A toy model is proposed in which the cosmological constant and the baryon number density of the universe are interrelated. The model combines the mechanism of Dimopoulos and Susskind in which the baryon number density of the universe is generated by the time-dependence of the phase of a complex scalar field, i.e. its `angular momentum' in the two-dimensinal complex field space, with that of Yoshimura in which the `centrifugal force' due the `angular momentum' pushes the vacuum expectation value of the scalar field out of a negative potential minimum and provides a small but positive cosmological constant. Unfortunately, our model fails to relate the smallness of the two numbers directly, requiring a fine-tuning of the negative potential minimum.
We consider a mechanism of dark matter production in the course of first order phase transition. We assume that there is an asymmetry between X- and anti-X-particles of dark sector. In particular, it may be related to the baryon asymmetry. We also assume that the phase transition is so strongly first order, that X-particles do not permeate into the new phase. In this case, as the bubbles of old phase collapse, X-particles are packed into Q-balls with huge mass defect. These Q-balls compose the present dark matter. We find that the required present dark matter density is obtained for the energy…
In this article, we discuss the mechanism for generating the lepton/baryon number and its subsequent conservation based on extradimensional evolution. The internal angular momentum of extra space is related to the lepton/baryon charge. Extra space metric are assumed to be initially asymmetric. Symmetries appear during inflation due to an increase in entropy. Using the multidimensional field toy model, we show that internal angular momentum can accumulate in fermions, which could explain the lepton/baryon asymmetry of the Universe.
The minimal gauged U(1)$_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model is a simple extension of the Standard Model and has a strong predictive power for the neutrino sector. In particular, the mass spectrum and couplings of heavy right-handed neutrinos are determined as functions of three neutrino Dirac Yukawa couplings, with which we can evaluate the baryon asymmetry of the Universe generated through their decay, i.e., leptogenesis. In this letter, we study leptogenesis in the minimal gauged U(1)$_{L_μ-L_τ}$ model. It turns out that the sign of the resultant baryon asymmetry for the case with the Dirac CP phase, $δ$, lar…
Within the Machian model of the universe the dark energy is identified with the Machian energy of collective gravitational interactions of all particles inside the horizon. It is shown that the fine structure constant can be expressed in terms of the observed radiative, baryon and dark energy densities of the universe and the densities of various matter components are interrelated via it.
We present the cosmological constraints on the cross section of baryon-dark matter interactions for the dark matter mass below the MeV scale from the Planck CMB (cosmic microwave background) and SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey) Lyman-$α$ forest data. To explore the dark matter mass $m_χ\lesssim 1$ MeV for which the dark matter's free-streaming effect can suppress the observable small scale density fluctuations, in addition to the acoustic oscillation damping in existence of the baryon-dark matter coupling, we apply the approximated treatment of dark matter free-streaming analogous to that of th…
We discuss the correlation between the CP violating Dirac phase of the lepton mixing matrix and the cosmological baryon asymmetry based on the leptogenesis in the minimal seesaw model with two right-handed Majorana neutrinos and the trimaximal mixing for neutrino flavors. The sign of the CP violating Dirac phase at low energy is fixed by the observed cosmological baryon asymmetry since there is only one phase parameter in the model. According to the recent T2K and NO$ν$A data of the CP violation, the Dirac neutrino mass matrix of our model is fixed only for the normal hierarchy of neutrino mas…
We examine the cosmological and astrophysical signatures of a "dark baryon," a neutral fermion that mixes with the neutron. As the mixing is through a higher-dimensional operator at the quark level, production of the dark baryon at high energies is enhanced so that its abundance in the early universe may be significant. Treating its initial abundance as a free parameter, we derive new, powerful limits on the properties of the dark baryon. Primordial nucleosynthesis and the cosmic microwave background provide strong constraints due to the inter-conversion of neutrons to dark baryons through the…
We derive new limits on the elastic scattering cross-section between baryons and dark matter using Cosmic Microwave Background data from the Planck satellite and measurements of the Lyman-alpha forest flux power spectrum from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Our analysis addresses generic cross sections of the form $σ\propto v^n$, where v is the dark matter-baryon relative velocity, allowing for constraints on the cross section independent of specific particle physics models. We include high-$\ell$ polarization data from Planck in our analysis, improving over previous constraints. We apply a more…
