In a recent Letter (Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{98}, 083601 (2007), arXiv:cond-mat/0610804), O. Assaf and E. Akkermans claim that the angular correlations of the light intensity scattered by a cloud of cold atoms with internal degeneracy (Zeeman sublevels) of the ground state overcome the usual Rayleigh law. More precisely, they found that they become exponentially large with the size of the sample. In what follows, we will explain why their results are wrong and, in contrary, why the internal degeneracy leads to lower intensity correlations.

Intensity correlations and mesoscopic fluctuations of diffusing photons in cold atoms

We study the angular correlation function of speckle patterns that result from multiple scattering of photons by cold atomic clouds. We show that this correlation function becomes larger than the value given by Rayleigh law for classical scatterers. These large intensity fluctuations constitute a new mesoscopic interference effect specific to atom-photon interactions, that could not be observed in other systems such as weakly disordered metals. We provide a complete description of this behavior and expressions that allow for a quantitative comparison with experiments.

Here we emphasize once more the distinction between generating CISS (spin-charge current conversion) in a chiral system and detecting it as magnetoresistance in two-terminal electronic devices. We also highlight important differences between electrical measurement results obtained in the linear response regime and those obtained in the nonlinear regime.

Mesoscopic phase statistics of diffuse ultrasound in dynamic matter

Temporal fluctuations in the phase of waves transmitted through a dynamic, strongly scattering, mesoscopic sample are investigated using ultrasonic waves, and compared with theoretical predictions based on circular Gaussian statistics. The fundamental role of phase in Diffusing Acoustic Wave Spectroscopy is revealed, and phase statistics are also shown to provide a sensitive and accurate way to probe scatterer motions at both short and long time scales.

Comment on "Peierls Gap in Mesoscopic Ring Threated by a Magnetic Flux"

In a recent letter, Yi et al. PRL 78, 3523 (1997), have considered the stability of a Charge Density Wave in a one-dimensional ring, in the presence of an Aharonov-Bohm flux. This comment shows that, in one dimension, the stability of the Charge Density Wave depends on the parity of the number of electrons in the ring. This effect is similar to the parity effect known for the persistent current in one-dimensional rings.

Effect of superradiance on transport of diffusing photons in cold atomic gases

We show that in atomic gases cooperative effects like superradiance and subradiance lead to a potential between two atoms that decays like $1/r$. In the case of superradiance, this potential is attractive for close enough atoms and can be interpreted as a coherent mesoscopic effect. The contribution of superradiant pairs to multiple scattering properties of a dilute gas, such as photon elastic mean free path and group velocity, is significantly different from that of independent atoms. Recently, Hecker et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 1547 (1997)] experimentally studied magnetoconductance fluctuations in a mesoscopic Au wire connected to a superconducting Nb contact. In a recent paper, Phys. Rev. Lett. 81, 1074 (1998), Golubev and Zaikin (GZ) found that ``zero-point fluctuations of electrons'' contribute to the dephasing rate extracted from the magnetoresistance. As a result, the dephasing rate remains finite at zero temperature. GZ claimed that their results ``agree well with the experimental data''. Comment on "Scaling behavior of classical wave transport in mesoscopic media at the localization transition"

We emphasize the importance of the position dependence of the diffusion coefficient D(r) in the self-consistent theory of localization and argue that the scaling law T ~ ln(L)/L^2 obtained by Cheung and Zhang [Phys. Rev. B 72, 235102 (2005)] for the average transmission coefficient T of a disordered slab of thickness L at the localization transition is an artifact of replacing D(r) by its harmonic mean. The correct scaling T ~ 1/L^2 is obtained by properly treating the position dependence of D(r).

In their comment cond-mat/9710285 [Phys. Rev. Lett. 80, 5024 (1998)] den Hartog and van Wees (HW) raise objections against our analysis of the experimental data presented in cond-mat/9708162 [Phys. We argue from both technical and physical points of view that the main result shown in the Comment [arXiv:0709.2619] by Cherrolet et al. [Phys. Rev. B 80, 037101 (2009)] as well as the authors' interpretations of the result are not sufficient to draw the conclusion that the scaling law at the mobility edge takes the form T \propto 1/L^2. On the other hand, we believe that the result shows some evidence of T \propto ln L/L^2 behavior found in S. K. Cheung and Z. Q. Zhang, Phys. Rev. B 72, 235102 (2005) [arXiv:cond-mat/0509381]. Mesoscopic conductance and its fluctuations at non-zero Hall angle

We consider the bilocal conductivity tensor, the two-probe conductance and its fluctuations for a disordered phase-coherent two-dimensional system of non-interacting electrons in the presence of a magnetic field, including correctly the edge effects. Analytical results are obtained by perturbation theory in the limit $σ_{xx} \gg 1$.
