We investigate a set of stochastic models of biodiversity, population genetics, language evolution and opinion dynamics on a network within a common framework. Each node has a state, 0 < x_i < 1, with interactions specified by strengths m_{ij}. For any set of m_{ij} we derive an approximate expression for the mean time to reach fixation or consensus (all x_i=0 or 1). Remarkably in a case relevant to language change this time is independent of the network structure.

Voter Model with Arbitrary Degree Dependence: Clout, Confidence and Irreversibility

In this paper, we consider the voter model with popularity bias. The influence of each node on its neighbors depends on its degree. We find the consensus probabilities and expected consensus times for each of the states. We also find the fixation probability, which is the probability that a single node whose state differs from every other node imposes its state on the entire system. Fast fixation without fast networks

We investigate the dynamics of a broad class of stochastic copying processes on a network that includes examples from population genetics (spatially-structured Wright-Fisher models), ecology (Hubbell-type models), linguistics (the utterance selection model) and opinion dynamics (the voter model) as special cases. We study the influence of complex graphs on the metastability and fixation properties of a set of evolutionary processes. Voter Models on Heterogeneous Networks

We study simple interacting particle systems on heterogeneous networks, including the voter model and the invasion process. These are both two-state models in which in an update event an individual changes state to agree with a neighbor. For the voter model, an individual "imports" its state from a randomly-chosen neighbor. Dynamical organization towards consensus in the Axelrod model on complex networks

We analyze the dynamics toward cultural consensus in the Axelrod model on scale-free networks. By looking at the microscopic dynamics of the model, we are able to show how culture traits spread across different cultural features. We compare the diffusion at the level of cultural features to the growth of cultural consensus at the global level, finding important differences between these two processes. Time scales and species coexistence in chaotic flows

Empirical observations in marine ecosystems have suggested a balance of biological and advection time scales as a possible explanation of species coexistence. To characterise this scenario, we measure the time to fixation in neutrally evolving populations in chaotic flows. In the consensus model with bounded confidence, studied by Deffuant et al. (2000), two randomly selected people who differ not too much in their opinion both shift their opinions towards each other.
