We explore the diffusion process in the non-Markovian spatio-temporal noise.%the escape rate problem in the non-Markovian spatio-temporal random noise. There is a non-trivial short memory regime, i.e., the Markovian limit characterized by a scaling relation between the spatial and temporal correlation lengths. In this regime, a Fokker-Planck equation is derived by expanding the trajectory around the systematic motion and the non-Markovian nature amounts to the systematic reduction of the potential. For a system with the potential barrier, this fact leads to the renormalization of both the barrier height and collisional prefactor in the Kramers escape rate, with the resultant rate showing a maximum at some scaling limit.
We demonstrate the conventional Jarzynski relation (JR) is violated for a non-Markovian process with colored noise. As an example an exactly soluble model is considered with a simple protocol for the external work performed on the system along a non-equilibrium trajectory. For that model we derive an exact expression for the dissipative energy in terms of an arbitrary correlator of the noise characterized by an autocorrelation time $t_c$. As the result we find corrections to the JR in terms of $t_c$. In the limiting case of a Gaussian process as well as an infinitely slow process the conventio…
We study the spatial distributions of two randomly interacting species, in the presence of an external multiplicative colored noise. The dynamics of the ecosystem is described by a coupled map lattice model. We find a nonmonotonic behavior in the formation of large scale spatial correlations as a function of the multiplicative colored noise intensity. This behavior is shifted towards higher values of the noise intensity for increasing correlation time of the noise.
We investigate the non-Markovian dynamics of an open Ising model simulated by a superconducting circuit. The quantum many-body system is weakly coupled to a white, pink- or blue-colored environment. The relaxation of the system in the strong inter-qubit interaction regime shows a metastable behaviour. In comparison with the dissipative system in the Markovian limit, the negative memory of the blue-colored noise weakens the system's relaxation. However, for the pink-colored noise the relaxation rate of the system is enhanced due to the positive memory effect. The understanding of quantum many-b…
Statistical averaging theorems allow us to derive a set of equations for the averaged magnetization dynamics in the presence of colored (non-Markovian) noise. The non-Markovian character of the noise is described by a finite auto-correlation time, tau, that can be identified with the finite response time of the thermal bath to the system of interest. Hitherto, this model was only tested for the case of weakly correlated noise (when tau is equivalent or smaller than the integration timestep). In order to probe its validity for a broader range of auto-correlation times, a non-Markovian integrati…
Using a shortcut way we have derived the Fokker-Planck equation for the Langevin dynamics with a generalized frictional memory kernel and time-dependent force field. Then we have shown that this method is applicable for the non-Markovian dynamics with additional force from harmonic potential or magnetic field or both of them. The simplicity of the method in these complex cases is highly noticeable and it is applicable to derive the Fokker-Planck equation for any kind of linear Langevin equation of motion which describes additive colored noise driven non Markovian dynamics with or without frict…
A stochastic approach for the description of the time evolution of the magnetization of nanomagnets is proposed, that interpolates between the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert and the Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch approximations, by varying the strength of the noise. Its finite autocorrelation time, i.e. when it may be described as colored, rather than white, is, also, taken into account and the consequences, on the scale of the response of the magnetization are investigated. It is shown that the hierarchy for the moments of the magnetization can be closed, by introducing a suitable truncation scheme, whose va…
We investigate the stochastic behavior of a two-temperature Langevin system with non-Markovian thermal reservoirs. The model describes an overdamped Brownian particle in a quadratic potential and coupled to heat baths at different temperatures. The reservoirs are characterized by Gaussian white and colored noises and a dissipation memory kernel. The stationary states present non-trivial average rotational motion influenced by stochastic torques due to harmonic, friction and fluctuating thermal forces. However, the Markovian limit leads to a vanishing average torque produced by fluctuating ther…
