In this article, we investigate the contribution of the higher twist Feynman diagrams to the large-$p_T$ inclusive pion production cross section in proton-proton collisions and present the general formulae for the higher twist differential cross sections in the case of the running coupling and frozen coupling approaches. The structure of infrared renormalon singularities of the higher twist subprocess cross section and the resummed expression (the Borel sum) for it are found. We compared the resummed higher twist cross sections with the ones obtained in the framework of the frozen coupling approximation and leading twist cross section. We obtain, that ratio $R$ for all values of the transverse momentum $p_{T}$ of the pion identical equivalent to ratio $r$. It is shown that the resummed result depends on the choice of the meson wave functions used in calculation. Phenomenological effects of the obtained results are discussed.
We discuss the possibility of measuring generalized parton distributions in exclusive electroproduction of mesons off the nucleon and estimate the uncertainty from perturbatively induced higher-twist corrections. We find that, while the magnitude of the cross section changes significantly taking into account twist-four contributions modeled via renormalons, the transverse spin asymmetry is weakly sensitive to them and displays the precocious scaling.
The pion and kaon electromagnetic form factors $F_M(Q^2)$ are calculated at the leading order of pQCD using the running coupling constant method. In calculations a dependence of the mesons distribution amplitudes on the hard scale $Q^2$ is taken into account. The Borel transform and resummed expression for $F_M(Q^2)$ are found.
Single pseudoscalar and vector mesons inclusive photoproduction $γh\rightarrow MX$ via higher twist mechanism is calculated using the QCD running coupling constant method. It is proved that in the context of this method a higher twist contribution to the photoproduction cross section cannot be normalized in terms of the meson electromagnetic form factor. The structure of infrared renormalon singularities of the higher twist subprocess cross section and the resummed expression (the Borel sum) for it are found. Comparisons are made with earlier results, as well as with leading twist cross sectio…
Single pseudoscalar and vector mesons hard semi-inclusive photoproduction $γh \to MX" via higher twist (HT) mechanism is calculated using the QCD running coupling constant method. The structure of infrared renormalon singularities of the HT subprocess cross section and the Borel sum for it are found. The problem of normalization of HT process cross section in terms of the meson elm form factor is discussed.
This paper contains our comments on the work of the authors A. I. Ahmadov \textit{et al.} "Single meson production in photon-photon collisions and infrared renormalons" [arXiv:0911.5226v1 27 Nov 2009]. We draw attention to errors made in this work in calculation of the subprocess cross sections within the frozen and running coupling approaches, in deriving the Borel transforms and Borel resummed expressions for the cross sections in the running coupling approach. We show that the same fatal errors were made by these authors also in their work published in Phys. Rev. D80, 016003 (2009).

The Borel summation technique of infrared renormalons is applied to the lattice determination of heavy quark mass. With Borel summation a physical heavy quark pole mass and binding energy of a heavy-light meson can be defined in a rigorous and calculable manner. A notable feature of the Borel summation, compared to the usual perturbative cancellation of IR renormalons, is an automatic scale separation. The two approaches of handling renormalon divergence are compared in the B-meson as well as in an (imaginary) heavy-light meson with a mass much larger than the inverse of the lattice spacing.
I illustrate the role of infrared renormalons in computing inclusive B-decay spectra. I explain the relation between the leading ambiguity in the definition of Sudakov form factor \sim \exp(NΛ/M) and that of the pole mass, and show how these ambiguities cancel out between the perturbative and non-perturbative components of the b-quark distribution in the meson.
