pair of entangled qubits can be shared between two agents by first preparing a maximally entangled qubit pair at one agent, and then sending one of the qubits to the other agent through a quantum channel. In this process, the deterioration of entanglement is inevitable since the noise inherent in the channel contaminates the qubit. To address this challenge, various quantum entanglement distillation (QED) algorithms have been developed. Among them, recurrence algorithms have advantages in terms of imple…
We report a compact, scalable, and high-performance superconducting nanowire single-photon detector (SNSPD) array by using a multichannel optical fiber array-coupled configuration. For single pixels with an active area of 18 um in diameter and illuminated at the telecom wavelength of 1550 nm, we achieved a pixel yield of 13/16 on one chip, an average system detection efficiency of 69% at a dark count rate of 160 cps, a minimum timing jitter of 74 ps, and a maximum count rate of ~40 Mcps. The optical crosstalk coefficient between adjacent channels is better than -60 dB. The performance of the f…
This work considers the distribution of a secret key over an optical (bosonic) channel in the regime of high photon efficiency, i.e., when the number of secret key bits generated per detected photon is high. While in principle the photon efficiency is unbounded, there is an inherent tradeoff between this efficiency and the key generation rate (with respect to the channel bandwidth). We derive asymptotic expressions for the optimal generation rates in the photon-efficient limit, and propose schemes that approach these limits up to certain approximations. The schemes are practical, in the sense …
