The potential of a Super Flavor Factory (SFF) for searches of New Physics is reviewed. While very high luminosity B physics is assumed to be at the core of the program, its scope for extensive charm and tau studies are also emphasized. The possibility to run at the Upsilon(5S) is also very briefly discussed; in principle, this could provide very clean measurements of B_s decays. The strength and reach of a SFF is most notably due to the possibility of examining an impressive array of very clean observables. The angles and the sides of the unitarity triangle can be determined with unprecedented accuracy. These serve as a reference for New Physics (NP) sensitive decays such as B^+ ->tau^+ nu and penguin dominated hadronic decay modes, providing tests of generic NP scenarios with an accuracy of a few percent. Besides, very precise studies of direct and time dependent CP asymmetries in radiative B decays and forward-backward asymmetry studies in B-> X_s l^+ l^- and numerous null tests using B, charm and tau decays are also likely to provide powerful insights into NP. The dramatic increase in luminosity at a SFF will also open up entirely new avenues for probing NP observables, e.g. by allowing sensitive studies using theoretically clean processes such as B -> X_s nu nubar. The SFF is envisioned to be a crucial tool for essential studies of flavor in the LHC era, and will extend the reach of the LHC in many important ways.
We discuss potential to measure squark flavor mixings based on future data at super B factory and LHC. In particular we focus on the imaginary part of the mixings by investigating the CP violating observables. As a result, we find they are determined with the uncertainty about 10 % at best.
We explore the possibilities for measuring the quark content of the proton and neutron using neutrino beams produced at a muon storage ring. Because of the nature of the beams, small nuclear targets such as hydrogen and deuterium can be considered, as well as polarized targets. The statistics expected from these targets are calculated using nominal muon storage ring intensities, and the resulting statistical errors on the numerous structure functions available are given, for both polarized and unpolarized targets. It is shown that with a relatively small target, the structure functions F_2, xF…
The impact of heavy mediators on neutrino oscillations is typically described by non-standard four-fermion interactions (NSIs) or non-unitarity (NU). We focus on leptonic dimension-six effective operators which do not produce charged lepton flavor violation. These operators lead to particular correlations among neutrino production, propagation, and detection non-standard effects. We point out that these NSIs and NU phenomenologically lead, in fact, to very similar effects for a neutrino factory, for completely different fundamental reasons. We discuss how the parameters and probabilities are r…
The accurate prediction of the neutrino beam produced in muon decays and the absence of opposite helicity contamination for a particular neutrino flavor make a future neutrino factory the ideal place to look for the lepton flavor violating (LFV) decays of the kind $μ^+\ra e^+\nuebar\numu$ and lepton number violating (LNV) processes like $μ^-\ra e^-\nue\numu$. Excellent sensitivities can be achieved using a detector capable of muon and/or electron identification with charge discrimination. This would allow to set experimental limits that improve current ones by more than two orders of magnitude…
We discuss how to extract non-Standard Model effects from B-factory phenomenology. We then analyze the prospects for uncovering evidence for Effective Supersymmetry, a class of supersymmetric models which naturally suppress flavor changing neutral currents and electric dipole moments without squark universality or small CP violating phases, in experiments at BaBar, BELLE, HERA-B, CDF/D0 and LHC-B.
We investigate the possibility of searching the lepton-flavor-violating (LFV) $τ\rightarrow μγ$ rare decay at the Super Charm-Tau Factory (CTF). By comparing the kinematic distributions of the LFV signal and the standard model (SM) background, we develop an optimized event selection criteria which can significantly reduce the background events. It is concluded that new $2 σ$ upper limit of about $1.9 \times 10^{-9}$ on $Br(τ\rightarrow μγ)$ can be obtained at the CTF, which is beyond the capability of Super-B factory in searching $τ$ lepton rare decay. Within the framework of the scalar leptoq…
Predictions of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) parameters are investigated in detail in recent predictive models which are based on low-energy non-abelian discrete family symmetries. Some of the models can already be excluded at the present precision of the determination of the CKM parameters, while some of them seem to survive. We find that to make the uncertainties in the predictions comparable with the assumed uncertainties of $\sim 1^{\circ}$ and $\sim 2^{\circ}$ in $ϕ_2$ and $ϕ_3$, respectively, at about 50 inverse atto barn achieved at a feature B factory, it is necessary to reduce t…
Charged lepton flavor violation has long been recognized as unambiguous signature of New Physics. Here we describe the physics capabilities and discovery potential of New Physics models with charged lepton flavor violation in the tau sector as its experimental signature. Current experimental status from the B-Factory experiments BaBar, Belle and Belle II, and future prospects at Super Tau Charm Factory, LHC, EIC and FCC-ee experiments to discover New Physics via charged lepton flavor violation in the tau sector are discussed in detail. Submitted to the Proceedings of the US Community Study on …
The sixth SuperB Workshop was convened in response to questions posed by the INFN Review Committee, evaluating the SuperB project at the request of INFN. The working groups addressed the capability of a high-luminosity flavor factory that can gather a data sample of 50 to 75 /ab in five years to elucidate New Physics phenomena unearthed at the LHC. This report summarizes the results of the Workshop.
