We discuss rare meson decays $K^ + \to π^ - \ell ^ + \ell '^ +$ and $D^ + \to K^ - \ell ^ + \ell '^ +$ ($\ell ,\ell ' = e,μ$) in a supersymmetric extension of the standard model with explicit breaking of R-parity by bilinear Yukawa couplings in the superpotential. Estimates of the branching ratios for these decays are given. We also compare our numerical results with analogous ones previously obtained for two other mechanisms of lepton number violation: exchange by massive Majorana neutrinos and trilinear R-parity violation.
Some aspects of bilinear R-Parity violation, the simplest extension of the MSSM which does not conserve R-Parity, are reviewed in comparison with the MSSM. We put special emphasis on the effect of quantum corrections.
The supersymmetric standard model of particle interactions is extended to include two Higgs triplet superfields at the TeV scale, carrying two units of lepton number. Realistic tree-level Majorana neutrino masses are obtained in the presence of soft, i.e. bilinear, R-parity nonconservation.
We reanalyze the contributions to neutrinoless double beta ($\znbb$) decay from supersymmetry with explicit breaking of R-parity. Although we keep both bilinear and trilinear terms, our emphasis is put on bilinear R-parity breaking terms, because these mimic more closely the models where the breaking of R-parity is spontaneous. Comparing the relevant Feynman diagrams we conclude that the usual mass mechanism of double beta decay is the dominant one. From the non-observation of $\znbb$ decay we set limits on the bilinear R-parity breaking parameters of typically a (few) 100 $keV$. Despite such …
We consider the charged scalar boson phenomenology in the bilinear R-parity breaking model which induces a mixing between staus and the charged Higgs boson. The charged Higgs boson mass can be lower than expected in the MSSM, even before including radiative corrections. The R-parity violating decay rates can be comparable or even bigger than the R-parity conserving ones. These features could have implications for charged supersymmetric scalar boson searches at future accelerators.
We consider neutrino masses generated at tree level and at one loop, through fermion--sfermion loop diagrams, in the MSSM with R-parity violation. Using the $(3\times 3)$ mass and mixing matrices for three generations of neutrinos and the present experimental results on neutrinos from laboratories and astrophysics simultaneously, we put bounds on both trilinear ($λ_{ijk}, λ'_{ijk}$) and bilinear ($μ_{e},μ_μ,μ_τ$) R-parity-violating couplings.
Neutrino masses and mixing are generated in a supersymmetric standard model when R-parity is violated in bilinear mass terms. The mixing matrix among the neutrinos takes a restrictive form if the lepton flavor universality holds in the R-parity violating soft masses. It turns out that only the small angle MSW solution to the solar neutrino problem is consistent with the result of the CHOOZ experiment and the atmospheric neutrino data.
We analyse an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model including the dominant trilinear and bilinear R-parity violating contributions. We take the trilinear terms from the superpotential and the bilinear terms from the superpotential as well as the scalar potential. We compute the neutrino masses induced by those couplings and determine the allowed ranges of the R-parity violating parameters that are consistent with the latest SNO results, atmospheric data and the Chooz constraint. We also estimate the effective mass for neutrinoless double beta decay in such scenarios.
Bilinear R-parity violation is a simple extension of the MSSM allowing for Majorana neutrino masses. One of the three neutrinos picks up mass by mixing with the neutralinos of the MSSM, while the other two neutrinos gain mass from 1-loop corrections. Once 1-loop corrections are carefully taken into account the model is able to explain solar and atmospheric neutrino data for specific though simple choices of the R-parity violating parameters.
We present analytic expressions corresponding to a set of one loop Feynman diagrams, built within R-parity violating (RpV) minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). Diagrams involve both bilinear and trilinear RpV couplings and represent Majorana neutrino masses and magnetic moments.
