Infinitesimal spectral flow and scattering matrix

In this note the notion of infinitesimal scattering matrix is introduced. It is shown that under certain assumption, the scattering operator of a pair of trace compatible operators is equal to the chronological exponential of the infinitesimal scattering matrix and that the trace of the infinitesimal scattering matrix is equal to the absolutely continuous part of the infinitesimal spectral flow. As a corollary, a variant of the Birman-Krein formula is derived. An interpretation of Pushnitski's $μ$-invariant is given.

Scattering on stratified media: the micro-local properties of the scattering matrix and recovering asymptotics of perturbations

The fixed energy scattering matrix is defined on a perturbed stratified medium, and for a class of perturbations, its main part is shown to be a Fourier integral operator on the sphere at infinity. This is facilitated by developing a refined limiting absorption principle. The symbol of the scattering matrix is shown to determine the asymptotics of a large class of perturbations.

The scattering matrix and associated formulas in Hamiltonian mechanics

We survey the basic notions of scattering theory in Hamiltonian mechanics with a particular attention to the analogies with scattering theory in quantum mechanics. We discuss the scattering symplectomorphism, which is analogous to the scattering matrix. We prove identities which relate the Calabi invariant of the scattering symplectomorphism to the total time delay and the regularised phase space volume. These identities are analogous to the Birman-Krein formula and the Eisenbud-Wigner formula in quantum scattering theory.

The spectral density of the scattering matrix of the magnetic Schrodinger operator for high energies

The scattering matrix of the Schrodinger operator with smooth short-range electric and magnetic potentials is considered. The asymptotic density of the eigenvalues of this scattering matrix in the high energy regime is determined. An explicit formula for this density is given. This formula involves only the magnetic vector-potential.

Analogues of the Artin factorization formula for the automorphic scattering matrix and Selberg zeta-function associated to a Kleinian group

For Kleinian groups acting on hyperbolic three-space, we prove factorization formulas for both the Selberg zeta-function and the automorphic scattering matrix. We extend results of Venkov and Zograf from Fuchsian groups, to Kleinian groups, and we give a proof that is simple and extendable to more general groups.

The purpose of this note is to give a mathematical explanation of a formula for the scattering matrix for a manifold with infinite cylindrical ends or a waveguide. The semi-classical scattering matrix from the point of view of Gaussian states

In this note, we will consider semiclassical scattering for compactly supported non-trapping perturbations of the Laplacian on $\mathbb{R}^d$. We will define a family of Gaussian states on $\mathbb{S}^{d-1}$, parametrized by points in $T^*\mathbb{S}^{d-1}$, and show that the action of the scattering matrix on a Gaussian state of parameter $ρ\in T^*\mathbb{S}^{d-1}$ is still a Gaussian state, with parameter $κ(ρ)$, where $κ$ is the (classical) scattering map. Properties of the Scattering Matrix and Dispersion Estimates for Jacobi Operators

We show that for a Jacobi operator with coefficients whose (j+1)'th moments are summable the j'th derivative of the scattering matrix is in the Wiener algebra of functions with summable Fourier coefficients. We use this result to improve the known dispersive estimates with integrable time decay for the time dependent Jacobi equation in the resonant case.

Scattering Matrix in Conformal Geometry

This paper describes the connection between scattering matrices on conformally compact asymptotically Einstein manifolds and conformally invariant objects on their boundaries at infinity. The conformally invariant powers of the Laplacian arise as residues of the scattering matrix and Branson's Q-curvature in even dimensions as a limiting value. The integrated Q-curvature is shown to equal a multiple of the coefficient of the logarithmic term in the renormalized volume expansion.

Resolvent expansions and continuity of the scattering matrix at embedded thresholds: the case of quantum waveguides

We present an inversion formula which can be used to obtain resolvent expansions near embedded thresholds. As an application, we prove for a class of quantum waveguides the absence of accumulation of eigenvalues and the continuity of the scattering matrix at all thresholds.
