It is shown that, in the context of split supersymmetry, a simple model with a single complex scalar field can produce chaotic inflation and generate the observed amount of baryon asymmetry via the Affleck-Dine mechanism. While the inflaton quantum fluctuations give rise to curvature perturbation, we show that quantum fluctuations of the phase of the scalar field can produce baryonic isocurvature perturbation. Combining with constraints from WMAP data, all parameters in the model can be determined to within a narrow range.
We study the Affleck-Dine mechanism with various types of the Kahler potential, and investigate whether or not the Affleck-Dine field could acquire a large VEV as an initial condition for successful baryogenesis. In addition to a negative Hubble-induced mass term, we find that large enough Hubble-induced A-terms could also develop the minimum at large amplitude of the field. Therefore, the Affleck-Dine mechanism works for broader classes of the theories.
Fragmentation of the Affleck-Dine condensate into Q-balls could fill the Universe with dark matter either in the form of stable baryonic balls, or LSP produced from the decay of unstable Q-balls. The dark matter and the ordinary matter in the Universe may share the same origin.
In D-term inflation models, Affleck-Dine baryogenesis produces isocurvature density fluctuations. These can be perturbations in the baryon number, or, in the case where the present neutralino density comes directly from B-ball decay, perturbations in the number of dark matter neutralinos. The latter case results in a large enhancement of the isocurvature perturbation. The requirement that the deviation of the adiabatic perturbations from scale invariance due to the Affleck-Dine field is not too large then imposes a lower bound on the magnitude of the isocurvature fluctuation of about $10^{-2}$…
We show that the $Ω_b - Ω_{DM}$ coincidence can naturally be explained in a framework where axino cold dark matter is predominantly produced in non-thermal processes involving decays of Q-balls formed in Affleck-Dinebaryogenesis. In this approach the similarity between $Ω_b$ and $Ω_{DM}$ is a direct consequence of the (sub-)GeV scale of the mass of the axino.
We consider the evolution of the Affleck-Dine scalar during D-term and F-term inflation and solve the combined slow-roll equations of motion. We show that for a typical case, where both the Affleck-Dine scalar and inflaton initially have large values, in D-term inflation the Affleck-Dine scalar is driven to a fixed value, with only a very slight dependence on the number of e-foldings. As a result, there is a definite prediction for the ratio of the baryonic isocurvature perturbation to the adiabatic perturbation. In minimal (d=4) Affleck-Dine baryogenesis the relative isocurvature contribution…
We propose a primeval baryon isocurvature model in the context of the Affleck-Dine (AD) baryogenesis mechanism. Quantum fluctuations of the AD field during inflation produce fluctuations in the baryon number. We obtain a model which gives both the appropriate baryon to entropy ratio of the order $10^{-11}$ and the gaussian baryon isocurvature perturbation of the order $10^{-3}$ at the break of the spectrum 1 Mpc with the steep spectrum $n=-1.5$ on large scales >1 Mpc.
We propose a novel scenario for Affleck-Dine baryogenesis in the braneworld, considering the hybrid potential for the Affleck-Dine field. Destabilization of the flat direction is not due to the Hubble parameter, but is induced by a trigger field. The moduli for the brane distance plays the role of the trigger field. Q-balls are unstable in models with large extra dimensions.
Affleck-Dine baryogenesis in models where the gravitino is both the lightest supersymmetric particle and the dark matter candidate is investigated. For a high enough reheating temperature to produce sufficient gravitinos by thermal processes, the observed baryon asymmetry can be explained by Affleck-Dine baryogenesis as well as thermal leptogenesis. On the other hand, if the reheating temperature is not high enough, most of the gravitinos must be produced by the decay of the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (NSP). Particularly, in the case where Q-balls cannot survive the evaporation, …
It is usually assumed that the order H^2 corrections to the SUSY-breaking mass squared terms in the early Universe must be negative in order to allow the Affleck-Dine mechanism to work. We reconsider this assumption in the context of D-term inflation models for the case where the mass squared term has a correction cH^2 with c>0. We show that, in general, the baryon asymmetry is likely to be too small if c > 9/16. However, for c as large as 0.5 the observed baryon asymmetry can be readily generated; in particular, for d=6 directions the observed asymmetry can be produced for a wide range of reh…
We propose a new scenario of Affleck-dine baryogenesis in the context of theories with large extra dimensions. In this paper we consider baryogenesis after thermal brane inflation and show how our mechanism works. We specifically consider models in which supersymmetry is broken at the distant brane.