We examine some flavor changing processes such as rare leptonic decays of the long-lived neutral kaon, muon-electron conversion in nuclei and radiative muon decay which are induced by the combined effects of bilinear and trilinear R-parity violations. These processes are used to put strong constraints on certain products of the bilinear and trilinear couplings. We also discuss the constraints on R-parity violation from neutrino masses and compare them with the constraints from flavor changing decay processes. Large range of parameter space satisfying the constraints from neutrino masses can be…
We reexamine the idea that bilinear R-parity violating couplings can be responsible for leptogenesis. We prove that, to have lepton number violation before the electroweak phase transition, misalignment between the lepton-Higgsino and slepton-Higgs sectors must be involved. The processes that generate a lepton asymmetry are bino or wino decays into a lepton-Higgs and slepton-Higgsino final states. Since these decays occur mainly while the gauginos are still in thermal equilibrium, they quantitatively fail to produce the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe.
The minimum supersymmetric standard model with bilinear R-parity violation is studied systematically. Considering low-energy supersymmetry, we examine the structure of the bilinear R-parity violating model carefully. We analyze the mixing such as Higgs bosons with sleptons, neutralinos with neutrinos and charginos with charged leptons in the model. Possible and some important physics results such as the lightest Higgs may heavy than the weak Z-boson at tree level etc are obtained. The Feynman rules for the model are derived in $'$t Hooft- Feynman gauge, which is convenient if perturbative calc…
Neutrino masses and their mixing are studied in detail in the framework of a supersymmetric standard model with bilinear R-parity violation. In this scenario, the mixing matrix among the neutrinos is in a restrictive form. We find that only the small angle MSW solution is allowed for the solar neutrino problem when the results of the CHOOZ experiment are combined with the mass squared difference and mixing angle suggested by the atmospheric neutrino data. Collider signals of this scenario are also discussed.
We consider the impact of cosmological $B-L$ constraints on supersymmetric standard models with bilinear breaking of R-parity. In order to avoid erasing any primordial baryon or lepton asymmetry above the electroweak scale, $B-L$ violation for at least one generation should be sufficiently small. Working in the context of models with non--universal soft supersymmetry breaking masses, we show how the above cosmological constraint can be satisfied while simultaneously providing a neutrino mass matrix required by current data.
Neutrinoless double beta ($\znbb$) decay is considered within bilinear R-parity breaking supersymmetry, including the full one-loop corrections to the neutrino-neutralino mass matrix. Expected rates for $\znbb$ decay in this model are discussed in light of recent atmospheric and solar neutrino data. We conclude that (a) tree-level calculations for $\znbb$ decay within the bilinear model are not reliable in the range of parameters preferred by current solar and atmospheric neutrino problems. And (b) if the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems are to be solved within bilinear R-parity violati…
Supersymmetric models with bilinear R-parity violation (BRPV) can account for the observed neutrino masses and mixing parameters indicated by neutrino oscillation data. We consider minimal supergravity versions of BRPV where the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) is a neutralino. This is unstable, with a large enough decay length to be detected at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We analyse the LHC potential to determine the LSP properties, such as mass, lifetime and branching ratios, and discuss their relation to neutrino properties.
We discuss gauge and Yukawa unification in the context of a supersymmetric model with bilinear R-parity violation. We show that this model allows $b-τ$ Yukawa unification for any value of $\tanβ$ while satisfying perturbativity of the couplings. We also find the $t-b-τ$ Yukawa unification easier to achieve than in the MSSM, occurring in a wider high $\tanβ$ region. Finaly, we also discuss the compatibility between the predicted and the measured values for $α_s(M_Z)$
We discuss some phenomenological issues of the effective quark-lepton operators emerging from the bilinear lepton-Higgs couplings in the superpotential and in the soft supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking sector of the supersymmetric models without R-parity. The contribution of these operators to the neutrinoless double beta decay is derived. The corresponding nuclear matrix elements are calculated within the renormalized quasiparticle random phase approximation, which includes the Pauli effect of fermion pairs and does not collapse for the physical values of the nuclear force strength. On this basis…
Bilinear R-parity violation provides an attractive origin for neutrino masses and mixings. In such schemes the gravitino is a viable decaying dark matter particle whose R-parity violating decays lead to monochromatic photons with rates accessible to astrophysical observations. We determine the parameter region allowed by gamma-ray line searches, dark matter relic abundance and neutrino oscillation data, obtaining a limit on the gravitino mass $m_{\tilde G} \lsim$ 1-10 GeV corresponding to a relatively low reheat temperature $T_R \lsim$ few $\times 10^7-10^8$ GeV. Neutrino mass and mixing param…
We review some of the main features of Bilinear R-Parity Violation (BRpV), defined by a quadratic term in the superpotential which mixes lepton and Higgs superfields and is proportional to a mass parameter epsilon. We show how large values of epsilon can induce a small neutrino mass without fine-tunning. We mention the effect on the mass of the lightest Higgs boson. Finally we report on the effect of BRpV on gauge and Yukawa unification, showing that bottom-tau unification can be achieved at any value of tan(beta).
