We consider the ultrashort light pulse propagation through an inhomogeneous monomodal optical fiber exhibiting higher-order dispersive effects. Wave propagation is governed by a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation with varying second-, third-, and fourth-order dispersions, cubic nonlinearity, and linear gain or loss. Enhanced mobility of discrete solitons in anisotropic two-dimensional waveguide arrays with modulated separations

We consider two-dimensional waveguide arrays with anisotropic coupling coefficients. We show using numerical and variational calculations that four stationary soliton types exist: Site-Centered, Bond-Centered, Hybrid-X and Hybrid-Y. For the isotropic case the last two modes become identical and equivalent to the known hybrid soliton. Nonlocal surface dipoles and vortices

We predict the existence and address the stability of two-dimensional surface solitons featuring topologically complex shapes, including dipoles, vortices, and bound states of vortex solitons, at the interface of nonlocal thermal media. Unlike their counterparts in bulk media, surface dipoles are found to be stable in the entire existence domain. Surface vortices are found to exhibit strongly asymmetric intensity and phase distributions, and are shown to be stable, too. Warped, Anisotropic Wormhole/Soliton Configurations in Vacuum 5D Gravity

In this paper we apply the anholonomic frames method developed in refs. [1-4] to construct and study anisotropic vacuum field configurations in 5D gravity. Starting with an off--diagonal 5D metric, parameterized in terms of several ansatz functions, we show that using anholonomic frames greatly simplifies the resulting Einstein field equations. On a new approach to optical solitons in dielectric fibers

In this letter we describe a new and simple approach for modulating the electromagnetic wave propagating in a dielectric medium in the form of solitons by considering the torque developed between the induced dipoles in the medium and external field without taking into account the nonlinear Kerr effect. A reductive perturbation method deduces the Maxwell equation coupled with the Larmor equation of the torque to the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation that admits optical solitons in the medium.