We discuss the curvaton scenario with the Affleck-Dine baryogenesis. In this scenario, non-vanishing baryonic entropy fluctuation may be generated even without primordial fluctuation of the Affleck-Dine field. Too large entropy fluctuation is inconsistent with the observations and hence constraints on the curvaton scenario with the Affleck-Dine baryogenesis are obtained. We calculate the baryonic entropy fluctuation (as well as other cosmological density fluctuations) in this case and derive constraints. Implications to some of the models of the curvaton are also discussed.
It has been known that in anomaly-mediated SUSY breaking model Affleck-Dine baryogenesis does not work due to trapping of Affleck-Dine field into charge-breaking minima. We show that when finite-temperature effect is properly taken into account and if reheating temperature is relatively high, the problem of falling into charge breaking global minima can be avoided and hence Affleck-Dine baryogenesis works. Moreover, for the LH_u flat direction we obtain a constraint on the mass of neutrino.
In the version 1, we proposed a mechanism to create baryon asymmetry in a conformally sequestered supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking scenario through the Affleck-Dine (AD) mechanism. After the submission, however, we found a critical error in our discussion. This is a note on the article of version 1.
We reconsider the Affleck-Dine mechanism for baryogenesis and show that the baryonic isocurvature fluctuations are generated in many inflation models in supergravity. The inflationary scale and the reheating temperature must satisfy certain constraints to avoid too large baryonic isocurvature fluctuations.
Previously, we proposed a model of low energy Affleck-Dine leptogenesis in the context of thermal inflation. The lepton asymmetry is generated at the end of thermal inflation, which occurs at a relatively low energy scale with the Hubble parameter somewhere in the range $1 \keV \lesssim H \lesssim 1 \MeV$. Thus Hubble damping will be ineffective in bringing the Affleck-Dine field into the lepton conserving region near the origin, leaving the possibility that the lepton number could be washed out. Previously, we suggested that preheating could damp the amplitude of the Affleck-Dine field allowi…
We examine the conditions for a viable Affleck-Dine baryogenesis in supergravity (SUGRA) scenarios, finding surprisingly strong constraints on the type of SUGRA theory. These constraints are beautifully fulfilled by string-based SUGRA models provided that inflation is driven by a modulus (T) field.
We study the dynamics of the Affleck-Dine field after inflation in more detail. After inflation, the Affleck-Dine field inevitably oscillates around the potential minimum. This oscillation is hard to decay and can cause accidental suppression of the consequential baryon asymmetry. This suppression is most effective for the model with non-renormalizable superpotential $W_{AD}\sim Φ^4$ ($Φ$: Affleck-Dine field). It is found that the Affleck-Dine leptogenesis in high-scale inflation, which suffers from serious gravitino overproduction, becomes workable owing to this effect.
We consider the Affleck-Dine baryogenesis comprehensively in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. Considering the high temperature effects, we see that the Affleck-Dine field is naturally deformed into the form of the Q ball. In the natural scenario where the initial amplitude of the field and the A-terms are both determined by the nonrenormalizable superpotential, we obtain a narrow allowed region in the parameter space in order to explain the baryon number and the dark matter of the universe simultaneously. Therefore, the Affleck-Dine baryogen…
Affleck-Dine inflation is a recently proposed model in which a single complex scalar field, nonminimally coupled to gravity, drives inflation and simultaneously generates the baryon asymmetry of universe via Affleck-Dine mechanism. In this paper we investigate the supersymmetric implementation of Affleck-Dine inflation in the use of two chiral superfields with appropriate superpotential and Kähler potential. The scalar potential has a similar form to the potential of original Affleck-Dine inflation, and it gives successful inflation and baryogenesis. We also consider the isocurvature perturbat…
Thermal inflation can solve serious cosmological problems such as overproduction of gravitinos and moduli. However, it also dilutes the preexisting baryon asymmetry. We investigate a possibility that Affleck-Dine mechanism works after thermal inflation and generate the baryon number at an acceptable level using lattice calculation. We find that a proper amount of baryon number can be generated for appropriate model parameters.