Neutrinoless double beta ($\znbb$) decay violates lepton number; its absence stringently constrains the parameters of theories beyond the standard model in which the neutrino has a Majorana mass. R-parity violating weak-scale supersymmetry is a prominent example of such models. Double beta decay in supersymmetry with explicit bilinear R-parity breaking is discussed and current limits on the $\znbb$ decay half life of $^{76}$Ge are used to extract upper bounds on the R-parity breaking parameters of the first generation. Moreover, it is shown that the effective Majorana neutrino mass, measured i…
Bilinear R-parity violation (BRPV) provides the simplest intrinsically supersymmetric neutrino mass generation scheme. While neutrino mixing parameters can be probed in high energy accelerators, they are unfortunately not predicted by the theory. Here we propose a model based on the discrete flavor symmetry $A_4$ with a single R-parity violating parameter, leading to (i) correct Cabbibo mixing given by the Gatto-Sartori-Tonin formula, and a successful unification-like b-tau mass relation, and (ii) a correlation between the lepton mixing angles $θ_{13}$ and $θ_{23}$ in agreement with recent neu…
We give an analytical calculation of solar neutrino masses and mixing at one-loop order within bilinear R-parity breaking supersymmetry, and compare our results to the exact numerical calculation. Our method is based on a systematic perturbative expansion of R-parity violating vertices to leading order. We find in general quite good agreement between approximate and full numerical calculation, but the approximate expressions are much simpler to implement. Our formalism works especially well for the case of the large mixing angle MSW solution (LMA-MSW), now strongly favoured by the recent KamLA…
We investigate how the bi-large mixing required by the recent neutrino data can be accommodated in the supersymmetric standard model allowing bilinear R-parity violation and non-universal soft terms. In this scheme, the tree-level contribution and the so-called Grossman-Haber one-loop diagrams are two major sources of the neutrino mass matrix. The relative size of these two contributions falls into the right range to generate the atmospheric and solar neutrino mass hierarchy. On the other hand, the bi-large mixing is typically obtained by a mild tuning of input parameters to arrange a partial …
In models with gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. If R-parity is violated the gravitino decays, but with a half-live far exceeding the age of the universe and thus is, in principle, a candidate for the dark matter. We consider the decays of the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle, assumed to be the neutralino. We show that in models where the breaking of R-parity is bilinear, the condition that R-parity violation explains correctly the measured neutrino masses fixes the branching ratio of the decay ${\tilde χ}^0_1 \to {\tilde G}γ$ …
In a supersymmetric model where R-Parity and lepton number are violated bilinearly in the superpotential, which can explain the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems, we study the unification of gauge and Yukawa couplings at the GUT scale. We show that bottom-tau Yukawa coupling unification can be achieved at any value of $\tanβ$, and that the strong coupling constant prediction from unification of gauge couplings is closer to the experimental value compared with the MSSM. We also study the predictions for $V_{cb}$ in a Yukawa texture ansätze.