We present a Borel resummation method for the QCD corrections in inclusive, charmless, semileptonic B meson decay. The renormalon contributions are resummed to all orders by employing a bilocal expansion of the Borel transform that accurately accounts for the first infrared renormalons in the Borel plane. The renormalons in the pole mass and the QCD expansion are resummed separately, and a precise relation is obtained between a properly defined pole mass and the ${\bar {\rm MS}}$ mass. The inclusive decay rate is calculated to three loop order using an estimate of the yet unknown NNLO coeffici…
Using the renormalon calculus, we study the asymptotic behavior of the perturbative expansion of the hard-scattering kernels entering the QCD factorization formula for the nonleptonic weak decays B->D M, where M is a light meson. In the ``large-beta_0 limit'', the kernels are infrared finite and free of endpoint singularities to all orders of perturbation theory. The leading infrared renormalon singularity corresponding to a power correction of order Lambda/m_b vanishes if the light meson has a symmetric light-cone distribution amplitude. We calculate the Borel transforms and the corresponding…
Power corrections to exclusive processes are usually calculated using models for twist-four distribution amplitudes (DA) which are based on the leading-order terms in the conformal expansion. In this work we develop a different approach which does not rely on conformal symmetry but is based instead on renormalon analysis. This way we obtain an upper bound for the contributions of higher conformal spin operators, which translates into a bound on the end--point behavior of DA. The existence of such a bound is important for proving factorization theorems. For the two-particle twist-four DA we fin…
The inclusive spectra of radiative and semi-leptonic B-meson decays near the endpoint is computed taking into account renormalons in the Sudakov exponent (Dressed Gluon Exponentiation). In this framework we demonstrate the factorization of decay spectra into hard, jet and soft functions and discuss the universality of the latter two. Going beyond perturbation theory the soft function, which we identify as the longitudinal momentum distribution in an on-shell b quark, is replaced by the b-quark distribution in the B meson. The two differ by power corrections. We show how the resummation of runn…
We present a systematic study of twist-4 light-cone distribution amplitudes of the $K^*$ and $ϕ$ meson in QCD. The structure of SU(3)-breaking corrections is studied in detail. Non-perturbative input parameters are estimated from QCD sum rules and a renormalon based model. As a by-product, we give a complete reanalysis of the parameters of the twist-4 $ρ$-meson distribution amplitudes.
We present a systematic study of twist-3 and twist-4 light-cone distribution amplitudes of the K meson in QCD. The structure of SU(3)-breaking corrections is studied in detail. Non-perturbative input parameters are estimated from QCD sum rules and renormalons. As a by-product, we give a complete reanalysis of the twist-3 and -4 parameters of the pi-meson distribution amplitudes; some of the results differ from those usually quoted in the literature.
Power corrections to the Q**2 behaviour of the low-order moments of both the longitudinal and transverse structure functions of proton and deuteron have been investigated using available phenomenological fits of existing data in the Q**2 range between 1 and 20 (GeV/c)**2. The Natchmann definition of the moments has been adopted for disentangling properly target-mass and dynamical higher-twist effects in the data. The leading twist has been treated at next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant and the effects of higher orders of the perturbative series have been estimated using a ren…
The renormalon calculus is used to calculate the terms of order $β_0^{n-1}α_s^n$ in the perturbative expansions of the Wilson coefficients and hard-scattering kernels entering the QCD factorization formula for hadronic B-meson decays into two light pseudoscalar mesons. The asymptotic behavior of the expansions is analyzed, and a minimal model of power corrections arising from soft ``non-factorizable'' gluon exchange to the B->pi K,pi pi decay amplitudes is obtained, which takes into account the structure of the leading and subleading infrared renormalon singularities. Whereas the resulting pow…
Photoproduction of vector mesons are computed in dipole model in proton-proton ultraperipheral collisions(UPCs) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The dipole model framework is employed in the calculations of vector mesons production in diffractive processes. Parameters of the bCGC model are refitted with the latest inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data. Employing the bCGC model and Boosted Gaussian light-cone wave function for vector mesons, we obtain prediction of rapidity distributions of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2s)$ mesons in proton-proton ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC. …
We consider the simultaneous production of two heavy-flavoured hadrons - particularly D mesons - at the LHC. We base our calculations on collinearly factorized QCD at next-to-leading order, using the contemporary parton distribution functions and D-meson fragmentation functions. The contributions of double-parton scatterings are included in the approximation of independent partonic interactions. Our framework benchmarks well with the available proton-proton data from the LHCb collaboration giving us confidence to make predictions for proton-lead collisions. Our results indicate that the double…
We calculate the cross sections for both electromagnetic and diffractive dissociation of protons for semiexclusive production of $J/ψ$ mesons in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. Several differential distributions in missing mass ($M_X$), or single-particle variables related exclusively to the $J/ψ$ meson are calculated for $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV as an example. The cross sections and distributions are compared to the cross section of the purely exclusive reaction $p p \to p p J/ψ$. We show the corresponding ratio as a function of $J/ψ$ meson rapidity. We compare the distributions for purely ele…
We calculate the contribution of the higher-twist Feynman diagrams to the large-$p_T$ inclusive gluon production cross-section in $πp$ collisions in case of the running coupling and frozen coupling approaches within perturbative and holographic QCD. The structure of infrared renormalon singularities of the higher-twist subprocess cross-section is obtained and the resummed higher-twist cross- sections (Borel sum) with the ones obtained in the framework of the frozen coupling approach and leading-twist cross-section are compared and analyzed.
