A proof is provided of the operational achievability of $R_\mathrm{rt}$ by the recursive training scheme in \cite{zhang07:it}, for general wide-sense stationary and ergodic Rayleigh fading processes.
This paper mainly illustrates the Bit error rate performance of M-ary QAM and M-ary PSK for different values of SNR over Rician Fading channel. A signal experiences multipath propagation in the wireless communication system which causes expeditious signal amplitude fluctuations in time, is defined as fading. Rician Fading is a small signal fading. Rician fading is a hypothetical model for radio propagation inconsistency produced by fractional cancellation of a radio signal by itself and as a result the signal reaches in the receiver by several different paths. In this case, at least one of the…
This paper proposes new accurate approximations for average error probability (AEP) of a communication system employing either $M$-phase-shift keying (PSK) or differential quaternary PSK with Gray coding (GC-DQPSK) modulation schemes over $κ-μ$ shadowed fading channel. Firstly, new accurate approximations of error probability (EP) of both modulation schemes are derived over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Leveraging the trapezoidal integral method, a tight approximate expression of symbol error probability for $M$-PSK modulation is presented, while new upper and lower bounds for …
With no CSI at the users, transmission over the two-user Gaussian Multiple Access Channel with fading and finite constellation at the input, is not efficient because error rates will be high when the channel conditions are poor. However, perfect CSI at the users is an unrealistic assumption in the wireless scenario, as it would involve massive feedback overheads. In this paper we propose a scheme which uses only quantized knowledge of CSI at the transmitters with the overhead being nominal. The users rotate their constellation without varying their transmit power to adapt to the existing chann…
Channel estimation at the receiver side is essential to adaptive modulation schemes, prohibiting low complexity systems from using variable rate and/or variable power transmissions. Towards providing a solution to this problem, we introduce a variable-rate (VR) M-PSK modulation scheme, for communications over fading channels, in the absence of channel gain estimation at the receiver. The choice of the constellation size is based on the signal-plus-noise (S+N) sampling value rather than on the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N). It is analytically shown that S+N can serve as an excellent simpler crite…
This paper studies dual-hop amplify-and-forward relaying over time-varying Rayleigh fading channels with differential M-PSK modulation and non-coherent detection. For the case of "two-symbol" detection, a first order time-series model is utilized to characterize the time-varying nature of the cascaded channel. Based on this model, an exact bit error rate (BER) expression is derived and confirmed with simulation results. The obtained expression shows that the BER is related to the auto-correlation of the cascaded channel and an irreducible error floor exists at high transmit power. To overcome …
Channel Estimation is a major problem encountered by receiver designers for wireless communications systems. The fading channels encountered by the system are usually time variant for a mobile receiver. Besides, the frequency response of the channel is frequency selective for urban environments where the delay spread is quite large compared to the symbol duration. Estimating the channel is essential for equalizing the received data and removing the Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) resulting from the dispersive channel. Hence, conventional transceivers insert pilot symbols of known values and de…
This paper investigates two performance metrics, namely ergodic capacity and symbol error rate, of mmWave communication system assisted by a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS). We assume independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) Rician fadings between user-RIS-Access Point (AP), with RIS surface consisting of passive reflecting elements. First, we derive a new unified closed-form formula for the average symbol error probability of generalised M-QAM/M-PSK signalling over this mmWave link. We then obtain new closed-form expressions for the ergodic capacity with and without channel s…
This paper considers a low-resolution wireless communication system in which transmitted signals are corrupted by fading and additive noise. First, a universal lower bound on the average symbol error probability (SEP), correct for all M-ary modulation schemes, is obtained when the number of quantization bits is not enough to resolve M signal points. Second, in the special case of M-ary phase shift keying (M-PSK), the optimum maximum likelihood detector for equiprobable signal points is derived. Third, utilizing the structure of the derived optimum receiver, a general average SEP expression for…
Consider a multiuser system where an arbitrary number of users communicate with a distributed receive array over independent Rayleigh fading paths. The receive array performs minimum mean squared error (MMSE) or zero forcing (ZF) combining and perfect channel state information is assumed at the receiver. This scenario is well-known and exact analysis is possible when the receive antennas are located in a single array. However, when the antennas are distributed, the individual links all have different average signal to noise ratio (SNRs) and this is a much more challenging problem. In this pape…
A decode and forward protocol based Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) scheme for the half-duplex relay channel, in a Rayleigh fading environment, is presented. The proposed scheme can achieve any spectral efficiency greater than or equal to one bit per channel use (bpcu). A near-ML decoder for the suggested TCM scheme is proposed. It is shown that the high SNR performance of this near-ML decoder approaches the performance of the optimal ML decoder. The high SNR performance of this near-ML decoder is independent of the strength of the Source-Relay link and approaches the performance of the optimal…
To detect spatially-modulated signals, a receiver needs the channel state information (CSI) of each transmit- receive antenna pair. Although the CSI is never perfect and varies in time, most studies on spatial modulation (SM) systems assume perfectly known CSI and time-invariant channel. The spatial correlations among multiple spatial subchannels, which have to be considered when CSI is imperfect, are also often neglected. In this paper, we release the above assumptions and take the CSI uncertainty along with the spatial-temporal selectivities into account. We derive the channel estimation err…
This work presents sample mean and sample variance based features that distinguish continuous phase FSK from QAM and PSK modulations. Root raised cosine pulses are used for signal generation. Support vector machines are employed for signals separation. They are trained for only one value of SNR and used to classify the signals from a wide range of SNR. A priori information about carrier amplitude, carrier phase, carrier offset, roll-off factor and initial symbol phase is relaxed. Effectiveness of the method is tested by observing the joint effects of AWGN, carrier offset, lack of symbol and sa…
In this paper we analyze the performance of 2*4 MIMO-MC-CDMA system in MATLAB which highly reduces BER. In this paper we combine MIMO and MC-CDMA system to reduce bit error rate in which MC-CDMA is multi user and multiple access schemes which is used to increase the data rate of the system. MC-CDMA system is a single wideband frequency selective carrier which converts frequency selective to parallel narrowband flat fading multiple sub-carriers to enhance the performance of system. Now MC-CDMA system further improved by grouping with 2*4 MIMO system which uses ZF (Zero Forcing) decoder at the r…
Stochastic orders are binary relations defined on probability distributions which capture intuitive notions like being larger or being more variable. This paper introduces stochastic ordering of instantaneous SNRs of fading channels as a tool to compare the performance of communication systems over different channels. Stochastic orders unify existing performance metrics such as ergodic capacity, and metrics based on error rate functions for commonly used modulation schemes through their relation with convex, and completely monotonic (c.m.) functions. Toward this goal, performance metrics such …
In this paper, a cyclic-prefixed single-carrier (CPSC) transmission scheme with phase shift keying (PSK) signaling is presented for broadband wireless communications systems empowered by a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS). In the proposed CPSC-RIS, the RIS is configured according to the transmitted PSK symbols such that different cyclically delayed versions of the incident signal are created by the RIS to achieve multipath diversity. A practical and efficient channel estimator is developed for CPSC-RIS and the mean square error of the channel estimation is expressed in closed-form. We …
We study the capacity of discrete memoryless many-to-one interference channels, i.e., K user interference channels where only one receiver faces interference. For a class of many-to-one interference channels, we identify a noisy interference regime, i.e., a regime where random coding and treating interference as noise achieves sum-capacity. Specializing our results to the Gaussian MIMO many-to-one interference channel, which is a special case of the class of channels considered, we obtain new capacity results. Firstly, we extend the noisy interference regime, previously studied for (many-to-on…