We confront the R-parity violating MSSM model with the neutrino oscillation data. Investigating the 1-loop particle-sparticle diagrams with additional bilinear insertions on the external neutrino lines we construct the relevant contributions to the neutrino mass matrix. A comparison of the so-obtained matrices with the experimental ones assuming normal or inverted hierarchy and taking into account possible CP violating phases, allows to set constraints on the values of the bilinear coupling constants. A similar calculation is presented with the input from the Heidelberg-Moscow neutrinoless dou…
We discuss the phenomenology of the lightest neutralino in models where an effective bilinear term in the superpotential parametrizes the explicit breaking of R-parity. We consider supergravity scenarios where the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) is the lightest neutralino and which can be explored at LEP2. We present a detailed study of the LSP decay properties and general features of the corresponding signals expected at LEP2. We also contrast our model with gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking.
We study the collider phenomenology of bilinear R-parity violating supergravity, the simplest effective model for supersymmetric neutrino masses accounting for the current neutrino oscillation data. At the CERN Large Hadron Collider the center-of-mass energy will be high enough to probe directly these models through the search for the superpartners of the Standard Model (SM) particles. We analyze the impact of R-parity violation on the canonical supersymmetry searches - that is, we examine how the decay of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) via bilinear R-parity violating interactions …
Supersymmetric models with broken R-parity induced by lepton number violating terms provide a calculable framework for neutrino masses and mixings. Within models with bilinear R-parity breaking six new physical phases appear which are potential sources of novel CP-violating phenomena compared to the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model. We consider CP-violating observables in the decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle in this class of models. We show that: (i) Neutrino physics requires a strong correlation between three different pairs of phases, thus reducing the eff…
A R-parity breaking SUSY model characterized by an effective bilinear violation with only $τ$-lepton number breaking in the superpotential is outlined. The CP-odd Higgs boson masses and those of charged Higgs bosons are discussed. In the model, several interesting mass mixings else such as the mixing between $τ$ lepton and charginos etc in the model are discussed too. Being one of example, we have computed the mixing production $e^{+} e^{-} \to τ^{\mp} \tildeκ^{\pm}_{i} (i=1,2)$ in e^+ e^- colliders, where $τ^{\mp}, \tildeκ^{\pm}_{i}(i=1,2)$ denote the physical $τ$ lepton and charginos.
We discuss general predictions for neutrino masses and mixing angles from R parity violation in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. If the soft supersymmetry breaking terms are flavor blind at short distance, then the leptonic analogue of the CKM matrix depends on only two real parameters, which are completely determined by fits to solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations. Either the small angle MSW, large angle MSW, or ``just-so'' solutions to the solar neutrino problem are allowed, although the large angle MSW solution requires substantial fine-tuning. The latter two cases require …
We discuss neutrino parameters in addition with the effects of a Higgs boson of mass $\sim$ 125 GeV in Split Supersymmetry with Bilinear R-Parity Violation. This model allows for the explanation of neutrino masses and mixing angles, and has the gravitino as Dark Matter candidate. We find constraints on the parameters in the neutrino sector of the model by performing a numerical study of the parameter space, and by fitting neutrino oscillation observables and the Higgs mass. In addition, we study in detail the decay of the lightest neutralino in this model and we realize the importance of the e…
We investigate a neutrino mass model in which the neutrino data is accounted for by bilinear R-parity violating supersymmetry with anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking. We focus on the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) phenomenology, studying the reach of generic supersymmetry search channels with leptons, missing energy and jets. A special feature of this model is the existence of long lived neutralinos and charginos which decay inside the detector leading to detached vertices. We demonstrate that the largest reach is obtained in the displaced vertices channel and that practically all of th…
