I discuss low energy aspects of heavy meson decays, where there is at least one heavy meson in the final state. Examples are $B -\bar{B}$ mixing, $B \to D \bar{D}$, $B \to D η'$, and $B \to D γ$. %and $B \to D W $ (Isgur-Wise function). The analysis is performed in the heavy quark limit within heavy-light chiral perturbation theory. Coefficients of $1/N_c$ suppressed chiral Lagrangian terms (beyond factorization) have been estimated by means of a heavy-light chiral quark model.
For the first time, a solution to the $a_2/a_1$ sign problem in heavy meson decay based on PQCD factorization theorems. The point is to include QCD evolution effort characteristic scales involved in decay processes.
Electromagnetic interactions are introduced in the effective chiral Lagrangian for heavy mesons which includes light vector particles. A suitable notion of vector meson dominance is formulated. The constraints on the heavy meson -light vector and heavy meson-light pseudoscalar coupling constants are obtained using experimental $D^* \ra D \, γ$ branching ratios. These constraints are compared with values estimated from semi-leptonic transition amplitudes as well as from extension of the light meson coupling pattern. Application to the heavy baryon spectrum in the ``bound state " model is made.
We describe the effective heavy meson lagrangian for S- and P-wave heavy-light mesons in terms of a model based on meson-quark interactions, where mesonic transition amplitudes are represented by diagrams with heavy mesons attached to loops containing heavy and light constituent quarks. The model is relativistic and incorporates the heavy quark symmetries. The universal form factors of the heavy meson transition amplitudes are calculated together with their slopes and compared to existing data and limits. As further applications of the model, strong and radiative decays of D* and B* are consid…
The spin and flavor symmetries of the heavy quark effective theory are employed to discuss the exclusive cross sections for pair production of heavy mesons in photon-photon collision. The ratios of the exclusive cross sections for heavy mesons are obtained explicitly and the validity of results is discussed.
The amplitudes for one-pion mediated transitions between heavy meson excited states are obtained in the framework of the relativistic chiral quark model. The effective coupling constants to pions and the decay widths of excited heavy mesons with l<=2 for non-radially excited, and the l=0 radially excited mesons are presented for both charmed and beauty mesons. We also discuss the allowed decays of strange excited heavy mesons by emission of a K-meson.
In the framework of QCD sum rules one uses a scheme, allowing one to apply the conditions of both nonrelativistic heavy quark motion inside mesons and independence of nonsplitting nS-state density on the heavy quark flavours. In the leading order an analitic expression is derived for leptonic constants of both heavy quarkonia and heavy mesons with a single heavy quark. The expression allows one explicitly to determine scaling properties of the constants.
We examine the decays of excited heavy mesons, including the leading power corrections to the heavy quark limit. We find a new and natural explanation for the large deviation of the width of the $D_1(2420)$ from the heavy quark symmetry prediction. Our formalism leads to detailed predictions for the properties of the excited bottom mesons, some of which recently have been observed. Finally, we present a detailed analysis of the effect of power corrections and finite meson widths on the angular distributions which may be measured in heavy meson decays.
Spectra of heavy-light meson are studied using potential model and thermofield dynamics prescription. The mass spectra of different heavy-light mesons are calculated at different temperatures and compared with those at T=0. It is found that the binding mass of heavy-light meson decreases as temperature increases.
We calculate the coupling constants between the light vector mesons and heavy mesons within the framework of the light-cone QCD sum rule in the leading order of heavy quark effective theory. The sum rules are very stable with the variations of the Borel parameter and the continuum threshold. The extracted couplings will be useful in the study of the possible heavy meson molecular states. They may also helpful in the interpretation of the proximity of X(3872), Y(4260) and Z(4430) to the threshold of two charmed mesons through the couple-channel mechanism.
