In the extra U(1) superstring inspired model, we examine the electroweak and U(1)-prime symmetry breaking with the singlet and exotic quark D, D+{\c}along with the study of heavy Z-prime boson in accordance with the top quark mass region. For this, we have done the analysis of complete renormalization group equations (RGEs)pertaining to the anomaly free E-{\6}-Eta model of rank 5. The Z-prime is found to the order of TeV or above with allowed small Z-Zprime mixing angle, for which the large singlet VEV is required. This is done by considering the only non-universality of Yukawa couplings at GUT scale because these do not obey the E-{\6}relationship and also satisfies the unitarity constraints both at GUT and weak scale, where rest of the parameters, i.e., gaugino masses, tri-linear couplings, and soft supersymmetric breaking masses are kept universal at GUT scale with the gauge couplings unification. The large value of Yukawa couplings (order of 1) triggered the symmetry breaking radiatively and induces the effective-Mu parameter at the electroweak scale and lead to a viable low energy spectrum at weak scale.
We study the dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking (DEWSB) in the $D (=6,8,...)$-dimensional bulk with compactified extra dimensions. We identify the critical binding strength for triggering the DEWSB, based on the ladder Schwinger-Dyson equation. In the top mode standard model with extra dimensions, where the standard model gauge bosons and the third generation of quarks and leptons are put in the bulk, we analyze the most attractive channel (MAC) by using renormalization group equations (RGEs) of (dimensionless) bulk gauge couplings and determine the effective cutoff where the MAC coupling…
The conventional method using low energy theorems [3] does not seem to lead to an explicit unitarity limit in the scattering processes of longitudinally polarized gauge bosons for the high energy case in the extra U(1) superstring inspired models, commonly known as eta model, emanating from E6 group of superstring theory. We have made use of an alternative procedure given in [14], which is applicable to SUSY GUT. Explicit unitarity bounds on the Yukawa couplings are obtained from both using unitarity constraints as well as using RGE analysis at one-loop level utilizing critical couplings conce…
Perturbative breaking of supersymmetry in four-dimensional string theories predict in general the existence of new large dimensions at the TeV scale. Such dimensions can be consistent with perturbative unification up to the Planck scale in a class of string models and open the exciting possibility of lowering a part of the massive string spectrum at energies accessible to future accelerators. The main signature is the production of Kaluza-Klein excitations which have a very particular structure, strongly correlated with the supersymmetry breaking mechanism. We present a model independent analy…
Utilizing the idea of extra large dimensions, it has been suggested that the gauge and gravity couplings unification can happen at a scale as low as 1 TeV. In this paper, we explore this phenomenological possibility within string theory. In particular, we discuss how the proton decay bound can be satisfied in Type I string theory. The string picture also suggests different scenarios of gauge and gravitational couplings unification. The various scenarios are explicitly illustrated with a specific 4-dimensional N=1 supersymmetric chiral Type I string model with Pati-Salam-like gauge symmetry. We…
The possibility of studying superstring inspired \mbox{${\rm E}_6$} phenomenology at high energy hadron colliders is investigated. A very simple low energy rank-5 Supersymmetric (N=1) model is considered, which consists of three scalar-Higgses, $H^0_{i=1,2,3}\,$, two charged-Higgses, $H^\pm\,$, one pseudo-scalar-Higgses, $P^0\,$, and an extra vector boson, the $Z^\prime$. The production of charged heavy leptons pairs, $L^+L^-\,$, by gluon-gluon fusion and Drell-Yan mechanisms is discussed. For gluon-gluon fusion an enhancement in the parton level cross-section is expected due to the heavy (s)f…
In brane world string models with large extra dimensions, there are processes where fermion and antifermion (or two gluons) can annihilate producing a light particle (e.g. gluon) carrying transverse momentum and a Kaluza-Klein graviton or an excited closed string that propagates in the extra dimensions. In high energy colliders, this process gives a missing momentum signature. We compute the total cross section for this process within the context of type II superstring theory in the presence of a D brane. This includes all missing energy sources for this string theory model up to s=8M_s^2, and…