We compute the inclusive cross-section of $f_{2}$ tensor mesons production in proton-proton collisions at high-energy. We use an effective theory inspired from the tensor meson dominance hypothesis that couples gluons to $f_{2}$ mesons. We compute the differential cross-section in the $k_{\perp}$-factorization and in the Color Glass Condensate formalism in the low density regime. We show that the two formalisms are equivalent for this specific observable. Finally, we study the phenomenology of $f_{2}$ mesons by comparing theoretical predictions of different parameterizations of the unintegrate…
We investigate the exclusive production of the pseudoscalar mesons pi0, eta, eta', K+ and of the vector mesons omega, phi in a microscopic gluon-exchange or instanton model. We describe the baryons as covariant quark - scalar diquark systems with harmonic confinement, thus taking into account center-of-mass corrections and Lorentz contraction in different frames. The excitation of intermediate baryon resonances is accounted by colorless 2-gluon (soft Pomeron) exchange. We find that our model accounts for the systematics of the high precision data on exclusive meson production from various mode…
The production of the $ρ^o$- meson in the inclusive proton-proton scattering $p_A+p_B\to ρ^o+X$ is studied using extension of parton model according to generalized vector meson dominance model (GVMD) in region of small $Q^2=m_{ρ^o}^2$ and $ρ^o$-meson transverse momentum $\le 1-2GeV/c$. The realistic description of the experimental cross sections of $p_A+p_B\to ρ^o+X$ for $4.9\le \sqrt{s}\le 65 GeV$ is achieved using an isotropic distribution of the $ρ^o$-meson. The resulting density matrix allows one to select values of the quark masses, which lead to the isotropic distribution of the emitted …
We calculate distributions of different vector mesons in purely exclusive ($p p \to p p V$) and semi-exclusive ($p p \to p X V$) processes with electromagnetic dissociation of a proton. The cross section for the electromagnetic dissociation is expressed through electromagnetic structure functions of the proton. We include the transverse momentum distribution of initial photons in the associated flux. Contributions of the exclusive and semi-exclusive processes are compared for different vector mesons ($V = ϕ, J/ψ, Υ$). We discuss how the relative contribution of the semi-exclusive processes dep…
We have investigated the contribution of the Higher Twist (HT) Feynman diagrams to the large-$p_T$ inclusive $ρ_L$ meson production cross section in proton-proton and proton-antiproton collisions and we discuss the phenomenological consequences of possible HT contributions to cross sections. To extract HT subprocesses from Leading Twist (LT) background, we use various $ρ_L$ meson distribution amplitudes(DAs). In the numerical calculations, the dependencies of the HT contribution on the transverse momentum and the rapidity are discussed with special emphasis on DAs. Analysis of our results show…
Taking into account the exchange forces between protons of scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial vector type the cross sections of neutral and charged scalar mesons $a_0(980)$, $a_+(980)$, $f_0(980)$, $σ(600)$ production are calculated. The estimation for the facilities of moderately high energies such as PANDA and NICA are presented. Similar analysis is given for processes of charged and neutral Higgs boson production at high energy proton-proton colliders such as Tevatron, RHIC and LHC. The possible signal of neutral Higgs boson decay into two oppositely charged leptons of different kinds i…
We discuss and compare different approaches to include gluon transverse momenta for heavy quark-antiquark pair and meson production. The results are illustrated with the help of different unintegrated gluon distributions (UGDF) from the literature. We compare results obtained with on-shell and off-shell matrix elements and kinematics. The results are compared with recent experimental results of the CDF collaboration.