The phenomenology of supersymmetric models of inflation, where the inflationary vacuum energy is dominated by D-terms of a U(1), is investigated. Particular attention is paid to the questions of how to arrange for sufficient e-folds of inflation to occur, what kind of thermal history is expected after the end of inflation, and how to implement successful baryogenesis. Such models are argued to require a more restrictive symmetry structure than previously thought. In particular, it is non-trivial that the decays of the fields driving D-inflation can reheat the universe in such a way as to avoid…
For Affleck-Dine baryogenesis to proceed, there must have been two types of phase transitions. One is the destabilized-stabilized phase transition of the flat direction, which is in general induced by the Hubble parameter. The other is the phase transition related to the A-term, which induces the misalignment of the relative phase of the flat direction. In the conventional Affleck-Dine baryogenesis they are supposed to start almost simultaneously. Of course these phase transitions can take place separately, but the latter must not be later than the former because the phase transition of the A-…
In this talk we considered the Affleck-Dine mechanism with various types of the Kahler potential, and investigate whether or not the Affleck-Dine field could acquire a large VEV as an initial condition for successful baryogenesis. In addition to a negative Hubble-induced mass term, we found examples that large enough Hubble-induced A-terms could also develop the minima at large amplitude of the field. It is concluded, therefore, that the Affleck-Dine mechanism works for broader classes of the theories. This talk is based on Ref.[1]. Here I extend the discussion from more generic standpoint, an…
To date, the properties of Q-balls arising from an Affleck-Dine condensate in gravity-mediated SUSY breaking have been obtained primarily through numerical simulations. In this work, we will derive the expected charge of the Q-balls formed in such a scenario through an analytical treatment. We will also examine the numerically observed difference between Q-ball formation in weakly charged condensates and formation in strongly charged condensates.
We investigate the backreaction of the Affleck-Dine leptogenesis to inflaton dynamics in the F-term hybrid and chaotic inflation models in supergravity. We determine the lightest neutrino mass in both models so that the predictions of spectral index, tensor-to-scalar ratio, and baryon abundance are consistent with observations.
The formation and late time decays of Q-balls are generic consequences of the Affleck-Dine (AD) baryogenesis. A substantial amount of the lightest supersymmetry (SUSY) particles (LSPs) are produced non-thermally as the decay products of these Q-balls. This requires a significantly large annihilation cross section of the LSP so as not to overclose the universe, which predicts a higgsino- or wino-like LSP instead of the standard bino LSP. We have reexamined the AD baryogenesis with special attention to the late-time decays of the Q-balls, and then specified the parameter regions where the LSPs p…
We propose a new scenario of Affleck-Dine baryogenesis where a flat direction in the MSSM generates B-L asymmetry just after the end of inflation. The resulting amount of baryon asymmetry is independent of low-energy supersymmetric models but is dependent on inflation models. We consider the hybrid and chaotic inflation models and find that reheating temperature is required to be higher than that in the conventional scenario of Affleck-Dine baryogenesis. In particular, non-thermal gravitino-overproduction problem is naturally avoided in the hybrid inflation model. Our results imply that Afflec…
Affleck-Dine baryogenesis is preconditioned on a certain structure of non-renormalizable operators in the Kahler potential. In this paper, we geometrically characterize the resulting constraint on the field space Kahler geometry and survey the Lagrangian for correlated predictions. The Affleck-Dine field backreacts on the inflaton, and by mapping the backreacted potential to an inflaton potential with a step, we find that current CMB data severely constrain some versions of the scenario.
Quantum fluctuations in the post inflationary Affleck-Dine baryogenesis model are studied. The squeezed states formalism is used to give evolution equations for the particle and anti-particle modes in the early universe. The role of expansion and parametric amplification of the quantum fluctuations on the baryon asymmetry produced is investigated.
In supergravity models (such as standard superstring constructions) that possess a Heisenberg symmetry, supersymmetry breaking by the inflationary vacuum energy does not lift flat directions at tree level. One-loop corrections give small squared masses that are negative (about -g^2 H^2/(4π)^2) for all flat directions that do not involve the stop. After inflation, these flat directions generate a large baryon asymmetry; typically $n_B/s \sim$ O(1). We consider mechanisms for suppressing this asymmetry to the observed level. These include dilution from inflaton or moduli decay, GUT nonflatness o…
We study Affleck-Dine leptogenesis via the L H_u flat direction in supersymmetric theories. We find that the baryon asymmetry is enhanced when the energy scale of the inflation is sufficiently low. Especially, we consider models of low scale inflation in which the Hubble parameter during inflation is comparable to (but slightly larger than) the gravitino mass m_{3/2} \sim 1 \TeV. The observed cosmological baryon asymmetry is obtained with the lightest neutrino mass m_{ν_1} \sim 10^{-4} eV, if the reheating process is suddenly terminated after inflation.