The Minimal Supersymmetric Extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) is able to explain the current data from neutrino physics. Unfortunately Split Supersymmetry as low energy approximation of this theory fails to generate a solar square mass difference, including after the addition of bilinear R-Parity Violation. In this work, it is shown how one can derive an effective low energy theory from the MSSM in the spirit of Split Supersymmetry, which has the potential of explaining the neutrino phenomenology. This is achieved by going beyond leading order in the process of integrating out heavy scalar…
We study extensions of supersymmetric models without R-parity which include an anomalous U(1)_H horizontal symmetry. Bilinear R-parity violating terms induce a neutrino mass at tree level of approximately $(θ^2)^δ$ eV where $θ\approx 0.22$ is the U(1)_H breaking parameter and $δ$ is an integer number that depends on the horizontal charges of the leptons. For $δ=1$ a unique self-consistent model arises in which i) all the superpotential trilinear R-parity violating couplings are forbidden by holomorphy; ii) the tree level neutrino mass falls in the range suggested by the atmospheric neutrino pr…
We investigate a supersymmetric scenario where R-parity is explicitly broken through a term bilinear in the lepton and Higgs superfields in the superpotential. We show that keeping such a term alone can lead to trilinear interactions, similar to those that are parametrized by $λ$-and $λ'$ in the literature, involving the physical fields. The upper limits of such interactions are predictable from the constraints on the parameter space imposed by the lepton masses and the neutrino mass limits. It is observed that thus the resulting trilinear interactions are restricted to values that are smaller…
The simplest unified extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with bi-linear R-parity violation naturally predicts a hierarchical neutrino mass spectrum, suitable to explain atmospheric and solar neutrino fluxes. We study whether the individual violation of the lepton numbers L_{e,mu,tau} in the charged sector can lead to measurable rates for BR(mu->e gamma)and $BR(tau-> mu gamma). We find that some of the R-parity violating terms that are compatible with the observed atmospheric neutrino oscillations could lead to rates for mu->e gamma measurable in projected experiments. Howeve…
Bilinear R-parity violating supersymmetric model is a viable model which can explain the smallness of neutrino masses and the mixing pattern in the lepton sector. In this model, there is a common set of parameters which determine the neutralino and chargino masses, also determine the neutrino masses and the anomalous magnetic moment of muon, $(g-2)_μ$. From the experimental data on neutrino masses and mixing angles, and also from the fact that the experimentally measured value of $(g-2)_μ$ differs from the corresponding standard model value by 3$σ$, we have analyzed some constraints on these m…
Supersymmetric models with bilinear R-parity violation (BRpV) provide a framework for neutrino masses and mixing angles to explain neutrino oscillation data. We consider CP violation within the new physical phases in BRpV and discuss their effect on the generation of neutrino masses and the decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), being a light neutralino with mass $\sim 100$ GeV, at next-to-leading order. The decays affect the lepton and via sphaleron transitions the baryon asymmetry in the early universe. For a rather light LSP, asymmetries generated before the electroweak phase…
R-parity can be violated through either bilinear and/or trilinear terms in the superpotential. The decay properties of sneutrinos can be used to obtain information about the relative importance of these couplings provided sneutrinos are the lightest supersymmetric particles. We show that in some specific scenarios it is even possible to decide whether bilinear or trilinear terms give the dominant contribution to the neutrino mass matrix.
We study a particular texture of the neutrino mass matrix generated in supergravity with bilinear R-Parity violation. The relatively high value of $\tanβ$ makes the one-loop contribution to the neutrino mass matrix as important as the tree-level one. The atmospheric angle is nearly maximal, and its deviation from maximal mixing is related to the smallness of the ratio between the solar and atmospheric mass scales. There is also a common origin for the small values of the solar and reactor angles, but the later is much smaller due the large mass ratio between the lightest two neutrinos. There i…
We study unconventional decays of the top-quark in the framework of SUSY models with spontaneously broken R-parity. In particular we discuss an effective theory which consists of the MSSM plus bilinearly broken R-parity. We demonstrate that the decay modes t -> stau + b and t -> tau + sbottom can have large branching ratios even in scenarios where the tau-neutrino mass is very small. We show that existing Tevatron data already probe the theoretical parameters, with promising prospects for further improvement at the Run 2 of the Tevatron.