We use the Risaliti & Lusso (2015) compilation of 808 X-ray and UV flux measurements of quasars (QSOs) in the redshift range $0.061 \leq z \leq 6.28$, alone and in conjuction with baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and Hubble parameter [$H(z)$] measurements, to constrain cosmological parameters in six cosmological models. The QSO data constraints are significantly weaker than, but consistent with, those from the $H(z)$ + BAO data. A joint analysis of the QSO + $H(z)$ + BAO data is consistent with the current standard model, spatially-flat $Λ$CDM, but mildly favors closed spatial hypersurfaces a…
We investigate cosmological aspects of spontaneous baryogenesis driven by a scalar field, and present general constraints that are independent of the particle physics model. The relevant constraints are obtained by studying the backreaction of the produced baryons on the scalar field, the cosmological expansion history after baryogenesis, and the baryon isocurvature perturbations. We show that cosmological considerations alone provide powerful constraints, especially for the minimal scenario with a quadratic scalar potential. Intriguingly, we find that for a given inflation scale, the other pa…
We investigate the constraints on the sum of neutrino masses ($Σm_ν$) using the most recent cosmological data, which combines the distance measurement from baryonic acoustic oscillation in the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey DR14 quasar sample with the power spectra of temperature and polarization anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background from the Planck 2015 data release. We also use other low-redshift observations including the baryonic acoustic oscillation at relatively low redshifts, the supernovae of type Ia and the local measurement of Hubble constant. In the stand…
We present cosmological constraints arising from the first measurement of the radial (line-of-sight) baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) scale in the large scale structure traced by the galaxy distribution. Here we use these radial BAO measurements at z = 0.24 and z = 0.43 to derive new constraints on dark energy and its equation of state for a flat universe, without any other assumptions on the cosmological model: w = -1.14 +/- 0.39 (assumed constant), Omega_m = 0.24+0.06-0.05. If we drop the assumption of flatness and include previous cosmic microwave background and supernova measurements, we…
We revise the cosmological phenomenology of Macroscopic Dark Matter (MDM) candidates, also commonly dubbed as Macros. A possible signature of MDM is the capture of baryons from the cosmological plasma in the pre-recombination epoch, with the consequent injection of high-energy photons in the baryon-photon plasma. By keeping a phenomenological approach, we consider two broad classes of MDM in which Macros are composed either of ordinary matter or antimatter. In both scenarios, we also analyze the impact of a non-vanishing electric charge carried by Macros. We derive constraints on the Macro par…
In the paper, we consider two models in which dark energy is coupled with either dust matter or dark matter, and discuss the conditions that allow more time for structure formation to take place at high redshifts. These models are expected to have a larger age of the universe than that of $Λ$CDM [universe consists of cold dark matter (CDM) and dark energy (a cosmological constant, $Λ$)], so it can explain the formation of high redshift gravitationally bound systems which the $Λ$CDM model cannot interpret. We use the observational Hubble parameter data (OHD) and Hubble parameter obtained from c…
We investigate the Q-ball decay in the gauge-mediated SUSY breaking. Q balls decay mainly into nucleons, and partially into gravitinos, while they are kinematically forbidden to decay into sparticles which would be cosmologically harmful. This is achieved by the Q-ball charge small enough to be unstable for the decay, and large enough to be protected kinematically from unwanted decay channel. We can then have right amounts of the baryon asymmetry and the dark matter of the universe, evading any astrophysical and cosmological observational constraints such as the big bang nucleosynthesis, which…
We consider the recently proposed possibility that dark energy (DE) and baryons may scatter through a pure momentum exchange process, leaving the background evolution unaffected. Earlier work has shown that, even for barn-scale cross-sections, the imprints of this scattering process on linear cosmological observables is too tiny to be observed. We therefore turn our attention to non-linear scales, and for the first time investigate the signatures of DE-baryon scattering on the non-linear formation of cosmic structures, by running a suite of large N-body simulations. The observables we extract …
We investigate the dark matter and the cosmological baryon asymmetry in a simple theory where baryon (B) and lepton (L) number are local gauge symmetries that are spontaneously broken. In this model, the cold dark matter candidate is the lightest new field with baryon number and its stability is an automatic consequence of the gauge symmetry. Dark matter annihilation is either through a leptophobic gauge boson whose mass must be below a TeV or through the Higgs boson. Since the mass of the leptophobic gauge boson has to be below the TeV scale one finds that in the first scenario there is a low…
A novel mechanism of cosmological baryogenesis through baryon capture by primordial black holes is suggested. In contrast to the conventional scenarios it does not demand non-conservation of baryonic number in particle physics and can proceed in thermal equilibrium. For implementation of this mechanism a heavy superweakly interacting particle a with non-zero baryon number is necessary.