String theory generically predicts the coupling between the Affleck-Dine field and axion field through higher-dimensional operators. We thus explore the Affleck-Dine baryogenesis on an axion background. It turns out that the axion oscillation produces an enough amount of baryon asymmetry of the Universe just after the inflation, even without a soft supersymmetry-breaking $A$-term. This baryogenesis scenario is applicable to the string axion inflation.
In the MSSM, cosmological scalar field condensates formed along flat directions of the scalar potential (Affleck-Dine condensates) are typically unstable with respect to formation of Q-balls, a type of non-topological soliton. I discuss the creation and growth of the quantum seed fluctuations which catalyse the collapse of the condensate. In D-term inflation models, the fluctuations of squark fields in the flat directions also give rise to isocurvature density fluctuations stored in the Affleck-Dine condensate. After the condensate breaks up, these can be perturbations in the baryon number, or…
Affleck-Dine (AD) mechanism for leptogenesis involves the cosmological evolution of a complex scalar field (AD field) that carries non-zero lepton number. We show how explicit lepton number breaking terms, which involve the AD field needed to implement this scenario combined with fermionic WIMP dark matter, can generate neutrino mass at the one loop level, thus providing a unified framework for solving four major puzzles of the standard model i.e. inflation, baryogenesis, dark matter and neutrino mass. We discuss some phenomenological implications of this model.
We investigate the baryon asymmetry in the supersymmetry Dine-Fischler-Srednicki-Zhitnitsky axion model without R-parity. It turns out that the R-parity violating terms economically explain the atmospheric mass-squared difference of neutrinos and the appropriate amount of baryon asymmetry through the Affleck-Dine mechanism. In this model, the axion is a promising candidate for the dark matter and the axion isocurvature perturbation is suppressed due to the large field values of Peccei-Quinn fields. Remarkably, in some parameter regions explaining the baryon asymmetry and the axion dark matter …
We investigate the viability of Affleck-Dine baryogenesis in D=4, N=1 supergravity descending from string theory. The process relies on an initial condition where visible sector supersymmetric flat directions obtain tachyonic masses during inflation. We discuss this condition for a variety of cases where supersymmetry is broken during inflation by a geometric modulus or hidden sector scalar, and outline scenarios where the initial condition is satisfied.
We present numerical simulations of fragmentation of the Affleck-Dine condensate in two spatial dimensions. We argue analytically that the final state should consist of both Q-balls and anti-Q-balls in a state of maximum entropy, with most of the balls small and relativistic. Such a behaviour is found in simulations on a 100x100 lattice with cosmologically realistic parameter values. During fragmentation process, we observe filament-like texture in the spatial distribution of charge. The total charge in Q-balls is found to be almost equal to the charge in anti-Q-balls and typically orders of m…
Modulated reheating scenario is one of the most attractive models that predict possible detections of not only the primordial non-Gaussianity but also the tensor fluctuation through future CMB observations such as the Planck satellite, the PolarBeaR and the LiteBIRD satellite experiments. We study the baryonic-isocurvature fluctuations in the Affleck-Dine baryogenesis with the modulated reheating scenario. We show that the Affleck-Dine baryogenesis can be consistent with the modulated reheating scenario with respect to the current observational constraint on the baryonic-isocurvature fluctuati…
A leptogenesis scenario in a supersymmetric standard model extended with introducing right-handed neutrinos is reconsidered. Lepton asymmetry is produced in the condensate of a right-handed sneutrino via the Affleck-Dine mechanism. The LH_u direction develops large value due to a negative effective mass induced by the right-handed sneutrino condensate through the Yukawa coupling of the right-handed neutrino, even if the minimum during the inflation is fixed at the origin. The lepton asymmetry is nonperturbatively transfered to the LH_u direction by this Yukawa coupling.
We claim that the Higgsino-like and wino-like neutralinos can be good dark matter candidates if they are produced by the late time decay of Q-ball, which is generally formed in Affleck-Dine baryogenesis. The late time decays of the Q-balls into these LSP's and subsequent pair annihilations of the LSP's naturally lead to the desired mass density of dark matter. Furthermore, these dark matter can be much more easily detected by the dark-matter search experiments than the standard bino-like dark matter.
We present the full nonlinear calculation of the formation of a Q-ball through the Affleck-Dine (AD) mechanism by numerical simulations. It is shown that large Q-balls are actually produced by the fragmentation of the condensate of a scalar field whose potential is very flat. We find that the typical size of a Q-ball is determined by the most developed mode of linearized fluctuations, and almost all the initial charges which the AD condensate carries are absorbed into the formed Q-balls, whose sizes and the charges depend only on the initial charge densities.