We have studied dynamical responses and the Jarzynski equality (JE) of classical open systems described by the generalized Caldeira-Leggett model with the nonlocal system-bath coupling. In the derived non-Markovian Langevin equation, the nonlinear nonlocal dissipative term and state-dependent diffusion term yielding multiplicative colored noise satisfy the fluctuation-dissipation relation. Simulation results for harmonic oscillator systems have shown the following: (a) averaged responses of the system $< x >$ to applied sinusoidal and step forces significantly depend on model parameters of mag…
We consider the non-Markovian Langevin evolution of a dissipative dynamical system in quantum mechanics in the path integral formalism. After discussing the role of the frequency cutoff for the interaction of the system with the heat bath and the kernel and noise correlator that follow from the most common choices, we derive an analytic expansion for the exact non-Markovian dissipation kernel and the corresponding colored noise in the general case that is consistent with the fluctuation-dissipation theorem and incorporates systematically non-local corrections. We illustrate the modifications t…
A coupled map lattice of generalized Lotka-Volterra equations in the presence of colored multiplicative noise is used to analyze the spatiotemporal evolution of three interacting species: one predator and two preys symmetrically competing each other. The correlation of the species concentration over the grid as a function of time and of the noise intensity is investigated. The presence of noise induces pattern formation, whose dimensions show a nonmonotonic behavior as a function of the noise intensity. The colored noise induces a greater dimension of the patterns with respect to the white noi…
Using a time-averaging technique we obtain exactly the probability distribution for position and velocity of a Brownian particle under the influence of two heat baths at different temperatures. These baths are expressed by a white noise term, representing the fast dynamics, and a colored noise term, representing the slow dynamics. Our exact solution scheme accounts for inertial effects, that are not present in approaches that assume the Brownian particle in the over-damped limit. We are also able to obtain the contribution associated with the fast noise that are usually neglected by other appr…
In this paper we have studied a model for self-induced aggregation in Brownian particle incorporating the non-Markovian and non-Gaussian character of the associated random noise process. In this model the time evolution of each individual is guided by an over-damped Langevin equation of motion with a non-local drift resulting from the local unbalance distributions of the other individuals. Our simulation result shows that colored nose can induce the cluster formation even at large noise strength. Another observation is that critical noise strength grows very rapidly with increase of noise corr…
The Dicke model famously exhibits a phase transition to a superradiant phase with a macroscopic population of photons and is realized in multiple settings in open quantum systems. In this work, we study a variant of the Dicke model where the cavity mode is lossy due to the coupling to a Markovian environment while the atomic mode is coupled to a colored bath. We analytically investigate this model by inspecting its low-frequency behavior via the Schwinger-Keldysh field theory and carefully examine the nature of the corresponding superradiant phase transition. Integrating out the fast modes, we…
When nano-magnets are coupled to random external sources, their magnetization becomes a random variable, whose properties are defined by an induced probability density, that can be reconstructed from its moments, using the Langevin equation, for mapping the noise to the dynamical degrees of freedom. When the spin dynamics is discretized in time, a general fluctuation-dissipation theorem, valid for non-Markovian noise, can be established, even when zero modes are present. We discuss the subtleties that arise, when Gilbert damping is present and the mapping between noise and spin degrees of free…
We present a method, based on a non-Markovian Langevin equation, to include quantum corrections to the classical dynamics of ions in a quasi-harmonic system. By properly fitting the correlation function of the noise, one can vary the fluctuations in positions and momenta as a function of the vibrational frequency, and fit them so as to reproduce the quantum-mechanical behavior, with minimal a priori knowledge of the details of the system. We discuss the application of the thermostat to diamond and to ice Ih. We find that results in agreement with path-integral molecular dynamics can be obtaine…
Many complex phenomena occurring in physics, chemistry, biology, finance, etc. can be reduced, by some projection process, to a 1-d stochastic Differential Equation (SDE) for the variable of interest. Typically, this SDE is both non-linear and non-markovian, so a Fokker Planck equation (FPE), for the probability density function (PDF), is generally not obtainable. However, a FPE is desirable because it is the main tool to obtain relevant analytical statistical information such as stationary PDF and First Passage Time. This problem has been addressed by many authors in the past, but due to an in…
