Configurations of saddle connections of quadratic differentials on CP1 and on hyperelliptic Riemann surfaces

Configurations of rigid collections of saddle connections are connected component invariants for strata of the moduli space of quadratic differentials. They have been classified for strata of Abelian differentials by Eskin, Masur and Zorich. Similar work for strata of quadratic differentials has been done in Masur and Zorich, although in that case the connected components were not distinguished. We classify the configurations for quadratic differentials on the Riemann sphere and on hyperelliptic connected components of the moduli space of quadratic differentials. We show that, in genera greater than five, any configuration that appears in the hyperelliptic connected component of a stratum also appears in the non-hyperelliptic one.

Period matrices of some hyperelliptic Riemann surfaces

In this paper, we calculate period matrices of algebraic curves defined by $$w^2=z(z^2-1)(z^2-a_1^2)(z^2-a_2^2)\cdots (z^2-a_{g-1}^2)$$ for any $g\geq 2$ and $a_1, a_2, \dots, a_{g-1}\in \mathbb{R}$ with $1<a_1<a_2<\cdots <a_{g-1}$. We construct these algebraic curves from Euclidean polygons. A symplectic basis of these curves are given from the polygons.

A Hyperelliptic View on Teichmuller Space. II

Using the methods of the previous paper [ABG], we show that the Teichmuller space T of all closed Riemann surfaces is fibred twice over the Teichmuller space H of hyperelliptic ones. Both fibre bundles π_1,π_2:T->H are real algebraic (rational). They define an embedding T->HxH. In addition, we indicate slight modifications of the proof of [ABG, Theorem 5.1] providing an elementary proof of Toledo's rigidity theorem.

The Geometry of Two Generator Groups: Hyperelliptic Handlebodies

For two generator free Fuchsian groups, the quotient three manifold is a genus two solid handlebody and its boundary is a hyperelliptic Riemann surface. The convex core is also a hyperelliptic Riemann surface. We find the Weierstrass points of both of these surfaces. We then generalize the notion of a hyperelliptic Riemann surface to a ``hyperelliptic'' three manifold. Short homology bases for hyperelliptic hyperbolic surfaces

Given a hyperelliptic hyperbolic surface $S$ of genus $g \geq 2$, we find bounds on the lengths of homologically independent loops on $S$. The maximum number of systoles for genus two Riemann surfaces with abelian differentials

In this article, we provide bounds on systoles associated to a holomorphic $1$-form $ω$ on a Riemann surface $X$. In particular, we show that if $X$ has genus two, then, up to homotopy, there are at most $10$ systolic loops on $(X,ω)$ and, moreover, that this bound is realized by a unique translation surface up to homothety. For general genus $g$ and a holomorphic 1-form $ω$ with one zero, we provide the optimal upper bound, $6g-3$, on the number of homotopy classes of systoles. If, in addition, $X$ is hyperelliptic, then we prove that the optimal upper bound is $6g-5$.

The distribution of gaps for saddle connection directions

Motivated by the study of billiards in polygons, we prove fine results for the distribution of gaps of directions of saddle connections on translation surfaces. As an application we prove that for almost every holomorphic differential $ω$ on a Riemann surface of genus $g \geq 2$ the smallest gap between saddle connection directions of length at most a fixed length decays faster than quadratically in the length. We also characterize the exceptional set: the decay rate is not faster than quadratic if and only if $ω$ is a lattice surface.

GL(2,R)-Invariant Measures in Marked Strata: Generic Marked Points, Earle-Kra for Strata, and Illumination

We classify GL(2,R) invariant point markings over components of strata of Abelian differentials. Such point markings exist only when the component is hyperelliptic and arise from marking Weierstrass points or two points exchanged by the hyperelliptic involution. We show that these point markings can be used to determine the holomorphic sections of the universal curve restricted to orbifold covers of subvarieties of the moduli space of Riemann surfaces that contain a Teichmuller disk. The finite blocking problem is also solved for translation surfaces with dense GL(2,R) orbit.

Connecting $p$-gonal loci in the compactification of moduli space
