High Resolution $λ$=1mm CARMA Observations of Large Molecules in Orion-KL

We present high resolution, Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-Wave Astronomy (CARMA), $λ$=1mm observations of several molecular species toward Orion-KL. These are the highest spatial and spectral resolution 1mm observations of these molecules to date. Our observations show that ethyl cyanide [C$_2$H$_5$CN] and vinyl cyanide [C$_2$H$_3$CN] originate from multiple cores near the Orion hot core and IRc7. Additionally we show that dimethyl ether [(CH$_3$)$_2$O] and methyl formate [HCOOCH$_3$] originate from IRc5 and IRc6 and that acetone [(CH$_3$)$_2$CO] originates only from areas where both N-bearing and O-bearing species are present.

Proplyds and Massive Disks in the Orion Nebula Cluster Imaged with CARMA and SMA

[Abridged] We imaged a 2' x 2' region of the Orion Nebula cluster in 1.3 mm wavelength continuum emission with the recently commissioned Combined Array for Research in Millimeter Astronomy (CARMA) and with the Submillimeter Array (SMA). Our mosaics include >250 known near-IR cluster members, of which 36 are so-called "proplyds" that have been imaged previously with the Hubble Space Telescope. We detected 40 sources in 1 mm continuum emission, and several of them are spatially resolved with our observations. ISO-LWS detection of the 112 micron HD J=1-0 line toward the Orion Bar

We report the first detection outside of the solar system of the lowest pure rotational J=1-0 transition of the HD molecule at 112 microns. The detection was made toward the Orion Bar using the Fabry-Perot of the Long Wavelength Spectrometer (LWS) on board the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO). The line appears in emission with an integrated flux of (0.93+/-0.17)e-19 Watts per cm squared in the LWS beam, implying a beam-averaged column density in the v=0, J=1 state of (1.2+/-0.2)e17 molecules per cm squared. Trans-ethyl methyl ether in space - A new look at a complex molecule in selected hot core regions

An extensive search for the complex molecule trans-ethyl methyl ether towards several hot core regions has been performed. Using the IRAM 30m telescope and the SEST 15m we looked at several frequencies where trans-ethyl methyl ether has strong transitions, as well as lines which are particularly sensitive to the physical conditions in which the molecule can be found. We included G34.26, NGC6334(I), Orion KL, and W51e2 which have previously been proven to have a rich chemistry of complex molecules. A Spectral Line Survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHZ toward Orion-KL

We present the results of a spectral line survey from 138.3 to 150.7 GHz toward Orion-KL. The observations were made using the 14 m radio telescope of Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. Typical system temperatures were between 500 and 700 K, with the sensitivity between $0.02 - 0.06$ K in units of $\rm T_A^*$. A total of 149 line spectra are detected in this survey. Fifty lines have been previously reported, however we find 99 new detections. Among these new lines, 32 are `unidentified', while 67 are from molecular transitions with known identifications. A spectral survey of the Star Forming Core of the Orion Nebula from 455 -- 507 GHz

The results of a submillimetre wavelength spectral line survey between 455.1 -- 507.4 GHz of the Orion-KL hot cloud core are reported. A total of 254 lines were detected to a main beam brightness temperature sensitivity ~ 1 - 3 K. The detected lines are identified as being associated with 30 different molecular species or their isotopomeric variants. The strongest line detected was the J = 4-3 transition of the CO molecule. Detection of Interstellar Acetone Toward the Orion-KL Hot Core

We present the first detection of interstellar acetone [(CH3)2CO] toward the high mass star forming region Orion-KL and the first detection of vibrationally excited (CH3)2CO in the ISM. Using the BIMA Array, 28 emission features that can be assigned to 54 acetone transitions were detected. Furthermore, 37 of these transitions have not been previously observed in the ISM. The observations also show that the acetone emission is concentrated toward the hot core region of Orion-KL, contrary to the distribution of other large oxygen bearing molecules. Dichotomy in the Dynamical Status of Massive Cores in Orion

To study the evolution of high mass cores, we have searched for evidence of collapse motions in a large sample of starless cores in the Orion molecular cloud. We used the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory telescope to obtain spectra of the optically thin (\H13CO+) and optically thick (\HCO+) high density tracer molecules in 27 cores with masses $>$ 1 \Ms. The red- and blue-asymmetries seen in the line profiles of the optically thick line with respect to the optically thin line indicate that 2/3 of these cores are not static. Submm line imaging of Orion-KL with the Submillimeter Array

We present the first submm (865mum) imaging spectral line survey at one arcsecond resolution conducted with the Submillimeter Array toward Orion-KL. Within the 2x2 GHz bandpasses (lower and upper sidebands, 337.2-339.2GHz and 347.2-349.2GHz), we find about 145 spectral lines from 13 species, 6 isotopologues, and 5 vibrational excited states. Most nitrogen-bearing molecules are strong toward the hot core, whereas the oxygen-bearing molecules peak toward the south-west in the so-called compact ridge. N2H+ and HC3N Observations of the Orion A Cloud

The ``integral-shaped filament'' of the Orion A giant molecular cloud was mapped in N2H+, and its northern end, the OMC-2/3 region was observed also in HC3N and CCS. The N2H+ distribution is similar to the dust continuum distribution, except for the central part of the Orion Nebula. The distribution of H13CO+ holds resemblance to that of dust continuum, but the N2H+ distribution looks more similar to dust continuum distribution. ISO-SWS observations of pure rotational water absorption lines toward Orion-IRc2

First detections of thermal water vapor absorption lines have been made toward Orion IRc2 using the Short Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) on board the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO). Grating spectra covering wavelengths 25-45 micron yield 19 pure rotational lines, originating from energy levels 200-750 K above ground. Fabry-Perot spectra of 5 transitions resolve the line profiles and reveal the water gas kinematics. Comparative study of complex N- and O-bearing molecules in hot molecular cores

We have observed several emission lines of two Nitrogen-bearing (C2H5CN and C2H3CN) and two Oxygen-bearing (CH3OCH3 and HCOOCH3) molecules towards a sample of well-known hot molecular cores (HMCs) in order to check whether the chemical differentiation seen in the Orion-HMC and W3(H_2O) between O- and N-bearing molecules is a general property of HMCs. With the IRAM-30m telescope we have observed 12 HMCs in 21 bands, centered at frequencies from 86250 to 258280 MHz. The rotational temperatures obtained range from ~100 to ~150 K in these HMCs. Resetting chemical clocks of hot cores based on S-bearing molecules

We report a theoretical study of sulphur chemistry, as applied to hot cores, where S-bearing molecular ratios have been previously proposed and used as chemical clocks. As in previous models, we follow the S-bearing molecular composition after the injection of grain mantle components into the gas phase. For this study, we developed a time-dependent chemical model with up-to-date reaction rate coefficients. Molecular Hydrogen in the Direction of zeta Ori A

Lyman and Werner band absorption features from interstellar molecular hydrogen in rotational levels J = 0, 1, 2, 3 and 5 were observed in the spectrum of zeta Ori A by the Interstellar Medium Absorption Profile Spectrograph (IMAPS).