The recent measurements on $R_K$ and $R_π$ imply that there exists a possible violation of the leptonic flavor universality which is one of the cornerstones of the standard model. It is suggested that a mixing between sterile and active neutrinos might induce such a violation. In this work we consider the scenarios with one or two sterile neutrinos to explicitly realize the data while the constraints from the available experiments have been taken into account. Moreover, as indicated in literature, the deviation of the real PMNS matrix from the symmetric patterns may be due to a $μ-τ$ asymmetry…
A proposal on determination of the effective electro-weak mixing angle ${\rm sin^2θ_{eff}^f\;(f=c,b)}$ at a super Z-factory (an $e^+e^-$ collider designed with the possible highest luminosity and running around the center mass energy $\sqrt s=m_Z$) is proposed. It is to determine how the effective mixing angles depend on the flavors, especially the flavors $c$, $b$ (with the determined effective ones, the electro-weak mixing angles ${\rm sin^2θ_W^f\;(f=c,b)}$ of Standard Model can be derived out precisely). The key point of the proposal is that at such a super Z-factory, via measuring the forw…
We review $CP$-violating observables in flavor tagged and untagged $D^0 \rightarrow K^{-}π^{+}$ decays and evaluate the $CP$ asymmetry difference between the two decays. We note that this commonly neglected difference is not zero in principle and can be significant in future $B$ factory experiments. We also construct an expression to extract the strong phase difference between $\bar{D}^0 \rightarrow K^-π^+$ and $D^0 \rightarrow K^-π^+$ decays, independently of existing experimental methods.
It is shown in the three flavor framework that neutrino factories enable us to measure some of the oscillation parameters, such as the sign of $Δm_{32}^2$, $θ_{13}$, $δ$. Some efforts are made to determine the parameters (the muon energy and the neutrino path length) of a neutrino factory to optimize the signals.
In contrast with $B^0-\bar B^0$, $B_s-\bar B_s$ mixing where the standard model (SM) contributions overwhelm that of new physics beyond standard model (BSM), a measured relatively large $D^0-\bar D^0$ mixing where the SM contribution is negligible, definitely implies the existence of new physics BSM. It is natural to consider that the rare decays of D meson might be more sensitive to new physics, and the rare decay $D^0\to μ^+μ^-$ could be an ideal area to search for new physics because it is a flavor changing process. In this work we look for a trace of new physics BSM in the leptonic decays …
An extension of the New Standard Model, by introducing a mixing of the low mass ``active'' neutrinos with heavy ones, or by any model with lepton flavor violation, is considered. This leads to non-orthogonal neutrino production and detection states and to modifications of neutrino oscillations in both, vacuum and matter. The possibility of the discovery of such effects in current and future neutrino oscillation experiments is discussed. First order approximation formulas for the flavor transition probabilities in constant density matter, for all experimentally available channels, are given. Nu…
We review the way intense neutrino beams at the front-end of a muon storage ring can be used to probe the structure of hadrons. Specifically, we discuss how the polarized and unpolarized flavor structure of the nucleon can be disentangled in inclusive deep-inelastic scattering, and how less inclusive measurements can shed light on various aspects of hadron structure such as fragmentation functions or generalized parton distributions.
