We have examined the momentum expansion of the disk level S-matrix element of two tachyons and two gauge fields to find, up to on-shell ambiguity, the couplings of these fields in the world volume theory of N coincident non-BPS D-branes to all order of $α'$. Using the proposal that the action of D-brane-anti-D-brane is given by the projection of the action of two non-BPS D-branes with $(-1)^{F_L}$, we find the corresponding couplings in the world volume theory of the brane-anti-brane system. Using these infinite tower of couplings, we then calculate the massless pole of the scattering amplitude of one RR field, two tachyons and one gauge field in the brane-anti-brane theory. We find that the massless pole of the field theory amplitude is exactly equal to the massless pole of the disk level S-matrix element of one RR, two tachyons and one gauge field to all order of $α'$.
We find the free energy of the string by applying the known Matsubara formalism. Then through the Casimir effect we offer a temperature correction to the tachyon mass of the string. We see that for the fermionic part the temperature correction is precisely the opposite of that of bosonic part, so the quantum ground state of the superstring would remain massless, as expected.
We continue with the analysis of finite temperature corrections to the Tachyon mass in intersecting branes which was initiated in arxiv:1403.0389. In this paper we extend the computation to the case of intersecting D3-branes by considering a setup of two intersecting branes in flat-space background. A holographic model dual to BCS superconductor consisting of intersecting D8-branes in D4-brane background was proposed in arxiv:1104.2843. The background considered here is a simplified configuration of this dual model. We compute the one-loop Tachyon amplitude in the Yang-Mills approximation and …
In this work, following recent studies which show that it is possible to localize gravity as well as scalar and gauge vector fields in a tachyonic de Sitter thick braneworld, we investigate the localization of fermion fields in this model. In order to achieve this aim we consider the Yukawa interaction term between the fermions and the tachyonic condensate scalar field MF(T)barPsiPsi in the action and analyze four different cases corresponding to distinct tachyonic functions F(T(w)). The only condition that this function must satisfy in order to yield 4D chiral fermions upon dimensional reduct…
We investigate three-form gauge theories with higher derivative interactions and their supersymmetric extensions in four space-time dimensions. For the bosonic three-form gauge theories, we show that derivatives on the field strength of the 3-form gauge field yield a tachyon as far as the Lagrangian contains a quadratic kinetic term, while such the term with opposite sign gives rise to a ghost. We confirm that there is neither a tachyon nor a ghost when all higher derivative terms are given by functions of the field strength. For this ghost/tachyon-free Lagrangian, we determine the boundary te…
Through the Casimir effect, we obtain a temperature correction to the ground state mass of the Bosonic string. Accordingly, we show that higher than the temperature $\approx 1/2π$, the Tachyon attain real mass, and also we find massive Graviton for nonzero temperatures. As another consequence, we demonstrate that for temperatures higher than the Hagedorn temperature, the string would find again a Tachyonic state.
A holographic description of BCS superconductivity is given in arxiv:1104.2843. This model was constructed by insertion of a pair of D8-branes on a D4-background. The spectrum of intersecting D8-branes has tachyonic modes indicating an instability which is identified with the BCS instability in superconductors. Our aim is to study the stability of the intersecting branes under finite temperature effects. Many of the technical aspects of this problem are captured by a simpler problem of two intersecting D1-branes on flat background. In the simplified set-up we compute the one-loop finite temper…
We revisit the possibility of de Sitter vacua and slow-roll inflation in type II string theory at the level of the classical two-derivative supergravity approximation. Previous attempts at explicit constructions were plagued by ubiquitous tachyons with a large $η$ parameter whose origin has not been fully understood so far. In this paper, we determine and explain the tachyons in two setups that are known to admit unstable dS critical points: an SU(3) structure compactification of massive type IIA with O6-planes and an SU(2) structure compactification of type IIB with O5/O7-planes. We explicitl…
Intersecting D-brane models and their T-dual magnetic compactifications provide an attractive framework for particle physics, allowing for chiral fermions and supersymmetry breaking. Generically, magnetic compactifications have tachyons that are usually removed by Wilson lines. However, quantum corrections prevent local minima for Wilson lines. We therefore study tachyon condensation in the simplest case, the magnetic compactification of type I string theory on a torus to eight dimensions. We find that tachyon condensation restores supersymmetry, which is broken by the magnetic flux, and we co…