In this paper we obtain a heavy meson bound state equation from the heavy quark equation of motion in heavy quark effective theory (HQET) and the heavy meson effective field theory we developed very recently. The bound state equation is a covariant extention of the light-front bound state equation for heavy mesons derived from light-front QCD and HQET. We determine the covariant heavy meson wave function variationally by minimizing the binding energy $\barΛ$. Subsequently the other basic HQET parameters $λ_1$ and $λ_2$, and the heavy quark masses $m_b$ and $m_c$ can also be consistently determ…
Relations between the form factors that parametrize the hadronic matrix elements, in spectator decays of heavy mesons, have been derived by Stech within the constituent quark model. In here, we examine these relations using a slightly modified description of the meson states. We find new and very general relations for some of the form factors. For the other form factors, we obtain small modifications to the relations previously derived by Stech, in the case of heavy-to-light transitions.
We estimate the ground state masses of the heavy hybrid mesons using a phenomenological QCD-type potential. 0^{- -},1^{- -},0^{- +},1^{- +} and 0^{+ -} J^{PC} states are considered.
We analyse the Lorentz structures of weak decay matrix elements bewteen meson states of arbitrary spin. Simplifications arise in the transition amplitudes for a heavy meson decaying into a light one via a Bethe-Salpeter approach which incorporates heavy quark symmetry. Phenomenological consequences on several semileptonic, nonleptonic and FCNC induced decays of heavy flavoured mesons are derived and discussed.
Heavy quark symmetry and its breaking in strong decays of P-wave heavy-light mesons are examined within the EHQ's method. The consistence of theory with experiments indicates that the breaking of heavy quark symmetry in the two-body strong decays of these mesons is not large. The relation between the EHQ's method and the $^3P_0$ model is investigated, and the phenomenological transition strengths $\mathcal {F}^{j_q,j'_q}_{j_h,l}(0)$ of the P-wave heavy-light mesons within the EHQ method are analytically derived within the $^3P_0$ model.
We calculate the $ρ$ meson couplings between the heavy hybrid doublets H^h/S^h/M^h/T^h and the ordinary q\bar{Q} doublets in the framework of the light-cone QCD sum rule. The sum rules obtained rely mildly on the Borel parameters in their working regions. The resulting coupling constants are rather small in most cases.
We propose an extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model to include the heavy mesons with the heavy quark symmetry. The quark current-current interaction is generalized to include the heavy quark currents. In order to comply with the heavy quark spin symmetry at the heavy quark limit, the quark mass dependence of the interaction strength is introduced. The light and heavy pseudo-scalar and vector meson, their masses and the weak decay constants, are calculated in the unified frame.

We show how to obtain a ``heavy'' meson effective lagrangian for the case where the number of heavy particles is not conserved. We apply the method in a simple example at tree level and perform then the reduction for the case of vector mesons in Chiral Perturbation Theory in a manifestly chiral invariant fashion. Some examples showing that ``heavy'' meson effective theory also works at the one-loop level are included.
I review recent developments in the description of the interactions between light and heavy mesons by an effective chiral lagrangian having the symmetries of the Heavy Quark Effective Theory. In particular the problem of the determination of the strong coupling constants $g_{P^* P π}$ and $g_{P^* P ρ}$ ($P, P^*=$ heavy mesons) is addressed. Invited talk given at the 18th J. Hopkins Workshop (Florence, September 1994)
Using the calculated values of the strong coupling constants of the heavy sextet spin-3/2 baryons to sextet and antitriplet heavy spin-1/2 baryons with light mesons within the light cone QCD sum rules method, and vector meson dominance assumption, the radiative decay widths are calculated. These widths are compared with the "direct" radiative decay widths predicted in the framework of the light cone QCD sum rules.
In this paper we present a detailed formulation for a recently proposed effective field theory to describe the nonperturbative QCD dynamics of heavy mesons. This effective theory incorporates with heavy quark symmetry (HQS) and the heavy quark effective theory (HQET). Heavy mesons in this theory are constructed as composite particles of a heavy quark bounded with the light degrees of freedom. The heavy meson properties in the heavy quark limit and the $1/m_Q$ corrections can then be explicitly evaluated from this effective theory. All the basic parameters of the HQET, namely, the heavy quark m…
We investigate decay constants of P and D-wave heavy-light mesons within the mock-meson approach. Numerical estimates are obtained using the relativistic quark model. We also comment on recent calculations of heavy-light pseudo-scalar and vector decay constants.