The charge asymmetry induced by interference of amplitudes with $σ$ and $ρ$ mesons decaying to $π^+π^-$ pair created in the fragmentation region of proton, suggest to be a test of degeneration hypothesis of $ρ$ and $σ$ mesons. Some numerical estimations are given.
Rapidity distributions of vector mesons are computed in dipole model proton-lead ultraperipheral collisions(UPCs) at the CERN Larger Hadron Collider(LHC). The dipole model framework is implemented in the calculations of cross sections in the photon-hadron interaction. The bCGC model and Boosted Gaussian wave functions are employed in the scattering amplitude. We obtain predictions of rapidity distributions of $J/ψ$ meson proton-lead ultraperipheral collisions. The predictions give a good descriptions to the experimental data of ALICE. The rapidity distributions of $ϕ$, $ω$ and $ψ(2s)$ mesons i…
We consider a measurement of exclusive production of scalar $χ_{c}(0^{++})$ meson in the proton-proton collisions at LHC and RHIC and in the proton-antiproton collisions at the Tevatron via $χ_{c0} \to π^{+}π^{-}$ decay. The corresponding amplitude for exclusive double-diffractive $χ_{c0}$ meson production was obtained within the $k_{t}$-factorization approach including virtualities of active gluons and the corresponding cross section is calculated with unintegrated gluon distribution functions (UGDFs) known from the literature. The four-body $p p \to p p π^+ π^-$ reaction constitutes an irred…
An extension of the QED 'return to resonance' mechanism to light meson emission ($π$, $ρ$) in (anti)proton collisions with a hadronic target (nucleon or nucleus) is proposed. The cross section and the multiplicity distributions are calculated. The collinear emission (along the beam direction) of a charged meson may be used to produce high energy (anti)neutron beams. Possible applications at existing and planned facilities are considered.
Antiproton--proton annihilation into light neutral mesons in the few GeV energy domain is investigated in view of a global description of the existing data and predictions for future experiments at PANDA, FAIR. An effective meson model earlier developed, with mesonic and baryonic degrees of freedom in $s$, $t$, and $u$ channels, is applied here to $π^0π^0$ production. Form factors with logarithmic $s$ and $t(u)$ dependencies are applied. A fair agreement with the existing angular distributions is obtained. Applying SU(3) symmetry, it is straightforward to recover the angular distributions for …
We review some selected results of the tensor-pomeron and vector-odderon model of soft high-energy proton-proton scattering and central exclusive production of meson and baryon pairs in proton-proton collisions. We discuss the theoretical aspects of this approach and consider the phenomenological implications in a variety of processes at high energies, comparing to existing experimental data. We consider the diffractive dipion and dikaon production including the continuum and the dominant scalar and tensor resonance contributions as well as the photoproduction processes. The theoretical result…
The spin alignment matrix element rho_{00} for the vector mesons K^{*0} and phi(1020) has been measured in RHIC at central rapidities. These measurements are consistent with the absence of polarization with respect to the reaction plane in mid-central Au + Au collisions whereas, when measured with respect to the production plane in the same reactions and in p + p collisions, a non-vanishing and p_perp-dependent rho_{00} is found. We show that this behavior can be understood in a simple model of vector meson production where the spin of their constituent quarks is oriented during hadronization …
We present an analysis of the proton mass radius by studying the $t$-dependence of the differential cross sections of the vector meson photoproductions near the thresholds. At low energy, the photoproduction of a quarkonium off the proton is connected to the scalar gravitational form factor of the proton, which is sensitive to the proton mass distribution from the QCD trace anomaly. Under an assumption of the scalar form factor of dipole form, the proton mass radius is extracted via the near-threshold photoproduction data of J/$ψ$, $ϕ$ and $ω$ vector mesons. The average value of the proton mas…
We study two-photon contribution to the elastic lepton-proton scattering, associated with sigma meson exchange, with special attention paid to the low-Q2 region. We show that the corresponding amplitude grows sharply but remains finite at Q2->0. The analytical formula for the amplitude at Q2=0 is obtained. We also estimate the shift of the muonic hydrogen energy levels, induced by sigma meson exchange. For the 2S level the shift is approximately 30 times smaller than needed to resolve the proton radius puzzle, but still exceeds the precision of the muonic hydrogen measurements.