We investigate the low energy physics implications of a prototype quasi-realistic superstring model with an anomalous U(1). First, we present the techniques utilized to compute the mass spectrum and superpotential couplings at the string scale, and demonstrate the results for the effective theory along a particular flat direction/"restabilized vacuum" of the model. We then analyze the gauge symmetry breaking patterns and renormalization group equations to determine the mass spectrum at the electroweak scale for a particular numerical example with a realistic Z-Z' hierarchy. Although the model …
I discuss gauge coupling unification in a class of superstring standard--like models, which are derived in the free fermionic formulation. Recent calculations indicate that the superstring unification scale is at $O(10^{18}GeV)$ while the minimal supersymmetric standard model is consistent with LEP data if the unification scale is at $O(10^{16})GeV$. A generic feature of the superstring standard--like models is the appearance of extra color triplets $(D,{\bar D})$, and electroweak doublets $(\ell,{\bar\ell})$, in vector--like representations, beyond the minimal supersymmetric standard model. I…
It was recently suggested that the reported anomalies in $R_b$ and $R_c$ can be interpreted as the effect of a heavy vector boson that couples to quarks and is universally decoupled from leptons. We examine how an extra gauge boson with this property can arise from superstring derived models. In a specific three generation model we show that the $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry combines with the horizontal flavor symmetries to form a universal leptophobic $U(1)$ symmetry. In our model there is an enhancement of the color gauge group from twisted sectors. The enhancement occurs after the breaking of the u…
We discuss the special role of right-handed neutrinos in the $μν$SSM for solving the $μ$- and $ν$-problems, simultaneously avoiding the potential domain wall and tadpole problems, In particular, embedding the $μν$SSM in the framework of superstrings implies that not all gauge invariant terms are necessarily present in the superpotential, and thus there is more flexibility to allow only those that avoid the domain wall and tadpole problems to be present. These can be non-renormalizable terms of dimension 4 or terms of higher dimensions. In addition, non-perturbative effects can also solve both …
In theories with TeV scale quantum gravity the standard model particles live on a brane propagating in large extra dimensions. Branes may be stabilized at large (sub-millimeter) distances from each other, either due to weak Van der Waals type interactions, or due to an infrared analog of Witten's inverse hierarchy scenario. In particular, this infrared stabilization may be responsible for a large size of extra dimensions. In either case, thermal effects can drive a brief period of the late inflation necessary to avoid the problems with high reheating temperature and the stable unwanted relics.…
I discuss the calculation of the heavy generation masses in the superstring derived standard-like models. The top quark Yukawa coupling is obtained from a cubic level mass term while the bottom quark and tau lepton mass terms are obtained from nonrenormalizable terms. The calculation of the heavy fermion Yukawa couplings is outlined in detail in a specific toy model. The dependence of the effective bottom quark and tau lepton Yukawa couplings on the flat directions at the string scale is examined. The gauge and Yukawa couplings are extrapolated from the string unification scale to low energies…
We review the possibility that the Supersymmetric Standard Model arises from orbifold constructions of the E_8 x E_8 Heterotic Superstring, and the phenomenological properties that such a model should have. In particular, trying to solve the discrepancy between the unification scale predicted by the Heterotic Superstring (g_{GUT}x5.27x10^{17} GeV) and the value deduced from LEP experiments (2x10^{16} GeV), we will predict the presence at low energies of three families of Higgses and vector-like colour triplets. Our approach relies on the Fayet-Iliopoulos breaking, and this is also a crucial in…
We construct a supersymmetric standard model in the context of the Z_{12-I} orbifold compactification of the E_8 x E_8' heterotic string theory. The gauge group is SU(3)_c x SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y x U(1)^4 x [SO(10) x U(1)^3]' with sin^2θ_W = 3/8. We obtain three families of SO(10) spinor-like chiral matter states, and Higgs doublets. All other extra states are exactly vector-like under the standard model gauge symmetry. There are numerous standard model singlets, many of which get VEVs such that only the standard model gauge symmetry survives and desired Yukawa couplings can be generated at lower e…