The effect of an extended Cornell potential on mass spectra of heavy and heavy-light mesons is studied. The Cornell potential is extended to include quadratic potential and inverse quadratic potential. The N-radial Schrodinger equation is solved by using series method. The results for charmonium and bottomonium, and light-heavy meson masses are obtained. A comparison with other recent works is discussed. The present results are improved in comparison with other recent works and are in good agreement with experimental data.
We have systematically studied the S-wave pseudoscalar meson and heavy vector meson scattering lengths to the third order with the chiral perturbation theory, which will be helpful to reveal their strong interaction. For comparison, we have presented the numerical results of the scattering lengths (1) in the framework of the heavy meson chiral perturbation theory and (2) in the framework of the infrared regularization. The chiral expansion converges well in some channels.
The spin-averaged binding energy and the hyperfine mass splitting of heavy-light mesons are investigated within the constituent quark model as a function of the inverse heavy-quark mass. It is shown that the so-called heavy-quark kinetic energy, -lambda1 / 2mQ, may differ remarkably from the non-relativistic expectation <p**2> / 2mQ, thanks to relativistic effects in the effective interquark potential for heavy-light mesons, which may yield substantial 1 / mQ corrections to the heavy-quark static limit. The determination of the difference of the hadronic parameter lambda1 in the B(u(d)) and B(…
We evaluate the radiative and hadronic decay rates of the $D^*$ mesons using the Heavy Quark Effective Theory and the Vector Meson Dominance hypothesis. We also estimate the width of the $B^*$ electromagnetic transitions and the radiative decays of positive parity $J^P=0^+, 1^+$ charmed mesons.
We use recent experimental data on charmed mesons to constrain three coupling constants in the effective lagrangian describing the interactions of excited heavy-light mesons with light pseudoscalar mesons at order $m_Q^{-1}$. Predictions in the beauty sector are also derived.
The theory of heavy meson masses, in which the symmetries of heavy and light quarks are exploited, can be used to describe the low energy interaction among heavy mesons to a better extent. The spin-flavor symmetry leads to many interesting relations between the properties of hadrons containing a heavy quark. The most direct consequences concern the spectroscopy of such states. We use such symmetries to explore some of the states of B-meson and predictions are found to be in agreement with the experimental data.
Using the analytic properties of two-point functions in QCD, as well as unitarity, bounds on the B meson form factor F(q^2) can be derived. Heavy quark spin symmetry, correctly taken into account, is shown to improve these bounds significantly.
Using a quite accurate flavour-independence of $nS$-level mass differences in heavy quarkonia and a corresponding quasiclassical expression for the heavy quark binding energy, one shows that experimental data on masses of mesons with heavy quarks allow one to make the estimate $\bar Λ= 0.63\pm 0.03$ GeV.
The transition form factors of the radiative decays of the heavy tensor mesons to heavy pseudoscalar and heavy vector mesons are calculated in the framework of the light cone QCD sum rules method at the point $Q^2=0$. Using the obtained values of the transition form factors at the point $Q^2=0$ the corresponding decay widths are estimated. The results show that the radiative decays of the heavy--light tensor mesons can be measurable in the future planned experiments at LHCb.
We derive two model-independent sum rules relating the transition matrix elements for radiative and strong decays of excited heavy mesons to properties of the lowest-lying heavy mesons. The sum rule for the radiative decays is an analog of the Cabibbo-Radicati sum rule and expresses the sum of the radiative widths in terms of the isovector charge radius of the ground state heavy meson. Using model-dependent estimates and heavy hadron chiral perturbation theory calculations, we show that this sum rule is close to saturation with states of excitation energies less than 1 GeV. An analog of the Ad…

We have studied the interactions between two heavy mesons ($D^{(*)}$-$D^{(*)}$, $\bar D^{(*)}$-$\bar D^{(*)}$, $B^{(*)}$-$B^{(*)}$, or $\bar B^{(*)}$-$\bar B^{(*)}$) within heavy meson chiral effective field theory and investigated possible molecular states. The effective potentials are obtained with Weinberg's scheme up to one-loop level. At the leading order, four body contact interactions and one pion exchange contributions are considered. In addition to two pion exchange diagrams, we include the one-loop chiral corrections to contact terms and one pion exchange diagrams at the next-to-lead…
The magnetic and quadrupole moments of the vector and axial-vector mesons containing heavy quark are estimated within the light cone sum rules method. Our predictions on magnetic moments for the vector mesons are compared with the results obtained by other approaches.