The pentaquark component is included in the proton wave functions to study phi meson production proton-antiproton annihilation reactions. With all possible configurations of the uuds subsystem proposed for describing the strangeness spin and magnetic moment of the proton, we estimate the branching ratios of the annihilation reactions at rest proton-antiproton to phi + X (X=pi, eta, rho, omega) from atomic proton-antiproton S- and P-wave states by using effective quark line diagrams incorporating the 3P0 model. The best agreement of theoretical prediction with the experimental data is found whe…
We report a study of the central exclusive production of $π^{+} π^{-}$ and $K^{+}K^{-}$ pairs in high energy hadron-hadron collisions. The amplitude is calculated in the Regge approach including both pomeron and secondary reggeon exchanges and absorption effects due to proton-proton interaction and $ππ$ ($KK$) rescattering. We discuss a measurement of exclusive production of a scalar $χ_{c0}$ meson via $χ_{c0} \to π^{+} π^{-}$, $K^{+} K^{-}$ decay. We find that the relative contribution of resonance states and the $ππ$ ($KK$) continuum strongly depend on the cut on pion (kaon) transverse momen…
Lepton mass effects play a decisive role in description of elastic lepton-proton scattering when the beam's energy is comparable to the mass of the lepton. The future MUSE experiment, which is devised to solve the "Proton Radius Puzzle", is going to cover the corresponding kinematic region for a scattering of muons by a proton target. We anticipate that helicity-flip meson exchanges will make a difference in comparison of elastic electron-proton versus muon-proton scattering in MUSE. In this article, we estimate the $σ$ meson exchange contribution in the $t$-channel. This contribution, mediate…
We discuss inclusive production of pairs of $J/ψ$ quarkonia. Both leading-order single parton (box) contribution and double-parton contributions are included. In addition we discuss a contribution of higher-order two-gluon exchange and a feed down from double $χ_c$ production. The second two contributions are important for large rapidity distance between the two $J/ψ$ mesons and for relatively large cut-offs on quarkonia transverse momenta. A relation to current experiments is discussed.
We present a study of the exclusive production of meson pairs in the four-body $pp \to pp π^{+} π^{-}$, $pp K^{+}K^{-}$ reactions at high energies which constitute an irreducible background to resonance states (e.g. $ϕ$, $f_{2}(1270)$, $f_{0}(1500)$, $f_{2}'(1525)$, $χ_{c0}$). We consider central diffractive contribution mediated by Pomeron and Reggeon exchanges and new diffractive mechanism of emission of pions/kaons from the proton lines. We include absorption effects due to proton-proton interaction and pion/kaon rescattering. Predictions for the total cross section and differential distrib…
The cross sections for the production of $B_s$ and $B_s^*$ mesons through the fragmentation process in $\bar{p}p$ collisions were calculated. The input parameters were determined from the measured $B_s$ and $B_s^*$ production rates in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. The transverse momentum distributions $dσ/dp_{T}$ are given for $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV, the Fermilab Tevatron energy.
We extract the S-matrix element for dipole-proton scattering using the data on diffractive electroproduction of vector mesons at HERA. By considering the full t dependence of this process we are able to reliably unfold the profile of the S-matrix for impact parameter values b>0.3 fm. We show that the results depend only weakly on the choice of the form for the vector meson wave function. We relate this result to the discussion about possible saturation effects at HERA.
