We discuss several aspects of direct CP asymmetries in B decays, which are very useful in spite of hadronic uncertainties in asymmetry calculations. 1) Asymmetries in decays to $D^{(*)}K^{(*)}$, $π^+π^-, ρ^+ρ^-$, providing precision tests for the CKM phase $γ$. 2) Null tests in $B^+\to J/ψK^+, π^+π^0$, where a nonzero asymmetry provides evidence for New Physics. 3) Isospin and broken flavor SU(3) relations among CP asymmetries in $B\to Kπ, ππ$ predicting $A_{CP}(B^0\to K^0π^0)$ and $A_{CP}(B^0\to π^0π^0)$. 4) The significance of $A_{CP}(B^0\to K^+π^-)\ne A_{CP}(B^+\to K^+π^0)$. 5) A potentially stringent constraint on $γ$ from $A_{CP}(B^+\to K^+π^0)$ and $R_c\equiv 2Γ(B^+\to K^+π^0)/Γ(B^+\to K^0π^+)$. 6) The role of direct CP asymmetries in $b\to s\bar qq$ decays for studying the origin of potential New Physics.
Observation in astronomy suggests that our Universe contains an abundance of matter over antimatter, which can only be explained if the combined CP symmetry is violated. Studies of CP violation have driven the flavor physics with the aim of testing the Standard Model of particle physics and searching for physics beyond. CP violation is discovered in strange, beauty and charm meson systems, however no conclusive sign of CP violation in baryon decays has been observed yet. This review summarizes CP violation studies performed by the LHCb experiment in charmless decays and rare decays of beauty b…
Since the discovery of CP violation more than 5 decades ago, this phenomenon is still attracting a lot of interest. Among the many fascinating aspects of this subject, this review is dedicated to direct CP violation in non-leptonic decays. The advances within the last decade have been enormous, driven by the increasingly large samples of b- and c-hadron decays, and have led to very interesting results such as large CP asymmetries in charmless B decays and the observation of direct CP violation in the charm sector. We address the quest for understanding the origin of strong phases, the importan…
The "10$^{\rm th}$ International Workshop on the CKM Unitary Triangle" took place at the University of Heidelberg on September 17$^{\rm th}$-21$^{\rm st}$, 2018. In this write-up, we summarize the material discussed at the workshop by the Working Group 7, which focused on latest experimental results and theoretical developments in the study of mixing and $CP$ violation in the neutral $D$ system, and of $CP$ violation and decay properties of other charm mesons and baryons.
We report expected sensitivities for the measurement of the three angles of the Unitarity Triangle in B meson decays using 50 ab-1 of electron-positron collisions recorded by the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider at KEK, Japan.
CP violation offers a powerful probe for testing the Standard Model. In this endeavour, non-leptonic decays of B mesons play a key role. I will discuss benchmark decays and puzzling patterns emerging from theoretical analyses of the current data.
The mechanism of CP violation remains one of the puzzles in particle physics. Key to understanding this phenomenon are nonleptonic $B$ decays, especially multibody decays which exhibit large CP asymmetries in various regions of phase space. A full QCD-based theoretical description of these decays is still missing, requiring the use of models to fit the data. In this paper, we suggest a model ansatz which reflects the underlying physics and the known mechanism of CP violation via the CKM matrix. In addition, since CP violation is driven by the interference between amplitudes with and without va…