We have refined our previously suggested scenario of generation of the cosmological baryon asymmetry through an asymmetric capture of baryons and antibaryons by primordial block hole arXiv:2009.04361. It is found that in the limit of weak interactions of hypothetical heavy baryons with the primeval plasma the effect can be strongly enhanced and the observed magnitude of the asymmetry can be obtained for a wide range of the model parameters.
We use Pantheon Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) apparent magnitude, DES-3yr binned SN Ia apparent magnitude, Hubble parameter, and baryon acoustic oscillation measurements to constrain six spatially flat and non-flat cosmological models. These sets of data provide mutually consistent cosmological constraints in the six cosmological models we study. A joint analysis of these data sets provides model-independent estimates of the Hubble constant, $H_0=68.8\pm1.8\ \rm{km \ s^{-1} \ Mpc^{-1}}$, and the non-relativistic matter density parameter, $Ω_{\rm m_0}=0.294\pm0.020$. Although the joint constraints …

We use all available baryon acoustic oscillation distance measurements and Hubble parameter data to constrain the cosmological constant $Λ$, dynamical dark energy, and spatial curvature in simple cosmological models. We find that the consensus spatially flat $Λ$CDM model provides a reasonable fit to the data, but depending on the Hubble constant prior and cosmological model, it can be a little more than 1$σ$ away from the best-fit model, which can favor mild dark energy dynamics or non-flat spatial hypersurfaces.
In this work we review the theories of origin of matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Universe. The general conditions for achieving baryogenesis and leptogenesis in a CPT conserving field theory have been laid down by Sakharov. In this review we discuss scenarios where a background scalar or gravitational field spontaneously breaks the CPT symmetry and splits the energy levels between particles and anti-particles. Baryon or Lepton number violating processes in proceeding at thermal equilibrium in such backgrounds gives rise to Baryon or Lepton number asymmetry.
We propose a novel scenario to explain the observed cosmological asymmetry between matter and antimatter, based on nonperturbative QCD physics. This scenario relies on a mechanism of separation of quarks and antiquarks in two coexisting phases at the end of the cosmological QCD phase transition: ordinary hadrons (and antihadrons), along with massive lumps (and antilumps) of novel color superconducting phase. The latter would serve as the cosmological cold dark matter. In certain conditions the separation of charge is C and CP asymmetric and can leave a net excess of hadrons over antihadrons in…
We entertain a new paradigm according to which the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry is generated as a large-scale quantum fluctuation over the baryon-symmetric state that occurred during the cosmic inflation.
One of the biggest puzzles in modern cosmology is the observed baryon asymmetry in the universe. In current models of baryogenesis gravity plays a secondary role, although the process is believed to have happened in the early universe, under the influence of an intense gravitational field. In the present work we resume Sakharov's original program for baryogenesis and propose a central role for gravity in the process. This is achieved through a non-minimal coupling (NMC) between the gravitational field and both the strong interaction field and the quark fields. When in action, the present mecha…
A new determination of the sound horizon scale in angular coordinates is presented. It makes use of ~ 0.6 x 10^6 Luminous Red Galaxies, selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey imaging data, with photometric redshifts. The analysis covers a redshift interval that goes from z=0.5 to z=0.6. We find evidence of the Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) signal at the ~ 2.3 sigma confidence level, with a value of theta_{BAO} (z=0.55) = (3.90 \pm 0.38) degrees, including systematic errors. To our understanding, this is the first direct measurement of the angular BAO scale in the galaxy distribution, …