The Large Hadron Collider has recently discovered a Higgs-like particle having a mass around 125 GeV and also indicated that there is an enhancement in the Higgs to diphoton decay rate as compared to that in the standard model. We have studied implications of these discoveries in the bilinear R-parity violating supersymmetric model, whose main motivation is to explain the non-zero masses for neutrinos. The R-parity violating parameters in this model are $ε$ and $b_ε$, and these parameters determine the scale of neutrino masses. If the enhancement in the Higgs to diphoton decay rate is true, th…
The straightforward supersymmetrization of the Standard Model (SM) results in a phenomenologically inconsistent theory in which Baryon number ($B$) and Lepton number ($L$) are violated by dimension 4 operators, inducing fast proton decay. Proton stability allows only for separate $L$ or $B$ violation and, if neutrinos are massive Majorana particles, $L$ violating terms must be present. In this thesis I will study a Supersymmetric Standard Model (SSM) realization with $B$ conservation and minimal $L$ violation. In this framework $L$ is mildly violated only by super-renormalizable terms, allowin…
The experimental measurement of $B(b \to sγ)$ imposes important constraints on the charged Higgs boson mass in the MSSM. If squarks are in the few TeV range, the charged Higgs boson mass in the MSSM must satisfy $m_{H^{\pm}} \gsim 440$ GeV. For lighter squarks, then light charged Higgs bosons can be reconciled with $B(b \to sγ)$ only if there is also a light chargino. In the MSSM if we impose $m_{χ^{\pm}_1}>90$ GeV then we need $m_{H^{\pm}} \gsim 110$ GeV. We show that by adding bilinear R--Parity violation (BRpV) in the tau sector, these bounds are relaxed. The bound on $m_{H^{\pm}}$ in the M…
We explore the consequences of promoting bilinear R-parity violation, usually formulated in the minimal supersymmetric standard model framework, to a supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theory. We observe that the limits on proton decay and neutrino mass place tight constraints on the bilinear SU(5) R-parity violating parameters creating a different doublet-triplet issue which cannot be resolved by an extension of the usual fine-tuning in the symmetry breaking scalar sector. If the parameters are made to satisfy the constraints, albeit unnaturally, there remains no room for the possibility to c…
Bilinear R-parity violation (BRpV) provides the simplest and most meaningful way to include such effects into the Minimal Supersymmetrical Standard Model (MSSM). It is defined by a quadratic superpotential term $εL H$ which mixes lepton and Higgs superfields and mimics the effects of models with spontaneous breaking. I review some of its main features and show how large $ε$ values can lead to a small neutrino mass radiatively, without any fine-tuning. I discuss the effect of BRpV on gauge and Yukawa unification, showing how bottom--tau unification can be achieved at any value of $\tanβ$. Howev…
Supersymmetry with broken R-parity can explain the neutrino mass squared differences and mixing angles observed in neutrino oscillation experiments. In the minimal model, where R-parity is broken only by bilinear terms, certain decay properties of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) are correlated with neutrino mixing angles. Here we consider charginos, squarks, gluinos and sneutrinos being the LSP and calculate their decay properties in bilinear R-parity breaking supersymmetry. Together with the decays of charged scalars and neutralinos calculated previously this completes the proof th…
In Split-SUSY with BRpV we show that the Gravitino DM solution is consistent with experimental evidence on its relic density and life time. We arrive at this conclusion by performing a complete numerical and algebraic study of the parameter space, including constraints from the recently determined Higgs mass, updated neutrino physics, and BBN constraints on NLSP decays. The Higgs mass requires a relatively low Split-SUSY mass scale, which is naturally smaller than usual values for reheating temperature, allowing the use of the standard expression for the relic density. We include restrictions …
In supersymmetric models R-parity can be violated through either bilinear or trilinear terms in the superpotential, or both. If charged scalar leptons are the lightest supersymmetric particles, their decay properties can be used to obtain information about the relative importance of these couplings. We show that in some specific scenarios it is even possible to decide whether bilinear or trilinear terms give the dominant contribution to the neutrino mass matrix.