We propose a stochastic approach for the description of the time evolution of the magnetization of nanomagnets, that interpolates between the Landau--Lifshitz--Gilbert and the Landau--Lifshitz--Bloch approximations, by varying the strength of the noise. In addition, we take into account the autocorrelation time of the noise and explore the consequences, when it is finite, on the scale of the response of the magnetization, i.e. when it may be described as colored, rather than white, noise and non-Markovian features become relevant. We close the hierarchy for the moments of the magnetization, by…
Low temperature surface diffusion is driven by the thermally activated hopping of adatoms between adsorption sites. Helium spin-echo techniques, capable of measuring the sub-picosecond motion of individual adatoms, have enabled the bench-marking of many important adsorbate-substrate properties. The well-known Markovian Langevin equation has emerged as the standard tool for the interpretation of such experimental data, replacing adatom-substrate interactions with stochastic white noise and linear friction. However, the consequences of ignoring the colored noise spectrum and non-linearities inhe…
This paper is concerned with correlation functions of stochastic systems with memory, a prominent example being a molecule or colloid moving through a complex (e.g., viscoelastic) fluid environment. Analytical investigations of such systems based on non-Markovian stochastic equations are notoriously difficult. A common approximation is that of a single-exponential memory, corresponding to the introduction of one auxiliary variable coupled to the Markovian dynamics of the main variable. As a generalization, we here investigate a class of "toy" models with altogether three degrees of freedom, gi…
We numerically investigate the correlation function, the response and the breakdown of the Fluctuation-Dissipation Theorem (FDT) in active particles close to the motility-induced critical point. We find a strong FDT violation in the short time and wavelength regime, where the response function has a larger amplitude than the fluctuation spectrum. Conversely, at larger spatiotemporal scales, the FDT is restored and the critical slowing-down is compatible with the Ising universality class. Building on these results, we develop a novel field-theoretical description employing a space-time correlat…
Anomalous transport of non-Markovian, thermal Brownian particle dynamics in spatially-periodic symmetric systems that is driven by time-periodic symmetric driving and constant bias is investigated numerically. The Brownian dynamics is modeled by a Generalized Langevin equation with exponentially correlated Gaussian thermal noise, obeying the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. We study the role of non-zero correlation time of thermal fluctuations for the occurrence of absolute negative (linear) mobility (ANM) near zero bias, negative-valued, nonlinear mobility (NNM) and negative differential mobi…
In this work, we introduce two spatio-temporal colored bounded noises, based on the zero-dimensional Cai-Lin and Tsallis-Borland noises. We then study and characterize the dependence of the defined bounded noises on both a temporal correlation parameter $τ$ and on a spatial coupling parameter $λ$. The boundedness of these noises has some consequences on their equilibrium distributions. Indeed in some cases varying $λ$ may induce a transition of the distribution of the noise from bimodality to unimodality. With the aim to study the role played by bounded noises on nonlinear dynamical systems, w…
We have analyzed the phenomenon of stochastic resonance in a system driven by non Gaussian noises. We have considered both white and colored noises. In the latter case we have obtained a consistent Markovian approximation that enables us to get quasi-analytical results for the signal-to-noise ratio. As the system departs from Gaussian behavior, our main findings are: an enhancement of the response together with a notable robustness against noise tuning. These remarkable findings are supported by extensive numerical simulations. We also discuss the relation with some experiments in sensory syst…
A standard approach to analysis of noise-induced effects in stochastic dynamics assumes a Gaussian character of the noise term describing interaction of the analyzed system with its complex surroundings. An additional assumption about the existence of timescale separation between the dynamics of the measured observable and the typical timescale of the noise allows external fluctuations to be modeled as temporally uncorrelated and therefore white. However, in many natural phenomena the assumptions concerning the abovementioned properties of "Gaussianity" and "whiteness" of the noise can be viol…