After a brief review on how heavy quark symmetry constraints the helicity fragmentation probabilities for a heavy quark hadronizes into heavy-light hadrons, we present a heavy quark fragmentation model to extract the value for the Falk-Peskin probability $w_{3/2}$ describing the fragmentation of a heavy quark into a heavy-light meson whose light degrees of freedom have angular momentum ${3 \over 2}$. We point out that this probability depends on the longitudinal momentum fraction $z$ of the meson and on its transverse momentum $p_\bot$ relative to the jet axis. In this model, the light degrees…
The electromagnetic (EM) form fators of the pseudoscalar and vector mesons are calculated in the light-front framework. We extract these form factors from the relevant matrix elements directly, instead of choosing the Breit frame. The results show that the charge radius of the meson are related to both the first and second longitudinal momentum square derivative of the momentum distribution function. In addition, the static properties of the EM form factors and the heavy quark symmetry of the charge radii are checked analytically when we take the heavy quark limit.
We investigate the bound states of heavy mesons with finite masses to a classical soliton solution in the Skyrme model. For a given model Lagrangian we solve the equations of motion exactly so that the heavy vector mesons are treated on the same footing as the heavy pseudoscalar mesons. All the energy levels of higher grand spin states as well as the ground state are given over a wide range of the heavy meson masses. We also examine the validity of the approximations used in the literatures. The recoil effect of finite mass soliton is naively estimated.
In the paper we discuss contribution of the doubly intrinsic heavy mechanism into the production of $B_c$ meson, the doubly heavy baryons and the all-charm tetraquark at a future fixed-target experiment at the LHC (AFTER@LHC). The production cross sections and the mean values of Feynman-x for the finale states are presented.
Chiral symmetry and heavy quark symmetry constrain the interactions of mesons containing a single heavy quark with low-momentum pions. Chiral corrections to the Isgur-Wise function for $\bar B_s \rightarrow D_s^{(*)}$ versus $\bar B \rightarrow D^{(*)}$ semileptonic decay, the ratio of heavy meson decay constants $f_{D_s}/ f_D$ or $f_{B_s}/ f_B$, the amplitudes for $B_s - \bar B_s$ versus $B^0 - \bar B{\,}^0$ mixing, and the heavy meson mass splittings are calculated in chiral perturbation theory. (Invited talk Rencontres de Moriond 1993)
We improve the bound state approach of the Skyrme model applied to the heavy baryons by adopting a static heavy meson picture where the soliton moves around the fixed heavy meson. This allows to take into account the center of mass corrections in a more consistent way. The bound state masses so obtained are comparable to the experimentally observed $Λ_c$ and $Λ_c^*$ masses. A loosely bound state of a soliton with an antiflavored heavy meson is found, which leaves a possibility of the nonstrange pentaquark baryon(s).
This letter reports some improvement of the formalism and analysis of our very recent work \cite{SR1} on the studies of Isgur-Wise function for heavy-light mesons following higher dimensional string inspired potential model.
We derive the mass correction lagrangian of the heavy meson effective theory by using the projection operator method. The next leading order of the mass correction and the first order of the chiral expansion are given explicitely. We also consider the mass correction weak lagrangian of the heavy mesons. Finally, we give the $\it{D}^{*+}\to \it{D}^o π^{+}$ decay.
Since the discovery of the $J/ψ$, the quark model was very successful in describing the spectrum and properties of heavy mesons including only $q\bar q$ components. However since 2003, with the discovery of the $X(3872)$, many states that can not be accommodated on the naive quark model have been discovered, and they made unavoidable to include higher Fock components on the heavy meson states. We will give an overview of the success of the quark model for heavy mesons and point some of the states that are likely to be more complicated structures such as meson-meson molecules.
