Wave packet fractional revivals is a relevant feature in the long time scale evolution of a wide range of physical systems, including atoms, molecules and nonlinear systems. We show that the sum of information entropies in both position and momentum conjugate spaces is an indicator of fractional revivals by analyzing three different model systems: $(i)$ the infinite square well, $(ii)$ a particle bouncing vertically against a wall in a gravitational field, and $(iii)$ the vibrational dynamics of hydrogen iodide molecules. This description in terms of information entropies complements the usual one in terms of the autocorrelation function.
Quantum carpets- in position and momentum space- woven by the self-interference of de Broglie wave of an atom or an electron, trapped in an infinitely deep potential well, are explained. The recurrence of self-similar structures in designs of these carpets mimics the phenomena of quantum revivals and fractional revivals. We identify fractional revivals of various order by means of these space-time and momentum-time interference patterns.
We examine the dynamical evolution of wave packets in a cubical billiard where three quantum numbers ($n_x,n_y,n_z$) determine its energy spectrum and consequently its dynamical behavior. We have constructed the wave packet in the cubical billiard and have observed its time evolution for various closed orbits. The closed orbits are possible for certain specific values of quantum numbers ($n_x,n_y,n_z$) and initial momenta ($k_x,k_y,k_z$). We observe that a cubical billiard exhibits degenerate energy levels and the path lengths of the closed orbits for these degenerate energy levels are identic…
Fractional revival, known as a quantum transport phenomenon, is essential for entanglement generation in quantum spin networks. The concept of fractional revival is a generalization of perfect state transfer and periodicity on graphs. In this paper, we propose a sufficient and necessary condition for abelian Cayley graphs having fractional revival between any two distinct vertices. With this characterization, two general constructions of abelian Cayley graphs having fractional revival is presented. Meanwhile, we establish several new families of abelian Cayley graphs admitting fractional reviv…
We develop the theory of fractional revival in the quantum walk on a graph using its Laplacian matrix as the Hamiltonian. We first give a spectral characterization of Laplacian fractional revival, which leads to a polynomial time algorithm to check this phenomenon and find the earliest time when it occurs. We then apply the characterization theorem to special families of graphs. In particular, we show that no tree admits Laplacian fractional revival except for the paths on two and three vertices, and the only graphs on a prime number of vertices that admit Laplacian fractional revival are doub…
Certain non-uniformly coupled spin chains can exhibit perfect transfer of quantum states from end to end. Motivated by recent experimental implementations, we extend the simplest such chain to next-to-nearest neighbour (NNN) couplings. It is shown analytically that perfect state transfer can be maintained under the extension and that end-to-end entanglement generation (fractional revival) can occur.
The production of quantum states required for use in quantum protocols & technologies is studied by developing the tools to re-engineer a perfect state transfer spin chain so that a separable input excitation is output over multiple sites. We concentrate in particular on cases where the excitation is superposed over a small subset of the qubits on the spin chain, known as fractional revivals, demonstrating that spin chains are capable of producing a far greater range of fractional revivals than previously known, at high speed. We also provide a numerical technique for generating chains that pr…
We develop a general spectral framework to analyze quantum fractional revival in quantum spin networks. In particular, we introduce generalizations of the notions of cospectral and strongly cospectral vertices to arbitrary subsets of vertices, and give various examples. This work resolves two open questions of Chan et.~al. ["Quantum Fractional Revival on graphs". Discrete Applied Math, 269:86-98, 2019.]
We initiate the study of approximate quantum fractional revival in graphs, a generalization of pretty good quantum state transfer in graphs. We give a complete characterization of approximate fractional revival in a graph in terms of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the adjacency matrix of a graph. This characterization follows from a lemma due to Kronecker on Diophantine approximation, and is similar to the spectral characterization of pretty good state transfer in graphs. Using this, we give a complete characterizations of when approximate fractional revival can occur in paths and in cycl…
We develop generalized coherent states for a class of nonlinear oscillators with position-dependent effective mass in the context of the Gazeau-Klauder formalism and discuss some of their properties. In order to investigate the temporal evolution we first explore the statistical properties by means of weighting distribution and the Mandel parameter. It is found that the temporal evolution of the coherent states may exhibit the phenomena of quantum revivals and fractional revivals for a particular choice of position-dependent mass oscillator.
Fractional revival occurs between two vertices in a graph if a continuous-time quantum walk unitarily maps the characteristic vector of one vertex to a superposition of the characteristic vectors of the two vertices. This phenomenon is relevant in quantum information in particular for entanglement generation in spin networks. We study fractional revival in graphs whose adjacency matrices belong to the Bose-Mesner algebra of association schemes. A specific focus is a characterization of balanced fractional revival (which corresponds to maximal entanglement) in graphs that belong to the Hamming …
Analytic mass-spring chains with dispersionless pulse transfer and fractional revival are presented. These are obtained using the properties of the para-Racah polynomials. This provides classical analogs of the quantum spin chains that realize important tasks in quantum information: perfect state transfer and entanglement generation.
Fractional revival is a quantum transport phenomenon important for entanglement generation in spin networks. This takes place whenever a continuous-time quantum walk maps the characteristic vector of a vertex to a superposition of the characteristic vectors of a subset of vertices containing the initial vertex. A main focus will be on the case when the subset has two vertices. We explore necessary and sufficient spectral conditions for graphs to exhibit fractional revival. This provides a characterization of fractional revival in paths and cycles. Our work builds upon the algebraic machinery d…
We study the dissipative dynamics of a wave packet passing through two different non-linear media. The effect of dissipation on the phenomenon of collapses and revivals of a wave packet as it evolves in a Kerr-type non-linear medium (represented by the Hamiltonian $({a}^† a)^2$) is investigated. We find that partial revivals do take place when dissipation values are moderate. For a certain regime of parameters we find a solution where revivals do not die even in the presence of dissipation and the non-linearity appears to compensate for the energy and coherence loss. We consider the next order…
Quantum revival is described as the time-periodic reconstruction of a wave packet initially localized in space and time. This effect is expected in finite-size systems which exhibits commensurable discrete spectrum such as the infinite quantum well. Here, we report on the experimental observation of full and fractional quantum revival for classical waves in a two dimensional cavity. We consider flexural waves propagating in thin plates, as their quadratic dispersion at low frequencies mimics the dispersion relation of quantum systems governed by Schrödinger equation. Time-dependent excitation …