Radiative symmetry breaking is studied in a superstring-inspired supersymmetric model which is extended with a low energy extra $U(1)$ symmetry. In this model the $μ$-problem is radiatively solved in an automatic way. The right-handed neutrino can be heavy and the seesaw mechanism will produce the small neutrino mass which makes the MSW solution applicable to the solar neutrino problem. We search a parameter region which has the favorable feature for the radiative symmetry breaking at the weak scale. Rather wide parameter region is found to be allowed. The upper bound of the extra $Z$ boson ma…
We give an overview of recent progress in the study of fermion mass and flavor mixing phenomena. Mass matrix ansatze are considered within the SM and SUSY GUTs where some predictive frameworks based on SU(5) and SO(10) are reviewed. We describe a variety of schemes to construct quark mass matrices in extra dimensions focusing on four major classes: models with the SM residing on 3-brane, models with universal extra dimensions, models with split fermions and models with warped extra dimensions. We outline how realistic patterns of quark mass matrices could be derived from orbifold models in het…
Assuming the existence of a supersymmetric U(1) gauge factor at the TeV energy scale (motivated either by the superstring-inspired E_6 model or low-energy electroweak phenomenology), several important consequences are presented. The two-doublet Higgs structure at the 100 GeV energy scale is shown to be different from that of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). A new neutral gauge boson Z' corresponding to the extra U(1) mixes with the Z. The supersymmetric scalar quarks and leptons receive new contributions to their masses from the spontaneous breaking of this extra U(1). The ass…
A discrete R-symmetry often appears as an exact gauge symmetry in the low energy effective theory of superstring theories. We search for such discrete R-symmetries from a phenomenological point of view and find that Z_{9R} and Z_{18R} are candidates of the nonanomalous R-symmetry in the case of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. We also find Z_{4R} and Z_{20R} in the case that quarks and leptons are embedded in the SU(5) GUT multiplets. Interesting is that in the latter case all the solutions predict some extra matter multiplets and we find that the simplest choice is to take a pair of…
Type IIB superstring models with the standard model gauge group on D3-branes and with massless matter associated with open strings joining D3-branes to D3-branes or D3-branes to ${\rm D}7_3$-branes are studied. Models with gauge coupling constant unification at an intermediate scale between about $10^{10}$ and $10^{12}$GeV and consistency with the observed value of $\sin^2 θ_W (M_Z)$ are obtained. Extra vector-like states and extra pairs of Higgs doublets play a crucial role.
A new analysis of the hadronic peak cross section at LEP 1 implies a small amount of missing invisible width in Z decays, while the effective weak charge in atomic parity violation has been determined recently to 0.6% accuracy, indicating a significantly negative S parameter. As a consequence of these two deviations, the data are described well if the presence of an additional Z' boson, such as predicted in Grand Unified Theories, is assumed. Moreover, the data are now rich enough to study an arbitrary extra Z' boson and to determine its couplings in a model independent way. An excellent best …
We discuss direct production of Regge excitations in the collisions of massless four-dimensional superstring states, focusing on the first excited level of open strings ending on D-branes extending into higher dimensions. We construct covariant vertex operators and identify ``universal'' Regge states with the internal parts either trivial or determined by the world-sheet SCFT describing superstrings propagating on an arbitrary Calabi-Yau manifold. We evaluate the amplitudes involving one such massive state and up to three massless ones and express them in the helicity basis. The most important…
In four dimensional superstring models, the gauge group normally contains extra U(1)s that are broken at a high energy scale. We show that the presence of the extra U(1)s is crucial for the phenomenological viability of string scenarios, since the contribution to the scalar masses from the D-terms can lift the unbounded from below directions that usually appear when the gauge group at high energies is just the Standard Model group. In particular, we show that the dilaton dominated scenario can be allowed in large regions of the parameter space if there exists an anomalous U(1) in the theory, a…