We discuss the central exclusive production of $f_{1}$ mesons in proton-proton collisions. The diffractive pomeron-pomeron fusion process within the tensor-pomeron approach is considered. Two ways to construct the pomeron-pomeron-$f_{1}$ coupling are discussed. The theoretical calculation of coupling constants is a challenging problem of nonperturbative QCD. We adjust the parameters of the model to the WA102 experimental data. The total cross section and differential distributions are presented. Predictions for LHC experiments are given. Detailed analysis of the distributions in $ϕ_{pp}$ the a…
Inclusive cross sections for $J/ψ$ production in proton-proton collisions were calculated in the $k_t$-factorization approach for the RHIC energy. Several mechanisms were considered, including direct color-singlet mechanism, radiative decays of $χ_c$ mesons, decays of $ψ'$, open-charm associated production of $J/ψ$ as well as weak decays of B mesons. Different unintegrated gluon distributions from the literature were used. We find that radiative $χ_c$ decays and direct color-singlet contributions constitute the dominant mechanism of $J/ψ$ production. These process cannot be consistently treate…
The gluon content of the proton is embodied by the unintegrated gluon distribution (UGD), which has universal validity. In literature many models of UGD have been proposed so far. The polarized $ρ$-meson leptoproduction at HERA offers a nowadays unexplored testfield to discriminate among existing models of UGD, via the comparison with theoretical predictions formulated in the $κ$-factorization approach.
Reactions induced by high energy antiprotons on proton on nuclei are accompanied with large probability by the emission of a few mesons. Interesting phenomena can be observed and QCD tests can be performed, through the detection of one or more mesons. The collinear emission from high energy (anti)proton beams of a hard pion or vector meson, can be calculated similarly to the emission of a hard photon from an electron \cite{Kuraev:2013izz}. This is a well known process in QED, and it is called the "Quasi-Real Electron method", where the incident particle is an electron and a hard photon is emit…
We discuss gluon-gluon mechanisms for production of mesons with hidden strangeness, such as $η'$ and $ϕ$ meson, in proton-proton collisions at large energies. The $g^* g^* \to η'$ and $g^* g^* \to ϕg$ mechanisms are considered only and the corresponding cross sections are calculated in the $k_t$-factorization approach. The $F_{γ^* γ^* \to η'}$ and $F_{g^* g^* \to η'}$ form factors are calculated from quark-antiquark $η'$ light-cone wave function including quark/antiquark transverse momenta. The result for two-photon transition form factor demonstrates that higher twists may survive even to lar…
In the paper, we make a comprehensive study on the hadroproduction of the $B_c (B_c^*)$ meson via the gluon-gluon fusion mechanism at the RHIC and LHC colliders. Total and differential cross sections via the proton-nucleus ($p$-N) and nucleus-nucleus (N-N) collision modes have been discussed under various collision energies. To compare with those via the proton-proton collision mode at the LHC, we observe that sizable number of $B_c (B_c^*)$-meson events can also be produced via the $p$-N and N-N collision modes at the RHIC and LHC. If assuming the spin-triplet $B^*_c$ meson directly decays to…
We present a Monte Carlo generator for exclusive vector meson production in charged lepton-proton interactions, l+p --> l+p+V, based on a QCD leading logarithm model calculation according to which the cross section for this process is proportional to the square of the gluon momentum density in the proton. The generator can be used for both fixed target and collider kinematics. Each event is assigned a weight equal to its cross section, so that the independent variables can be generated according to convenient distributions, not necessarily identical to the physics ones.
The recently developed $B$-Mesogenesis scenario predicts decays of $B$ mesons into a baryon and hypothetical dark antibaryon $Ψ$. We suggest a method to calculate the amplitude of the simplest exclusive decay mode $B^+\to p Ψ$. Considering two models of $B$-Mesogenesis, we obtain the $B\to p$ hadronic matrix elements by applying QCD light-cone sum rules with the proton light-cone distribution amplitudes. We estimate the $B^+\to p Ψ$ decay width as a function of the mass and effective coupling of the dark antibaryon.
Through a determination of the $S$-matrix element for the scattering of a localized colour dipole on a proton, we show that saturation effects can already be sizable at HERA. The saturation scale is found to be around 1-1.5 $GeV^2$ for the highest available energies and for central collisions, and is a decreasing function of the impact parameter.
The Lund string fragmentation model is applied in a non-perturbative calculation of the invariant production cross section of pions from proton-proton collisions in the soft pT region. Invariant production cross sections of pions and kaons from proton-proton collisions in the hard pT region are calculated from the Feynman-Field perturbative QCD parton model. Parameterizations of these production invariant cross sections are described.