New physics not far above the TeV scale should leave a pattern of virtual effects in observables at lower energies. What do these effects tell us about the flavor structure of a UV theory? Within the framework of Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), we resolve the flavor structure of the Wilson coefficients in a combined analysis of top-quark and $B$-physics observables. Our fit to LHC and $b$-factory measurements shows that combining top and bottom observables is crucial to pin down possible sources of flavor symmetry breaking from UV physics. Our analysis includes the full analytic…
It is interesting to study the characteristics of the whole family of $B_c$ which contains two different heavy flavors. LHC and the proposed $Z^0$ factory provide an opportunity because a large database on the $B_c$ family will be achieved. $B_c$ and its excited states can be identified via their decay modes. As suggested by experimentalists, $B_c^*(ns)\to B_c+γ$ is not easy to be clearly measured, instead, the trajectories of $π^+$ and $π^-$ occurring in the decay of $B_c(ns)\to B_c(ms)+π^+π^-$ ($n>m$) can be unambiguously identified, thus the measurement seems easier and more reliable, there…
We summarize the physics case of a high-luminosity e+e- flavour factory collecting an integrated luminosity of 50-75 ab^(-1). Many New Physics sensitive measurements involving B and D mesons and tau leptons, unique to a Super Flavour Factory, can be performed with excellent sensitivity to new particles with masses up to ~100 (or even ~1000 TeV). Flavour- and CP-violating couplings of new particles that may be discovered at the LHC can be measured in most scenarios, even in unfavourable cases assuming minimal flavour violation. Together with the LHC, a Super Flavour Factory, following either th…
Two recent experimental developments, when combined, may have far reaching implications. $S_{ϕK_S} < 0$, if confirmed, would imply large $s$-$b$ mixing, a new CP phase, and right-handed dynamics. Large $Δm_{B_s}$ would be likely, making the $B_s$ program at hadron machines difficult. Reconstruction of $B$ vertex from $K_S$ at B factories, as shown by BaBar's first measurement of $S_{K_Sπ^0}$, makes $S_{K_Sπ^0γ}$ in $\bar B\to \bar K^{*0}γ$ accessible. This would be a boon for B factory upgrades. Supersymmetric Abelian flavor symmetry, independently motivated, can realize all of this with a lig…
I review the sensitivities achieved by and projected for fixed-target charm experiments in CP violation, flavor-changing neutral-current and lepton-number-violating decays, and mixing, and I describe the Charm2000 experiment intended to run at Fermilab in the Year ~2000. If approved, Charm2000 will in many of these areas exceed the sensitivities projected for a Tau/Charm Factory, but the Tau/Charm Factory retains certain qualitative advantages.
Tests of discrete symmetry violation have played an important role in understand the structure of weak interactions in the Standard Model of particle physics. Historically these measurements have been extensively performed at experiments with large samples of K and B mesons. A high luminosity tau-charm facility presents physicists with the opportunity to comprehensively explore discrete symmetry violation and test the Standard Model using tau leptons, charm mesons and charmed baryons. This paper discusses several possible measurements for a future tau-charm factory.
This report presents the results of studies that investigate the physics reach at a Super B factory, an asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider with a design luminosity of 5 x 10^35 cm^-2s^-1, which is around 40 times as large as the peak luminosity achieved by the KEKB collider. The studies focus on flavor physics and CP violation measurements that could be carried out in the LHC era. The physics motivation, key observables, measurement methods and expected precisions are presented. The sensitivity studies are a part of the activities associated with the preparation of a Letter of Intent for SuperK…
Now the bounds on the lepton-flavor violating (LFV) decay modes of tau lepton are being improved by the Belle experiment in the KEK B factory. In this paper the LFV decay of tau lepton is discussed in the supersymmetric seesaw model, using the current neutrino oscillation data.