Working in $D=4, N=1$ supergravity, we utilize relations between holomorphic sectional and bisectional curvatures of Kahler manifolds to constrain Affleck-Dine baryogenesis. We show the following No-Go result: Affleck-Dine baryogenesis cannot be performed if the holomorphic sectional curvature at the origin is isotropic in tangent space; as a special case, this rules out spaces of constant holomorphic sectional curvature (defined in the above sense) and in particular maximally symmetric coset spaces. We also investigate scenarios where inflationary supersymmetry breaking is identified with the…
We examine the viability of the Affleck-Dine mechanism for baryogenesis under radiatively induced running of soft breaking $({\rm mass})^2$ of the flat directions stemming from non-zero energy density of the inflaton during inflation. A major difference from analogous phenomenological studies is that the horizon radius provides a natural infrared cut-off to the quantum corrections in this case. We identify different scenarios which may arise and point out that the $H_{u}L$ flat direction remains the most promising flat direction, since it is largely independent of uncertainties about high scal…
We present a viable string embedding of Affleck-Dine baryogenesis in type IIB sequestered models where the late-time decay of the lightest modulus reheats the universe to relatively low temperatures. We show that if inflation is driven by a blow-up Kaehler modulus, the Affleck-Dine field can become tachyonic during inflation if the Kaehler metric for matter fields has an appropriate inflaton-dependent contribution. We find that the Affleck-Dine mechanism can generate the observed baryon asymmetry for natural values of the underlying parameters which lead also to successful inflation and low-en…
Affleck-Dine leptogenesis after thermal inflation along the $LH_u$ direction requires $m_L^2+m_{H_u}^2 < 0$ up to the AD scale ($|L|\simeq |H_u|\sim 10^9$ GeV). We renormalised this condition from the AD scale to the soft supersymmetry breaking scale by solving the renormalisation group equations perturbatively in the Yukawa couplings to obtain a semi-analytic constraint on the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters. We also used a fully numerical method to renormalise the baryogenesis condition and constrained the Minimal Supersymmetric Cosmological Model using the resulting baryogenesis cond…
Baryogenesis in the models where the fundamental scale is as low as TeV in the context of large extra dimensions is a challenging problem. The requirement for the departure from thermal equilibrium necessarily ties any low scale baryogenesis with that of a successful inflationary model which automatically provides the out of equilibrium condition after the end of inflation. However, it is also noticeable that in these models the reheat temperature of the Universe is strongly constrained from the overproduction of Kaluza-Klein modes, which enforces a very low reheat temperature. In this paper w…
In this clarifying note we discuss the late decay of an Affleck-Dine condensate by providing a no-go theorem that attributes to conserved global charges which are identified by the net particle number in fields which are included in the flat direction(s). For a rotating condensate, this implies that: (1) the net baryon/lepton number density stored in the condensate is always conserved, and (2) the total particle number density in the condensate cannot decrease. This reiterates that, irrespective of possible non-perturbative particle production due to $D$-terms in a multiple flat direction case…
We consider the Affleck-Dine mechanism for leptogenesis in the minimal MSSM with Dirac or Pseudo-Dirac neutrinos. The rolling of scalars along D-flat directions generates a left-right asymmetry in the sneutrino sector, only the left part of which is transferred to a baryon asymmetry via sphaleron transitions. In the pure Dirac case the baryon asymmetry of the Universe is thus mirrored by an equal and opposite asymmetry in the leptons. The mechanism is also found to work when the neutrinos are pseudo-Dirac. No additional field needs to be added to the MSSM other than the right-handed neutrino.
