We use the generalized entropy four-current of the Muller-Israel-Stewart (MIS) theory of relativistic dissipative fluids to obtain information about fluctuations around equilibrium. This allows one to compute the non-classical coefficients of the entropy 4-flux in terms of the equilibrium distribution functions. The Green-Kubo formulae are used to compute the classical or standard transport coefficients from the fluctuations of entropy due to dissipative fluxes.
We develop a flexible, relativistically covariant parameterization of dense nuclear matter equation of state suited for inclusion in computationally demanding hadronic transport simulations. Within an implementation in the hadronic transport code SMASH, we show that effects due to bulk thermodynamic behavior are reproduced in dynamic hadronic systems, demonstrating that hadronic transport can be used to study critical behavior in dense nuclear matter, both at and away from equilibrium. We also show that two-particle correlations calculated from hadronic transport simulation data follow theoret…
We calculate the transport coefficients like shear viscosity and electrical conductivity with respect to density of dense hadronic and quark matter. By considering the simple massless limit for the quark matter and two different effective models for the hadronic matter, we have estimated the transport coefficients of the two phases separately. We have sketched the density profile of the transport coefficients in two parts viz. the phase-space part and the relaxation time part. By calculating the shear viscosity to density ratio, we have also explored the nearly perfect fluid domain of the quar…
We have theoretically investigated the finite system size effect of hadronic matter on its transport coefficients like shear viscosity, bulk viscosity, and electrical conductivity. We have used a Hadron Resonance Gas (HRG) model to calculate the thermodynamical quantities like entropy density, speed of sound and also the above transport coefficients. All these quantities are found to be sensitive to finite system size effects of hadronic matter. The effect of finite system size is found to be more when the system is at low temperatures and gets reduced at high temperatures. Owing to the intima…
Electric charge transport of hadronic matter at finite temperature and magnetic field is studied within the linear sigma model. Anisotropic transport coefficients associated with the charge transport are estimated both in the weak and strong regimes of the magnetic field using the transport theory approach. In a weakly magnetized medium, the magnetic field effects are incorporated through the Lorentz force term in the Boltzmann equation. Strong magnetic field puts further constraints on the motion of charged particles through Landau quantization. Magnetic field-dependent thermal relaxation tim…
In this work the non-equilibrium dilepton production from a hadronic transport approach (SMASH) is presented. The dilepton emission from the hadronic stage is of interest for current HADES results measured at GSI in the beam energy range from 1.25 - 3.5 GeV. Also at high collision energies (RHIC/LHC) the later dilute stages of the reaction are dominated by hadronic dynamics. The newly developed hadronic transport approach called SMASH (=Simulating Many Accelerated Strongly-interacting Hadrons) is introduced first. After explaining the basic interaction mechanisms, a comparison of elementary cr…
We describe ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions at RHIC and the LHC with a hybrid model using the IP-Glasma model for the earliest stage and viscous hydrodynamics and microscopic transport for the later stages of the collision. We demonstrate that within this framework the bulk viscosity of the plasma plays an important role in describing the experimentally observed radial flow and azimuthal anisotropy simultaneously. We further investigate the dependence of observables on the temperature below which we employ the microscopic transport description.