After the major success of B-factories to establish the CKM mechanism and its proven potential to search for new physics, the Belle II experiment will continue exploring the physics at the flavor frontier over the next years. Belle II will collect 50 times more data than its predecessor, Belle, and allow for various precision measurements and searches of rare decays and particles. This paper introduces the B-factory concept and the flavor frontier approach to search for new physics. It then describes the SuperKEKB accelerator and the Belle II detector, as well as some of the physics that will …
In light of the results from the B factories, which clearly show that the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mechanism is the dominant source of the observed CP violation in K and B physics, only small deviations due to sources of CP violation beyond the Standard Model are likely. Therefore, in the quest for New Physics, null tests of the Standard Model become increasingly important. Motivated by these considerations, we describe a number of approximate null tests of the Standard Model. These tests provide several theoretically clean approaches to searching for new physics in the B system. We find that…
We calculate the next-to-leading order (NLO) radiative correction to the color-octet $h_c$ inclusive production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at Super $B$ factory, within the nonrelativistic QCD factorization framework. The analytic expression for the NLO short-distance coefficient (SDC) accompanying the color-octet production operator $\mathcal{O}_8^{h_c}(^1S_0)$ is obtained after summing both virtual and real corrections. The size of NLO correction for the color-octet production channel is found to be positive and substantial. The NLO prediction to the $h_c$ energy spectrum is plagued with unphys…
We study charged lepton flavor violation associated with a light leptophilic axion-like particle (ALP), $X$, at the $B$-factory experiment Belle II. We focus on production of the ALP in the tau decays $τ\to X l$ with $l=e,μ$, followed by its decay via $X\to l^- l^+$. The ALP can be either promptly decaying or long-lived. We perform Monte-Carlo simulations, recasting a prompt search at Belle for lepton-flavor-violating $τ$ decays, and propose a displaced-vertex (DV) search. For both types of searches, we derive the Belle~II sensitivity reaches in both the product of branching fractions and the …
A two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) is one of the minimal extensions of the Standard Model (SM), and it is well-known that the general setup predicts the flavor-violating phenomena, mediated by neutral Higgs interactions. Recently the CMS collaboration has reported an excess of the lepton-flavor-violating Higgs decay in $h \rightarrow μτ$ channel with a significance of 2.5 $ σ$. We investigate the CMS excess in a general 2HDM with tree-level Flavor Changing Neutral Currents (FCNCs), and discuss its impact on the other physical observations. Especially, we see that the FCNCs relevant to the excess…
I share some personal reflections about the physics potential and the physics case that can be made for an e^+ e^- high-luminosity B-meson factory, as presented in my summary talk at the recent "Super B-Factory Workshop" jointly organized by the BaBar and Belle Collaborations (Honolulu, Hawaii, January 2004). These brief remarks will appear as part of a forthcoming, comprehensive report on the physics potential of such a ``10^{36} machine''.
We discuss the capabilities of a future neutrino factory based on intense neutrino beams from a muon storage ring to explore the non-standard neutrino matter interactions, which are assumed to be sub-leading effects in the standard mass induced neutrino oscillations. The conjunction of these two mechanisms will magnify fake CP violating effect in the presence of matter which is not coming from the CP phase in the neutrino mixing matrix. We show that such fake CP violation can be observed in neutrino factory experiments by measuring the difference between the neutrino and anti-neutrino probabil…
I review the latest results on exotic, lepton flavor violating (LFV) and lepton number violating (LNV) decays of the B, D mesons and the tau leptons, obtained at the two B-factory experiments, Belle and BaBar. Where appropriate, results from other experiments are also described.
Several scenarios beyond the minimal extension of the Standard Model still allow light non-standard Higgs bosons evading LEP bounds. We examine the mixing between a light CP-odd Higgs boson and $η_b$ states and its implications on a slight (but observable) lepton universality breaking in Upsilon decays which could be measured at the percent level at a (Super) B factory.
A general prediction of the 5-d Randall-Sundrum (RS) hierarchy model is the emergence of spin-2 Kaluza Klein (KK) gravitons with weak scale masses and couplings. The lowest order effective theory of the RS model is given by 5-d Einstein gravity which uniquely fixes the self-interactions of gravitons. We demonstrate that large numbers of light KK resonances could be produced at a future lepton-collider-based ``Graviton Factory''. Measuring the self-interactions of these KK gravitons will probe the accuracy of the 5-d Einstein gravity picture and, in addition, yield indirect information on the a…
We summarize what has been learned about the neutrino mass spectrum and neutrino mixing, identify interesting open questions that can be answered by accelerator neutrino facilities of the future, and discuss the importance and physics of answering them.
The Proceedings of the 2003 SLAC Workshops on flavor physics with a high luminosity asymmetric e+e- collider. The sensitivity of flavor physics to physics beyond the Standard Model is addressed in detail, in the context of the improvement of experimental measurements and theoretical calculations.
