We derive the exact solution for the optical conductivity $σ(ω)$ of one hole in the Holstein-t-J model in the framework of dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). We investigate the magnetic and phonon features associated with polaron formation as a function of the exchange coupling $J$, of the electron-phonon interaction $λ$ and of the temperature. Our solution directly relates the features of the optical conductivity to the excitations in the single-particle spectral function, revealing two distinct mechanisms of closing and filling of the optical pseudogap that take place upon varying the microscopic parameters. We show that the optical absorption at the polaron crossover is characterized by a coexistence of a magnon peak at low frequency and a broad polaronic band at higher frequency. An analytical expression for $σ(ω)$ valid in the polaronic regime is presented.
In this work we investigate temperature dependence of electronic structure of system with strong electronic correlations and strong electron-phonon interaction modeling cuprates in the frameworks of the three-band p-d-Holstein model by a polaronic version of the generalized tight binding (GTB) method. Within this approach the electronic structure is formed by polaronic quasiparticles constructed as excitations between initial and final polaronic multielectron states. Temperature effect is taken into account by occupation numbers of local excited polaronic states and variations in the magnitude…

The effect of dispersive optical phonons on the behaviour of a Holstein polaron
We provide a comprehensive solution to the lattice dynamics problem in the two dimensional Holstein model at finite electron density and finite temperature. We work in the physically relevant adiabatic regime and vary the electron-phonon interaction from the weak coupling perturbative window to the strong coupling polaronic regime. We explore three typical electron densities, dilute - where spatial correlations between polarons is weak, intermediate - where correlations are significant, and half-filling - where there is long range checkerboard order at low temperature. We use two methods both …
Transient quantum dynamics in an interacting fermion-phonon system are investigated. In particular, a charge order (CO) melting after a short optical-pulse irradiation and roles of the quantum phonons on the transient dynamics are focused on. A spinless-fermion model in a one-dimensional chain coupled with local phonons is analyzed numerically. The infinite time-evolving block decimation algorithm is adopted as a reliable numerical method for one-dimensional quantum many-body systems. Numerical results for the photoinduced CO melting dynamics without phonons are well interpreted by the soliton…
Non-diagonal couplings to a bosonic bath completely change polaronic dynamics, from the usual diagonally-coupled paradigm of smoothly-varying properties. We study, using analytic and numerical methods, a model having both diagonal Holstein and non-diagonal Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) couplings. The critical coupling found previously in the pure SSH model, at which the $k=0$ effective mass diverges, now becomes a transition line in the coupling constant plane - the form of the line depends on the adiabaticity parameter. Detailed results are given for the quasiparticle and ground state properties…

Thermal and optical conductivity in the Holstein model at half filling and at finite temperature in the Luttinger-liquid and charge-density-wave regime
By using variational wave functions and quantum Monte Carlo techniques, we investigate the interplay between electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions in the two-dimensional Hubbard-Holstein model. Here, the ground-state phase diagram is triggered by several energy scales, i.e., the electron hopping $t$, the on-site electron-electron interaction $U$, the phonon energy $ω_0$, and the electron-phonon coupling $g$. At half filling, the ground state is an antiferromagnetic insulator for $U \gtrsim 2g^2/ω_0$, while it is a charge-density-wave (or bi-polaronic) insulator for $U \lesssim 2g^…
A comprehensive picture of polaron and bipolaron physics is essential to understand the optical absorption spectrum in many materials with electron-phonon interactions. In particular, the finite-temperature properties are of interest since they play an important role in many experiments. Here, we combine the parallel two-site time-dependent variational principle algorithm (p2TDVP) with local basis optimization (LBO) and purification to calculate time-dependent current-current correlation functions. From this information, we extract the optical conductivity for the Holstein polaron and bipolaro…
We investigate the effect of local electron-phonon coupling on nonlinear optical conductivity in an interacting ferroelectric system. Using real-time simulations, we show an enhancement in nonlinear conductivity under linearly-polarized light due to generation of the phonon-assisted ballistic-current in addition to the injection-current generated by electron-hole pairs. The optically excited phonon modes generate an asymmetric carrier distribution that causes a strong directional ballistic-current. The ballistic-current enhances the photocurrent several times at above band-gap excitation frequ…
Quantum simulations can provide new insights into the physics of strongly correlated electronic systems. A well studied system, but still open in many regards, is the Hubbard-Holstein Hamiltonian, where electronic repulsion is in competition with attraction generated by the electron-phonon coupling. In this context we study the phase diagram of four quantum dots in a suspended carbon nanotube and coupled to its flexural degrees of freedom. The system is described by a Hamiltonian of the Hubbard-Holstein class, where electrons on different sites interact with the same phonon. We find that the s…