Collective flow observables are known to be a sensitive tool to gain insights on the equation of state of nuclear matter from heavy-ion collision observations. Towards more quantitative constraints one has to carefully assess other influences on the collective behaviour. In this work a hadronic transport approach SMASH (Simulating Many Accelerated Strongly-interacting Hadrons) is applied to study the first four anisotropic flow coefficients in Au+Au collisions at $E_{\rm lab}=1.23A$ GeV in the context of the recently measured data by the HADES collaboration. In particular, the formation of lig…
Quark-Gluon plasmas produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions quickly expand and cool, entering a phase consisting of multiple interacting hadronic resonances just below the QCD deconfinement temperature, $T\sim 155$ MeV. Numerical microscopic simulations have emerged as the principal method for modeling the behavior of the hadronic stage of heavy-ion collisions, but the transport properties that characterize these simulations are not well understood. Methods are presented here for extracting the shear viscosity, and two transport parameters that emerge in Israel-Stewart hydrodynamics. The…
We investigate general frameworks for calculating transport coefficients for quasiparticle theories at finite temperature. Hadronic transport coefficients are then computed using the linear sigma model (LSM). The bulk viscosity over entropy density ($ζ/s$) is evaluated in the relaxation time approximation (RTA) and the specific shear viscosity ($η/s$) and static electrical conductivity ($σ_{el}/T$) are both obtained in the RTA and using a functional variational approach. Results are shown for different values of the scalar-isoscalar hadron vacuum mass with in-medium masses for the interacting …
Hadronic transport approaches based on an effective solution of the relativistic Boltzmann equation are widely applied for the dynamical description of heavy ion reactions at low beam energies. At high densities, the assumption of binary interactions often used in hadronic transport approaches may not be applicable anymore. Therefore, we effectively simulate the high-density regime using the local forced canonical thermalization. This framework provides the opportunity to interpolate in a dynamical way between two different limits of kinetic theory: the dilute gas approximation and the ideal f…
Microscopic transport approaches are the tool to describe the non-equilibrium evolution in low energy collisions as well as in the late dilute stages of high-energy collisions. Here, a newly developed hadronic transport approach, SMASH (Simulating Many Accelerated Strongly-interacting Hadrons) is introduced. The overall bulk dynamics in low energy heavy ion collisions is shown including the excitation function of elliptic flow employing several equations of state. The implications of this new approach for dilepton production are discussed and preliminary results for afterburner calculations at…
The stopping of baryons in heavy ion collisions at beam momenta of $p_{\rm lab} = 20-160A$ GeV is lacking a quantitative description within theoretical calculations. Heavy ion reactions at these energies are experimentally explored at the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and will be studied at future facilities such as FAIR and NICA. Since the net baryon density is determined by the amount of stopping, this is the pre-requisiste for any investigation of other observables related to structures in the QCD phase diagram such as a first-order phase tran…
We estimate various transport coefficients of hot and dense hadronic matter in the presence of magnetic field. The estimation is done through solutions of the relativistic Boltzmann transport equation in the relaxation time approximation. We have investigated the temperature and the baryon chemical potential dependence of these transport coefficients. Explicit calculations are done for the hadronic matter in the ambit of hadron resonance gas model. We estimate thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity and the shear viscosity of hadronic matter in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. Ma…

In general, the constituents of the bulk matter produced in heavy-ion collisions carry, besides electric charge, multiple other conserved quantum numbers like baryon number and strangeness. Therefore, an electric field will not only generate an electric current but, at the same time, also currents in baryon number and strangeness. We propose that the impact of the electric field on these conserved currents should be characterized by additional transport coefficients, which we call cross-conductivities. In this paper, we introduce and present a calculation of these cross-conductivities from the…
The dilepton emission in heavy-ion reactions at low beam energies is examined within a hadronic transport approach. In this article the production of electron-positron pairs from a new approach named SMASH (Simulating Many Accelerated Strongly-interacting Hadrons) is introduced. The dilepton emission is consistently taken into account below the hadronic threshold. The calculations are systematically confronted with HADES data in the kinetic energy range of $1 - 3.5A$ GeV for elementary, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus reactions. The present approach employing a resonance treatment based on …
We calculate the transport coefficient of hadronic matter in the presence of temperature and magnetic field using the linear sigma model. In the relaxation time approximation, we estimate the shear viscosity over entropy density $η/s$. The point-like interaction rates of hadrons are evaluated through the $S$-matrix approach in the presence of a magnetic field to obtain the temperature and magnetic field-dependent relaxation time. We observe that the transport coefficients are anisotropic in the presence of the magnetic field. We calculate the temperature and magnetic field-dependent anisotropi…
The drag and diffusion coefficients of a hot hadronic medium have been evaluated by using hidden charm mesons as probes. The matrix elements for the evaluation of these coefficients are calculated using an effective theory as well as from scattering lengths. Although the transport coefficients show a significant rise with temperature its effects on the suppression of $J/ψ$ in hadronic matter is not significant.
A hybrid (hydrodynamics + hadronic transport) theoretical framework is assembled to model the bulk dynamics of relativistic heavy-ion collisions at energies accessible in the Beam Energy Scan (BES) program at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) and the NA61/SHINE experiment at CERN. The system's energy-momentum tensor and net baryon current are evolved according to relativistic hydrodynamics with finite shear viscosity and non-zero net baryon diffusion. Our hydrodynamic description is matched to a hadronic transport model in the dilute region. With this fully integrated theoretical fram…