A light non-standard Higgs boson decaying mainly into $τ^+τ^-$ has not been yet ruled out by LEP searches in several scenarios. We verify that, in the context of the Next-to-Minimal-Supersymmetric Standard Model, a low-mass CP-odd (mostly but not completely singlet-like) Higgs boson can couple strongly enough to down-type fermions to be detected in radiative $Υ$ decays into tauonic pairs at a high-luminosity B factory. Possible spectroscopic effects of a mixing with $η_b$ resonances are also analyzed
The conclusions of the Physics Working Group of the international scoping study of a future Neutrino Factory and super-beam facility (the ISS) are presented. The ISS was carried by the international community between NuFact05, (the 7th International Workshop on Neutrino Factories and Superbeams, Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati, Rome, June 21-26, 2005) and NuFact06 (Ivine, California, 24{30 August 2006). The physics case for an extensive experimental programme to understand the properties of the neutrino is presented and the role of high-precision measurements of neutrino oscillations within t…
In this paper, the lepton flavor violating $τ^- \to μ^-PP (PP=K^+K^-,K^0\bar{K}^0,π^+π^-,π^0π^0)$ decays are studied in the framework of the two Higgs doublet model(2HDM) III. We calculate these decays branching ratios and get the bounds of model parameter $|λ_{τμ}|$ from the experimental upper limits. Our results show that, the neutral Higgs bosons have tree-level contributions to these decays. Among these decays, the $τ^- \to μ^- K^+K^-$ decay is most sensitive to $|λ_{τμ}|$. In the existing parameters space, these decays could reach the measure capability of B factory. These processes can p…
Despite the great success of the $Υ(4S)$ $B$ factories at KEK and SLAC and the guaranteed addition of high sensitivity measurements on beauty decays to be performed at the Tevatron and LHC, a strong case can be made for an $e^+e^-$ Super-$B$ factory yielding data samples of order $10^{10}$ $B \bar B$ pairs as a necessity rather than luxury. It has to be justified through its ability to not only establish deviations from the Standard Model, but also diagnose and interpret those in terms of specific features of the New Dynamics. The role to be played by a Super-$B$ factory is thus analogous {\em…
Neutrino factories, neutrino beams produced in the decay of a muon or antimuon beam inside a storage ring, yield cleaner, richer, and more flexible neutrino beams relative to super-beams. We explore the physics case for this type of beam both for standard oscillation as well as new physics searches and present some machine options. We argue that there is a rich program beyond what the current neutrino program can cover and a string synergy with the muon collider program.
The discovery of $B_d - \bar B_d$ oscillations twenty years ago by the ARGUS collaboration marked a watershed event. It persuaded a significant part of the HEP community that the large time dependent \cp asymmetries predicted for some $B_d$ decays might be within the reach of specially designed experiments. This opened the successful era of the $B$ factories, which has a great future still ahead. After sketching the status of heavy flavour physics I describe why we need to continue a comprehensive heavy flavour program not only for its intrinsic reasons -- it is even mandated as an integral pa…
In order to fully address the oscillation processes at a neutrino factory, a detector should be capable of identifying and measuring all three charged lepton flavors produced in charged current interactions {\it and} of measuring their charges to discriminate the incoming neutrino helicity. This is an experimentally challenging task, given the required detector mass for long-baseline experiments. We address the benefit of a high-granularity, excellent-calorimetry non-magnetized target-detector, which provides a background-free identification of electron neutrino charged current and a kinematic…
We show that a very precise neutrino/anti-neutrino event separation is not mandatory to cover the physics program of a low energy neutrino factory and thus non-magnetized detectors like water Cerenkov or liquid Argon detectors can be used. We point out, that oscillation itself strongly enhances the signal to noise ratio of a wrong sign muon search, provided there is sufficiently accurate neutrino energy reconstruction. Further, we argue that apart from a magnetic field, other means to distinguish neutrino from anti-neutrino events (at least statistically) can be explored. Combined with the fac…
A method for measuring the average longitudinal polarization of the electron beam at an electron-positron collider operating near the $J/ψ$ resonance is proposed. The method utilizes the differential cross-section of $J/ψ\to [Λ\to pπ^-][\barΛ\to\bar{p}π^+]$ decay. It can be used to measure the average longitudinal polarization of electrons with the statistical precision better than $10^{-3}$ at a Super Charm-Tau factory operating at the luminosity of $10^{35}~\mathrm{cm}{}^{-2}\mathrm{s}{}^{-1}$. The method is discussed in the context of the weak mixing angle measurement in the same experiment…
In the colliders, the macroscopically large impact parameters give a substantial contribution to the standard cross section of the $e^+ e^- \to e^+ e^- γ$ process. These impact parameters may be much larger than the transverse sizes of the colliding bunches. It means that the standard cross section of this process has to be substantially modified. In the present paper such a beam-size effect is calculated for bremsstrahlung at Super$B$ factory developed in Italy. We find out that this effect reduces beam losses due to bremsstrahlung by about 40%.