R-parity violating bilinear (soft) terms in the supersymmetric standard model would be the leading source for nonzero neutrino masses and mixing. We point out that the mixing between neutralinos (charginos) and neutrinos (charged leptons) driven by the bilinear terms take factorized forms, which may enable us to probe the neutrino mixing parameters in a collider. It is then shown that the Super-Kamiokande data on atmospheric neutrinos require all the baryon number violating couplings to be substantially suppressed: $λ''_{\rm any} <10^{-9}$.
We study neutrino masses and mixing in R-parity violating supersymmetric models with generic soft supersymmetry breaking terms. Neutrinos acquire masses from various sources: Tree level neutrino--neutralino mixing and loop effects proportional to bilinear and/or trilinear R-parity violating parameters. Each of these contributions is controlled by different parameters and have different suppression or enhancement factors which we identified. Within an Abelian horizontal symmetry framework these factors are related and specific predictions can be made. We found that the main contributions to the…
We present a systematic analysis at the leading log order of the influence of combination of bilinear and trilinear R-parity violating couplings on the decay b-->s gamma. Such contributions have never been explored in the context of this decay. We show that influence of charged-slepton-Higgs mixing mediated loops can dominate the SM and MSSM contributions and hence can provide strong bounds on the combination of bilinear-trilinear R-parity violating couplings. Such contributions are also enhanced by large tan beta. With substantially extended basis of operators (28 operators), we provide illus…
We show that the minimal R-parity breaking model characterized by an effective bilinear violation of R-parity in the superpotential is consistent with minimal N=1 supergravity unification with radiative breaking of the electroweak symmetry and universal scalar and gaugino masses. This one-parameter extension of the MSSM-SUGRA model provides therefore the simplest reference model for the breaking of R-parity and constitutes a consistent truncation of the complete dynamical models with spontaneous R-parity breaking proposed previously. We comment on the lowest-lying CP-even Higgs boson mass and …
We analyze the production of multileptons in the simplest supergravity model with bilinear violation of R parity at the Fermilab Tevatron. Despite the small R-parity violating couplings needed to generate the neutrino masses indicated by current atmospheric neutrino data, the lightest supersymmetric particle is unstable and can decay inside the detector. This leads to a phenomenology quite distinct from that of the R-parity conserving scenario. We quantify by how much the supersymmetric multilepton signals differ from the R-parity conserving expectations, displaying our results in the $m_0 \ot…
We propose a theoretical framework for R-parity violation. It is realized by a class of Calabi--Yau compactification of Heterotic string theory. Trilinear R-parity violation in superpotential is either absent or negligibly small without an unbroken symmetry, due to a selection rule based on charge counting of a spontaneously broken U(1) symmetry. Although such a selection rule cannot be applied in general to non-renormalizable operators in the low-energy effective superpotential, it is valid for terms trilinear in low-energy degrees of freedom, and hence can be used as a solution to the dimens…
The minimal supersymmetric Standard Model with explicit R-parity nonconservation contains bilinear terms involving the left-handed lepton superfields and the Higgs chiral multiplet with hypercharge Y=+1, which cannot in general be rotated away in the presence of soft-supersymmetry- breaking interactions. These bilinear lepton-number-violating terms are found to give rise to non-zero vacuum expectation values of the scalar neutrinos. This leads to nonuniversal and flavour-violating tree-level couplings of the W and Z bosons to charged leptons and neutrinos. The parameter space of this novel sce…
We put constraints on unparticle physics, specifically on the scale $Λ_\U$ and the scale dimension $d_\U$ of unparticle operators, using (i) measurements of atomic parity violation as well as (ii) branching ratio and CP asymmetry measurements in some rare non-leptonic B decay channels.
We extend the minimal supersymmetric standard model with bilinear R-parity violation to include a pair of Higgs triplet superfields. The neutral components of the Higgs triplets develop small vacuum expectation values (VEVs) quadratic in the bilinear R-parity breaking parameters. In this scheme the atmospheric neutrino mass scale arises from bilinear R-parity breaking while for reasonable values of parameters the solar neutrino mass scale is generated from the small Higgs triplet VEVs. We calculate neutrino masses and mixing angles in this model and show how the model can be tested at future c…