A sum rule relating the widths of the decays of mesons belonging to heavy quark multiplets, having the same parity and light quark spin j, into the low lying $0^-$ and $1^-$ multiplet is obtained. As this sum rule follows from properties of the axial charges, it is protected from heavy quark spin dependent $1/m_Q$ corrections. The sum rule works well for mesons containing a heavy charmed quark and, surprisingly, for resonances containing a strange quark.

We also review recent studies of the production of mixed heavy quark hybrids via RHIC and heavy quark meson supression in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions.
We calculate the two-pion exchange potential between a heavy meson and a heavy baryon. We find this potential is as strong as the one-pion exchange potential between two heavy mesons and is enough to bind $Λ_b-\bar B$. Though our result is sensitive to the cut-off, the value of the cut-off is in the reasonable region.
Within the framework of heavy quark effective theory and chiral perturbation theory, masses and splittings of heavy charm mesons are studied. A mass formula is used for comprehensive analysis of low lying charm meson states. The variation of mass splittings and spin splittings with respect to various symmetry conserving and symmetry breaking parameters have also been focussed.
The masses of excited heavy mesons are studied with sum rules in the heavy quark effective theory. A set of interpolating currents creating (annihilating) excited heavy mesons with arbitrary spin and parity are proposed and their properties are discussed. Numerical results at the leading order of the {\cal O}(1/m_Q) expansion are obtained for the lowest doublets (0^+, 1^+) and (1^+, 2^+).
In a previous work, we proposed an extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model including heavy quark flavors. In this work, we will calculate strong and radiative decays of vector mesons in this extended NJL model, including light $ρ$, $ω$, $K^*$, $ϕ$ and heavy $D^*$, $D^*_s$, $B^*$, $B^*_s$.
We demonstrate that the form factors of local operators between a heavy meson state (like the~$B$) and a light pseudoscalar state (like the pion) are given exactly by a single pole form in the combined heavy quark, large $N_c$ (number of colors) and chiral limits. We discuss the deviations from this exact result from finite heavy quark masses, non-zero light quark masses and finite $N_c$. We comment on some implications of this result.
I describe a model for heavy meson decays based on an effective quark-meson lagrangian. I consider the heavy mesons S with spin and parity J^P=(1+,0+), H with J^P=(1-,0-) and T^mu with J^P=(2+,1+), i.e. S and P wave heavy-light mesons. The model is constrained by the known symmetries of QCD in the mQ -> infinity limit for the heavy quarks, and chiral symmetry in the light quark sector. Using a very limited number of free parameters it is possible to compute several phenomenological quantities, e.g. the leptonic B and B** decay constants; the three universal Isgur-Wise form factors: xi, tau(3/2…
Using heavy quark effective theory a factorized form for inclusive production rate of a heavy meson can be obtained, in which the nonperturbative effect related to the heavy meson can be characterized by matrix elements defined in the heavy quark effective theory. Using this factorization, predictions for the full spin density matrix of a spin-1 and spin-2 meson can be obtained and they are characterized only by one coefficient representing the nonperturbative effect. Predictions for spin-1 heavy meson are compared with experiment performed at $e^+e^-$ colliders in the energy range from $\sqrt…
The leptonic decay constant of the pseudoscalar mesons a calculated by use of the relativistic constituent quark model constructed on the point form of Poincare-covariant quantum mechanics. We discuss the role relativistic corrections for decay constants of pseudoscalar mesons with heavy quarks. We consider the heavy mass limit of decay constant for two-particle system with equal masses.
The algebraic content of chiral symmetry constrains the strong interactions of mesons containing a single heavy quark. We show that the S-wave single-pion transition amplitudes of all heavy meson states are determined as a consequence of the participation of these states in reducible multiplets of unbroken $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$. We find this representation content by making use of phenomenologically inspired Lie-algebraic sum rules, together with QCD constraints on the heavy meson spectrum in the heavy quark limit. For example, the transition amplitude for the process $P^*\rightarrow Pπ$, wh…
A pole model for the form factors describing heavy to light meson transitions is constructed, and the results compared with the predictions of the heavy quark effective theory (HQET). While most of the HQET-predicted relationships among form factors hold at the maximum value of $q^2$, many are violated, suggesting that the simplest version of the pole model of meson form factors should be used with caution, especially when combined with HQET.