We analyse the complementarity between Lepton Flavour Violation (LFV) and LHC experiments in probing the Supersymmetric (SUSY) Grand Unified Theories (GUT) when neutrinos got a mass via the see--saw mechanism. Our analysis is performed in an SO(10) framework, where at least one neutrino Yukawa coupling is necessarily as large as the top Yukawa coupling. Our study thoroughly takes into account the whole RG running, including the GUT and the right handed neutrino mass scales, as well as the running of the observable neutrino spectrum. We find that the upcoming (MEG, SuperKEKB) and future (PRISM/…
The importance of a Super-B Factory in the search for New Physics, in particular, due to CP-od phase(s) from physics beyond the Standard Model is surveyed. The first point to emphasize is that we know now how to directly measure all three angles of the unitarity triangle very cleanly, {\it i.e. without theoretical assumptions} with {\it irreducible theory error $ \lsim 1%$}; however this requires much more luminosity than is currently available at B-factories. Direct searches via penguin-dominated hadronic modes as well as radiative, pair-leptonic and semi-leptonic decays are also discussed. {…
We make an evaluation of the lepton flavor violating (LFV) decays $τ\to \ell (V^0, P^0)$, where $\ell=e$ or $μ$ and $V^0(P^0)$ is a neutral vector (pseudo-scalar) meson, in the context of unparticle physics. The constraints are investigated systematically on the related coupling parameters from all the available experimental data, and the parameter values are specified appropriately. The results show that whereas over the whole parameter space allowed by experiments all the $τ\to \ell P^0$ modes have a branching ratio too small to be measurable experimentally, in a large subspace as observed a…
Within the nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics framework, we make a comprehensive study on the exclusive production of excited charmonium and bottomonium in $e^+e^-\to γ^*/Z^0 \to|(Q\bar{Q})[n]\rangle +γ$ ($Q=c$ or $b$ quarks) at future $Z$ factory, where the $[n]$ represents the color-singlet $n^1S_0,~n^3S_1,~n^1P_0$ and $n^3P_J$ ($n=1,2,3,4; J=0,1,2$) Fock states. The "improved trace technology" is adopted to derive the analytic expressions at the amplitude level, which is useful for calculating the complicated $nP$-wave channels. Total cross sections, differential distributions, and unce…
Superbeams (SB) and Neutrino Factories (NF) are not alternative facilities for exploring neutrino oscillation physics, but successive steps. The correct strategy is to contemplate the combination of their expected physics results. We show its important potential on the disappearance of fake degenerate solutions in the simultaneous measurement of $θ_{13}$ and leptonic CP violation. Intrinsic, sign($Δm_{13}^2$) and $θ_{23}$ degeneracies are shown to be extensively eliminated when the results from one NF baseline and a SB facility are combined. A key point is the different average neutrino energy…
Supersymmetry without R-parity contains new tree-level contributions to B-decays. A brief summary is provided of the current experimental bounds on those tree-level contributions which are relevant to B physics. Signals to look for are outlined in the context of CP violation and rare decays. For the first time, the signature of general R-parity violating models is described. B-factory experiments will provide an opportunity to look for this signal.
In our previous work [2], it has been found that sizable charmonium events via the channel $e^+e^- \to γ^*/Z^0 \to H(|c\bar{c}\rangle) +γ$ can be produced at the suggested super $Z$ factory, where $H(|c\bar{c}\rangle)$ represents the dominant color-singlet $S$-wave and $P$-wave charmonium states $J/ψ$, $η_c$, $h_c$ and $χ_{cJ}$ ($J=0, 1, 2$), respectively. As an important step forward, in the present paper, we present a next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD analysis within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD. In different to the case of $B$ factory in which the single charmonium production is domin…
In order to study the interactions and structure of various types of matter one typically needs to carry out scattering experiments utilizing many different particles as projectiles. Whereas beams of $e^\pm$, $μ^\pm$, $π^\pm$, $K^\pm$, proton, antiproton, and of various heavy ions have been produced and have enabled many scientific breakthroughs, beams of antineutrons, hyperons ($Λ$, $Σ$ and $Ξ$) and their antiparticles are typically not easy to obtain. Here we point out and investigate a new high-quality source of these particles: a super $J/ψ$ factory with capability of accumulating trillion…
We present a detailed study of the exclusive radiative decays $Z\toη^{(\prime)}γ$ employing the QCD factorization approach. We derive a factorization formula for the decay amplitudes valid at leading power in an expansion in $(Λ_{QCD}/m_Z)^2$, which includes convolutions of calculable hard-scattering kernels with the leading-twist quark and gluon light-cone distribution amplitudes of the mesons. Large logarithms arising in the evolution from the high scale $m_Z$ down to hadronic scales are resummed using the renormalization group, carefully accounting for the effects of the heavy bottom and ch…