We present a novel Affleck-Dine scenario for the generation of the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe based on the non-trivial interplay between quintessential inflationary models containing a kinetic dominated post-inflationary era and a non-minimally coupled $U(1)$ field with a weakly broken $B-L$ symmetry. The non-minimal coupling to gravity renders heavy the Affleck-Dine field during inflation and avoids the generation of isocurvature fluctuations. During the subsequent kinetic era the Ricci scalar changes sign and the effective mass term of the Affleck-Dine field becomes tachyonic.…
We argue that an extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model that gives rise to viable thermal inflation, and so does not suffer from a Polonyi/moduli problem, should contain right-handed neutrinos which acquire their masses due to the vacuum expectation value of the flaton that drives thermal inflation. This strongly disfavours SO(10) Grand Unified Theories. The $μ$-term of the MSSM should also arise due to the vev of the flaton. With the extra assumption that $ m_L^2 - m_{H_u}^2 < 0 $, but of course $ m_L^2 - m_{H_u}^2 + |μ|^2 > 0 $, we show that a complicated Affleck-Dine type of…
In the MSSM, cosmological scalar field condensates formed along flat directions of the scalar potential (Affleck-Dine condensates) are typically unstable with respect to formation of Q-balls, a type of non-topological soliton. We consider the dynamical evolution of the Affleck-Dine condensate in the MSSM. We discuss the creation and linear growth, in F- and D-term inflation models, of the quantum seed perturbations which in the non-linear regime catalyse the collapse of the condensate to non-topological soliton lumps. We study numerically the evolution of the collapsing condensate lumps and sh…
We present a unified model that solves four major problems of the standard model i.e. neutrino masses, origin of matter, strong CP problem and dark matter using the framework of Affleck-Dine (AD) mechanism. The AD-field is responsible for inflation, origin of matter and neutrino masses which arise at the one loop level. Neutrino masses are therefore intimately connected to the baryon to photon ratio of the universe. The dark matter in the model is the axion field used to solve the strong CP problem. The model has a near massless Majorana fermion which contributes to $ΔN_{\rm eff}\sim 0.1$ in t…
In this talk we discuss the origin and nature of the dark matter in the Affleck-Dine (AD) baryogenesis. The AD baryogenesis via most of the flat directions predict formations of large Q-balls, and a great number of the lightest supersymmetric particles (LSPs) are produced nonthermally via the late-time decays of these Q-balls. In order to avoid the overclosure of the universe by these nonthermally produced LSPs, an LSP with a large pair-annihilation cross section, like Higgsino- or Wino-like neutralino, is required, instead of the standard Bino-like neutralino. This reveals new cosmologically …
The Affleck-Dine leptogenesis scenario along the LHu flat direction is reconsidered. It is known that successful Affleck-Dine leptogenesis requires that the lightest neutrino mass is extremely small. This situation can be significantly relaxed if the neutrino mass in the early universe is different from the present one. We consider a supersymmetric Dine-Fischler-Srednicki-Zhitnitsky (DFSZ) type model, which provides a solution to the strong CP problem and generates a SUSY mu-term and right-handed neutrino masses. If the PQ scale during lepton number generation is much larger than the present v…
We reconsider fluctuations of Affleck-Dine (AD) field in a D-term inflation model. Contrary to the previous analysis, we find that the spectrum of the adiabatic fluctuations is almost scale invariant even if the AD field has a large initial value. Furthermore, we study the isocurvature fluctuations of the AD field and estimate the ratio of the isocurvature to adiabatic power spectrum. The dynamics of the inflaton and AD fields sets the upper bound for the value of the AD field, leading to a lower limit for isocurvature perturbation. It is shown that the recent Cosmic Microwave Background data …
Certain exact results in supersymmetric gauge theories are generated by non-perturbative effects different from instantons. In supersymmetric QCD with N colours and Nf fundamental flavours we examine the Affleck-Dine-Seiberg (ADS) superpotential using controlled semi-classical analysis. We show how for Nf < N-1 the ADS superpotential arises from monopole contributions to the path integral of the supersymmetric gauge theory compactified on R^3*S^1. These are the monopole effects leading to gaugino condensation and confinement of the low-energy SU(N-Nf) supersymmetric gauge theory.
We investigate the Affleck-Dine mechanism when multiple flat directions have large values simultaneously. We consider in detail the case when both $LH_u$ and $H_uH_d$ flat directions are operative with a non-renormalizable superpotential. In case Hubble induced A-terms are present for these two flat directions, their initial values are determined completely by the potential and there are no ambiguities how they are mixed. Moreover, CP is violated even when the Hubble parameter is large due to the Hubble induced A-term and cross coupling in F-term, so that the lepton asymmetry is generated just…
Constructing models of inflation and/or baryogenesis in the context of N=1 supergravity is known to be difficult as the finite energy density during inflation typically generates large (order the Hubble scale) mass terms. This is the well-known eta problem in inflation. The same effect gives masses along low energy flat directions of the scalar potential thus potentially preventing Affleck-Dine baryogenesis to occur. It has been shown that adding a chiral multiplet S coupled to the inflaton (with a shift symmetry) can serve to stabilize the inflationary potential and allows one to derive simpl…
